Jennifer Aniston keeps fit by running around horse track

Washington, September 20 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston has been running hard to maintain her fitness while shooting new film ‘The Bounty.’

The actress reportedly woke up at 5a.m in the morning and ran laps around New Jersey’s Monmouth Park racecourse to the surprise of the crewmembers.

“She showed up every morning at 5am to run laps on the giant oval for a solid hour before cameras rolled,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

“She’s really disciplined about keeping fit. She’d get there before everyone else and zip around that huge track like a winner!” the source added.

The ‘Break-Up’ star apparently prefers running to other fitness regimes as it keeps her thighs and calves toned.

Even earlier this year, it was reported that she woke up at 3am to work out so that she could stick to her busy shooting schedule.

A source said at the time: “Jennifer has had a totally overhaul for this film. She wants to be seriously fit, yet remain curvy.

“There are a lot of early starts on set, so she has had to get up at 3am to get two hours in the gym before getting ready for filming.” (ANI)

It was a unique way of spreading awareness among the beauty conscious women of the North East and provides them a platform to enter the world of mainstream modelling.

Clark hopes next generation of Oz cricketers value country above the dollar

Sydney, Sep.17 (ANI): Experienced Australian seamer Stuart Clark has warned that he can only hope the next generation of Australian cricketers values playing for their country ahead of chasing the almighty dollar on offer in the Indian Premier League and next month’s Champions League.

Skipper Ricky Ponting, who said he expected more people to follow in the footsteps of English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff and pursue the shorter version of the game, backed up Clark.

According to the Daily Telegraph, former one-day star Michael Bevan also weighed into the money-v-country debate when he questioned how much longer cricketers would be prepared to support the Test scene now that there were lucrative alternatives.

“What scares me the most is where does it leave the game if people just go chasing large sums of money for a bit of hit-and-giggle,” Clark told The Big Sports Breakfast.

“I think we as players all owe it to Test cricket to try and keep it afloat. I know the administration is working hard at it, but I personally hold grave fears for where the game is heading,” he added.

Clark said he had noticed youngsters at NSW getting excited about the money at next month’s Champions League in India, which offers a three million dollar purse to the winner and could earn the players 130,000 dollars each – the equivalent of a top-end state contract.

Ponting said more players could snub Test cricket to copy Flintoff.

“I think it probably could happen more and more especially with guys retiring from Test match cricket and wanting to play only the shorter versions of the game,” he said.

Bevan, who scored nearly 7000 runs in 232 one-dayers for Australia, told The Daily Telegraph: “I’d like to hope there is a strong allegiance shown by the players to Test cricket, but up until what point they continue to do that I’m not sure.” (ANI)

Leona Lewis refuses to open clothing line’s sale over fur use

London, September 7 (ANI): ‘X Factor’ winner Leona Lewis recently refused to open a clothing line’s sale, as they use fur in their items.

The singer believes if she had opened the Harrods’ sale and given the money to charity, it would still have been meaningless.

“I got a lot of flak for that. There were people who said I should have done it and given the money to charity, but that would have been such a contradiction,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

The ‘A Moment Like This’ hitmaker also mentioned that she had learnt to distinguish genuine people from the fakes in the glamour world.

She said: “I’ve just learned how to decipher the true, genuine people from the ones that want to know you for their own benefit along the way.” (ANI)

Now, preferential voting for best film Oscar

London, Sept 2 (ANI): The voting pattern for deciding the best movie at the Oscars is all set to change.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which presents the Oscars said preferential voting will now decide the best film.
Under the system, voters will rank nominees in their order of preference from 1 to 10.

The nominee who bags the most votes will be declared the winner.

The same preferential voting is used by the Academy in its nominating process.

However, it is being introduced to judge films for the first time since 1945.

The new voting procedure has been brought in to bring in more movies to compete for the award. Now 10 films can be accommodated in the category, which allowed only 5 previously.

The BBC quoted Academy president Tom Sherak as saying: “Instead of just marking an X to indicate which one picture they believe to be the best, members will indicate their second, third and further preferences as well,”

He said this would “establish the best picture recipient with the strongest support of a majority of our electorate”.

The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be declared on February 2, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. (ANI)

Karzai slammed his karakuli cap on table during explosive meeting with Holbrooke

Lahore, Aug. 31 (ANI): During the recent ‘explosive’ meeting between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and US special envoy Richard Holbrooke, Karzai is reported to have whipped off his distinctive karakuli cap and slammed it onto the dinner table.

“For an Afghan man to do that, it’s a big gesture,” a local businessman was quoted. “It’s like throwing down the gauntlet,” the Daily Times quoted an Afghan businessman, as saying.

According to reports, Holbrooke suggested holding a second round run-off following reports of massive fraud during the recent presidential elections.

Sources said, Karzai reacted very angrily at Holbrooke’s suggestion and the meeting ended shortly afterwards.

“They were discussing different scenarios and one of them was the possibility of a run-off,” the paper quoted a Karzai insider as saying. “That’s when there was a misunderstanding. There were strong words from both men.”

The Obama administration has not hidden its “disdain” for Karzai for running a corrupt government, the Sunday Times had reported.

US officials had downplayed the row and said they believed “Karzai’s agents leaked a selective version of the meeting to make it look as if he was resisting US pressure to force him to hold a second round when he was already the winner”, the report added.

However, the spokeswoman for the US embassy in Kabul has denied of any such altercation.

