Film on Beatles manager Brian Epstein in the pipeline

London, Aug 28 (ANI): A film based on the life of Beatles manager Brian Epstein is reportedly set to be made.

According to Variety magazine, A Life in the Day, written by Tony Gottelson, will be produced by US filmmaker David Permut, who also revealed the film, would centre on the early days of the Beatles.

Epstein, who sold records at his father’s shop, Nems, in Liverpool, became the band’s manager after hearing them play at the city’s Cavern Club.

“Everybody turned down the band, even though Brian promised they would become bigger than Elvis, and he finally got George Martin at EMI to change his mind and give them an audition,” said a BBC report.

Epstein also managed other Liverpool stars in the 1960s including Cilla Black and Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Brian Epstein died in 1967, aged 32, from a sleeping pill overdose. (ANI)

Hollywood’s leading ladies battle for ‘Barbarella’ role in remake

Washington, Aug 26 (ANI): It has been revealed that the leading ladies of Hollywood are vying to land the role of Barbarella, who had been made famous by Jane Fonda in the 1960s.

Aussie film director Robert Luketic will be directing the flick, and producer Dino DeLaurentiis has confirmed that the film is his number one priority.

Lorenze De Maio, the boss of De Laurentiis’ production company, reveals that stars like Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood are vying to play the sexually adventurous space traveller.

“Every young actress in town is interested in playing that Barbarella part,” Variety magazine quoted De Maio as saying. (ANI)

James McAvoy to star in “I’m With Cancer”

Washington, Aug 18 (ANI): Scottish actor James McAvoy has signed on to star in Mandate Pictures’ comedic adaptation of the Will Reiser novel “I’m With Cancer”.

Nicole Holofcener will direct the flick, and Seth Rogen, who is also producing, will co-star, reports Variety magazine.

McAvoy, 30, will play the part of a 25-year-old who learns that he has cancer and successfully battles the disease over several years.

The story is based on the real life experiences of screenwriter Reiser, who won his own fight with cancer in his mid-20s, and he has also penned the script for the movie Holofcener will begin filming in January.

Rogen is producing the “Cancer” adaptation with his writing partner Evan Goldberg and former “Daily Show” exec producer Ben Karlin.

Reiser will also serve as executive producer on the movie along with Mandate prexy Nathan Kahane. Mandate’s Tendo Nagenda will co-produce. (ANI)

Miley Cyrus to star in fairy tale

Washington, July 15 (ANI): ‘Hanna Montana’ star Miley Cyrus is set to turn into a fairy in the big screen adaptation of young adult novel “Wings”.

The story of the film revolves around Laurel, a 15-year-old who grows up sheltered and home-schooled in a small town.

Adjusting to a big high school is difficult, and her suspicion that she’s not like the other kids, becomes a reality when she sprouts a pair of wings and learns that she’s a fairy, reports Variety magazine.

The novel written by Aprilynne Pike, published in May, is the first of a planned four-book series.

Cyrus is currently shooting “The Last Song”, a Julie Anne Robinson-directed adaptation of the novel that Nicholas Sparks wrote as a vehicle for Cyrus. (ANI)

Third ‘Bridget Jones’ flick in the making

Washington, July 15 (ANI): An untitled third ‘Bridget Jones’ movie is in the making, Working Title has confirmed.

The franchise will once again be starring Renee Zellweger.

The project will see the actress reprise her title role as a British publishing executive trying to make sense of life and love.

The production for the third instalment of the series is expected to begin not before the end of next year, reports Variety magazine.

Working Title co-toppers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are yet to rope in a writer or director for the film that will likely be based on the weekly columns of author Helen Fielding. (ANI)

‘Harry Potter’ director David Yates says finale to be best yet

New Delhi, July 14(ANI): Harry Potter director David Yates has said that the finale of the series adapted from J.K. Rowling’s novels, which is currently being shot, will be the best of the lot.

The finale “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be split into two movies.

Part one should be out in late 2010 while part two is planned for release in 2011, the China Daily reports.

David said: “People are being very kind about what they’re seeing in ‘Half-Blood Prince’ and I just think you haven’t seen anything yet.

“(Part one) is like a road movie, refugees being chased by all these people who want to kill them. It’s quite intense.

“Then the final film is like this big opera, big epic, it’s got more set pieces than any of the others.”

“It’s fights and dragons and battles. It’s a real rollercoaster, but with a really oddly uplifting end.”

Yates took up the mantle of the helmer from the fifth part of the series.

