Ex-Colombian beauty queen arrested on drug charges

A former Colombian beauty queen suspected of leading a band of young women who smuggled cocaine from Argentina to Europe was arrested on Wednesday in Argentina, a judicial source said.

Police arrested Angie Sanclemente Valencia, 31, at a youth hostel in Buenos Aires, the source told Reuters, asking not to be named because the investigation is ongoing.

The ex-model and actress won one of Colombia’s top beauty pageants in 2000 but was later dethroned after it was revealed she had lied about being single.

She vanished several months ago amid an investigation by Argentine authorities into accusations she headed up a group of women who transported cocaine on flights from Buenos Aires to Europe via Mexico.

Colombia is the world’s No. 1 cocaine producer.

Authorities say Valencia employed young, attractive women who reportedly often traveled first class to smuggle the drugs.

She has repeatedly denied the charges. Her lawyer has said Valencia refused to turn herself in out of fear she could be abused in jail.

CD Scam: Orissa Government warns women about getting physical with debauched boyfriends

Bhubaneshwar, May 14 (ANI): Authorities in Orissa have officially issued warnings to young women to avoid entering physical relationships with their boyfriends after a series of such incidents were converted into sex videos.

Debauched boyfriends secretly filmed their partners and sold it as pornographic material. Some shared it on the Internet.

This triggered a spate of suicide attempts by hapless women. One student in Cuttack has already committed suicide.

The police have since raided video shops and confiscated several such CDs.

“It is a serious concern and we need to act fast,” the chairperson of the Orissa State Women”s Commission, Jyoti Panigrahi, told the BBC, adding that the campaign is targeted at college students.

Non-governmental organisations working on women”s issues will also be involved in the campaign.

Ms Panigrahi said parents needed to monitor the movements of their daughters and keep an eye on their activities and friends.

Lawyers in Kamakshanagar have held a protest rally demanding the immediate arrest of the “boyfriends” involved.

“There is also an urgent need to amend the law to give stringent punishment in such cases,” activist Anuradha Mohanty told the BBC. (ANI)

Ex-M&S supermodel Noemie Lenoir in ‘suicide bid’

London, May 13 (ANI): Former Marks & Spencer supermodel Noemie Lenoir was found unconscious in the woods outside her former flame/soccer star Claude Makelele’s home in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, near Paris, after allegedly trying to commit suicide.

The beauty, depressed over her current boyfriend Carl Hirschmann being linked to a sex blackmail plot, had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs.

She reportedly called an ambulance but cancelled it minutes later.

“She was in a state of great distress and very ill,” the Sun quoted a source close to her, as saying.

The insider added: “She had clearly attempted to harm herself and had fallen unconscious. She was rushed to hospital and treated for the effects of poisoning. It seems she tried to commit suicide as a cry for help. She””s now recovering.”

A police source said: “She had consumed a significant quantity of drugs and alcohol. The reasons behind her actions are currently not clear.”

Lenoir’s Swiss lover Hirschmann has been accused of filming models performing sex acts, then threatening to publish the tapes on the internet.

A pal said: “Noemie is spending all of her spare time going to see him in Zurich. Knowing that he””s involved in such a serious case is tearing her apart.

“It””s a living hell and often Noemie doesn””t know which way to turn. The truth is that she is besotted with him.

“Many of the allegations are coming from beautiful young women just like her. It””s almost too much to bear.”

Lenoir’s career, seemingly, hasn’t been rolling after M&S cancelled her contract 12 months ago.

However, M&S spokesman said: “We””re very sorry to hear about this and wish Noemie a very speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with her and her family.”

Lenoir has a five -year-old son, Kelyan, with Makelele. She parted ways with the midfielder after rumours of his cheating surfaced. But they still maintain a cordial relationship. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole fans would boycott her music if she, Ashley reunite: Survey

London, May 13 (ANI): Cheryl Cole fans would boycott her music if she takes back her love-rat husband Ashley, according to a survey.

In the study, conducted by www.MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, 76 percent of British women said they would ‘lose respect’ for the singer – with 44 percent saying they would stop buying her records, reports The Mirror.

According to 62 percent of the respondents Cheryl’s career would suffer if the couple reunited and almost half, 48 percent, believe that Cheryl would become a bad role model to young women. (ANI)

Stressful jobs up women”s heart disease risk

Washington, May 6 (ANI): High-pressure jobs increase young women”s risk of heart disease, concludes a new study.

