‘Disrespectful’ Jack Tweed delays Jade Goody memorial service

London, March 22 (ANI): Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweed reportedly showed disrespect after arriving at the star’s memorial service in London more than half an hour late.

The former jailbird’s late arrival allegedly led to the entire ceremony, to mark the first anniversary of the reality star’s death, be delayed.

The 22-year-old, dressed in scruffy jeans, sunglasses and a cardigan, also stayed away from his late wife’s grave during the official unveiling of her new headstone, The Daily Star reported.

Jackson’s daughter writes letters to him everyday

Washington, July 13 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya has revealed that the legend’s eleven-year-old daughter, Paris, has been writing letters to him everyday after his death.

“She wears Michael T-shirts every day and the walls of her room are covered with posters and pictures of her daddy. She still writes him letters every day, sweet lovely letters about how much she loves him. Her letters are brilliant. When you read them you cry,” Contactmusic quoted La Toya as saying.

The 53-year-old sibling of Jackson also added that Paris bought a ‘mood’ chain to place in her father’s coffin before he was buried.

The necklace, which had a metal heart on it that changes colour when it touches someone’s skin, divides into two.

And Paris kept half of it and said she will wear it “forever”.

La Toya said: “The heart is in two pieces. Paris told me, ‘I want one half to go to daddy and I will wear the other half forever’. She carefully wrapped it around his wrist. The “fashionable way” to stave off skin cancer

Washington, May 5 (ANI): Just applying sunscreen doesn’t guarantee full protection in the summer, and thus researchers have now offered insight into how some of today’s hottest fashion trends can help play it safe in the sun without leaving you feeling like a well-greased baking pan.

Dr. Susan Y. Chon, assistant professor in The University of Texas M. D. Anderson’s Department of Dermatology, has explained how the hottest trends from the spring/summer 2009 runway shows also can provide skin cancer prevention and maximize clothing’s sun protection power.

Sunglasses:

The most fabulous, current sunglass styles are those with extra-large frames that help protect the delicate skin around the eyes from skin cancer and aging. Sunglasses also should have broad ultraviolet (UV) protection that absorbs at least 99 percent of UV rays for maximum cancer prevention benefits.

Leggings:

Leggings have now become a runway staple and can go under dresses and tunics even in hot weather because they aren’t as heavy as pants. They are a great way to defend legs from UVA and UVB rays while running errands or at an outdoor barbeque.

Long Dresses:

Another leg-saving fashion trend that is extremely popular on the runways for spring/summer 2009 is the move from “mini” to “maxi”-long dresses are everywhere, and are being worn for day and night.

Hats:

Modern, wide-brimmed sun hats shield the face, neck, ears and chest from the sun. The trend this season on the runway-the bigger the brim, the better! Sun hats also should be tightly woven.

Tunic Tops:

Pretty, “boho” style beach cover-ups with long sleeves are a great way to save a person’s skin from being over exposed in a teeny-bikini. Tunic tops are not only perfect on the beach but also can transition from day to night when worn with the right accessories, like chunky bracelets, necklaces and belts.

Scarves:

Summery shawls and scarves in lightweight fabrics are back again this season.

“Women are usually pretty good about applying sunscreen to their face, but generally forget their necks and the ‘v’ of their chests. A light scarf is a great way to cover neglected skin that gets a lot of sun exposure during summer months,” said Chon.

One Piece Bathing Suits:

The new trend of one-piece bathing suits gives skin on the stomach an extra layer of protection. One-piece suits also provide more coverage of the lower back, an area often missed while applying sunscreen.

Maximize clothing’s sun protection power

“There are certain colours and fabrics that will offer more protection than others,” said Chon.

To maximize clothing’s skin cancer prevention powers, wear tightly woven, dark-coloured fabrics.

“You don’t need to wear special UPF clothing to get extra protection, just wear a sunscreen with SPF15 or higher under layers. It is absolutely possible to be fashion conscious and protect yourself from the sun. The trends on the runway this year offer more coverage. We love that! Said Chon. (ANI)

Humans are outliving their eyeballs, says expert

Wellington, Jan 7 (ANI): While people are living longer as a result of improved health standards, humans are starting to outlive their eyeballs, according to Australian researchers.

The researchers are working on ways to slow the way vision deteriorates with age.

Professor Jonathan Stone said that at birth each eyeball has about 150 million light-catching “photoreceptors”, which are lost at a rate of several hundred every day.

And a person”s vision deteriorates over time because of this very natural process.

The researchers said that while many people into their 80s still have 100 million-plus photoreceptors per eye, there are others for whom it means a loss of night vision or even blindness.

Stone said improved health standards has given a boost to longevity in humans, and thus new techniques were needed to slow down the winking out of these photoreceptors which cannot be regrown.

“The clinical evidence is the retina goes well really into your eighth decade (80 years), depending on how fast you”ve lost your photoreceptors and that changes because of genetic factors,” The NZPA quoted Stone as saying.

He added: “We”re exploring these environmental ways of stabilising these photoreceptors into the ninth and tenth decade … what this is all about is preserving that as long as possible into late age.”

Now, scientists are conducting research to better understand how antioxidants-rich foods help to protect eyes against light damage.

It is observed that people undergoing treatment in hyperbaric chambers can report a temporary side-effect of improved vision, and thus scientists are aiming towards finding out how the eye benefits from oxygen-rich environments.

Stone suggested that people over 20 years of age should always wear sunglasses when outdoors in bright light.

However, the same doesn’t hold true for adolescents, for they need light exposure while their eyes were developing to prevent the onset of near-sightedness, he said. (ANI)