She denied reports about Holbrooke storming out of the meeting, and also refused to divulge details of the meeting. (ANI)

Shania Twain talks about her relationship with ex-secretary’s hubby

Washington, Aug 30 (ANI): Canadian singer Shania Twain has finally spoken out about her relationship with her ex-secretary’s husband.

The Grammy winner posted a video to tell her fans that she’s doing well and talked about her “dear friend”.

Twain marriage to Robert “Mutt” Lange fell apart in May 2008 following his affair with her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, a longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland.

In a nearly 15-minute video travelogue of her past year, the singer is seen enjoying skydiving and riding camels in Egypt.

“I want you to see for yourself that we are doing fine. I feel very alive and well, ready to take on the gift of another year,” People magazine quoted her as saying.

While Twain does not clarify whether she and Fred Thiébaud are an item, she called him as “a dear friend and true gentleman.”

“[He] has been the most constant companion and support for both Eja and I. And having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time and under the same extreme circumstances, he understands me better than anyone.

“We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We’ve become stronger and closer through it all, as have our children, Eja and Johanna, Fred’s 8-year-old daughter,” she added.(ANI)

U.S.-Afghan ties strained over election: NYT

New York, Aug.29 (ANI): Reports of widespread fraud in the second presidential elections in Afghanistan have introduced an unwanted strain in the relationship between Kabul and the United States.

Afghanistan’s Electoral Complaints Commission said Friday that it had received over 2,000 complaints of fraud or abuse in last week’s election.

Karzai’s biggest rival and former foreign minister, Abdullah Abdullah, showed reporters video of a local election chief in one polling station stuffing ballot boxes.

The vote count has progressed very slowly in Afghanistan – as of Friday, preliminary results with 17 percent of the vote in gave Karzai 44 percent and Abdullah 35 percent. If no candidate wins 50 percent of the vote, a runoff must be held between the top two candidates.

For US President Barack Obama, who is on vacation here in Martha’s Vineyard, and his administration, it is the worst of all possible outcomes.

According to the New York Times, administration officials have made no secret of their growing disenchantment with Karzai, who is viewed by the West as having so compromised himself to try to get elected – including striking deals with accused drug dealers and warlords for political gain.

But Karzai has shrewdly managed to turn that disenchantment to an advantage, portraying himself at home as the only political candidate willing to stand up to the dictates of the United States, according to Western officials.

Last week, Karzai and Richard C. Holbrooke, Obama’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, are said to have had a heated interaction in Kabul over the way the elections may have been manipulated.

Holbrooke said that while Washington is maintaining a neutral position on the polls, did express concern about the complaints about fraud and ballot-box stuffing.

Holbrooke is also said to have demanded a runoff election in what one report characterized as the “explosive” meeting with Karzai.

Obama administration officials accused Karzai’s agents of leaking to the news media select portions of the exchange between the two men, in order to make it look as if Washington is trying to force the rightful winner of the Afghan presidential elections – Karzai – into holding a runoff to satisfy American demands.

Whatever the case, the atmosphere may now have become so poisoned between the United States and Karzai that the Obama administration will be hampered no matter what course it takes. (ANI)

Mirren to star in big-screen remake of Graham Greene’s novel Brighton Rock

London, Aug 28 (ANI): Actress Dame Helen Mirren is set to star in new film Brighton Rock, adapted from Graham Greene’s classic 1939 novel of the same title.

The Oscar winner will play amateur detective Ida Arnold in the movie.

The plot revolves around teenager Pinkie, who seduces a young waitress after she stumbles on evidence linking him and his gang to a revenge killing committed by Pinkie.

Mirren will have the task cut out to find the truth behind the killing.

Rowan Joffe has written the script and will direct the film too.

And he intends to make it look as contemporary as possible.

“We’re making Brighton Rock as contemporary as we possibly can because the story feels ‘modern’. It’s too alive, too vibrant and too relevant to be contained in the late 1930s,” the BBC News quoted him as saying.

Also starring in the film, set in 1964, is Sam Riley, who will play the lead character Pinkie Brown apart from Pete Postlethwaite and Happy Go Lucky’s Andrea Riseborough.

Shooting is scheduled to start in October this year. (ANI)

Flintoff wants to become best one-day player in the world

London, Aug 25 (ANI): All rounder Andrew Flintoff, who underwent a knee operation 24 hours after his heroics helped England regain the Ashes, wants to become best one day player in the world.

Flintoff was devastated last week when told by specialist Andy Williams that he would require more surgery as he has already had four on his right ankle.

“Wearing the three lions is a massive incentive and I want to wear them again,” The Sun quoted Flintoff, as saying.

“My aim is to become the best one-day player in the world and play in the next two World Cups for England,” he said.

If Flintoff is fit to play in Bangladesh, he could then go to the IPL for a six-week campaign with his Chennai Super Kings franchise.

“I’ve been an Ashes winner twice and I’ve played 79 Tests. I’m happy. I enjoyed the celebrations but it has dawned on me that the next time England play a Test match I’m not going to be involved.

“I’ve never achieved greatness. Look at the greats of our game – Garry Sobers, Ian Botham and Ricky Ponting have achieved greatness over a long period of time. I’ve done it occasionally,” he added.

England coach Andy Flower is confident that Flintoff has not played his final game for England.

“He’s had a tough time with injuries and has always fought back. He looks after himself well and is a strong man. I’m sure he’ll come back and do great things for England’s one-day team,” Flower said. (ANI)
