M&S model Lenoir ”attempted suicide after footballer Makelele dashed her reconciliation hopes’

London, May 15 (ANI): Marks & Spencers model Noemie Lenoir attempted suicide because footballer Claude Makelele told her that their relationship was over, it has emerged.

The beauty was found unconscious in the woods outside the French soccer star’s Paris home following drugs binge.

Lenoir had cocktail of dugs and alcohol after Makelele ended her hope of reconciliation saying, they had no future together.

The former couple, who have a five-year-old son, Kelyan, together, had parted ways last year.

Lenoir had been dating Swiss millionaire Carl Hirschmann, but pals suggest she could never really get over Makelele, 37.

“Claude and Noemie’s relationship is known in France as une histoire d’amour – a love story and a sad one. To us they are like the Beckhams, huge stars,” the Mirror quoted a pal of Makelele, as saying.

The friend added: “Noemi is one of the most beautiful women in France. Claude is the love of her life. She has dated other men, but none compare to him – he’s the father of their child, after all.

“He has been seeing other women, she’s known this, but there is one in particular he is very keen on and Noemie is devastated.

“She has always said she wanted to marry him. But they get back together, split, then get back together again.

“Now he has this new woman he has told her in no uncertain terms it’s over. She wanted to make a point with Claude that she is still in love with him, and that’s why she went to his house to attempt suicide.”

Also, a close friend added: “Noemie has been spiralling into depression in recent months – she has been having a crisis about turning 30, not being married and she has a fear that she’ll always be alone. When she woke up on Sunday she was terribly depressed and carried on drinking. She decided her only option was to kill herself.”

Meanwhile, Swiss millionaire Hirschmann, who is presently accused in a sex and extortion scandal in Zurich, has reportedly dumped her too. (ANI)

US to India: Keeping close watch on weapons supplied to Pakistan

New Delhi, Apr.19 (ANI): The United States has assured India that it is keeping a close watch on the weapons supplied to Pakistan and, will investigate if there is any ”misuse” of the weapons tramsferred to Islambad.

Addressing reporters in New Delhi, US Ambassador to India, Timothy Roemer, said:”There are allegations of misuse of weapons given to Pakistan for other purposes. We will investigate it, Congress will take the issue seriously.”

The American assurance came just days after Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh met US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, where he reportedly expressed concern over the misuse of American weapons by Pakistan.

In the next few months, the United States will be delivering to Pakistan the first lot of hi-tech
eighteen F 16”s, 6C/D Block 50/52 combat aircraft, which is being viewed with worry in New Delhi.

Apart from the F-16s, which are worth 1.43 billion dollars, Washington is also forking out 477
million dollars for almost 60 mid-life update kits for its older fleet of F-16s A/B combat aircraft and financing part of the 115 M-109 self-propelled howitzers.

The US has already given 5,250 TOW anti-armour missiles to Pakistan.

Roemer said: “We cannot hyphenate the India-America relationship to AFPAK and Pakistan. Pakistan is doing something in dealing with the threat of Taliban and, we have told them in no uncertain terms that they need to continue to do more.”

On India”s role in Afghanistan, Roemer said: “India”s role in Afghanistan is very critical. President Obama has personally said this to Prime Minister Singh”.

“India”s role has been a great success, but we also have to look for new roles for India in Afghanistan and, when I go to Afghanistan, I will discuss it with the Indian Ambassador (Jayant Prasad) whether it is education or civil services, we are grateful for it,” he added.

Roemer also told reporters that providing access to David Headley, one of the American scouts used by the Lashkar-e-Toiba to locate places that could be attacked, is a top priority for the United States. (ANI)

Jail accused of neglecting Indigenous inmates

Racial tensions are running high in Queensland after the death in custody of an Aboriginal man.

Sheldon Currie, an 18-year-old remand prisoner, died last month and this week there have been claims he was denied adequate medical attention at a privately run Brisbane jail.

But Queensland’s Corrective Services says there was medical intervention: that he was fully assessed and treated on three consecutive days.

Indigenous community members are calling for a full inquiry into the teenager’s death.

They say they have more examples of medical neglect and racial hatred within Queensland’s prisons.

Prison chaplain Reverend Alex Gator is among those suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

She says it is normal practice for her to be called to seriously ill inmates but no-one called her to Sheldon Currie’s hospital bed.