In the study, published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the research team assessed the impact of work pressure and degree of personal influence in the workplace on the heart health of 12,116 nurses, who were taking part in the Danish Nurse Cohort Study.

The nurses were all aged between 45 and 64 in 1993, when they were quizzed about their daily work pressures and personal influence, after which their health was then tracked for 15 years, using hospital records.

By 2008, 580 nurses had been admitted to hospital with ischaemic heart disease, which included 369 cases of angina and 138 heart attacks.

Nurses who indicated that their work pressures were a little too high were 25 percent more likely to have ischaemic heart disease as those who said their work pressures were manageable and appropriate.

But those who felt work pressures were much too high were almost 50 percent more likely to have ischaemic heart disease. After taking account of risk factors for heart disease, such as smoking and lifestyle, the risk fell to 35 percent, but still remained significant.

Poor job control in the workplace did not influence heart disease risk, while the amount of physical activity at work, which is known to affect health, had a small although significant impact.

When the findings were analysed by age, only the nurses under the age of 51 were at significant risk of heart disease.

In a separate analysis, the researchers looked at the impact of work pressures on the same group, but for just five years up to 1998.

Nurses who felt themselves to be moderately pressurised at work were 60 percent more likely to have ischaemic heart disease while those who said they faced excessive pressures at work were almost twice as likely to have it.

These findings held true even after taking account of other risk factors.

“It seems as if the effect of work pressure has a greater impact on younger nurses,” say the authors. “This is in agreement with findings from previous studies looking at age specific effects in both men and women.”

“The lower risk among the older nurses may be due to other risk factors that become relatively more important with increasing age. Furthermore, vulnerable individuals may have [already] left work,” they add. (ANI)

Underwear label Ultimo dumps ‘bad role model’ Peaches Geldof

London, March 30 (ANI): Peaches Geldof has been dumped by underwear label Miss Ultimo.

The model has been axed from her 500,000-pound job over claims she has become a bad role model for teenagers.

Ultimo supremo Michelle Mone said that she had no option but to end the star’s deal with the label after more than 3,000 complaints from parents.

“I am a mother and have responsibility for role models with our brands,” the Daily Star quoted Michelle, 38, as saying.

“There’s a point where a business must stick to its principles and as a brand that targets young women, we feel it is impossible for Peaches to continue.”

Recently, a sex and drugs scandal involving Peaches was revealed.

Topless pictures of an alleged heroin binge were posted on the Internet by Ben Mills, who she had a one-night stand with.

Peaches has angrily denied Ben’s claim that they took heroin and insisted only drink had been taken.

The socialite insists that she had done nothing wrong.

“I am disappointed Ultimo has decided not to extend my contract based on a wildly exaggerated account of a night in Los Angeles five months ago,” she said.

“Whilst I vehemently deny parts of that account, I understand Ultimo’s decision,” she added. (ANI)

Brit girl finds porn on her repaired mobile

London, Mar 24 (ANI): A British student is said to have been left horrified after the mobile she sent for repair came back full of porn.

Lauren Kennedy, 18, found her Nokia packed with sleazy homemade videos of couples and groups having sex and women pleasuring themselves.

The phone contained 13 pictures of young women in lingerie and 10 videos between five and 10 minutes long featuring a variety of X-rated scenes.

Kennedy, from Coventry, says she was “deeply traumatised” by the images she discovered on the handset after she sent it for repair to Carphone Warehouse because it kept cutting out mid-call.

“I was disgusted. I wouldn’t have rubbish like that on my mobile. I’m a young girl, I don’t want naked pictures on my phone,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

“I think it’s revolting that somebody has had their filthy paws on my mobile phone. They have recorded themselves doing everything.

“You can only see the women and not the person recording it, but you can hear him egging them on,” she added.

The company has offered Lauren a new Blackberry Curve as compensation.

A spokesman apologised and said the firm has launched an “urgent investigation”. (ANI)

Facebook blamed for soaring sex diseases

London, March 24 (ANI): Popular social networking websites such as Facebook have been blamed for the rise in cases of syphilis as members go for unprotected sex with partners they meet on the Internet.

Official figures showed a four-fold increase in the UK in cases of potentially-lethal syphilis.

