Action against party men who discuss ‘Jinnah’: Rajnath Singh

Rohtak (Haryana), Sep 6(ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Sunday warned the party members to avoid talking about Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the man who BJP holds responsible for the division of the country and massacre of lakhs of people, failing which would invite a strict action from the party.

“Jinnah was responsible for dividing the country into two. We won’t accept a person like Jinnah, who was responsible for the massacre of lakhs of people. So, if anybody talks about him, we won’t hesitate to take a strict action against him or her,” Rajnath Singh said.

BJP crisis boiled over after senior party leader Jaswant Singh was expelled for writing a book sympathetic to Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP hold Jinnah responsible for India’s partition, and its strong views on that were notices at the expulsion of Jaswant Singh.

Singh further said that BJP was not against Muslims, on the other hand it has always sought to unite people belonging from different religions and creed. (ANI)

Congress party terms BJP’s internal crisis “unfortunate”

New Delhi, Aug.30 (ANI): Congress party on Sunday termed the internal crisis in the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as “unfortunate.”

Expressing concern over the crisis in the BJP, senior Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said BJP should be stable, so as to fulfil its duties as the country’s main opposition party.

“I would call it (the crisis in Bharatiya Janata Party) unfortunate, that the main opposition party of the country is undergoing such a political and internal crisis. This is not good for the democracy of the country. We may benefit out of the crisis in our rival party but country’s main opposition must be stable, strong and fulfil its duties efficiently,” Chaturvedi said.

BJP leaders have been holding hectic parleys with Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) following the crisis in the party which triggered after the expulsion of senior leader Jaswant Singh for writing a book on Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, earlier the BJP President Rajnath Singh has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to worry about the developments in his party.

Rajnath Singh comment came in response to Saturday statement by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in which he said: “The situation in the BJP is not good…it is BJP’s internal matter but stability in political parties is most necessary in a democracy, otherwise, it will have an impact on the country.”

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar informed the media on Sunday that Rajnath had written a letter to Singh in this regard.

” Rather than worrying about he development in the BJP, we urge you to concentrate on the developmental work. The farmers of the country are suffering from the drought. Constitute a Task Force to tackle the drought situation. Take immediate steps to tackle price rise,” Javadekar quoted Rajnath’s letter, as saying. (ANI)

Book on Nehru would have gone ‘unnoticed’ in Pak: PML-N

Islamabad, Aug.21 (ANI): Expressing solidarity with expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has criticized the BJP for throwing Singh out of the party for writing a book on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, saying if anybody would have written a book on Jawaharlal Nehru in Pakistan, it would have not created such a furor.

Interacting with media persons here, PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq said Singh’s expulsion has exposed the ‘narrow-mindedness’ of BJP towards Muslim leaders.

“I don’t understand why there is so much resentment among the BJP over Jaswant Singh’s book. If anybody in Pakistan had written a praiseworthy book on Nehru, nobody in Pakistan would have noticed it,” he said.

Haq said the incident has proved that discrimination still prevailed in India despite its claims of being a democratic country.

“Whether it is Congress or the BJP, the thinking and approach of Indian political parties is the same towards Pakistan and Muslims,” The Daily Times quoted Haq, as saying.

He added that BJP’s ‘shameful’ act has exposed secularism in the Indian society.

Singh was expelled from the BJP on Wednesday for writing a book-Jinnah-India, Partition, Independence- which, according to the party, was against the basic ideology of the party. (ANI)

Emotional Jaswant Singh “saddened” by his expulsion from BJP

Shimla, Aug.19 (ANI): A shattered and emotionally overwrought Jaswant Singh on Wednesday said that his expulsion from the Bharatiya Janata Party for writing a book in which he described the founder of Pakistan, M.A.Jinnah, as a secular being, had saddened him to such an extent that he could not find the right words to react.

Interacting with media persons here on the sidelines of the BJP’s Chintan Baithak, Singh said: “I told Rajnathji, if I had been informed about the decision by Advaniji or Rajnathji himself, about the decision, I would have not denied. If such a decision had already been taken, I should have been told in Delhi itself.”

“It was saddening that even the courtesy or formality of issuing a show cause notice was not considered necessary,” Singh said.

“I retired from the Army in 1967 for the service of the country. I am not pensioner. My party has found it fit to expel me that too without reading the book. I cannot understand my expulsion. I opt to keep quite on it. It’s saddening,” Singh added.

Jaswant expressed his inability to comprehend the reaction of the BJP on just a book.

He said: “I can understand the Congress party’s reaction on the book, but not of the BJP.”

“The day the process of Soch-Vichar, Chintan, Padhan-Likhan, Lekhan (thinking or questioning, pondering, reading and writing) would stop in Indian politics, it would not be good for the Indian politics,” Jaswant remarked.

