Syfy letting viewers create new movie

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Syfy is giving online fans a chance to write and design every aspect of an upcoming Saturday-night creature feature.

Television

The cable network is launching a production site, B Movie Mogul, where fans can vote and pitch ideas for the film, from title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue and character deaths to promotional taglines. The resulting “script” will be shot as a two-hour Syfy original movie to be released next year.

“We constantly have fans e-mailing with compliments, complaints and questions about our movies, and this is a way of involving the fans in a new way,” said Thomas Vitale, executive vp programing and original movies. “This is where entertainment is going and just the start of many more things of this nature for Syfy.”

Syfy is teaming with entertainment site IGN on the site; the partnership will last 15 months and launch Friday. The first stage will have fans voting on one of three overall concepts for the movie: a 2010 apocalypse story, a Bermuda Triangle-set creature feature or a Roswell, N.M.-set alien movie.

But the venture raises the question: What if fans create a lousy movie? “When you have a lot of people working on something, good ideas will come out of it,” Vitale said. “We will have something that will be entertaining.”

Venus shown exit door, Federer drives friend frantic

(Reuters) – Venus Williams and her much-hyped wardrobe made an unexpected exit, and Roger Federer had his opponent smashing his racket to pieces in frustration as a windy chill engulfed the French Open on Sunday.

Sports

Second seed Williams must wait another year for her first title here after Russian 19th seed Nadia Petrova showed a steely resolve and a superior ability to cope with the swirling, chilly conditions that dogged Day Eight of the claycourt slam.

The women’s event has been shaping up for another Williams sisters final, but Petrova outclassed Venus, who opted for a more modest version of the black lacy corset that has set Parisian tongues wagging all week.

“It’s my most dramatic French Open,” said Petrova after booking a place in the last eight against fellow Russian Elena Dementieva with the 6-4 6-3 triumph.

Explaining her first defeat by Petrova in five meetings, Williams said her game had malfunctioned in the cold.

“I feel like I had a day where I wanted to hit the ball crosscourt and it went down the line, sometimes it happens,” the 29-year-old said. “Sometimes when it’s too cold it’s hard to feel the racket.”

Earlier, Justine Henin cemented her place in the fourth round after coming through a one-set shootout with another former world number one, Russian 12th seed Maria Sharapova.

The four-time champion trailed 0-2 0-40 in the decider after darkness had halted their third-round match on Saturday at one-set all, but a change of gear from the Belgian saw her to a 6-2 3-6 6-3 win and meant Sharapova is still missing only the French Open title from her grand slam collection.

“That game was so important, because at 3-0 with two breaks, it was really I think difficult to come back. She’s a champion, so as soon as you give her the opportunities she takes them,” a relieved Henin told reporters.

Federer may be one of Stanislas Wawrinka’s closest friends on the tour but it did not stop the defending champion from driving his fellow Swiss mad with frustration as he nonchalantly booked his place in the last eight.

Wawrinka had the audacity to break the Federer serve in the second set and had the upper hand until the man he won Olympic doubles gold with two years ago decided to turn the screw.

CODE VIOLATION

He took the second set to a tiebreak which he won 7-5, prompting Wawrinka to smash his racket into the red clay three times, mangling the frame and strings in the process.

The resulting code violation failed to galvanize him and Federer stormed through the third set to record a 6-3 7-6 6-2 victory in under two hours.

Federer now faces Robin Soderling, the man he beat to complete his career grand slam here last year, after the dangerous Swede destroyed Croatia’s Marin Cilic 6-4 6-4 6-2.

French hopes died when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired injured after losing the first set against Mikhail Youzhny.

Dementieva ended the dream run of qualifier Chanelle Scheepers, the first South African to reach the fourth round for 13 years, in an error-strewn opener on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone reached the quarter-finals for the first time since her maiden appearance in 2001 after a defiant two-set win over Russian 30th seed Maria Kirilenko.

Hopes of an all-Italian last-eight clash were raised when Flavia Pennetta leveled her fourth-round match with third seed Caroline Wozniacki after two tense tiebreaks, but the teenaged Dane showed her class by dashing through the third 6-2 to reach the last eight for the first time in her career here.

Give it up for the latest fashion fad – high heels for men!

Men have invaded women’s wardrobe a little further – as high heels for males is the newest couture craze.

Gender-bending stiletto styles and pointy, rock-star-esque heeled boots are apparently the favourites.