“There has been a four-fold increase in the number of syphilis cases detected, with more young women being affected,” The Sun quoted Professor Peter Kelly, director of Public Health for NHS Tees, as saying.

Prof Kelly continued: “I don”t get the names of people affected, just figures. And I saw that several of the people had met sexual partners through these sites.

“Social networking sites are making it easier for people to meet up for casual sex. There is a rise in syphilis because people are having more sexual partners than 20 years ago and often do not use condoms.”

The highest rates were observed in women aged 20 to 24 and men aged 25 to 34, the paper said.

A spokesperson for Facebook said users should take “precautions” and be on their guard while meeting with anyone they encountered online. (ANI)

Fiji-Indian origin man who raped strict Hindu family girls in Auckland jailed

Auckland, Mar. 24 (ANI): The rape victims, who came forward to help police arrest a Fiji-Indian-origin serial sex-offender despite their strict Hindu backgrounds, were lauded by Auckland High Court Justice John Priestley.

A Fiji-Indian origin man who raped and blackmailed several young women after taking advantage of their strict South Asian upbringing will spend at least 10 years in jail.

Junior Ranga Sami Pillai, 25, was sentenced to 19-1/2 years in jail, with a minimum non-parole period of 10 years, at the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday for 48 charges.

They included 13 charges of rape, 11 charges of unlawful sexual connection, one charge of attempted sexual violation, one charge of sexual connection with a young person, three charges of unlawful detention with the intention of sexual connection, 13 charges of blackmail and six of obtaining by deception, Stuff.co.nz reports.

Most victims were between the age of 15 and 22, while one was a 12-year-old. All were of South Asian ethnic origin, mostly Indian from strict Hindu families, the report says.

Pillai contacted many of his victims via the internet and from there manipulated them into having sex with him while threatening to tell their parents.

Pillai was found guilty of 22 charges following a trial in the middle of last year. He admitted five other charges at the beginning of that trial, the paper says.

Two other trials were pending but they were subsequently called off after he admitted 21 other charges, it adds. (ANI)

Latest trend in UK: News mums heading for boobs jobs soon after having babies

London, Mar 17 (ANI): An increasing number of new mums are going for boob-jobs soon after giving birth, raising concerns among health experts.

Many women make part of the young mum-brigade to go under the knife for getting breast implants within weeks of their babies’ births.

Mothers already make up 60 percent of breast augmentation patients, the third most common type of plastic surgery for women after birth, according to research.

Now almost one in three of those mums are under 30, according to statistics from Britain’s largest plastic surgery chain, The Harley Medical Group.

“I have seen mothers of 20 with three children come in for boob augmentations. Some come in almost straight from the labour ward,” the Mirror quoted Riccardo Frati, consultant plastic surgeon for the clinic, as saying.

His patients are young women who are not prepared to put off the operation until they’ve finished their families – or wait for time to take its toll on their breasts.

Instead, they want the fuller breasts that pregnancy and breast-feeding can bring, permanently – and while they are still young.

Concerns have already been raised about the number of young mums turning to plastic surgery.

However, implants can rule out breast-feeding and may make cancers harder to detect.

Frati has recommended that mums wait for their bodies to settle down before having surgery.

He also cautioned young mums that there’s a chance they will not be able to breast-feed again if they have implants – and in some cases the implants can be rejected if they try it.

Going for surgery carries a 20 percent risk that mums won’t be able to feed their babies naturally.

“Timing is important. I recommend waiting until six months after birth – or four months after the end of breast-feeding,” added Frati. (ANI)

Today’s women have far more sexual partners than those in swinging 60s

London, Mar 16 (ANI): Today’s young women have slept with three times as many men as girls of the same age in the so-called “Swinging Sixties”, known for mini skirts, the Rolling Stones and drugs, according to a study.

Despite the image of practicing free love, the average 24-year-old woman in the 1960s had 1.72 sexual partners.

On the other hand, today”s women of the same age have an average of 5.65 bed partners, which is more than her mother who is likely to have had 3.72 partners.

The study of 3,000 females of all ages, conducted by the chain Lloydspharmacy, comes as the chain voices fears of increased sexual health risks for women at a time when screening and better information should be reducing it.

A Lloydspharmacy spokeswoman said that cervical cancer rates in women under 25 have not decreased over the past decades despite better screening, possibly because of the greater number of partners, reports the Scotsman.

