Brits flocking nudist camps for full-body tans

London, July 4 (ANI): Ever since the heat wave has begun, Britons are heading towards nudist colonies in large numbers in a bid to get all-over body tans.

The British Naturism Foundation said that the number of people contacting its sun clubs and nudist beaches rose from 2,000-a-week to 12,000 as temperatures rose to more than 86F (30C).

“It’s been staggering, much more than the usual levels of interest we get. And the rise is mainly through women wanting that perfect tan, particularly the younger generation,” the Telegraph quoted spokesman Andrew Welch as saying.

“It’s certainly a really surprising response, especially from women who normally tend to be more shy about getting their clothes off.

“But it’s a perfectly natural thing – we’re happy to welcome them along. The tanning aspect of naturism isn’t new as for years we’ve been welcoming people who want to do away with the white lines,” he added.

Welch said that the stigma of nudism was getting diminished with a shift in cultural taboos and open-mindedess about the body image.

“Of course many people still think there is some sort of erotic thrill behind the reason to get naked. And you’ll be surprised by how liberating couples say it is when they strip off,” he said.

The Invicta Sun Club, near Dover in Kent, is just one of the many woodland ‘sun clubs’ which has seen a rise in enquiries over the last week.

David Shaw, spokesman for the club, said: “It’s certainly gone up and it’s no surprise that nationally the numbers are on the rise. On days likes these what could be nicer than stripping off and jumping naked into a nice cold pool.” (ANI)

Asteroids age quickly because of a ‘sun tan’

Munich, April 23 (ANI): A new study has revealed that asteroid surfaces age and redden much faster than previously thought – in less than a million years, all thanks to solar winds.

“Asteroids seem to get a ‘sun tan’ very quickly,” said lead author Pierre Vernazza. “But not, as for people, from an overdose of the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation, but from the effects of its powerful wind,” he added.

It has long been known that asteroid surfaces alter in appearance with time.

The observed asteroids are much redder than the interior of meteorites found on Earth, but the actual processes of this “space weathering” and the timescales involved were controversial.

Thanks to observations of different families of asteroids using ESO’s New Technology Telescope at La Silla and the Very Large Telescope at Paranal, as well as telescopes in Spain and Hawaii, Vernazza’s team have now solved the puzzle.

When two asteroids collide, they create a family of fragments with “fresh” surfaces.

The astronomers found that these newly exposed surfaces are quickly altered and change color in less than a million years – a very short time compared to the age of the Solar System.

“The charged, fast moving particles in the solar wind damage the asteroid’s surface at an amazing rate,” said Vernazza.

Unlike human skin, which is damaged and aged by repeated overexposure to sunlight, it is, perhaps rather surprisingly, the first moments of exposure (on the timescale considered) – the first million years – that causes most of the aging in asteroids.

By studying different families of asteroids, the team has also shown that an asteroid’s surface composition is an important factor in how red its surface can become.

After the first million years, the surface “tans” much more slowly. At that stage, the color depends more on composition than on age.

Moreover, the observations reveal that collisions cannot be the main mechanism behind the high proportion of “fresh” surfaces seen among near-Earth asteroids.

Instead, these “fresh-looking” surfaces may be the results of planetary encounters, where the tug of a planet has “shaken” the asteroid, exposing unaltered material.

Thanks to these results, astronomers will now be able to understand better how the surface of an asteroid, which often is the only thing we can observe, reflects its history. (ANI)

Lindsay Lohan ‘using rival spray-tan brand’

New York, Apr 3 (ANI): Despite launching her own spray-tan line, actress Lindsay Lohan hasn’t stopped using other brands.

According to sources, the ‘Mean Girls’ star has employed the services of mobile spray tanner Fake Bake several times over the past few months.

“Lindsay tans on the sly, and will have the van come to the house of her girlfriend [Samantha Ronson] instead of her own for discretionary purposes,” the New York Daily News quoted a source as saying.

Lohan’s own spray-tan line, Sevin Nyne, will hit the stores on April 15.

When asked about her brand loyalty, the actress’ business partner, Kristi Kaylor said Lohan only uses Sevin Nyne.

“Lindsay only uses Sevin Nyne,” said Kaylor.

“As well as perfecting the solution with our lab and choosing the scent, Lindsay named the product, art-directed the visual components and has been involved every step of the way.

“Lindsay also has her own machine and gallons of Sevin Nyne solution that she uses regularly,” she added. (ANI)