Then after the 18-year-old died, the reverend says a prison official told her not to cause trouble when she went to the jail to conduct a memorial service.

“I did not like his tone of voice, and in no uncertain terms he more or less said to me not to stir up the boys,” she said.

“I said, ‘I’m here to provide spiritual support to people … they are grieving, these young boys. They have lost a brother.’”

Reverend Gator says another prison worker told her he was quitting after Sheldon Currie’s death.

“He said ‘I’m leaving, I’ve had enough. I’m not happy at what had happened here,’” she said.

Racial hatred

Reverend Gator has been a prison chaplain for 19 years and she says Indigenous inmates are regularly treated badly. She says she believes it is a matter of racial hatred.

“There was a young Murri boy up at Borallen. He was sick this young boy, doubled up in pain,” she said.

“He was told there was nothing wrong with him.”

“They finally took him to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The specialists said, ‘if you’d waited another day, you would have died.’ He had appendicitis and it would have burst.

“There’s another mate there at the Wolston Correctional Centre. He’s got serious health problems; he’s in a wheelchair. He fell out of his wheelchair and he was on the floor unconscious.

“He don’t know how long he was unconscious, and what he said to me was ‘Aunty Alex, they do not care, they don’t give a damn.’”

Panadol cure-all

Debbie Kilroy from the prisoner advocacy group Sisters Inside agrees the medical care given to Indigenous inmates is woeful and unacceptable.

“Medical treatment is, as women would inform me, ad hoc,” she said.

“The answer to every treatment – every ailment – is a Panadol.

“So it doesn’t matter what your illness is, you will get a Panadol. If you’ve had your arm cut off in the industry you’ll get a Panadol.”

Ms Kilroy says the only way prisoners will get adequate care is if they are treated outside the jails.

Saturday AM has not been able to get a response to the claims about inadequate medical care in Queensland prisons.

Corrective Services says Queensland Health is in charge of the medical services.

Queensland Health says the Arthur Gorrie facility where Sheldon Currie was imprisoned is privately run, and the department declined to comment on broader issues.

Jordan ‘vows not to speak to Peter Andre’

London, August 29 (ANI): Jordan, a.k.a. Katie Price, has reportedly said she wants no talking terms with estranged husband Peter Andre.

The glamour girl allegedly took the pledge after receiving a text message from her former lover, who allegedly slammed her party girl lifestyle.

The warring duo, who have been locked in a bitted battle of words since they parted ways in May, had until then purportedly kept contact only through lawyers and assistants.

Andre was said to have blasted Jordan, with whom he shares three kids, for “cavorting” with new cage fighter lover Alex Reid, who recently starred in a violent hardcore porn film.

“Katie decided enough was enough and told Peter in no uncertain terms that she does not want to talk to him ever again,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

“She is still hurting after the split despite trying to put a brave face on things. She feels any contact with Pete really sets her back emotionally and told him so.

“It is really sad but she thinks that severing all contact is the way forward,” the source added.

Andre, on the other side, apparently told pals “the feeling is mutual” regarding the minimal contact.

A friend said: “Pete’s priority is the kids and he appreciates there will undoubtedly be some contact between the two of them because of them.

“But he feels that it’s best for both of them that they speak as little as possible – especially for the time being – as everything is still so raw.

“You can’t blame Peter for texting Katie to express his unhappiness with Alex being pictured with the kids.

“He is only human and it really hurt. He doesn’t blame Katie for her response. In fact, he thinks it is good for both of them.” (ANI)

Governor Sanford’s wife warned him not to travel to Argentina

Columbia, June 27 (ANI): Jenny Sanford, the wife of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, who has admitted to an extramarital affair, has said she had warned him not to travel to Argentina to visit his mistress.

“He was told in no uncertain terms not to see her,” Jenny said.

According to the Politico, when Mark Sanford informed his wife that he would be leaving the state, Jenny had strictly warned him not to visit the woman in Argentina and said she was shocked to find out that he had.

Following reports of Sanford’s governorship being put into doubt by extended disappearances, the First Lady of South Carolina said Mark’s career is no more of any significance to her.

“His career is not a concern of mine. He’s gonna have to worry about that, and I’m going to worry about my family and the character of my children,” she added.

