‘Sex symbol’ tag hurts me, says Megan Fox

London, Aug 24 (ANI): Movie siren Megan Fox says that she gets hurt every time she is called a sex symbol.

She told the Daily Star Sunday: “The attention, that other people are telling you that you are beautiful, only feeds insecurities and sort of makes it unbearable.”

The Transformers beauty also admitted that she regularly smokes cannabis and has therapy to help her beat the sex demons that have tormented her since childhood.

Fox blames her ultra-strict religious upbringing for her deep insecurities.

She said: “I was raised Pentecostal, which is one of the most extreme denominations of Christianity that exists. Everything is evil and wrong and will send you to hell.

“So I had lots of talks about how sex was evil, sex was bad.”

However, she said that her role in her new film Jennifer’s Body had helped. She plays a teen who becomes a man-eater after being possessed by a sex-mad spirit.

She admitted: “I get to exorcise my demons through her. She has really deep, unfriendly insecurities which I can relate to.”

And when asked how she escapes her torment at home, she said: “I usually smoke weed and watch Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.” (ANI)

Hardcore sex simulation scenes in new movie turned off Josh Lucas

London, July 9 (ANI): Actor Josh Lucas admits that the seedy scenes in his new movie left him feeling dirty and ‘strange’.

The Sweet Home Alabama star, who plays a con man who craves crazy sex in the film, says that he has been left scarred after doing nine very hardcore sex simulation scenes with naked women he’d never met.

“One of the weirdest days of my life was the day my character put an ad on (website) CraigsList for 20 women from the ages of 19-65 for the sex montage scene,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

“I filmed nine very hardcore sex simulation scenes with women I never met with all of us completely naked. At the end of the day I felt crazy! It’s something that I think only porn stars actually do in their life when they come in contact with that many people on that level.

“You’re sharing body fluids whether you like it or not, sweat and sensation. I could never be a porn star. I was shook up. I did not walk away from that thinking, ‘Oh, that was fun.’ It was very strange,” he added.

Lucas says that is now keen to do a family-friendly film.

“I was a mess for 30 days. He’s so full of pain and self-hatred. I was living that every day and rage and guilt and traumatic things and my body felt pretty whacked,” he said.

“At the end of the day I’d crawl away and my dreams were pretty weird,” he added. (ANI)

A spokeswoman for the 20,000 capacity venue issued an apology over the delay.

Applegate’s sense of humour helped her cope with cancer

Washington, Mar 24 (ANI): Hollywood actress Christina Applegate, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, has revealed that it was her sense of humour that helped her cope with the disease.

Applegate tells that “the only way to cope” with the disease was laughing throughout the painful treatment.

The 37-year-old is cancer-free since having a double mastectomy – after doctors diagnosed her with an early form of illness in 2008.

Applegate also credited her mother Nancy Priddy, who is also a breast cancer survivor, for helping her throughout her treatment.

“I have a lot of energy and just kind of pushing past it, moving on. That’s just how I operate, I have to with everything in my life and all the things that have happened. It’s the only way I can kind of cope,” Contactmusic quoted Applegate, as saying.

Meanwhile, the stunner is planning a return to Broadway – four years after making her debut on the New York stage.

The California-born admits she has longed to return to theatre since her stint in the 2005 revival of Sweet Charity, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for best actress in a musical. (ANI)

Sports teams’ rankings don’t affect their chances of success deeper into any tournament

Washington, March 17 (ANI): Sports teams’ rankings may predict their chances of winning during the initial stages of any tournament, but they start becoming statistically insignificant as the final round draws near, says a University of Illinois expert.

Sheldon H. Jacobson, a professor of computer science, says that the higher-seeded teams are most likely to beat their lower-seeded opponents in the first three rounds of an NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

He, however, add that once the field has been winnowed to the so-called “Elite Eight” teams, each team’s odds of winning are statistically equal, no matter how high or low the teams were initially ranked at the start of the tournament.

“The deeper you get into the tournament, the less effective seeding is in predicting winners,” Jacobson says.

Jacobson says that for the 12 teams that comprise the top three seeds in each of the four regional brackets, seeding is an “excellent predictor” of the outcomes of the first three rounds of games with those teams.

“In the first round, the No. 1 seed has beaten the No. 16 seed 100 percent of the time,” he says.

“But after the Sweet Sixteen, it is a statistical toss-up as to who wins the remaining games. A team’s seeding can be thrown out the window. They really do not give you a good indication of who is going to win the games,” he adds.

Jacobson says that the impetus of the study was not to predict brackets or winners in advance of the tournament, but to see if the top three teams’ seeding in each bracket is a good predictor of how far they will go in the “Big Dance.”

“I have always been surprised that the first seeds seem to do better than the second seeds, who seem to do better than the third seeds, because you would think that there is not really a big difference between the top three seeds from each of the four regions,” he says.

As to whether there is a statistically significant difference between what are ostensibly the top 12 teams in the country, he says: “The answer is both ‘yes’ and ‘no’.

There are differences, but it is not a question as to whether they are different; it is a question as to when they are different, based on the rounds of the tournament. Seeds are important, but they start to lose their strength beginning in the Sweet Sixteen round. By the time they reach the Elite Eight, those teams were not statistically different than anyone else in the field.”

Despite its weakness as a predictive model, Jacobson doesn’t believe the seed-based ranking system used by the NCAA needs to be replaced wholesale.

“The committee has a very challenging job seeding the teams, and the tournament format by design is exciting,” he said.