Also, there are “Status shoes,” worn by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, with visible heels of 1 1/4 inch and a hidden 1 ½-inch lift inside the shoe.

According to Times Online, men were seen wearing heels in the audience at the Fashion Week collections of Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens in Paris, Rodarte in New York and Pam Hogg in London.

British designer Gareth Pugh among others has been spotted sporting women’s heels.

Also, American designer Marc Jacobs admitted he has kept women”s heels in his collection.

“If I put heels in a collection I always try them on and walk around the studios in them during the fittings, which take up to 36 hours. It raises a laugh with the team for about five minutes because they’ve seen me do it so many times,” the New York Daily News quoted Jacobs, as saying.

He added: “But that’s not why I do it. I do it because I want to show that I’m not some misogynist designer designing these torturous shoes for women. The heels are there as a choice and if you want to wear them all the time, some of the time or never, it’s your choice.”

Lady Gaga ‘fires her security team’

London, May 21 (ANI): ‘Telephone’ hitmaker Lady Gaga is said to have fired her entire security staff after a fan managed to get on stage in Japan.

She also threw her wardrobe assistant for not locking her dressing room door.

“She went potty. She couldn”t believe they could let these things happen so she fired them on the spot. She goes out of her way to make her shows perfect and expects the same from her people,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“Some thought she would calm down but she put them straight on a plane home,” the source added. (ANI)

Scientist solve brides” wedding dress ”storage dilemma’

London, May 8(ANI): A group of British scientists has come up with a novel idea to ‘re-cycle’ wedding dresses once worn by brides.

Fashion and engineering students at Sheffield Hallam University have developed a wedding dress fashioned out of polyvinyl alcohol, a biodegradable substance that is used in laundry bags and washing detergents, knitted into the fabric.

The polyvinyl bag dissolves in water, and hence may not be the best choice for some, in case it rains on the way to the wedding.

“The students wanted to challenge the notion that a wedding dress should only be used once and aimed to explore modern society”s attitudes towards throwaway fashion,” The Telegraph quoted Jane Blohm, a fashion lecturer, as saying.

“The project is a union between art and technology which explores the possibilities of using alternative materials for our clothing.

“The wedding gown is perhaps one of the most symbolic garments in (a woman”s) wardrobe and represents the challenges of ‘throwaway fashion’.”

She added: “In order to reduce fashion”s impact on the environment, the fashion industry must begin to challenge conventional attitudes and practices.” (ANI)

Kylie Minogue has clothes hanger phobia!

London, May 5 (ANI): Pop diva Kylie Minogue has confessed that she suffers from a fear of clothes hangers.

“The problem is I hate putting things on hangers,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying in an interview with ELLE magazine.

“I have a hanger phobia – I don”t like the way they sound when you put them in the wardrobe,” she added.

While describing her wardrobe, she said: “It”s a room in my home where everything is laid out. It never looks like other people”s wardrobes. I”ve got far too many shoes, but they”re so pretty I don”t like to hide them away.” (ANI)

Pregnant Dannii Minogue launches new clothing range

London, April 28(ANI): Dannii Minogue, who is expecting a child soon, has launched a new range of clothing in collaboration with designer Tabitha Somerset-Webb.

The singer said that pregnancy had “opened her mind” to more creative ideas.

The range tagged Project D, includes a sequinned evening dress from the “luxury” collection.

Apparently, Minogue’s design needed no alteration for her new fuller figure.

“This one”s stretched sequin thankfully so it goes over the bump,” the Telegraph quoted her as telling.

She added: “Being pregnant has completely opened my mind to having to really try different shapes and things I haven”t worn before.

“You”ve got to dress cleverly around it but I”ve managed to get into my dresses without any alterations.”

Project D includes day dresses, cocktail chic and red-carpet-ready dresses.

Minogue added: “Fashion has been a passion of mine since I can remember and I hope that every woman who slips on a Project D dress will feel glamorous yet effortless.

“Our philosophy is to make feeling confident with your wardrobe easy. We will do the hard work and get the details on the dresses right, so all you have to do is enjoy them.

“To me a dress design never comes to life till it is slipped on – who knows what adventures the dresses in this collection will get up to?”

The clothing range will hit stores in June. (ANI)

Steven Seagal made actresses undress in his trailer, claims co-star

New York, April 26 (ANI): A co-star of actor Steven Seagal has claimed that he asked her to undress in his trailer during the filming of his 1991 movie “Out for Justice”.

