One more mistake will wreck McLaren’s title bid, warns Button

London, May 20 (ANI): Formula One champion Jenson Button, who is trailing this year in drivers competition, has warned that his team’s one more mistake will wreck their title bid.

The Formula One champ has followed teammate Lewis Hamilton in urging McLaren to sort things out.

Button slumped from first to fourth in the standings when a mechanic left a cooling bung in his side pod as he went to the grid in Monaco, causing his engine to blow early in the race.

“Lewis and I have failed to finish in one race. The whole team has got to make sure that’s the only time this year we fail to score points,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.

“I think we’ve seen all the top teams make small mistakes so far this year. But those small errors can sometimes have bigger consequences,” he added. (ANI)

Hamilton warns McLaren to sort out mess or forget about title

London, May 18 (ANI): Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton has warned his team to sort the mess out, after McLaren was swept from the top of the drivers and constructors championships by the Red Bulls.

Hamilton and teammate Jenson Button’s challenge for title glory has been hit by a series of reliability problems.

Button slumped from top of the drivers standings to fourth after his engine blew up in Monaco on Sunday, The Sun reports.

Button is now eight points behind of race winner Mark Webber with Hamilton at seventh position.

Hamilton said: “We’ve under-performed. We’ve a big gap to make up. I doubt whether we can catch up with them by the next race. It’s not impossible but not likely. It’s up to me and Jenson to go in and really push the guys and get them on it.”

“We have to keep stressing to them they have to make that step forward. But they are under no illusions we have a big gap to make up.

“It’s too easy for Red Bull at the moment. They weren’t even pushing in the race. It’s not that it was scary but it was just taking the mickey a little bit,” the paper quoted him, as saying.

Hamilton fears it could take until the British Grand Prix on July 11 before he and Button can trouble Red Bull.

“I’m hoping by Silverstone we will be able to challenge them. Just imagine me and Jenson with a one-two. We’re fired up – don’t worry about that. I think we’re doing an exceptional job considering our true pace. We’re punching a bit above our weight. I still reckon we can win both championships. We”re the best team,” he said. (ANI)

Metro Sports, Kids XI notch up easy victories

Metro Sports Club and Kids XI secured victories in the Podar International Invitational Hockey Tournament played at the PCMC Polygrass Stadium in Pimpri on Saturday.

Metro SC turned a deficit into a rout, thoroughly beating Raja Bungalow Sports Club 7-1.

Raja Bungalow took an early lead in the 6 th minute, when Rakesh Mari converted their first penalty corner of the match. Metro equalized in the 18 th minute, however, with Sangram Chaudhari scoring off a pass from Deep Patel. Patel added his own name to the scoresheet a few minutes later, latching onto a pass from Mukesh Viranje to score in the 31 st . Shabbir Sheikh gave Metro SC a 3-1 lead five minutes later, converting the team’s sixth penalty corner of the match. Sheikh doubled his tally in the 46 th minute, set up by Ashish Bhosale who himself had scored in the 39 th . With the score reading 5-1 in Metro’s favour, Rakesh Pollaya then added two more in the 50 th and 53 rd minutes to complete the 7-1 rout.

Kids XI over came MLI Group Six in the second match of the day. Dheeraj Chavan catapulted them into the lead early in the match, finding the back of the net off a pass from Sandesh More in the 3 rd minute. Vivek Kale scored another in the 5 th minute, and added his second in the 23 rd to help Kids XI leave their opponents reeling at 3-0. MLI recovered, however, and struck twice in the 28 th and 34 th minutes to claw their way back into the match. The breakthroughs for MLI were provided by Jagdish Puduke and Somnath Sawant.

However, Sachin Savant of Kids XI found his teammate Yogin Nandi free in the 43 rd minute, and Nandi calmly slotted home to give his side some breathing room as they held on for a 4-2 victory.

Priyadarshini SC looked like they were heading for victory when they went into halftime with a 2-0 lead over their opponents Shiloh Sports Club. Prashant Kale drew first blood, scoring off a pass from Arnold Martin in the 4 th minute. Abhijit Gangawane doubled Priyadarshini’s lead in the 11 th minute, scoring his team’s second penalty corner. Shiloh SC came back strongly in the second half, with Vijay Karkatta pulling one back through a penalty corner in the 28 th minute. Ilyaz Kess then added another in the 58 th minute, slotting home a pass from Sunil Karkatta to draw Shiloh level and take the match into a tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, Abhijit Gangawane, Dinesh Chawan and Rocky Anthony converted their penalty strokes for Priyadarshini, while Ramesh Ekka and Ilyaz Kess netted for Shiloh Sports. Priyadarshini goalkeeper William D’Souza pulled off a save off Supriya Karkatta’s shot to give his team victory.

