This is the second time this week that Gaga has flashed New Yorkers her middle finger. She was caught in the same pose at a hot dog stand on June 8. (ANI)

Family friend says the Gores just ”grew apart” after 40 years of marriage

New York, June 4 (ANI): Washington Post journalist Sally Quinn, a longtime friend of the Gores, said Al and Tipper just grew apart after 40 years of marriage.

Quinn told CBS” “The Early Show” on Wednesday that she had never heard any rumors of infidelity and thinks the pair just “grew apart.”

“They were sort of nomads in a way. They went back to Tennessee, but they didn”t really live there,” the New York Daily News quoted Quinn, as saying.

“Al traveled a lot. They sort of migrated to the West Coast, where Tipper has an apartment, and Al has a lot of business. But he was traveling all the time. And, I think, their interests just diverged,” she added.

Quinn also said Tipper may have wanted to branch out on her own.

“It may be that she”s just tired of being the wife, and wants to be someone who can accomplish something on her own,” Quinn said.

Although Quinn believes neither of the Gores was unfaithful, she is deeply upset by the couple”s split.

“The interesting thing is, that usually when something like this happens, you get a sense of glee, people that are saying, ”I told you so,” or ”I knew it” or whatever,” she said. “I have only encountered sadness.”

The Gores announced their separation in an e-mail to friends on Tuesday, writing the split was “a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration.” (ANI)

‘Too hot’ woman fired by Citibank was male customers’ eye candy

New York, June 4 (ANI): Before Citigroup fired her, Debrahlee Lorenzana was immensely popular among male fans, who were always eager to catch a glimpse of her.

Debrahlee Lorenzana contends Citigroup dumped her because her outfits were too hot for her easily distracted co-workers to handle.

“I would walk the extra few blocks just to go to this one to see her,” The New York Daily News quoted publicist Matt Saulk, 36, who favoured the Rockefeller Center branch where Lorenzana worked over one on W. 52nd St.

“I would think Citibank would want employees like her – it brings in the customers.”

Harold Mack, a paralegal, says “Whew, she was a hot one.

“I”m sad she”s gone, but she did stick out. I know she distracted me whenever I came into the bank.”

However, the distractions weren’t limited to just the men.

“She would come in wearing expensive designer clothes that showed off her body, when everyone else was wearing normal clothes for a workplace,” one female bank teller said. “She knew how she looked, and she used it to her advantage.”

Citigroup had fired the banker apparently for “being too hot” and said that Lorenzana”s suit is packed with “unfounded accusations and inaccurate statements.”

“While we will not discuss the details of her case, we can say that her termination was solely performance-based and not at all related to her appearance or attire,” said Natalie Riper, a Citi spokeswoman. “We are confident that when all of the facts and documentation are presented, the claim will be dismissed.”

She now works for another financial firm she declined to identify, but her old Citibank customers still miss her. (ANI)

40pc US teens sexually active, prefer rhythm method of birth control: Study

New York, June 4 (ANI): Forty percent teen girls aged 15 to 19 say they”ve had sex at least once and prefer the rhythm method of birth control, according to new statistics.

The report also found that youngsters are casual about pregnancy, which researchers say may help explain why the teen pregnancy rate is no longer dropping, as it was earlier.

Overall, teenage use birth control methods and teen attitudes toward pregnancy have remained about the same since a similar survey was done in 2002.

There are some bright results too – more girls prefer the rhythm method— timing sex to avoid fertile days to prevent getting pregnant— probably along with another form of birth control. That”s up from 11 percent in 2002.

However, the rhythm method is only 75 per cent effective.

The survey results were based on face-to-face interviews with nearly 2,800 teens ages 15 through 19 at their homes in the years 2006 through 2008.

“We”ve known the decline in childbearing stalled out. This report kind of fills in the why,” The New York Daily News quoted Bill Albert, a spokesman for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. (ANI)

Give it up for the latest fashion fad – high heels for men!

Men have invaded women’s wardrobe a little further – as high heels for males is the newest couture craze.

Gender-bending stiletto styles and pointy, rock-star-esque heeled boots are apparently the favourites.