The actress, who asked not to be named, said Seagal, 58, would page young actresses on his movies to come to his hotel room at night, and that he made an obscene sexual suggestion to her in a late-night phone call.

“Seagal”s type was young, exotic-looking girls. He asked me and three other actresses to parade through his trailer, then asked me to stay,” the New York Post quoted her as saying.

“The wardrobe girl gave me a tacky corset and a tiny skirt and told me, ”He wants you to try this on,” and . . . led me into the bedroom. As soon as I undressed, he tried to come in.

“I didn”t have a top on, so I pushed the door closed and screamed. When I came out, my boobs were hanging out. I was offered a contract.

“At least two other actresses on the set had beepers. He would beep them to go to his hotel room at night.

“His then-wife Kelly LeBrock was suspicious and showed up on set. She had just given birth to their son. I felt so bad for her.

“One night, he called me at home . . . he said, ”Do you want to come to my hotel room?” I said, ”I don”t feel comfortable with that.”

“He asked if I wanted to perform a sex act on him. I said, ”I have a boyfriend and you are married.” Days later I was released — technically, fired,” she revealed.

The actor is denying the new allegations, and his lawyer, Marty Singer, said there was no truth in the claims.

“This is totally false. It”s ridiculous that she is coming forward 20 years later . . . It is interesting this person doesn”t give her name to give her claims legitimacy,” he said.

“I suspect she is a resentful one-time actress who has not become a major star,” Singer stated.

Seagal”s publicist, Ken Sunshine, added: “They are coming out of the woodwork, but this woodwork isn”t usually 20 years old.” (ANI)

Scarlett Johansson’s sexy ‘Black Widow’ dress to leave tongues hanging!

Washington, April 24(ANI): Actor Samuel L. Jackson has said Scarlett Johansson will leave tongues hanging when fans watch her wearing a tight superhero outfit in ‘Iron Man 2’.

The hottie plays the role of Black Widow, for which she has worn a skin-hugging bodysuit, in the film.

“Scarlett has this fantastic following anyway, but I think Black Widow”s gonna bring, like, tongues hanging, drooling toward her. Plus, she”s kicking so much ass.” Fox News quoted her co-star Jackson, as saying.

Also, Johansson has admitted the dress is sexy.

She told ET: “I don”t think I”ve ever worn anything like it before. I mean, it”s a unitard … a sexy unitard.”

Robert Downey Jr, who stars as Iron Man in the super hero flick, added: “I saw the costume when we were doing wardrobe tests, and I was just like, ”Oh my god, this is just not fair.”” (ANI)

Real Simple Offers Essential Organizing Tips to Ready Your Home for Spring

REAL SIMPLE SOLUTIONS PRODUCTS DESIGNED TO SOLVE REAL-LIFE PROBLEMS THAT WOMEN
FACE EVERY DAY
NEW YORK, March 1 /PRNewswire/ — Just in time for your yearly spring
cleaning, Real Simple designed Real SimpleSolutions, products that allow
anybody to organize their closet in just a few simple steps. Did you ever
consider painting your closet interior a bright color or lining the shelves
with pretty wrapping paper? If you make your closet prettier and brighter by
adding stick-on lights, you’ll be more likely to keep it clean and
clutter-free. Real Simple offers five easy tips to put you on the path to a
beautiful and functional closet.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20100301/NYFNSJ02)

Edit your wardrobe. Take a look at your clothes and sort them into three
categories: what you wear most; least; or never. Donate the clothing you
haven’t worn in one year or more, as well as anything that no longer fits. If
an item is damaged beyond repair, it’s time to toss it out. When you wear
something, return it to the closet with the hanger facing out; at the end of
the year, you’ll know which items you’ve never worn (now donate them!)

Choose the right hanger. Your closet will look neater if you use just one
type of hanger. In fact, you can actually double your closet space with
slimline hangers that are flocked to keep clothing from slipping. Indents
hold straps in place and accessory bars securely hold belts, scarves, or ties.
Plus, a built-in hook allows the hangers to cascade, saving you even more
space. Choose from five colors – black, blue, stone, brown, and sage.