Afghan test for wary India in T20 WC

Up against an unheralded Afghanistan in their tournament-opener, India will have to guard against complacency to ensure a flying start to their campaign in the T20 cricket World Cup here tomorrow.

Considering there is very little room for errors in the slam-bang format of the game, India would have to be at their best to avoid the ignominy of being destroyed by the minnows of international cricket.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already warned his star-studded legion not to underestimate Afghanistan and teammate Yuvraj was also worried about the X-factor of their opponents, who have caught the imagination of the world over the last two years.

“It can be dangerous when you don’t know what the opposition is like. After ten overs you will end up in a situation when you don’t know what you are going to do.

We cannot take Aghanistan lightly: Dhoni

Gros Islet, April 29 (IANS) India might have been termed the favourites to win World Twenty20 but their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not taking their opening match against debutants Afghanistan lightly.

The World Twenty20 kicks off here Friday and Afghanistan team, with their country’s turbulent past, has generated quite an interest here. The team notched up a five-wicket win against Ireland Tuesday and Dhoni knows his boys cannnot afford to be complacent in a format where every team has a chance to create an upset.

‘I would not consider our opening match against Afghanistan as a practice game,’ Dhoni said in St.Lucia.

‘I don’t take my opponents lightly. At the end of the day you have to win whichever team you play. I don’t know much about them. It is good in a way because if we know too much about a side, then you are thinking too much about them. However, our preparation will remain the same as if you are playing the best opponent in world cricket.’

‘At the end of the day, you are representing India and you have to be at your best when you turn up on the field.’

India will be without Virender Sehwag, out due to a shoulder injury, but Dhoni is not mulling on the absence of their star opener. Sehwag has been replaced by Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings teammate Murali Vijay and the captain is hoping that he will live up to the expectations.

‘It (injury) is part and parcel of cricket. Players get injured but at the end of the day we have best possible replacements. We just hope that we won’t miss them on the field and people who have come as replacements would step up to the occasion and perform.’

Dhoni also backed an out-of-form Yuvraj Singh and said it’s just a matter of time that the Punjab player will return to his big hitting ways.

‘He (Yuvraj) bats at number four and he can easily play the big shots. There aren’t enough grounds in the world that are big enough for him not to clear,’ Dhoni said.

‘These big hitters have a big impact on the game. Somebody like Kieron Pollard or (Andrew) Symonds are the kind of players who can take the game away from the opponents in three or four overs. It is a big stage for him and, as we have seen of him, he loves challenges.’

The Indian captain said his team is keyed up for the challenge here.

‘Right now we are keen to play the games here (St Lucia). We are not looking too far. It is the not first time that we are touring the West Indies. So we know what the conditions would be like and are mentally prepared for it,’ Dhoni said.

‘We have a couple of days before we play the first game. It is important to get the most out of it. We have to adapt to the conditions here and be prepared for the matches ahead,’ Dhoni said.

‘Shattered’ Lee vows to play on despite latest injury setback

St. Lucia, Apr 30(ANI): Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has been shattered by his latest injury setback, but he is determined to play on and force his way back into the national one-day side for the July tour against Pakistan in England.

Lee sustained a muscle strain in his right forearm during the warm up game against Zimbabwe, which has ruled him out of the Twenty20 World Cup and also raised doubts over his international career

However, Lee’s manager, Neil Maxwell, said the 33-year-old fast bowler was not considering international retirement following his fifth notable injury in the past 16 months.

“I don’t think that he is at that mindset at the moment,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Maxwell, as saying.

“There is no doubt this is the home straight [of his career], but he knows that last October-November he was playing the best cricket of his career,” he added.

Teammate Nathan Hauritz is also confident that Lee would be able to make recover fully and make a strong comeback.

“Knowing Brett the way I do, he’ll work hard because he still wants to play a lot of cricket. He’ll have to do a lot of work,” he added.

Earlier, Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris had said that the injury was unrelated to Lee’s career-threatening surgery on the same elbow late last year, and said the fast bowler could be back in action within five weeks.