Also, there are “Status shoes,” worn by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, with visible heels of 1 1/4 inch and a hidden 1 ½-inch lift inside the shoe.

According to Times Online, men were seen wearing heels in the audience at the Fashion Week collections of Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens in Paris, Rodarte in New York and Pam Hogg in London.

British designer Gareth Pugh among others has been spotted sporting women’s heels.

Also, American designer Marc Jacobs admitted he has kept women”s heels in his collection.

“If I put heels in a collection I always try them on and walk around the studios in them during the fittings, which take up to 36 hours. It raises a laugh with the team for about five minutes because they’ve seen me do it so many times,” the New York Daily News quoted Jacobs, as saying.

He added: “But that’s not why I do it. I do it because I want to show that I’m not some misogynist designer designing these torturous shoes for women. The heels are there as a choice and if you want to wear them all the time, some of the time or never, it’s your choice.”

Sarah Palin vents fury about exposé seeking neighbour on Facebook

New York, May 26 (ANI): Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has vented her fury on Facebook regarding author Joe McGinniss becoming her neighbour so he can write an exposé about her.

Palin, 46, made the discovery May 24 after she asked her husband, Todd, to “introduce himself to the stranger who was peering in” from her neighbour’s deck in Wasilla, Alaska.

“He’s rented the place for the next five months or so,” the New York Daily News quoted Palin as writing on Facebook on May 25.

“He moved up all the way from Massachusetts to live right next to us – while he writes a book about me.

“Wonder what kind of material he’ll gather while overlooking Piper’s bedroom, my little garden and the family’s swimming hole?” she stated.

Piper Palin is the former GOP vice presidential nominee’s 9-year-old daughter.

McGinniss, 67, would not comment, but his publisher, Broadway Books, said the author “will be highly respectful of his subject’s privacy as he investigates her public activities”.

McGinniss, who wrote “Fatal Vision” and “The Selling of the President”, has tried to get up close and personal with the former Alaska governor before.

Last year, he offered to pay 59,999 dollars to dine with Palin at a charity auction but was outbid.

Palin says she might try to sweeten up McGinniss with some “homemade blueberry pie so he’ll know how friendly Alaskans are”, and if that did not work out she would go to plan B.

“You know what they say about ‘Fences make for good neighbours?’ Well, we’ll get started on that tall fence tomorrow,” she added. (ANI)

White House party crashers now barge onto David Letterman”s stage

New York, May 26 (ANI): Gatecrashing seems to have become a habit with Tareq and Michaele Salahi – the couple are now making news for barging on stage during the “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Waitress claims US restaurant Hooters put her on ”weight restriction”

New York, May 21 (ANI): A waitress, who took up employment with American restaurant chain Hooters, claims that she was put on ”weight restriction” after she was deemed too fat.

Cassie Smith, 20, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and 132 pounds, is well within a normal weight range, but she claims the measurements were not good enough for Hooters.

During an evaluation about her uniform, she said two women who worked at the Atlanta headquarters hinted that she needed to lose some weight.

Smith, who works at the Roseville, Mich., Hooters, says the women gave her a free 30-day membership to a gym and gave her 30 days to lose weight or risk losing her job.

“These women proceeded to explain to me that I had 30 days and they would give me a free gym membership, and if I didn”t improve within those 30 days I would be separated from the company,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

“If I improved a little bit I would get 30 more days, and if I improved completely they would leave me alone,” she revealed.

Smith says she is “horrified” and “humiliated” by this.

Hooters has denied Smith”s claims, saying “no employee in Michigan has been counselled about their weight”.

The chain adds, however, that it “will say that our practice of upholding an image standard based on appearance, attire and fitness for Hooters Girls is both legal and fair”.

The company likens its policies on appearance to that of the Dallas Cowboy”s cheerleaders and the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.

Smith has consulted an attorney and may take legal action.

“I don”t want other girls to have to go through this. I don”t want anyone to have to go through this,” she said.

“If I could”ve gone back and not worked there for two years to take back that feeling, I would do it,” she added. (ANI)
