Fortescue chief cheers move to negotiate on mine tax

June 24 (Reuters) – Australian iron ore miner Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest on Thursday welcomed overtures by Australia’s new prime minister Julia Gillard to negotiate over a proposed new mining tax.

Forrest, chief executive of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG.AX), has been at the centre of attacks on a tax that he described as a veiled act of nationalisation of Australia’s mining sector by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

“Ms Gillard and her new government have realised that government policy is best effected through open and honest consultations with the Australian people and industry,” Forrest said in a statement. (Reporting by James Regan; Editing by Ed Davies)

London, July 9 (ANI): ‘World’s first supermodel” Twiggy’s 60th birthday is all set to be marked with a public display of pictures narrating the story of her life.

‘Twiggy: A Life in Photographs’ will celebrate the occasion by displaying more than 20 snaps starting September 19 – her birthday at London’s National Portrait Gallery.

“Over my career I’ve had the privilege of working with many great photographers. I’m very excited to see so many of these portraits coming together at the National Portrait Gallery and in my new book,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

“It’s really interesting to see how fashion photography and portraiture have evolved throughout my career. I hope that this display and book will give people the opportunity to see these pictures that have captured definitive moments in my career,” she added.

Twiggy became the first prominent teenage model at 16, and was known for her large eyes, long eyelashes and thin build. (ANI)

Twiggy becomes face of Olay, again after 60 yrs

London, July 2 (ANI): Almost 25 years after her first Olay campaign on TV, Twiggy has once again become the face of the moisturiser brand.

Twiggy, real name Lesley Hornby, who is just three months away from her 60th birthday, fronted adverts for Olay back in 1985.

Modelling since the age of 16, Twiggy has said that she was “delighted” to return to the beauty giant as the face of Olay Definity.

“We were thrilled to welcome Twiggy back to the brand,” The Mirror quoted Sarah Clark, spokeswoman for Olay Definity, as saying.

She added: “She is a true beauty icon who continues to be an inspiration to millions of women across the UK.”

Twiggy was chosen as a judge in 2005 on the reality TV show ‘America’s Next Top Model’. (ANI)

Faith Hill goes incognito in Redbook mag’s May issue

Washington, April 23 (ANI): Country singer Faith Hill has posed as three other iconic blondes for the May issue of Redbook magazine.

The 41-year-old has posed as actress Brigitte Bardot, model Twiggy and actress Grace Kelly, reports Fox News.

On portraying Grace Kelly, Hill said: “Grace is probably the one that I relate to the most in my life and the one that I have most in common with.”

“I have this seemingly high-profile life, like Grace did, and we were both the mother of three children. She epitomizes the all-American girl with a quiet class and inner strength. She was like everybody’s girl-seemingly comfortable and accessible-yet untouchable,” she added.

On portraying Brigitte Bardot: “To be completely candid, I felt least like Brigitte of all three of the women. To me, sexuality is very different from sensuality. And Brigitte possesses this sensual essence that is so powerful. If I could possess that kind of sensuality, I would want to possess it like she does,” Hill said.

On portraying Twiggy: “It was hard for me to look at myself as Twiggy,” admits Hill. “I think she was in her late teens when the original photo was taken. And there’s a very big difference between a teenager and a 41-year old,” Hill said. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole dubbed false eyelashes icon

London, Mar 14 (ANI): British singer Cheryl Cole has been dubbed as the icon for false eyelashes ever since sales figures shot up after she was pictured wearing them.

Cole, 25, inspired millions of teenage girls to wear them, just as pop icons Dusty Springfield and Twiggy did 40 years ago, and supermarket Tesco has revealed that sales have doubled up due to her.

“Cheryl Cole is doing for false eyelashes now what Dusty Springfield did for them in the 60s,” the Sun quoted Tesco’s health and beauty director Mark Tyldesley as saying.

“She’s a modern icon so it’s not surprising so many young women are influenced by her style,” he added.

Other celebs, who sport false lashes, are Duffy, Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry and Penelope Cruz. (ANI)