“I think as a long-term injury it shouldn”t be that serious. It’s basically a strain on his forearm muscle just on the inside of his elbow. We don”t see a lot of them. His long-term future is not the problem,” Kountouris said.

“The issue now is whether Lee can summon the mental strength for yet another comeback for a body that keeps asking: when is enough enough?” he added.

The 33-year-old Lee, who has also battled foot, ankle and rib problems, had retired from Test cricket in February to prolong his career in the shorter forms of the game. (ANI)

David Goodwillie chucked out of pub for ‘romping with fan’

London, April 29 (ANI): Scottish footballer David Goodwillie is said to have been thrown out of a pub after he was accused of romping with a fan in the ladies’ loo.

According to onlookers at the city’s trendy Lowdown bar, Goodwillie, 21, who has a girlfriend, looked “pretty flustered” when he was caught by staff doing up his zip as he left a toilet cubicle with the girl.

He was enjoying a night out with teammate Danny Swanson hours after their side’s 2-0 defeat by Celtic on April 25.

“Goodwillie and Swanson came into the bar and were in pretty good spirits. They were speaking to fans and having a few drinks with them,” the Sun quoted the insider as saying.

“Goodwillie was chatting away to one girl for a wee while. After a bit he went into the toilets and she followed five minutes later.

“At last orders the bar staff were trying to clear everyone out of the pub. They checked the ladies’ toilets and realised someone was still in one cubicles. One of the girl’s friends said it was her pal and she was upset.

“After five minutes the door eventually opened. The girl came out with Goodwillie who was doing up his zip. He looked pretty worked up and was told to leave by staff,” the insider added.

Dundee United and the player’s agent have both denied the accusations.

“David admits being in the pub but strenuously denies the other allegations,” a spokesman for the club said.

His agent, Jim Harkins, added: “There is no truth in this.”

But a spokesperson for Lowdown insisted the incident did take place.

“David Goodwillie and a female were asked to leave the pub after being caught in a toilet cubicle together,” she stated. (ANI)

Ross Brawn criticises Button for leaving his F1 team

London, Apr 27 (ANI): Formula One champion Jenson Button has been criticised for walking out on Brawn GP, the outfit that helped him to the F1 world title last year.

Team boss Ross Brawn, who brought in Button after taking over the former Honda team in March 2009, blasted him for leaving the team.

“I was disappointed Jenson left. He felt people were of the opinion he only won the world championship because he had the best car. So he left us to show them he could do it again elsewhere,” Brawn said.

“We are still friends. We were on the same flight back from Malaysia and we had a good chat. But on the racetrack it is different. There are no friends on the racetrack,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“Jenson was a fabulous member of our team last year but now he is the history and we have to beat him. He also wanted to prove himself at McLaren against the guy who is probably the fastest and most naturally talented in motor racing – Lewis Hamilton. He’s set himself a massive challenge and he is doing very well so far.”

The Mercedes GP chief was speaking at the launch of The Brawn Lifeboat Challenge.

The object is to raise 350,000 pounds for the RNLI to buy a new lifeboat for the River Thames.

Brawn is confident that Michael Schumacher will start winning races, while also helping his teammate Nico Rosberg’s career. (ANI)

Schumacher to compete in Mercedes’ new car at Spanish Grand Prix

London, Apr 27 (ANI): In a bid to kickstart Michael Schumacher’s woeful Formula One season, Mercedes will give the seven time champion a ‘new’ car for next week’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champ has been humbled so far by teammate Nico Rosberg.

His fellow German has out qualified and beaten him in all four races to date amid mounting concern that Schumacher may be unable to replicate his previous brilliance, particularly after his lacklustre 10th place finish in China.

At Barcelona next weekend, Mercedes will give him a different car in the hope that its handling will be more to his liking, The Sun reports.

Team principal Ross Brawn said: “It’s not a new chassis per se, it’s a chassis we used in testing. The one he had got damaged during the first few races and we repaired it as best we could at the races.”

“But now we are back at base we are going to re-introduce the test chassis and he will be using that in Barcelona.”

Brawn said the wheelbase would also be changed to improve weight distribution.