Arrange folded items. When folding clothing you’ll store on shelves, place
heavier items at the bottom of the pile. Arrange garments by function (workout
tops together, business tops together, etc.) and color (white to nude to
bright colors to black). If your closet doesn’t have shelves, consider using
part of your clothing rod for a Sweater Organizer and use Real Simple
SolutionsStorage Bins that fit inside the shelves. If you have a taller
closet, hang it lengthwise; if it’s wider, use the side hinge to flip up the
bottom shelves so they lay side-by-side. The four stretchy side pockets can
store belts, scarves, purses, or other small accessories. Creative uses can
include: put in the mudroom and assign one section to each family member;
organize your child’s outfits for each day of the week; or hang it in the
pantry and stock with entertaining supplies such as napkins, place mats, and
plastic dinnerware.

Put your purses away. A Hanging Purse Organizer is multi-functional – not
only does it allow you to store your bags of multiple sizes in a safe,
space-saving manner – you can also fill the shelves with rolled beach or bath
towels or stock the organizer with linens and hang it in a guest room closet.
If you have children, you can organize their toys and equipment – since the
organizer uses elastic, it’s safe for little fingers.

Pick a system for storing shoes. Stow shoes you don’t wear frequently in
labeled plastic boxes on a high shelf, in another closet, or under your bed.
For your everyday shoes, use a sturdy shoe and boot organizer for easy access.
The Real Simple SolutionsShoe and Boot Organizer can hold 18 pairs of shoes
in the pockets, plus two pairs of boots. There are also eight stretchy side
pockets to store accessories like scarves, belts, bags, or flip-flops.

Real Simple Solutions products are available exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond
stores nationwide and online at www.bedbathandbeyond.com.

Emma Watson used gap year to design teen summer wear for People Tree

London, Sep 18 (ANI): Harry Potter star Emma Watson has revealed that she spent her gap year designing a ‘complete teenage summer wardrobe’ for the fair trade fashion brand People Tree.

Watson, 19, who has just enrolled at Brown University in the US, acted as a creative advisor for the ethical fashion collection, which will reach shops in February.

“I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” Sky News quoted her as saying.

“I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there.

“It has been the most incredible gap year project,” she added.

Among items that the teen actress has had a hand in designing were knitwear, cotton t-shirts, jersey dresses, and poplin shorts.

Her range also includes some more bizarre items, including “bohemian hand embroidered bed throws, recycled sweetie wrapper jewellery, banana fibre slouchy beanies and head scarves.”

They will be sold by People Tree, a company which aims at supporting developing countries and promoting environmental projects. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole to shell out over £100k on ‘X-Factor’ wardrobe

Washington, August 30 (ANI): Cheryl Cole is reportedly set to shell out over 100,000 pounds on her wardrobe as she judges UK TV talent show ‘X-Factor’.

The singer was said to have already drawn a 59,000-pound bill on her clothes for the show and was allegedly looking to spend another 45,000 pounds on the outfits.

“Cheryl definitely wants to ditch her glamorous flamboyant dresses for more provoking outfits which include ripped jeans, sleeveless tops and studded boots,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

The Girls Aloud star may sport the works of high-profile designers such as Pucci and Matthew Williamson when the live series begins in October.

A source added: “Cheryl spends a lot of money looking her best, but it’s not about vanity, it’s about achieving as much as she can. She sees it as an investment – something she needs to perfect to do well in her career.”

The 26-year-old was claimed to be splashing over 100,000-pound-a-year on her figure and looks.

She purportedly hires a personal stylist for 30,000 pounds and splashes 9,000-pound-a-year on her hair, 12,000-pound on a private dietician, 14,000-pounds on personal training sessions, 5,000-pounds on treatments and 36,000-pounds on a fat-burning machine. (ANI)

Monroe’s ‘curve-enhancing 1950s-style Wonderbra’ up for grabs

London, July 16 (ANI): Marilyn Monroe’s perfect hourglass figure made her a worldwide sensation but her famous curves were not all natural – they were enhanced by a 1950s version of a Wonderbra, which enhanced her cleavage, boosted her cup size and added more than an inch to her bust measurement.

And now, the bra that belonged to the Hollywood siren is going up for auction.

The brassiere was able to work its magic because it had under-wiring and four cups, an inner pair to hold her breasts and an outer pair an inch in front of the real ones to enhance her bust, reports The Times.

It is believed that the bra, or one very similar, was worn in The Seven Year Itch, when Monroe appeared in a white halterneck dress. The straps would have been concealed beneath the halter.