“We are talking about bringing 65 teams together from all the major conferences – the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, PAC-10, ACC and the Big East – and then you have many teams that you rarely see on national television. But it should not change the seeding system, since seeds are not designed to predict the winner of each game, but rather, are based on a resume of performance for an entire season.”

An article about Jacobson’s observations, which he has written along with graduate student Douglas M. King, will be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Gambling Business and Economics.(ANI)

Madonna’s toyboy ‘moves in with her’

London, Mar 15 (ANI): Madonna’s new boyfriend Jesus Luz has moved in with her in New York – just three months after their first meeting.

Apparently, the hunky model has ditched his modelling agency in Rio de Janeiro and signed with elite agency Ford Models in the Big Apple.

And he’s set up home with the star in her Upper West Side apartment.

According to reports, the 50-year-old Queen of Pop has been cooking meals for her young boyfriend most evenings.

They have been attending Kabbalah meetings together and he has grown close to her three children Lourdes, 12, Rocco, eight, and David, three.

“Jesus has left his old life and his old friends behind. His whole world has turned on its head since he met Madonna,” The Mirror quoted a source, as saying.

“A few months ago he was living at his mum’s place in one of the poorest cities in the world. Now he’s got his feet under the table in a massive mansion block overlooking Central Park. And he’s on the books of the biggest modelling agency in the world.

“Madonna has changed too. She’s mellowed into a completely different person from the one who was married to Guy Ritchie. She never used to like cooking but now she has really got into it. They laugh a lot and enjoy staying in,” the source added.

Madonna and Jesus first met in Rio in December. They were brought together to pose as lovers in a hotel room for a sexy W Magazine shoot while she was touring with her Sticky And Sweet show. (ANI)

Madonna snubs Australia for tour finale

Melbourne, February 23 (ANI): Madonna’s fans in Australia may have to face disappointment with reports suggesting that the finale of her world tour may not take place Down Under.

But, according to Arthur Fogel, who looks after the Queen Of Pop’s present tour, the rumours were nothing less than misleading, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Fogel revealed that thanks to recession, the tour was likely to have its finale in Europe. (ANI)

Sweet potato grows roots in outer space

Washington, Feb 18 (ANI): Scientists undertook a study on a 5-day space mission on the shuttle Columbia, which showed sweet potato can regenerate its roots in microgravity.

The study was undertaken by Desmond G. Mortley and colleagues from the Center for Food and Environmental Systems for Human Exploration of Space, G.W. Carver Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Kennedy Space Center.

Seeds of several crops have been grown in microgravity, but this was the first test for plants grown from cuttings.

Cuttings grow roots faster than do seeds, and sweetpotato cuttings regenerate very easily.

This made them ideal for the study, half of which took place on a 5-day space mission on the shuttle Columbia.

The other half of the cuttings remained on earth as the ground-based control group at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Conditions were similar for both growing environments.

Both environments resulted in similar root growth development, though the microgravity roots tended to grow perpendicular to the cuttings.

The number of roots was almost the same in both samples. However, the length of roots grown in microgravity was significantly greater.

Microgravity cuttings contained significant accumulation of soluble sugars and higher starch concentration than ground cuttings; the starch grains appeared smaller in microgravity samples.

Despite these differences, the study was successful in showing that stem cuttings, at least those started in normal gravity conditions, can regenerate roots in microgravity.

“This suggests that the space flight environment has no negative effect on the ability of vegetative cuttings to form roots and that use of cuttings should be an acceptable means for propagating sweet potato for future space applications,” summarized the researchers.

The next step will be to experiment over longer space missions to test root cuttings’ ability to grow plants. (ANI)

Brazilian model Jesus Luz using Madonna’s name to build his career

New York, Jan 19 (ANI): Queen of pop Madonna seems to have had an effect on Brazilian male model Jesus Luz’s life and career, with him using his association with her to demand a bigger pay for his work.

Madge, 50, had met the 21-year-old model during her Sticky and Sweet tour in South America, and Luz has ever since used that as a climbing ladder for his career.

“All the modeling agencies came after him, but he chose Ford Models because [photographer and Madonna pal] Steven Klein had a talk with Katie Ford and convinced her that Jesus is, in fact, holy material,” the New York Post quoted a source as telling Glamurama.com.br.

Not only is Luz looking for more lucrative offers he has according to his former agent Sergio Mattos, the owner of 40 Graus Models, stopped picking up calls.

“He stopped answering his phone, his mother quit her job . . . But I wish him the best. And now I have a new Jesus,” Mattos, who just signed a contract with Spanish model Jesus Perez, told the Web site.

“This is a much better Jesus, and he’s not a fan of Madonna’s,” he stated.

Ever since meeting Madge, Luz has been raising his price and overestimating his importance.

“He was asking for some 135,000 dollars a show. He did the same job last year for a mere 225 dollars,” a Brazilian source said.

“A lot of people are contacting him but because he keeps raising his rates, they are changing their minds,” the source added.(ANI)

“She fell in love with the guitar before Christmas but rather than buying it while she was with him, Ronnie wanted to wait and surprise her,” the Sun quoted a pal of Ivanova, as saying.

“He loves to treat her with gifts and tokens of his affection.

“He has been spending a small fortune on her which she is more than happy to take,” Ivanova added.

What’s more, Ronnie has had both his and Ivanova’s initials inscribed on the instrument beside a soppy message he composed.

It reads: “Sweet as a daisy, sweet as a pearl, you’ll always be my little kitten.” (ANI)