And along with most other teams, Mercedes is planning a major aerodynamic revamp for the first European race of the season. (ANI)

‘Fully fit’ Akhtar eyeing England tour for comeback

Islamabad, Apr.24 (ANI): Controversial Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar might have been rejected as a spent force by critics, but the bowler is determined to make a come back in the national squad and is eyeing the forthcoming Test series against England for a return to the international stage, according to his domestic teammate Saeed Anwar Jr.

Anwar , who plays for Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) along with Akhtar, said the “Rawalpindi Express” has been training hard for the past few months and has improved his fitness level to a great extent.

“I know it”s fashionable to say Shoaib Akhtar is finished and that he”s no longer able to play professional cricket but I disagree. I”ve never seen Shoaib working as hard as he has been these past few months, his fitness is greatly improved and he”s totally focused on making a come back,” Anwar Jr. told Cricistan.com.

He said Akhtar’s recent six-wicket haul in a domestic match shows that he has recovered from his knee operation and is raring to go, adding that the 34-year old pacer is targeting the forthcoming England tour for a comeback.

“England holds a lot of happy memories for Shoaib and it”s the upcoming tour of England that he”s targeting for his return to the international fold,” Anwar Jr. said.

Chief selector Mohsin Khan has already made it clear that if Akhtar continues to perform at the domestic level he could considered for recall.

“The best part about Shoaib and his latest comeback bid is that he appears to be really positive. He is really disciplined on the field. He is working hard and appears to be really focused. I’m getting really good vibes from him,” Khan had said earlier.

When asked whether the selection committee would consider Akhtar’s name if he is declared fully fit, Khan said he would love to have a ‘match-winner’ like him back in the Pakistan team provided he continues to bowl well and prove his fitness. (ANI)

Wife of Brazil ace dumps him over his wild partying ways

London, Apr.24 (ANI): The wife of Brazilian football star Alexandre Pato has dumped him over his wild nights with teammate Ronaldinho.

The 20-year-old star, a summer target of Chelsea, and actress Sthefany Brito, 22, were dubbed Brazil””s Posh and Becks.

They wed nine months ago in a lavish 300,000-pound ceremony.

According to The Sun, Sthefany reportedly hit the roof over his partying with fellow AC Milan and Brazilian ace Ronaldinho in Italy.

“Brazil coach Dunga may leave Pato out of the World Cup over this,” a source was quoted, as saying. (ANI)

Scholes is a legend, says Man U teammate Fletcher

London, Apr 21 (ANI): Hailing Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes performance, midfielder Darren Fletcher has described him as a legend.

Scholes scored United’s last-gasp winner in the derby victory over bitter rivals Manchester City on Saturday.

Fletcher said: “We won’t ever see another one like Paul Scholes. He is a legend and a real benchmark. He is not interested in the modern day footballer’s life off the pitch, but he is a world-class player on it.”

“He has probably never really got the true recognition he deserved outside of Manchester United because he never did the media. He didn’t do interviews and never put himself out for things like that,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“I cannot believe he has never been nominated for World, European or domestic individual honours because in his prime he was scoring 20 goals a season from midfield,” he said.

“It is astonishing he has never won a personal award but given the choice of winning something and then having to get up and do the speech, I think he would rather not have won them,” Fletcher added.

There were rumours that Scholes could have retired at the end of the season.

“It is crazy to suggest that he shouldn’t have got another contract. On Saturday he was the best player on the park. Even before his goal he was controlling it at his tempo,” Fletcher said. (ANI)

Retirement Yousuf’s personal decision: PCB

Islamabad, Mar.31 (ANI): Describing former captain Mohammed Yousuf’s decision to retire from international cricket as his ‘personal’ choice, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it is now up to the selection committee to decide to whether pick him up for future assignments or not.

“Retirement is Yousuf ‘s personal decision, it now depends on the selection committee whether they select him for future assignments or not,” PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari said.

Bari declined to comment on whether the PCB would ask Yousuf to reconsider his decision.

Meanwhile, several former Pakistani cricketers have denounced the PCB for forcing Yousuf to hang his boots.

Former captain and Yousuf’s teammate Inzamam-ul-Haq criticised the PCB for ill-treating a player like Yousuf.

“You don’t treat senior players like this, there is total confusion and contradiction in the charges made against Yousuf by the inquiry committee. I think Yousuf is hurt and will not change his decision,” Inzamam said.

Another former skipper Rameez Raja described Yousuf’s decision to call it a day as a ‘bitter end to a glorious career.’