Earlier, after having been absent from South Carolina for several days, Mark had admitted to an adulterous affair with a woman from Argentina identified as Maria Belen Chapur.

Jenny and her husband have four sons, Marshall, Landon, Bolton and Blake. (ANI)

Becks warns Blues about Carlos Ancelotti’s hairdryer treatment

London, May 19 (ANI): Former England captain David Beckham has told Chelsea’s stars to beware the Carlo Ancelotti hairdryer treatment.

The England midfielder warned that Ancelotti could deliver Alex Ferguson-style blasts at anyone who does not perform.

“Ancelotti has a great presence, a great aura about him – all the top managers have that. He is a low key, private person. But there is another side to him. While I have never had the ‘hairdryer’ type treatment from him I have seen it from him. When he wants to get his point across, believe me, he does it in no uncertain terms!”, The Sun quoted Beckham, as saying.

“He is a manager who commands and demands respect,” Becks added. (ANI)

Nitish says whoever gives Bihar special status will get his support

Patna, may 15 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar on Friday made it clear that whichever coalition gave his state special status could hope for support from him in forming the next government in the Centre.

Speaking at a book release function here, Kumar said that the Prime Minister, Dr.Manmohan Singh, had so far refused to give Bihar a special status.

He also said that the option of who will become the Prime Minister and who will be made Prime Minister is still open.

Earlier, Kumar’s candidature was being spoken of in hushed tones of the probability of a “secular” partner of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) like Nitish Kumar being a Prime Minister nominee with the backing of Third Front partners like Telgu Desam Party (TDP) who are sure to be uncomfortable with signs of the Left coming around to support a Congress-led government.

Kumar has made it absolutely clear that JD(U)’s support cannot be taken for granted and his party will go with “whoever” gives the best bargain.

“We will support the government which gives special status to Bihar. The only condition for our support will be the special category status for Bihar,” said Kumar.

The Third Front has been all along trying to woo the Bihar CM but he has been till now keeping his cards close to his chest.

The Congress’ inclination towards him was made apparent in no uncertain terms by party’s youth icon Rahul Gandhi, who had openly praised Nitish for the development work he is doing in Bihar.

Singh in fact called up Kumar to discuss the relief package given to Bihar after the Kosi floods. (ANI)

Argentine legend De Vicenzo disdains comparisons with Cabrera

Buenos Aires – Argentine golf legend Roberto De Vicenzo showed Monday his disdain of comparisons with compatriot Angel Cabrera, who won his second Major this weekend at the Masters. In 1968, De Vicenzo himself failed to win in Augusta because he made a mistake in writing. He accidentally signed for a four on the 17th hole, when in fact he had taken three, and under the rules he had to accept the higher score. He should have been involved in a play-off with American Bob Goalby, but he ended up being runner-up.

“If people see it that way, then Cabrera is a lot better than me. The only thing I did in my career was to win the British Open in 1967, to sign the card wrong in Augusta in 1968 and to win some 230 tournaments around the world,” he wrote sarcastically Monday in a column in the daily La Nacion.

“I am an Argentine and I always stand up for people from my country. I have never felt jealous, I have no envy and I do not lie,” he stressed.

As to comparisons between Cabrera’s triumph and his own missed chance to win the Masters, De Vicenzo said that the two “are not equivalent situations.”

“That happened 41 years ago and we are now in the face of new generations,” he noted.

De Vicenzo, 86, praised his countryman’s feat in no uncertain terms.

“It was a great day not just for golf, but for Argentine sport as a whole. It is a milestone that would make anyone emotional,” he said.

“‘The Duck’ (Cabrera) went for all or nothing, loyal to his own style. And he got his reward,” De Vicenzo added. “And he was lucky. To win great tournaments you have to have the champion’s luck.”(dpa)

Protesters break into Sri Lankan embassy in Oslo

OSLO, April 12 (Reuters) – Pro-Tamil Tiger demonstrators broke into the Sri Lankan embassy during a protest in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Sunday, smashing windows and furniture, said police, but no one was hurt.

The protest, the first of several by Tamil Tiger supporters around the world in recent weeks to turn violent, followed a march by around 100,000 people in London on Saturday to demand a ceasefire between Sri Lankan forces and the rebels.