Meanwhile, the new wizard flick ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ is expected to become “one of the year’s two or three top-earning film,” according to Variety magazine. (ANI)

Ryan Reynolds set to play ‘Green Lantern’

Washington, July 11 (ANI): Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds has won the coveted role of “Green Lantern”.

The Warner Bros. live-action film, based on the DC Comics hero, will be directed by Martin Campbell.

Reynolds, 32, who had who vied for the superhero role along with Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto, was chosen by Warners and Campbell.

The studio is still working on the picture’s budget, but production is expected to begin in January, reports Variety magazine.

Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, and he will also be producing with Donald DeLine.

Reynolds’ representatives at UTA are working out his deal. (ANI)

Tobey Maguire to star in indie black comedy ‘Details’

Washington, July 8 (ANI): Tobey Maguire is set to star in an indie black comedy entitled “The Details”, which is to be helmed by director Jacob Estes.

The Spider-Man actor will share the screen with Elizabeth Banks in the project that tells the story of a struggling married couple, who are further plagued with problems, thanks to ravenous raccoons burrowing under the sod in their back yard.

“Maguire’s character is an everyman in the sense that he is composed of a morally ambiguous core. He has good intentions, but he makes a lot of self-destructive mistakes,” Variety magazine quoted Estes as saying.

Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, and Anna Friel have also been roped in for the movie, the filming for which is due to begin in August in Seattle.

Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and Hagai Shaham are producing the project, while Mickey Liddell plays the executive producer. (ANI)

Hugh Jackman, Miley Cyrus to team up for musical movie

Melbourne, June 27 (ANI): Hugh Jackman and Miley Cyrus may play alongside each other in the new movie-musical Personal Security.

The team up news came after the teenaged singer was seen with the X-Men star having lunch with movie executives at a LA hotspot, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Jackman is expected to play a New York cop protecting Cyrus- a spoiled teen heiress- from possible kidnapping, Variety magazine reports.

Meanwhile, Cyrus has landed herself in picture controversy after photos showing her in a provocative pose, were posted by her latest movie producer on Twitter. (ANI)

Evan Rachel Wood to star in Broadway’s “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark”

Washington, June 27 (ANI): Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming will be performing in the new Broadway musical “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” it has been confirmed.

Both the stars, who were anticipated to be cast in the show for sometime now, finally signed up earlier this week, Variety magazine reports.

The Wrestler actress will play Spidey’s paramour Mary Jane Watson, while Cumming will do the role of the villain Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin.

Julie Taymor, who directed the movie-musical “Across the Universe,” that starred Wood, will helm the show.

Alan has also worked with him for his pics “Titus” and “The Tempest.”

However, the date for opening of the technically complicated tuner has been postponed.

Before it was expected to open on Feb 18, now, the musical will begin just the previews from Feb. 25. (ANI)

Ryan Reynolds to star in Rodrigo Cortes’ ‘Buried’

Washington, Jun 25 (ANI): Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds is all set to star in director Rodrigo Cortes’ new flick ‘Buried’.

Reynolds, 32, will be playing the part of a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq, and who wakes buried in a coffin in the desert, armed only with a cell phone, a candle and a knife, reports Variety magazine.

The script is by Chris Sparling, and production for the movie will begin this month in Barcelona.

Peter Safran will produce through his Safran Co. banner with Adrian Guerra of Spain-based Versus Entertainment, which is financing the film.

The picture will shoot entirely in Spain, which is home to Cortes, best known for directing “The Contestant”. (ANI)

Cruise may join Diaz in comedy film ‘Wichita’

Washington, May 28 (ANI): Tom Cruise is reportedly set to share the frame with Cameron Diaz in 20th Century Fox action comedy film Wichita.

The Hollywood heartthrob, who has previously paired with the stunning blonde in Vanilla Sky, will allegedly portray a secret agent who hops in and out of the life of a single woman.

According to sources, the pair has agreed to the script for the project to be helmed by James Mangold, reports Variety magazine.

The two were said to be in talks over advanced negotiations though not official date has been set for the movie.

Recent drafts of the script has purportedly been in the hands of Scott Frank, with Mangold presently tuning the script with Laeta Kalogridis. (ANI)

Washington, May 27 (ANI): Al Pacino is set to play Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a former pathologist most noted for publicly championing a terminal patient’s right to die, in an HBO biopic.

The acting legend will star in the Barry Levinson project, which concentrates on Kevorkian’s construction of his infamous “Mercy Machine” and his first assisted suicide in the early 1990s.