“For the last six months controversies have followed him and forced him to take this decision,” Raja said. (ANI)

‘Humiliated’ Yousuf decides to hang up his boots

Karachi, Mar.27 (ANI): Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Yousuf has reportedly decided to quit international cricket in protest against the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to ban him for an indefinite period.

Yousuf would be announcing his retirement on Monday.

“Yes, I have decided to retire as Pakistan player and my decision is not an emotional one. It’s of no use playing after such an insult which is unacceptable and I will announce my decision on Monday,” Yousuf told a foreign news agency.

The PCB had slapped an indefinite ban on Yousuf and his teammate Younis Khan after a report of the inquiry committee, which was set up to look into reasons behind Pakistan’s deplorable performance during Australia tour.

Pakistan drew the three-match series in New Zealand 1-1 but lost all three Tests, five one-day and a Twenty20 match in Australia.

Earlier this week, the 35-year-old middle order batsman, who scored most number of Test runs in a calendar year in 2006 breaking the record of Vivian Richards, had said that he would appeal against the PCB’s decision.

“Yes, I may still appeal, but a final decision will be taken on Monday,” Yousuf had said.

“I am deeply hurt because I have always played with commitment for my country and fans know this, but not those people who run cricket, this is a big tragedy,” he added.

The PCB also denied any central contract to Yousuf, which were announced earlier this week.

Originally a Roman Catholic, Yousuf converted to Islam in 2005 and has since been involved in preaching besides playing cricket.

Yousuf has so far played 88 Tests for Pakistan, scoring 7,431 runs with 24 hundreds. He has also scored 9,624 in 282 one-day internationals.

He was declared best player of 2007 by the International Cricket Council (ICC). (ANI)

Schumacher’s days as a dominant force in Formula 1 over: Webber

London, Mar 24 (ANI): Red Bull driver Mark Webber believes he has seen enough in just one race weekend to know the legendary Michael Schumacher’s days as a dominant force in Formula 1 are over.

Webber predicts the 41-year-old will suffer a string of embarrassing defeats to little-known teammate Nico Rosberg.

Schumacher has already suffered two embarrassing defeats to Rosberg, first in qualifying in Bahrain and then in the race as they finished fifth and six.

“It depends what people mean by competitive because Michael was competitive in Bahrain,” The Mirror quoted Webber, as saying.

“Is him winning by 60 seconds like he used to in the past, competitive? Winning by those sorts of margins will be tough for Schumacher this season but yes he will be competitive.

“Whether he can be as dominant as he was in the past will be another subject. I wouldn’t expect him to beat Nico – I expect it to be close. Rosberg is competitive and I would say Schumacher is too,” Webber said. (ANI)

Button warns next two races crucial for Formula One future

London, Mar 24 (ANI): Formula One champion Jenson Button has warned that the next two races will be deciding whether the sport should hold fire before making any changes following the boring Bahrain Grand Prix opener.

Button said Formula One chiefs should get advice from drivers before changing regulations.

“Drivers have a good understanding of what the car is doing and possibilities for improving the car. This season we’ve taken away a lot of grip with going to a narrow front tyre,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.

“When you come up behind someone, you don’t have the grip you had last year to follow and overtake. But you can’t just think of one area. We need to see what happens this weekend in Australia and then Malaysia,” he said.

“Let’s not get carried away. If the next two races are also not very exciting, then we as F1 need to look at the options. That’s not pointing a finger at anyone. We all need to have ideas and, hopefully, we are listened to and can improve the sport.

“Last year, the racing was some of the best we’ve seen and there was quite a bit of overtaking. But if it becomes too easy to overtake, the moves are not exciting,” Button added.

Button is certain that Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit will make Sunday’s race more exciting than Bahrain.

The McLaren star finished seventh after being stuck behind Mercedes rival Michael Schumacher for long periods.

“I hope it is more exciting. Bahrain felt boring to me but I was stuck behind a car the whole race. Tyres will work differently here, so it could be more fun.”

Button is sure that he and his teammate Lewis Hamilton will be closer to Ferrari and Red Bull this time around. (ANI)

Injured Tuffey hopeful of playing in the Twenty20 cricket World Cup

Wellington, Mar 24 (ANI): Injured New Zealand bowler Daryl Tuffey is hopeful of playing in the Twenty20 cricket World Cup starting in five weeks’ time, but his teammate Neil Broom has been ruled out after suffering a broken bone in his hand.