Singh confirmed that it was Rajnath Singh who had informed him over the phone about his expulsion.

“I was telephoned by the BJP President that I should absent myself from the Chintan Baithak. Later, I was called up through phone that I have been expelled from primary membership of the party,” Jaswant Singh said.

Talking about his association with the BJP for over three decades since the time of its formation, Jaswant said: “I think I have served the party to the best of my ability for 30 years. I was assigned several responsibilities under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji for which I am grateful to the party.”

A visibly hurt Jaswant Singh mentioned a cartoon once published, by India Today in which he was described as the Hanuman (saviour) of the BJP. “Today, I am sorry to say that I am being treated as a Ravana (the King of Demons),” he remarked.

“I would like to say, based on my study, that Jinnah was an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity, and he also condemned the great Calcutta killing. I have committed no sin, none whatsoever against India. I was as objective as possible in the party, and I am saddened from the BJP comment that ‘he was not active’.”

He said that Rajnath Singh had asked him whether he would be writing more books, and he had replied in the affirmative, saying that his next magnum opus would be on Rajaji (Chakravarti Rajagopalachari)(ANI)

Jaswant Singh says he sent an advance copy of his book to Advani

Shimla, Aug. 19 (ANI): In a startling revelation, expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh said on Wednesday that he had sent an advance copy of his latest book ” Jinnah – India-Partition-Independence” to senior party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani, and therefore, this made his removal from the party after 30 years of association even more painful and shocking.

Interacting with journalists here on the sidelines of a three-day party Chintan Baithak, which he is not attending in the wake of his sudden expulsion, Jaswant Singh said that at the time of his sending the book over to Advani, there was no reaction or hint of things to come, and this made his expulsion from the party one of the saddest episodes of his adult life.

He said he never could have imagined in his wildest dreams that he would be expelled from the BJP just for “writing a book”. The book, he said, was a personal viewpoint, and had nothing to do with the policies or stances of the BJP.

Singh’s revelation came hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh announced that Singh was being expelled from the BJP.

Singh, who arrived here last evening for the Chintan Baithak of the party, kept away from the meeting by changing his hotel.

According to sources Singh kept away citing bad health. He also skipped a dinner hosted by Advani.

The BJP has distanced itself from the book and Singh’s views on Jinnah.

BJP is meeting here to discuss the causes for the party”s defeat in 2009 general elections and its strategy for the future.

The meeting is also likely to take up the issue of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who has refused to quit as Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly.

Over 25 senior party leaders, including members of the party’s parliamentary board and chief ministers Narendra Modi of Gujarat, Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh, Ramesh Pokhriyal of Uttarakhand and B.S. Yeddyurappa of Karnataka, will participate in the three-day meeting. (ANI)

Polish priest’s book offers married couples tips about ‘saucy’ sex life

London, May 14 (ANI): A priest in Poland has raised many eyebrows by writing a book in which he advises married couples on how to make their sex life “saucy and fantasy packed”.

Titled ‘Sex as you don’t know it: For married couples who love God’, the book is being touted as the “Catholic Kama Sutra” in the country.

Written by Father Ksawery Knotz, the tome goes against the traditional attitudes of the church towards sex.

However, the Franciscan friar has his own reservations about going into graphic detail about how married couples can spice up their sex lives.
“Every act – a type of caress, a sexual position – with the goal of arousal is permitted and pleases God. During sexual intercourse, couples can show their love in every way, can offer one another the most sought after caresses,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying in the book.

However, he further said that explicit sexual acts beyond that required simply for procreation.

Knotz explained that sex in marriage should not be boring but “saucy, surprising and fantasy packed”.

The book is available through one of Poland’s biggest retail chains, and has the backing of the country’s Catholic Church.

It has become such a big hit with the masses that the publishers are already contemplating a reprint.

Knotz said that he wrote the book because there was a need to address issues such as sex, which used to be considered taboo by the Catholic Church in the past.

He added that he also wanted to get away from the staid attitude that many in the Church have towards sex.

“I compare sex to a football match. There are rules, for example you can’t foul or kick the ball out. However, what goes on on the pitch may involve matches of different standards, different leagues. There can be fantastic matches as well as boring ones,” he said.

Although many of his countrymen have questioned the competency of a celibate monk who lives in monastery to write about sex, Knotz has claimed that his experience comes from listening to married couples talk about sex.

In fact, he said that he has run a website giving sexual advice in both Polish and English for almost a year. (ANI)

“Women in America are going to be thinner because of this book, Oprah is going to be thinner, nobody needs to freak out anymore,” she added.

However, an infuriated Mayer has dismissed the reports, and is contemplating taking the publication to court over the claims.
