Qaeda-backed LeT set for series of terror attacks in India, warns Israel’s NSC

Tel Aviv, Sep.18 (ANI): Israel’s National Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau has issued a terror warning for India, saying a Pakistani terror group, having close links with Al-Qaeda, is planning to carry out series of strikes across the country.

“A Pakistani terror organization affiliated with al-Qaida and responsible for the attacks in Mumbai last year is planning to carry out a string of attacks throughout the Indian subcontinent,” the notice issued by the bureau stated.

The warning said that though foreigners, especially from western countries could be targeted, and that Israelis and places where Israelis usually assemble in large numbers are on top of the terror outfit’s hit list.

The bureau rated the threat as ‘imminent and concrete’ and emphasized on the Jammu and Kashmir region, The Jerusalem Post reported.

This is probably the first time that such a warning has been issued regarding threat to Israelis in India, as India is considered a friendly country with thousands of Israelis living in different part of the nation. (ANI)

US drone strikes slowly but surely breaking Pak Taliban’s back: Expert

Washington, Sep.17 (ANI): Experts believe that the US drones have successfully targeted Al-Qaeda and Taliban hideouts in Pakistan killing several top and most wanted extremist commanders.

Analysts believe that elimination of tier two extremist leaders was very significant, as it has broken the back of the terror organization, and it would be hard for them to fill the gap.

“Targeting middle-level officers is important because when you do kill the senior commanders, there’s no one to fill their shoes,” said Bruce Hoffman, a Georgetown University based professor who specializes in terrorism.

With a change in the White House administration, CIA drone attacks in Pakistan also intensified. Tehreek-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud, who was believed to have masterminded former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, was also killed in a missile hit carried out by the unmanned aircrafts last month.

According to the Long War Journal, America has launched 74 drone-missile attacks since August 2008, out of which 38 were launched this year alone.

A top US intelligence official has also touted the success of intelligence operations against Al Qaeda and other extremist groups, that had enabled aggressive pursuit of the terrorists.

“What has really made all the nations safer has been the accumulation of knowledge about Al Qaeda and its affiliate groups, which enables us to be more aggressive in expanding that knowledge and stopping things before they happen, : The Wall Street Journal quoted Dennis Blair, Director of National Intelligence, as saying. Israel says Goldstone Report supports terror

Jerusalem, Sep.16 (ANI): Israel has described the Goldstone Commission Report as biased and nauseating, and added that it has created an unjust “equivalence of a democratic state with a terror organization”.

The commission, established by the UN Human Rights Council and led by former South African constitutional court judge Richard Goldstone, concluded that “Israel committed actions amounting to war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity,” during Operation Cast Lead from late December to mid-January.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the report “concludes there is also evidence that Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes, as well as possibly crimes against humanity,” by firing rockets at cities in southern Israel.

The four-member investigative panel recommended that the UN Security Council require Israel to launch its own investigations.

American officials would not comment Tuesday about the report, or the possibility that the US would veto any effort in the Security Council to refer Israel to the ICC.

A US official said: “We’ve received a copy of Judge Goldstone’s report regarding the alleged human rights allegations during the Gaza conflict. As the report is lengthy, and the issues it addresses are complex, the findings will take time to digest, and we are reviewing it carefully.” (ANI)

Runaway Ohio Muslim teen’s attorney says she’s in danger if she rejoins parents

Ohio (US), Sep.1 (ANI): A 17-year-old girl who fled to Florida after converting from Islam to Christianity will be in “clear and present danger” if returned to Ohio due to her parent’s affiliation with an Islamic cultural center, her attorney claims.

In a 35-page memorandum filed Monday in Orange County family court, attorney John Stemberger claims Fathima Rifqa Bary, who will remain in foster care in Florida at least until a hearing on Thursday, should not be returned to the custody of her parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary, because of their connection to the Noor Islamic Cultural Center near Columbus, Ohio.

“The leader of the mosque, Dr. Hany Saqr, was previously an imam for another area mosque at the same time the largest known Al Qaeda cell in the U.S. since 9/11 was operating out of the mosque,” the document reads.

“Additionally, Dr. Saqr was identified in exhibits submitted by the Department of Justice in a recent terrorism finance trial in Texas as being one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in North America – an international organization responsible for birthing virtually every Islamic terrorist organization in the world, including Al Qaeda.”

According to Fox News, the centre also is affiliated with Dr. Salah Sultan, a “cleric alleged photographed with terrorist leaders designated as such by the U.S. government,” according to the document, and frequently hosts “extremist speakers” who have allegedly made statements supporting violence and terrorism.

Stemberger also claims the Noor Center has been “directly tied” to an ongoing probe into Somali-American youths who fled the U.S. to train in terror camps operated by the Al Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab terror organization.

Stemberger, who is seeking to obtain residence for Bary in Florida, says the claims made in his memorandum is not “a case” against Islam.

