HIGHLIGHTS-Infosys executive on demand, Europe crisis

July 13 (Reuters) – Infosys Technologies (INFY.BO) raised its forecast on a revival in outsourcing demand from its mainstay financial clients, but its shares fell as markets worried a weak European economy could curb orders.

India’s No. 2 outsourcer reported a surprise 2.6 percent drop in April-June profit and its sales contribution from Europe fell to about 20 percent from nearly 25 percent a year ago and 23 percent in January-March.

Following are comments from senior company officials after the result.

V. BALAKRISHNAN, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

—————————————-

ON DEMAND ENVIRONMENT:

“There are good times and bad times. Good times because there is a lot of spending happening from all customers. All the large economies are in distress; when the economies are in distress outsourcing increases. That is what we have seen in this quarter also. The bad thing is all the macro economic indicators are very bad so we have to closely watch them.”

ON EUROPE:

“We are not hearing anything from clients till now. We are not seeing any impact on the ground but that is something we have to watch out. If it becomes a larger issue then it could have an impact. Right now, it looks manageable.”

ON PRICING:

“When the economy stabilises, when all the clouds go away probably we will have pricing power.”

S.D. SHIBULAL, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

—————————————

ON DEMAND:

“Overall, we are cautiously optimistic. We see caution all around but mostly in Europe. The U.S. clients have started spending. We are seeing traction in multiple segments.”

ON EUROPE:

“Europe, there are still concerns, local concerns as well as tail effects of the previous recession. Of course, Europe entered the recession late and we believe it will also come out late. “We believe that Europe will lag behind the U.S. for may be another quarter or two.

“Aspirationally, Europe is very important for us. We expect that Europe will be eventually about one-third of business in the long run. At the same time, we expect some challenges in the medium term.”

ON PRICING:

“Our pricing is stable at this point. We are seeing occasional renegotiations actually both upwards and downwards. It’s part of our regular business. We are not seeing any unusual activity.” (Reporting by Bharghavi Nagaraju; Editing by Ranjit Gangadharan)

Rudd approval rating hits new low

A new opinion poll shows voter satisfaction with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s performance has dropped to its lowest level since he became the leader of the federal Labor Party.

The Newspoll in the Australian newspaper shows 48 per cent of voters are satisfied with Mr Rudd’s performance, while 41 per cent are dissatisfied.

It is the first time Mr Rudd’s rating has dipped beneath 50 per cent as prime minister.

Meanwhile, the poll shows the Opposition’s paid parental leave scheme is failing to gain traction with voters.

Forty per cent of respondents favoured the Government’s 18-week paid leave plan, compared to 24 per cent for the Coalition’s proposal for six months’ leave at full pay.

Labor leads the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis by 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

Forty-seven per cent of respondents said they were satisfied with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s performance, down one point from last month’s figures.

Mr Abbott’s dissatisfaction rating was unchanged at 38 per cent.

Financial Services Minister Chris Bowen has defended Mr Rudd and played down the figures.

“He’s said for some time that he expects polls to tighten, we expect this election to be very tough,” he said.

But Opposition frontbencher Peter Dutton says the poll is a rejection of Mr Rudd’s new health and hospital plan.

“The Australian people are starting to question whether Kevin Rudd’s got the ability to deliver in areas like health,” he said.

Now, a gadget that increases penis size by a third

Washington, Mar 6 (ANI): Men who think size does matter have been offered a new hope – a magical gadget that claims to lengthen a man’s willy by a third!

The extender – called Andro-Penis – uses a plastic ring, two rods and a silicon band.

Researchers from San Giovanni Battista Hospital at the University of Turin, Italy, suggest that the treatment could provide a viable alternative to surgery.

The independent clinical study published in the March issue of BJU International found that males who wore a penile extender every day for six months were able to increase the flaccid length of their penis by up to 32 percent and their erectile function by up to 36 percent.

“Twenty-one highly motivated patients, with an average age of 47, were enrolled and 16 completed the 12-month study,” says consultant urologist Dr Paolo Gontero.

“Having undergone psychosexual counselling, to make sure that the treatment would be beneficial, the men were asked to wear the Andro-Penis device for between four and six hours a day for six months. The device comprises a plastic ring, two dynamic rods that produce the traction and a silicon band to hold the penis in place.

“The men were told to increase the traction from 600g in month one to up to 1200g in month six. Follow ups were performed in months one, three, six and 12,” the expert added.

Men who took part in the study wore the device for an average of five hours in the first month, five hours in the third month and four hours in the sixth month.

After the time duration, the volunteers’ flaccid penile length had increased by 32 per cent. Also high satisfaction levels were reported in all the volunteers.

The authors believe that the results are significant.

“Our study showed that the penile extender device produces an effective and durable lengthening of the penis, both in the flaccid and stretched state,” concludes Dr Gontero. (ANI)

Lalu Yadav slams Bihar Govt. for failure in ensuring railway security

Patna, Mar 1 (ANI): Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has severely criticised the early morning Naxal attacks on two railway stations in Bihar which led to the disruption of train services on the Patna-Howrah main line for more than seven hours on Sunday.

He slammed the Nitish Kumar-led NDA Government for its failure to protect railway property from attacks by Maoists.

“The Railways are the lifeline of the country and we cannot protect every inch of the tracks. It is the duty of the state to ensure the safety of lakhs of people who travel by train every day and the Nitish Kumar Government has failed in it,” Lalu said.

Naxals had attacked the Bhalui railway station between Keul and Jamui on the Danapur-Howrah main line in Bihar early this morning.

Another railway station at Ratnapur on the on Keul-Bhagalpur line near the West Bengal border was also set afire by around 100 Naxals.

The blast uprooted the tracks and damaged the overhead traction wires, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway A K Chandra said.
There have been regular incidents of violence in the state, following the 24- hour Bihar-Jharkhand-Orissa-West Bengal strike called by CPI (Maoist) on Saturday.

While a BSNL mobile tower was damaged in Aurangabad district, another mobile tower of a private service provider was damaged in Rohtas district yesterday.

In another incident in Munger, a Maoist group beat up the station master of Ratanpur on Kiul-Bhagalpur section at Saturday midnight and set ablaze a portion of the station building.
The track-changing panel and documents in the cabin of station master Lalit Kumar were gutted in the fire, Railway sources said.(ANI)