The chain is promoting a campaign for women to get a vaccine against HPV – the human papilloma virus – which is a sexually transmitted infection and a major cause of cervical cancer. (ANI)

Horny ghost on the prowl in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 18 (ANI): A horny orang minyak, which is supposed to be a ghost in Malay culture, is said to be terrorising about 300 families in Sungai Petani, picking homes where there are young women.

According to Kosmo!, Nurshahirah, 17, revealed that she was awakened at 5.40am on September 14 after she felt a warm sensation on her left ear, and when she opened her eyes she saw an apparition with curly hair and thick moustache standing by her bed.

“I was even more shocked when the ghost took off his kain pelikat and started to fondle himself,” the Star Online quoted her as saying.

Nurshahirah, who lives in Taman Keladi, said she felt powerless to ward off the apparition who started to grope her body, and that it was as though a charm had been placed on her.

In another incident, housewife Fatimah, 42, revealed she heard her two daughters crying out when they were woken up at 5am by dark apparitions that molested them.

Her 15-year-old daughter told her that she had been “violated” by a ghost.

“At first I thought she was talking in her sleep but she insisted that she was molested by a ghost before it moved to the kitchen,” Fatimah said.

She said her 14-year-old, too, cried and ran from the living room, saying a dark apparition had molested her.

“My 14-year-old daughter said she managed to kick the ghost who wore a kain pelikat and black singlet when she felt her body being touched,” she revealed.

“She screamed and the ghost ran out of her room,” she added.

Fatimah said she gave chase with a parang but the apparition disappeared.

She also said the apparition could have placed a charm on her family because none of the neighbours heard her daughters’ screams. (ANI)

Mafia may be behind Berlusconi’s sex scandal, claims coalition partner

London, Sept 12 (ANI): Responding to the sex scandal engulfing Silvio Berlusconi, Umberto Bossi, the key coalition partner in the Italian PM’s government, said he believed Mafia had orchestrated all the dirty activities.

“I think everything has been put in place by the Mafia,” Bossi, the leader of the Northern League, said as he arrived at an event in Pian del Re in the north of the country.

He added: “We have introduced very tough laws against the Mafia.

“I already said to Berlusconi, ‘Look out because the Mafia is involved in that; the Mafia organises prostitution’. I am convinced that the Mafia organised this thing here.”

On Thursday, for the first time, Berlusconi admitted that Giampaolo Tarantini, a businessman, had brought “beautiful women” to his parties but denied that he had ever paid for sex, reports The Times.

In May, Berlusconi’s estranged wife, Veronica Lario, had announced that she wanted a divorce from the premier after accusing him of being “not well” and obsessed with young women.

She was apparently furious over his attendance at the 18th birthday party of an aspiring lingerie model, Noemi Letizia.

Later an escort, Patrizia D’Addario, claimed that she and another prostitute had sexual intercourse with the prime minister at his official residence in Rome following a private party. (ANI)

Now, Berlusconi says most Italians want to be like him

London, Sept 8 (ANI): After describing himself as “Superman”, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has said: “Most Italians want to be like me.”

The controversial 72-year-old premier, who has repeatedly denied allegations of inappropriate relationships with young women, insisted during a television interview: “Most Italians would like to be like me and they support my behaviour.

“Italian aren’t stupid, as the Left thinks, and they prefer my government.

“Just look at the polls, we have an approval rating sailing towards 70 per cent”.

The premier’s personal life came under media glare after news of him attending birthday of Noemi Letizia, 18, a model, erupted, reports The Telegraph.

However, he has insisted that “nothing spicy” happened between him and Letizia.

He has also said he cannot remember the escort Patrizia D’Addario, 42, spending the night at his official Palazzo Grazioli residence in Rome.

Last week Berlusconi described himself as “Superman”.(ANI)

Berlusconi declares himself “Superman”

London, Sept 3 (ANI): Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has declared himself a “Superman”.

While praising his achievements in office and replying back to his critics and estranged wife, Veronica Lario, the 72-year-old said: “I’m not ill.

“You only have to look at what I’ve achieved over the last 15 months in government to see that not only am I not in poor health, I’m Superman.”

In May, Lario had announced that she wanted a divorce from the premier after accusing him of being “not well” and obsessed with young women, reports The Telegraph.