Kevorkian, who claimed to have assisted at least 130 patients to meet their end and famously said that “dying is not a crime”, served eight years of a 10-to-25-year prison sentence for second-degree murder, reports Variety magazine.

The 80-year-old, who was later released on parole in 2007 due to good behaviour, also made an unsuccessful bid for Congress in Michigan.

Adam Mazer has inked the script for the production based on the medic, dubbed Dr. Death by the media, while Levinson, Steve Lee Jones, Lydia Dean Pilcher and Glenn Rigberg will play will executive producers. (ANI)

Rob Pattinson to act in Bel Ami

Washington, May 20 (ANI): Hollywood actor Rob Pattinson is all set to star in an adapation of Guy de Maupassant’s short story ‘Bel Ami’.

Scripted by Jenny Lumet, the flick will be directed by Allen Couter.

Though the female lead of the flick has not been finalized as yet, Rob has revealed that the female character would be well read.

“The girl needs to be literally inspirational,” Variety magazine quoted Rob as saying.

Rob was also full of praise for scriptwriter Lumet, as he did not hesitate in calling her a “genius”. (ANI)

Milla Jovovich to star alongside Robert De Niro in ‘Stone’

Washington, May 18 (ANI): Milla Jovovich will share the screen alongside Robert De Niro and Edward Norton in the forthcoming film ‘Stone’.

The stunning actress will be featured as the wife of a convicted arsonist in the psychological thriller, directed by John Curran.

Newly formed Mimran Schur Pictures are producing the project, which is being sold at the Cannes Film Festival by Nu Image, reports Variety magazine.

Holly Wiersma, Jordan Schur and David Mimran are playing producers for the movie, the filming of which begins in Michigan this month. (ANI)

America Ferrera to act in an untitled family wedding project

Washington, May18 (ANI): Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera will team up with Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia for Fox Searchlight’s untitled family wedding project.

The family wedding tale will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa.

The story is based on the clash-of-cultures comedy, which centres on two overbearing fathers portrayed by Whitaker, Mencia, who must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son and daughter (Ferrera) in less than two weeks.

Filming will begin next month in Los Angeles, reports Variety magazine.

Mickey Rourke to act in remake of ‘Mona Lisa’

He will portray an ex-con who takes a job as a chauffeur for a high-class escort, reports Variety magazine.

Hollywood actress Eva Green is in talks to act opposite him.

The 1980′s flick, directed by Neil Jordan, featured Bob Hoskins and Cathy Tyson in the lead role.

Lindsay Lohan to act in comedy ‘The Other Side’

Washington, May 14 (ANI): Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan is gearing up to act in the forthcoming comedy ‘The Other Side’, alongside Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews, and Alanis Morissette.

The flick is based on graduation student, who must spend the summer working at a scientific institute on a remote island, where she discovers an eccentric community of characters who are hiding a secret about a tragedy that took place many years before.

The filming is set to begin October at an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

This will be Lindsay’s first role since ‘I Know Who Killed Me’ in 2007, when her career mired over assertions of unprofessional behaviour.

However, the director of ‘The Other Side’ David Michaels has revealed that Lindsay is bent upon changing people’s perceptions about her, and is currently working very hard.

“Lindsay’s very aware of people’s perceptions of her,” Variety magazine quoted him as saying.

“She’s really committed to doing what she has to in order to change that,” the director added.

‘The Other Side’ is produced by Baudelaire, Film Star Pictures and Marston, with Jory Weitz. (ANI)

Antonio Banderas to star as detective in The Big Bang

Washington, May 11 (ANI): Antonio Banderas is all set to star in the Tony Krantz-directed neo-noir detective story, ‘The Big Bang’.

Richard Rionda Del Castro, Krantz and Erik Jendresen will produce the film, which is based on a script by Jendresen, who also penned ‘Band of Brothers’.

The production of ‘The Big Bang’ will start in Spokane, Washington, in September, reports Variety magazine.

In the film, Banderas would be seen playing an L.A. private detective who’s hired to find a missing stripper.

The track leads to the New Mexico desert, where he finds a trail of bodies and contends with a brutal Russian boxer, three LAPD detectives and an aging billionaire looking to perfect the nuclear physics equivalent of the Big Bang.

The film’s executive producers will be Patricia Eberle, Richard Salvatore, and Ross Dinerstein.

And Rionda Del Castro’s Hannibal Pictures is financing and handling foreign sales at Cannes.

U.S. representation is being handled by WMA and Endeavor.

The project would be the first theatrical feature for Krantz, one of the few ex-agents to make that leap. (ANI)