The cream and ivory-coloured bra was part of the wardrobe of Monroe’s clothes sold in Hollywood in 2005. It is being auctioned in London on Saturday, when it is expected to fetch around 2,000 pounds.

Katie Halford, a designer for the vintage lingerie firm What Katie Did, said the style was known as a “fling” bra, and added: “They were a bit naughty. They were worn by strippers and burlesque artists in the 1940s and 1950s. Marilyn Monroe didn’t like wearing underwear and, if she could get away with it, she wouldn’t wear any.

“It would have given her breasts extra support and uplift and left her nipples exposed.

“It would have given the impression that she had very good and perfectly positioned breasts, while making it appear she wasn’t wearing a bra at all, and because it is a bit padded, it would have made her breasts look a bit bigger.” (ANI)

Michael Gambon had special pocket sewn into his Harry Potter costume for ciggies

London, July 12 (ANI): Actor Michael Gambon has revealed that he had a special pocket sewn into his Harry Potter costume so that he could carry his cigarettes while shooting for the film.

The actor, who plays the role of Albus Dumbledore, was so tired of having to dash off the set for a quick smoke in between takes that he got a special pocket to carry cigarettes.

“I got the wardrobe to put a little pocket inside for them,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

Director David Yates also admitted: “Michael cleverly conceals a packet of fags below the lower part of the gown.”

Gambon said that he would miss wearing the costume once the wizard series ends.

He added: “It is made of silk, its very fine and so easy to wear. I will miss that.”

Michael was given to play the role after Richard Harris’ death who earlier performed the part. (ANI)

Daniel Radcliffe ‘never wants to grow up’

London, July 11 (ANI): Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says that he has had such a wonderful childhood that he never wants to grow up.

The actor, who will turn 20 this month, said so while talking to David Letterman on his chat show.

“I’ve really enjoyed my teenage years,” the Daily Star quoted him as having told the US chat show host.

Radcliffe also appeared on Alexa Chung’s new chat show, later.

Meanwhile, Emma Watson laughed off her wardrobe malfunction at Letterman’s show.

She was accidentally snapped in her underwear, after a gust of wind lifted her dress during the rain soaked premiere of ‘Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince’. (ANI)

Emma Watson laughs off wardrobe malfunction

London, July 10 (ANI): Emma Watson has said that she is glad she had her knickers on during the premiere of new Harry Porter film in London, where she suffered wardrobe malfunction.

The actress, who accidentally flashed her lower undergarment when gust of wind lifted her dress on the rainy day, spoke to US chat show host David Letterman about the incident.

“At least I’m wearing underwear!” she quipped, making the audience roar with laughter, the Daily Star reports.

However, the actress was quick to dismiss the occurrence as not something harmful to her image.

She said: “This was a small wardrobe malfunction – that happens.”

The19-year-old admitted that she is still in the process of learning things in Hollywood.

She added: “I’m still learning, I’m still learning!” (ANI)

Women spend about one year of their lives deciding what to wear

London, July 9 (ANI): A new poll’s findings suggest that women spend almost one year of their lives deciding what to wear.

The poll involving 2,491 women suggests that choosing outfits for work, nights out, dinner parties, holidays, gym, and other activities means the average woman will spend 287 days rifling through their wardrobe.

The researchers behind the study say that the biggest chunk of that time is used up picking a killer ensemble for Friday or Saturday nights out, or selecting the right clothes for a holiday. ccording to them, women, on average, spend 16 minutes every weekday morning deciding what to wear, and around 14 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

“What you wear has a direct impact on how you feel about yourself and it is important a woman feels exceptional in her outfit. Whatever the occasion your clothes portray an image and we understand this is fundamentally important to women,” the Telegraph quoted a spokesman for clothes giant Matalan, which compiled the results, as saying.

The study was based on an adult lifetime from the age of 16 to 60.

It showed that most women would spend around 20 minutes deciding what to wear before hitting the town on a weekend night.

The researchers say that week nights out can take up to 20 minutes a time too.

They further say that deciding on what clothes to take on holiday takes about 52 minutes each time.

On holiday, women generally take 10 minutes in the morning trying to find an acceptable outfit, with another 10 minutes spent picking evening clothes.

Besides, dinner parties, Christmas parties, and black tie events at around 36 minutes a time six times a year – adds up to three and a half days.

The study also found, on average, women will try on two outfits each morning before coming to a final decision, and that one in two women spend 15 minutes the night before work working out what to wear. (ANI)