“They damaged windows and broke some things inside and then disappeared — we have not caught anyone,” police officer Tor Groettum told Reuters.

Tamils began demonstrating in Oslo last week to pressure Norway, one of four nations heading Sri Lanka’s peace process, to use its influence to stop the violence in the country.

“We condemn this attack in no uncertain terms,” Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona told Reuters, adding Colombo expected Norwegian authorities to find and prosecute the culprits.

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday ordered the military not to attack the Tamil Tigers during a two-day holiday to let thousands of civilians escape a no-fire zone where they are being held by the separatists.

Soldiers have encircled remnants of the Tamil Tigers in a 17 square km (6 sq mile) no-fire zone on Sri Lanka’s northeast coast, and are close to crushing them and ending Asia’s longest-running civil war. ‘No drama Obama’ and MMS style similar

London, Apr.2 (ANI): On day two, the three thousand journalists who have come from around the world to cover the G-20 summit are all but acutely aware of the difference in styles of the current US President Barack Obama and his predecessor George W.Bush.

There is no backslapping, chummy chummy shoulder massage, or man-hugs with Obama. He is reserved, but warm. A style that is similar to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is never effusive, however warm his ties with world leaders. Bush and Singh had a warm chemistry, but all the demonstrativeness of warmth came from Bush, not Singh
Obama’s interactions bordered on the awkward. They both began with their customary reservedness but then, their attempt to be humorous at the press conference fell flat. The geekiness that typifies Obama’s style left no room for chumminess with Brown though they were on a first name basis from the word go.

Obama does not share the same degree of warmth towards Britain as the two Bushes, Clinton or even Reagan. The set of DVDs that Obama gifted Brown during the latter’s visit to the White House last month did not go down well here in the local press.

But he seems to have put those vibes to rest and even tried to make amends by gifting an ipod to the Queen. Ta 6GB silver Mini version the ipod, comes loaded with pictures of the Queen’s last visit to the US. Apparently the Queen already owns a a 6GB silver mini version. Fortunately Obama did not wink at the Queen like Bush did nor did he touch the small of her back Australian PM John Howard had in 2007.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave the Queen a limp handshake which is the proper way. Of course, that he does that with other non-royalty VIP’s is another matter!

Singh’s mild manner and quiet confidence is much appreciated in the international community. His speech at Gordon Brown’s banquet yesterday was quite a rap on the knuckles for the rich nations of the world. He basically told them in no uncertain terms…open your markets, set your house in order, tell your banks not to be protectionist, don’t bully international lending bodies to give your guys the money…you cant ignore us anymore, and if you do you won’t get out of this quagmire….you dragged us into this mess and you gotta get us out.

But he isn’t saying it the Sarkozy (French President) way which is like a sulking school boy almost seeming like Navin Patnaik. He isn’t doing it the Angela Merkel (German Chancellor) way either, which is like Jayalalitha on the Cauvery issue. Merkel is so obsessed with nationalist parameters she refuses to see the larger issue…somewhat like the lady from Poes Garden whose my people, my river, shackles her from seeing the whole picture.
Autocratic ways and narcissistic personalities crush consensus building in international meets such as this. And this is a grouping of rich nations. Yet the leaders seem to be putting aside their differences simply because there is just so much at stake here. Their economies are going down the tube and their people are demanding action. ‘Furious’ Cheryl Cole brands Ashley ‘a selfish p***k’

London, Mar 11 (ANI): X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has in anger branded her footie hubby Ashley Cole a “selfish p***k” after he was arrested while out clubbing with his teammates.

Cheryl, 25, is said to be furious with him for breaking his promise not to go partying, and also for embarrassing her after she had made a public stand for him saying he had a “beautiful soul”.

A source said the Girls Aloud member is raging and has already blasted Ashley over the phone for breaking a “no clubbing” rule while she was away.

“She couldn’t believe it was over another woman again and that Ashley had gone back on his word,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

“Cheryl told Ashley in no uncertain terms that he was in the doghouse and they need a serious talk about what happens next.

“She really tried to make the public love and forgive him. She wanted to prove to those who said she was crazy to take him back that they were wrong.

“Now she’s left feeling foolish, and wondering whether he can ever be trusted,” the source added. (ANI)