Shayan Elahi, an attorney for Rifqa’s father, declined to comment. (ANI)

Al Qaeda’s ‘deathly fear’ from US forces reflected in new book: Experts

Washington, July 10 (ANI): A new book published by the Al Queda reveals that the terror organization is under immense pressure from the US-driven war on terror in Pakistan.

Written by a senior Al Qaeda commander, Abu Yahya Al-Libi, the “Guide to the Laws Regarding Muslim Spies” was recently posted on jihadist Web sites.

The 150-page book also features an introduction by Al Oaeda’s No. , Ayman Al-Zawahri.

The book accuses some in Al Qaeda’s ranks of being spies who provide intelligence, including information about Al Qaeda camps and safehouses, to U.S. forces, Fox News reports.

“It would be no exaggeration to say that the first line in the raging Crusader campaign waged by America and its allies against the Muslims and their lands is the network of spies, of various and sundry sorts and kinds,” says the book, translated by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI

Terror experts have termed the book unique in its weak and worried tone.

“I haven’t ever seen this kind of language from senior Al Qaeda commanders before. In general, Al Qaeda speaks in a very triumphant tone, but in the new book Al-Libi speaks of the group’s dire straits and serious problems,” said Daniel Lev, who works for MEMRI.

“Such an admission of distress on the part of a senior Al Qaeda commander makes this a very unique book in terms of the author.”

Military analyst Tom McInerny said the book is a “gold mine” that attests to the success of the Predator strikes that are decimating Al Qaeda’s ranks in Pakistan.

“They are in deathly fear of airpower. Whether it’s unmanned drones or whether it’s fighters or bombers using precision weapons, they are deathly afraid,” said McInerny, a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Air Force.

Lev said that the group’s suspicions could be used as an excuse to conduct a purge, which could further harm the Al Qaeda’s stature in Pakistan.

“That can be the beginning of the end,” he said. (ANI)

Pak has ‘enough material’ against JuD, but could not produce it in court

Lahore, May 28 (ANI): The Pakistan government has ‘enough material’ against the Jamaat-ud- Dawa (JuD) leaders to prove that they have been involved in terror activities, but it could not produce it before a court of law.

Arguing on a petition against the detention of JuD leaders Hafiz Saeed and Colonel (retired) Nazir Ahmad, Attorney General Latif Khosa told the Lahore High Court (LHC) bench that the authorities have enough evidence against Saeed, Colonel Ahmad and several other JuD leaders to prove that they have involved in certain nefarious activities, but those cannot be produced before the court.

Khosa failed to clarify why the evidences could not be made public, The Daily Times reports.

He said the government was forced to detain both Saeed and Ahmed after their alleged involvement in November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Under persistent pressure from India and West after the 26/11 terror strike, the Pakistan government had initiated a crackdown on the banned terror organization Lashkar-e-Toiba’s frontal outfit, the Jammat-ud-Daawa.

Twenty offices, 87 schools, two libraries, seven religious schools and six websites linked to JuD, a group now proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations Security Council were also shut down.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) had imposed a ban on the JuD while declaring it a terrorist organization on December 10, 2008, for its involvement in the November 26, Mumbai terror attacks, but most of the organisation’s centers are still working as they did earlier. (ANI)

US unhappy with UK decision to reach out to Hizbullah

Jerusalem, Mar 14 (ANI): A senior US official has expressed strong disagreement with the British decision to begin contacts with Lebanese terror group Hizbullah.

The British Government hold an opposing view of the terror group, and this is their basis for dealing with the political organization.

President Barack Obama’s Administration does not view Hizbullah as an entity with separate military, political and social wings, according to a top US official.

Hizbullah, which is now part of the Lebanese Government, is officially listed in the US as a terror organization.

“We don’t see the differences between the integrated leadership that they see,” the Los Angeles Times quoted the official, as saying.

Gordon Duguid, a State Department spokesman, said last week that the US was not ready to follow the British example, but did not criticize the British decision.

The Obama Administration’s readiness to reach out to adversary regimes, such as Syria and Iran, has been a hallmark of its new foreign policy, but this has so far not extended to groups on its official terrorist registry, such as Hizbullah and Hamas.

A State Department official explained that the difference is that governments such as Syria and Iran, though they may support terrorism, can be productively engaged because as governments they can be swayed on the basis of their national interest.

Unlike terrorist groups, “they have the interests of states and may respond to interaction,” the official said.

The US official said he was appalled that Hizbullah has been hanging posters in Lebanon celebrating Imad Mughniyeh, an accused terrorist mastermind that the group has long insisted was not connected to their organization.

Mughniyeh, assassinated in Damascus in February 2008, was held responsible for a long list of terrorist attacks and also had a US bounty on his head, The Jerusalem Post reported. (ANI)
