Catherine Zeta Jones says she’s not aesthetically beautiful

London, May 15 (ANI): Welsh born Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta Jones has admitted that she is not “aesthetically beautiful”.

Despite being voted one of the world”s most beautiful women many times, the 40 year-old admits to having insecurities about her looks, reports The Telegraph.

“I am not aesthetically beautiful,” she said in an interview.

“I have a broken nose, I had a tracheotomy when I was a kid, I have broken capillaries and I’m always asking my husband ‘do I look fat in this dress? Can you see that spot on my face’.”

She admitted she was “crazy in love” with her older husband, Michael Douglas.

“I am crazy in love with my husband. The biggest misconception of me is that I’m some diehard, ambitious, do anything-get-anything kind of person,” she said.

“But actually I’m very shy socially. I get perceived sometimes like ‘ta da!’ Here comes the showgirl’ but I’m a lot more reserved and quiet than I let on,” she told the Sunday Express magazine. (ANI)

London, May 10 (ANI): Wife of former England football captain and Match Of The Day host Gary, Danielle Lineker, admits she could do without the beautiful game.

“I get a gut-full of it at home,” The Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“Occasionally I try to take an interest in football because it’s Gary’s work but I could live without it,” she added.

Although married to a Leicester City footballer, Welsh-born Danielle’s family support Cardiff City, who defeated Lineker’s hometown club Leicester City lost 1-0 to Cardiff City in a play-off semi-final yesterday.

Tribunal bans Welsh for four weeks

Essendon vice-captain Andrew Welsh has put his character on trial at the AFL tribunal and lost.

His bid to halve a four-match ban for kneeing Hawthorn midfielder Xavier Ellis in the groin backfired, with the tribunal ruling that Welsh must serve the full penalty.

The Bombers midfielder testified that he would never intentionally knee an opponent in the groin and said the match-day report had caused him great embarrassment.

“It was simply a reaction to the player coming in to block,” Welsh said.

“I’m vice-captain of the football club, in the last two days I haven’t been able to look my team-mates in the eye.

“It’s one of the worst things you can do.”

Welsh pleaded guilty to the charge, but tried to have it downgraded from intentional conduct to reckless.

Had he succeeded, it would have reduced the penalty to two matches.

Welsh could also have taken the early plea and accepted a three-man suspension.

Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton said the club backed Welsh’s character, but would not appeal the tribunal decision.

“We’re disappointed, we understand the character of Andrew Welsh, a player who has never been suspended, so we’re disappointed in the finding,” Hamilton said.

“But it is the finding and we must accept it and we must unfortunately move on from there.

“Certainly the reason we’re here tonight is because he believes strongly he had no intent in making contact to the groin.

“Andrew will have no problem facing his team-mates, his team-mates will have no doubt in their minds (about) the character of the man.”

Tribunal advocate Jeff Gleeson successfully argued that Welsh had made two distinct movements, first kneeing Ellis as the Hawk tried to block him and then trying to chase opponent Brad Sewell.

The Hawks medical report on Ellis was also damning – it said Ellis was in “significant” pain post-match and was in some doubt for Saturday’s must-win game against West Coast at Subiaco.

In other tribunal news, minor facial surgery meant a one-day delay to Brisbane defender Matt Maguire facing the tribunal on a rough conduct charge.

Maguire was injured in a clash with Sydney’s Jude Bolton – the same incident that prompted the report.

Maguire is not expected to miss any matches because of the injury and will face the tribunal on Wednesday via video link.

The Lions backman is risking a two-game ban by contesting the charge.

Also on Tuesday, Melbourne captain James McDonald accepted a reprimand for striking North Melbourne’s Andrew Swallow.

Bolton took a reprimand for front-on contact against Brisbane’s Joel Patfull, while West Coast veteran Andrew Embley accepted his two-match ban for the same charge after an incident involving Fremantle onballer Rhys Palmer.