She was apparently furious over his attendance at the 18th birthday party of an aspiring lingerie model, Noemi Letizia.

Most women own a pair of “skinny jeans” they hope to fit into someday

Melbourne, Sept 2 (ANI): They have finally confessed it – nearly every woman owns a secret pair of “skinny jeans” which she hopes to diet her way back into, a new Australian study has found.

What’s more, study by the Young Women’s Christian Association found that about 70 per cent admit holding onto the hope that too small clothes will eventually fit them.

However, experts have warned women about the dangers of dieting, reports The Courier Mail.

Body image expert Professor Marika Tiggemann said that while women spent time, money and energy on worrying about being thinner, it was “a waste”.

The expert added that many women suffered under the “false hope” they were going to drop several sizes.

“Most of the advice you get from the positive body image stuff is to throw away things that don’t fit and buy good clothes that fit you now,” she said.

The survey also found three-quarters of women were unhappy with their body size. (ANI)

Janet Jackson eyes personal tell-all book

Washington, August 25 (ANI): Janet Jackson is reportedly planning to write a personal tell-all book, in order to help herself cope with the grief of her brother Michael’s death.

The songbird will purportedly also detail her own battle with issues like self-esteem and weight, along with the family’s struggle to come to terms with the loss of the King of Pop.

“She is going to talk about Michael’s death and how it’s affected her and his children and the rest of the family… A lot of it will focus on her battle with self-esteem and weight,” Contactmusic quoted a source as having told In Touch Weekly.

“She’s a huge success. But that’s not always what she has seen when she looks in the mirror, so the book will talk about how she has coped, and about her family relationships. She wants to help other young women out there,” the source added. (ANI)

Botox use becoming as common as hair dye for blasé Gen Y

Melbourne, Aug 24 (ANI): For young women, using Botox has become as acceptable as dying hair, say cosmetic surgeons.

While older women are more concerned with fixing lines and wrinkles, women in their 20s are flocking to change the shape of their eyebrows and lips, the experts said.

Dr Gabrielle Caswell, head of the Cosmetic Physicians Society, says young women are turning to Botox to follow fleeting fashion trends.

“A lot of the girls are using it as a fashion trend,” News.com.au quoted Caswell saying.

“They do like the plump lips … and it’s very trendy to have flanged outer eyebrows,” Caswell added.

Caswell said that some young women also had frown-lines flattened, but the overwhelming majority just want a new style.

Bondi cosmetic surgeon Michael Zacharia said reshaped eyebrows were particularly popular with young women.

“I see quite a number of younger patients coming through. More often, I see the younger ones coming in and ask for their eyebrows to be lifted,” Zacharia said. (ANI)

Oz Federal Govt. cracks downs on weight-loss industry as obesity rate rises

Melbourne, Aug 19 (ANI): The Federal Government in Australia has decided to take a look into the massive diet and weight-loss industry, following reports that the obesity rate in the country is still climbing.

Weight-loss programs and products will have to prove that they can help people keep off the kilos long-term as the Federal Government cracks down on the 414-million dollar-a-year industry.

The Kevin Rudd Government’s Preventative Health Taskforce is understood to have called for the weight-loss industry to be regulated in a report handed down last month.

It follows growing evidence that diets may actually be adding to the obesity crisis, as overweight people lose weight rapidly while following programs, but quickly put it back on after they stop.

The taskforce said that young women in particular were spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year on such programs to manage their weight.

Despite this, the nation’s obesity rate was climbing with more than 60 per cent of adults now overweight or obese.

While weight-loss programs and pharmacy-based meal replacement programs were popular, the task force said there was limited data to show they were actually effective.

It wants a wide-ranging review of diet products and a common code of practice drawn up covering the cost, the training of counsellors and the promotion of the diets.

The Dietitians Association of Australia is backing the recommendation.

According to the Daily Telegraph, a spokesman said all commercial diet programs should be assessed by a body of experts similar to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which assesses drugs for safety and efficacy before they can go on sale.

The association said regulation should require businesses marketing a diet program to provide evidence to a panel of experts showing what percentage of those who used the diet kept the weight off two years after starting.

Chief executive Claire Hewat said a good diet would result in weight loss of about half a kilogram per week.

“If you can lose 5 per cent of your body weight you are doing really well,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.

“Diets are not the point, it’s lifestyle change that is needed,” she stated. (ANI)