Tuffey will have surgery at Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital on Thursday to repair the fourth metacarpal in his left hand that was broken by a Mitchell Johnson delivery in the first test defeat against Australia in Wellington on Tuesday.

The seamer is optimistic of playing in the T20 World Cup, with New Zealand facing their tournament opener against Sri Lanka in Guyana on April 30.

“Hopefully I’ll only be out four or five weeks, at best. I’m hoping that I can be available for (Twenty20) selection but I won’t know until I see the surgeon,” Tuffey told Radio Sport.

Broom, who badly broke his thumb while fielding for Otago against Northern Districts in Whangarei earlier this week, is expected to be sidelined for seven weeks, ruling him out of the Twenty20 tournament that concludes with the final in Barbados on May 16.

“It was just a lame bit of fielding. He didn”t hit it that hard and just sort of pushed it out to me,” Broom told the Otago Daily Times.

“But I got it on the wrong point of the thumb and it dislocated about 90deg out the other way. A little bit of bone was poking out the other side, so it wasn’t looking that great.”

Broom was named in the extended 30-man New Zealand Twenty20 squad after scoring 608 first-class runs at 67.55. (ANI)

Schumacher will be on the top by Malaysian leg of F1: Niki Lauda

London, Mar 23 (ANI): Seven times Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, who returned from retirement recently, will shake off a bit more rustiness in Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix before fully regaining his brilliance the following weekend in Malaysia, said Austrian legend Niki Lauda.

The Austrian legend took two years out before returning to win the third of his three world titles, albeit not until the third year of his comeback.

Lauda is not concerned that seven-time champ Schumacher was out qualified and outraced by Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg at the opening Grand Prix in Bahrain.

He insisted the 41-year-old German produced a “perfect performance” even though many expected him to be a winner straight away, The Sun reports.

Lauda said: “You can hardly start any better. He ran very little over the winter due to test restrictions, then got into a modified car he had never driven before. So it was simply impossible for him to clock a qualification lap at the push of a button.”

“I suppose he needs about three races to get back up to the same level he was at. When you take all that into account, he did a superb qualification lap, even compared to Nico who was only three-tenths faster.

“My guess is that in Kuala Lumpur he will have regained the ability to switch on for a fast lap that every driver has to have,” Lauda added. (ANI)

Valenica likely to sell David Villa for 40-mn pounds

London, Mar 23 (ANI): Chelsea and Manchester City are on the alert after debt-riddled Valencia agreed to sell striker David Villa.

Villa’s teammate Silva is also available and Manchester United is sure to fancy the attacking midfielder, who may fetch up to 20 million pounds.

The Spanish team wants to raise 50 million pounds by selling both players, but Villa could cost 40 million pounds alone if a bidding war erupts between the Premier League’s richest clubs.

Insiders say Villa, who has scored 121 goals in 223 outings for Valencia and 37 in 55 internationals, will also be wanted by Barcelona and Real Madrid, The Sun reports.

But he is likely to prefer a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea being his first choice.

Nicolas Anelka is stalling over an extended one-year deal at Chelsea and Blues fans would view Villa, 28, as a good replacement.

Villa said: “For now my head is in Valencia and the World Cup. After South Africa I will decide what”s best. My final decision won”t be based solely on money.” (ANI)

Button favours big decisions to make Formula One exciting

London, Mar 22 (ANI): F1 champion Jenson Button insists big decisions must be made if Formula One fails to brighten up over the next few races.

Button was furious as the new regulations turned last week’s Bahrain Grand Prix into a procession.

It means the pressure is on for F1 over the next three races, starting in Australia next Sunday, The Sun reports.

Button said: “I don’t know how we are going to make the racing more exciting than it is. I hope it’s just because of the layout in Bahrain and it was the first race.”

“It’s annoying because it’s a sport I love and it’s tough to see a procession. There’s still every chance it’s going to be a fantastic season. We just have to see what happens over the next few races.

“But if it’s not going in the right direction, then people have to start making the decisions,” he added.

Button’s McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton even said his mother Linda was bored at Bahrain.

And the former world champion thinks Red Bull are the team to beat this season despite Ferrari one-two in the opening race.

He said: “You’ve got to assume the next race will be more exciting. The track should be more favourable as it’s a street circuit. But the Red Bull is ridiculously faster than anyone else. It’s insane.” (ANI)