West Coast’s Matt Priddis was fined for negligent umpire contact and Fremantle newcomer Hayden Ballantyne and Eagle Adam Selwood accepted fines for wrestling each other.

England ‘least patriotic’ country in Europe: Survey

London, Apr 20(ANI): A new survey has found that England is the least patriotic country in Europe.

According to This England magazine’s study, respondents were questioned on several aspects of national pride, with English people judging their overall level of patriotism to be 5.8 out of ten on average.

It also revealed that just one in three British people were aware that the celebration of St. George was this Friday, while forty percent did not know why he is the patron saint.

Twenty percent blamed a broken society for their lack of patriotism, while half said they had been patriotic in the past.

“We’re incredibly disappointed that English people are afraid of displaying the St. George’s Cross on our patron saint’s day,” The Sun quoted Stephen Garnett, editor of This England magazine, as saying.

“It was quite shocking to see some of the results, particularly the amount of people that don’t fly the flag because of fear of being judged. It just shows what political correctness has done to the English people over the years,” he added.

The survey, which questioned 5,820 adults in nine European countries including Scotland, Wales and The Republic of Ireland, found that The Netherlands was the most patriotic European country.

The Dutch people ranked their patriotism at 7.18 out of ten, followed by Scottish at 7.1, the Welsh at 7.06 and the Irish at 6.72. (ANI)

“It’s like Gavin and Charlotte – he wants to raise his profile and fancied Duffy so he thought he’d try his luck.

Pocket watch found off Welsh coast returned- after 130 years!

London, Aug 19 (ANI): A silver pocket watch, which was lost 130 years ago, has finally being returned to the family of its owner.

The watch belonging to one Captain Richard Prichard lay at the bottom of the ocean for over a century.

Rich Hughes, a diver, spotted the watch in the sand as he explored a shipwreck sunk off the Welsh coast.

After bringing it to the surface, he saw the words “Richard Prichard 1866 Abersoch North Wales” engraved on the casing and set out in search of the family.

“I was amazed that the watch was in such good condition after laying at the bottom of the sea for generations,” the Telegraph quoted Hughes, 38, as saying.

“As soon as I saw the name it started me thinking about Richard Prichard.

“I knew he would be the master and commander of the ship – none of the crew would be able to afford a valuable timepiece,” he added.

Hughes discovered Prichard was the captain of the Barbara, a square-rigged barque which came to grief during a storm off the Pembrokeshire coast in 1881. He had mysteriously died earlier during the voyage to pick up a cargo of rice from Burma.

He was buried at sea and a new master, known only as Captain Jones, became the watch’s custodian – probably intending to give it to the Prichard family after arriving in Liverpool.

However, the vessel was hit by a storm and the Barbara sank off the village of Freshwater West, Pembrokeshire, in November 1881.

Hughes, of Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, used the internet to scan old manuals and shipping records and also took help of amateur historian David Roberts to trace Capt Prichard’s family.

The watch will be handed to retired dentist Owen Cowell, of Pwllheli, North Wales later this month.

Cowell’s grandmother was Captain Prichard’s cousin, making him the closest surviving family member.

“I am delighted the watch has come home after all these years,” said Cowell.

“It has come as a complete surprise to me that my ancestors had such a colourful, seafaring past,” he added. (ANI)

Ponting appeals to Welsh to support his team during Ashes

Cardiff (Wales), July 8 (ANI): Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has urged Welsh fans to support his team as the Ashes series starts in Cardiff today.

Ponting believes that old hostilities between the Welsh and the English could cause Cardiff locals to support Australia.

“I’m actually expecting a lot of support down here, considering we are in Wales,” The Sun quoted Ponting, as saying.

“Things might be the opposite way around, we might have more Australian supporters here than anything else,” he added.

Both Australia and England are refusing to divulge their teams for the much-anticipated Ashes opener.

