Seema Biswas makes first filmic foray into comedy with ”Cooking with Stella”

Toronto, Mar 19 (ANI): Indian film actress Seema Biswas, who is vastly known for the serious roles she plays in movies, has made her first filmic foray into comedy with ”Cooking with Stella”.

”Cooking with Stella”, which was written by Dilip Mehta and his sister Deepa, was made about a year ago, and it is set in New Delhi, primarily in and around the compound of the Canadian High Commission.

For Biswas, 45, from Assam, the movie is a groundbreaker, as it is the first comedy she has made out of theatre, and speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, she acknowledged that it was a challenge for her.

“So, for me, it was a big responsibility to do it,” the Globe and Mail quoted her as saying during the premiere of ”Cooking with Stella”.

“I didn”t want it to be a shock for them. You know: ”Oh my God, it”s the wrong casting”,” she said.

But there was never any doubt in director/co-screenwriter Dilip Mehta”s mind.

“Seema was my first and my last choice to play the title character,” he said.

“There was no audition. She is so versatile, I just have this implicit faith in her. I mean, I didn”t know if she had the timing you need for comedy — but once we got going, she was way beyond what I ever hoped for,” he stated.

The movie”s story is about Stella Elizabeth Matthews, who”s been the chief cook and major domo at one of the diplomatic residences in the Canadian High Commission for 30 years.

A devout Christian, Stella initially seems the essence of deference and rectitude when a new Canadian couple (Lisa Ray, Don McKellar) and their baby move into the home.

But the viewer quickly realizes she has a cunning side: To pad her modest salary, she discreetly pilfers items and occasionally overcharges while simultaneously running a phone-order “duty-free” business selling detergent, booze, food and the like from the commission pantry.

This profitable arrangement threatens to unravel when the couple – Ray is, in fact, the diplomat, McKellar the stay-at-home husband and chef eager to discover “the real India” by enlisting Stella as his “cooking guru” – decides to hire a seemingly straight-arrow nanny (Shriya Saran) who eventually gets wise to Stella”s subterfuge. Megan Fox tired of fame, sexiness

Washington, Sep 17 (ANI): It seem that Megan Fox is tired of her fame and sexiness, for she doesn’t want to let people know more about herself.

The 23-year-old actress is currently promoting new film ‘Jennifer’s Body’ at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Although the ‘Transformers’ star never complains about being the hottest female star in Hollywood, she does seem a little tired of all the attention she is getting.

Asked whether playing a high-schooler made her nostalgic for her own high school days, Fox dodged the question saying that she’d instead like to “go back to a time where I didn’t have any responsibility.”

In fact, she seemed wary of the exposure she has had recently.

“I feel like I cling to my privacy and I don’t need to expose myself further to people,” Fox News quoted her as saying. (ANI)

Colin Farrell’s bust-up with photog over sis

London, Sep 14 (ANI): Irish actor Colin Farrell reportedly became very furious with a photographer at the premiere of his new movie ‘Triage’ after the latter shooed his sister off the red carpet.

Farrell, 33, was at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on September 12 with his sister and personal assistant Claudine when the incident took place.

The snapper had asked Farrell’s sister to step away from his side so that he can get a clear shot, but the actor became infuriated with the suggestion and confronted the photographer.

“I was just saying, ‘Please can everyone clear the carpet, move on’. He took it personal. He said, ‘Do not shout at my sister like that, do not ever speak to my sister like that ever’,” the Daily Express quoted Joe Alvarez as saying. (ANI)

Pregnancy question annoys Penelope Cruz

Washington, September 12 (ANI): Penelope Cruz recently got annoyed when a reporter asked her if she was pregnant.

The actress was at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her new film ‘Broken Embraces’ when a TV journalist raised the topic.

The beauty replied, “That’s your question?!” and walked away, People magazine reports.

However, she later came forward to dismiss rumors that she is pregnant with boyfriend Javier Bardem’s baby.

She told USA Today: “I start getting some presents from friends saying, ‘Congratulations, you’re pregnant.’ And I say, ‘No, I’m not, so return the presents.’ It’s amazing.” (ANI)

Kate Winslet to narrate docu on autism

Washington, Aug 27 (ANI): Brit actress Kate Winslet is all set to narrate a new documentary about an Icelandic mother trying to come to terms with her son’s autism.

Winslet, 33, was compelled to agree to do the narration for director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson’s ‘The Sunshine Boy’ after she watched footage that he had sent her.

The film chronicles film producer Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir as she struggles to understand her severely autistic son Keli.

“I am delighted and honoured that Kate agreed to do the narration,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“Her contribution plays an instrumental role in increasing awareness for autism, which many claim is the world’s fastest-growing epidemic,” she added.

The flick will feature musical contributions from Icelandic stars Bjork and Sigur Ros. (ANI)

India funds Demi Moore’s “The Joneses”

Nevada (US), Aug.21 (ANI): India has reportedly funded another Hollywood production “The Joneses” starring Golden Globe nominated Demi Moore (Ghost).

India based Vistaar Religare Film Fund has reportedly invested in this Derrick Borte (The End of the Bar) directed film which will premier at prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September as a “special presentation”.

Indo-American community leader Rajan Zed said it clearly exhibits that India is emerging as an important player in global cinema market and becoming increasingly influential in Hollywood.

“The Joneses”, a 93 minutes drama/comedy, is about an apparently “perfect” family which moves into a posh suburban neighborhood and which IMDB calls “a social commentary on our consumerist society”.

Filmed in Georgia and Washington states, its cast besides Moore includes Golden Globe winner David Duchovny (The X Files), Amber Heard (Never Back Down), Gary Cole (Forever Strong), Emmy nominated Glenne Headly (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), etc.

Vistaar Religare is planning more premiers in London (UK) and India, including flying in Moore, Duchovny and other cast members. It has also funded South African film “Finding Lenny” (Neal Sundstrom) and intends to continue funding mainstream Hollywood film projects, besides Indian films. Sunil Godhwani is the CEO of Religare Enterprises Limited. (ANI)
