Chaos, mismanagement forces Shoania, family to flee ‘walima’ reception hall

Lahore, Apr.28 (ANI): Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the ‘walima’ reception of the newly married sports couple Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik, and ceremony ended early as overcrowding at the banquet hall gave way to complete mismanagement.

Several high profile guests, including Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer and federal population welfare minister Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan attended the party.

A smiling Sania, wearing a sea-green sharara entered the hall holding her new hubby’s hand, who was in a black suit, but the couple along with their family members left the venue shortly after the hall swelled with people.

Similar scenes were seen during the reception ceremony at Sialkot, Shoaib’s hometown, which was organised at a hockey stadium, as more than 2000 people turned up for the function against the 1000 invitees.

In their bid to prevent ‘uninvited guests’, private security guards present outside the reception venue did not even allow some of Shoaib’s relatives and friends to enter the stadium, which gave way to a heated argument between both sides. The matter was resolved only after some other family members intervened. (ANI)

Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan: Gilani

Islamabad, Sep.20 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani is back to singing his ‘K-tune’ by describing Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein.

Interacting with a group of political leaders during an Iftaar party at the PM House here, Gilani said Islamabad’s policy on Kashmir was based on Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s stance that “Kashmir was the jugular vein of Pakistan.”

Referring to the government’s recent decision to grant internal autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilani said Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir would remain unchanged.

“I want to express in clear and unequivocal terms that this decision of the government will not bring any change in Pakistan’s principled stand on Kashmir,” Gilani said.

Gilani blamed India of neglecting the long pending Kashmir issue and said that Pakistan wants a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

“We want to resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully and have invited India for negotiations, despite it repeatedly ignoring them,” The Daily times quoted Gilani, as saying.

Gilani said he had categorically told Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during their meeting at the margins of the NAM summit in Sharm-el-Sheikh earlier this year that resolving the issue was very important for establishing peace in the region.

“There could be no peace in the region until the Kashmir dispute was resolved according to the aspirations of its people,” he added. (ANI)

Malik seeks Sharif’s support to contain lawyers’ long march

Lahore, Jan 19 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani’s Interior Adviser Rehman Malik has conveyed a “special message” from President Asif Zardari to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, and discussed the lawyers’ long march, seeking Sharif’s support on the issue.

Malik also discussed the Punjab Governor’s controversial statements, a disqualification case against the Sharif brothers and bills for undoing the 17th Amendment.

PML-N officials claimed that Malik had visited Raiwind on Sunday to seek support of the Punjab Government “in handling the proposed long march without any eventuality.”

“Malik wants the PML-N to extend only symbolic support to the lawyers and avoid making it a big show in view of the deteriorating law and order situation and tension on borders,” they said.

Sharif urged the PPP to implement the Charter of Democracy (CoD) and fulfill the promise of reinstating deposed judges, they said. He said the PML-N would support the legal community.

He said that his party had taken the responsibility of repealing the 17th Amendment to the Constitution after the government’s failure to move a bill in this regard.

Seeking PPP’s support for the bill, he expressed the hope that all democratic forces would support the 18th amendment.

Sharif expressed his reservations over the attitude of Governor Salman Taseer, and demanded that the PPP leadership should bar him from issuing controversial statements, which could increase tension between the coalition partners.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, Malik said the talks had primarily focused on law and order and foreign threats.

He said the government would accept parliament’s decision on the 17th Amendment. (ANI)