“Only found out yesterday about Brett’s injury, we haven’t finalised our team yet,” Ponting said. (ANI)

“In Oz they get on your back, so it will be nice to get them back,” he added. (ANI)

“I’ve bought him some multi-vitamins which are meant to make your hair thicker, just in case,” she added. (ANI)

Michael Sheen left devastated after Peter Morgan quits Tony Blair movie

Washington, Jun 26 (ANI): Welsh actor Michael Sheen was left devastated when he came to know that his long time friend director Peter Morgan had quit work on his new Tony Blair movie ‘The Special Relationship’.

Sheen, 40, and Morgan, 46, had shared a close relationship ever since the screenwriter cast the actor in his 2006 play Frost/Nixon, which went onto become Sheen’s Oscar-nominated movie.

Morgan was also responsible for casting Sheen as former British Prime Minister Blair in his critically acclaimed film ‘The Queen’, and he was set to make his directorial debut in ‘The Special Relationship’ – based on Blair’s political relationship with former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

He has now pulled out just weeks before filming was due to start, without giving any reason for his decision, leaving Sheen struggling to comprehend the news.

“Michael and Peter have a very successful history together so this will inevitably come as a blow to Michael. Michael now has to get used to working with a different director,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling the Daily Express.

British filmmaker Richard Loncraine, who directed 2004 movie Wimbledon, will replace Morgan in the drama, which is due for release in 2011. (ANI)

Welsh mum finds Jesus looking back at her as she opens Marmite jar

London, May 29 (ANI): A 36-year-old woman in South Wales was surprised when she saw an image resembling Jesus upon opening a jar of Marmite.

Mum of three Claire Allen, of Ystrad, Rhondda, said that she was stunned to see Jesus staring back at her.

She revealed that the blobs of yeast extract under the lid had mysteriously formed the shape of a familiar bearded face.

“I opened the Marmite jar, put it on the breakfast bar and the lid caught my eye,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“I just looked at it and immediately thought, ‘That’s Jesus Christ’.

“It wasn’t a new jar, but I had never noticed it before,” she added.

Claire revealed that she also showed the image to her two eldest sons Jamie, 14, and Tomas, 11. I was about to do some Marmite on toast for Robbie’s breakfast when I saw the face,” she said. I showed it to my two eldest boys and straight away they could see a face. They thought it looked like the images of Jesus you see in paintings and stained glass windows,” she added.

Claire and her husband Gareth believe the incident to mean that the son of God is looking out for their family.

She said: “I’m not particularly religious – but we’ve had a tough couple of months and it’s comforting to think that if he is there, he’s watching over us.”

A spokesman for Marmite maker Unilever said: “While we know many people have a Marmite passion, we can’t promise a representation from Jesus in all of our jars.” (ANI)

Twenty20 no guide to Ashes line up, says Ponting

Sydney, May 27 (ANI): Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said next month’s Twenty20 championship would have little or no impact on the hotly debated bowling line-up for the first Test against England.

Australia is scheduled to play four-day matches against Sussex in Hove and then the second-tier England Lions in Worcester in the days leading up to the first Test at Sophia Gardens, which starts on July 8.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, at least one of the five pacers in the 16-man Ashes tour party – Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and Lee – must be omitted for the Cardiff Test and in all likelihood two of them could miss out because of the prospect of the Welsh pitch being tailor-made for spin.

With Johnson, the man of the series in South Africa in March, certain to spearhead the attack and both Clark and Siddle high in the pecking order, the World Twenty20, beginning next week in England, appeared to loom as a virtual audition for Lee and Hilfenhaus to press their claims.

However, before the Australian Twenty20 squad’s departure for England today, Ponting said the practice matches, not the hit-and-hope world championship, would be the key to solving the tourists’ fast-bowling selection dilemma.

“I don’t think you can really take much out of form in Twenty20 cricket when you’re looking at Test matches,” the Australian captain said at the squad’s training base at Coolum on the unshine Coast yesterday. (ANI)
