‘Beasted’ Broad backs ‘fearless’ England for Ashes, World Cup glory

London, June 11(ANI): England fast bowler Stuart Broad has said that he spent his time out of the national team on working on his fitness, and announced that he is now prepared for the Ashes and the World Cup.

Broad, who was dropped for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, was named in the 13-man ODI squad to play England in a five-match series.

“I’ve spent the last few weeks at Loughborough getting a serious beasting in the gym — it’s been knackering, but I feel stronger and have put on about a kilogram of muscle. This isn’t a short-term thing, this is so I am still going strong by the end of the Ashes in January and through to the World Cup,” The Sun quoted Broad, as saying.

“By being dropped for that reason, I at least have the confidence that I”m in the long-term plans,” he added.

The 23-year-old said that he was unhappy with the selectors’ decision to drop him for the Bangladesh Test series.

“It was a hard phone call to take when the selectors told me. They gave their reasons and were adamant it wasn”t form. So if I”m taking wickets during an Ashes win in Australia and the World Cup, it will have been worth it,” Broad said.

He further insisted that the current England one-day side is different from the one that lost 6-1 to Australia last summer.

“These five games against Australia this summer are important — it”s crucial we continue the momentum we”ve built up in one-day cricket. Now we back ourselves and each other to play fearless cricket. We look a different team and that”s why we won the World Twenty20,” Broad said.

“We want to keep beating Australia. We have the Ashes and won that Twenty20 final — it”s hugely important we keep getting these little things over them,” he added. (ANI)

Beer sale in Delhi touches 15 lakh mark in May

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) It is that time of the year when chilled beer brings good cheer. With Delhi reeling under scorching heat, beer shops are out to make hay while the sun shines — more than 15 lakh beer cases have been sold in May.

“A total of 15,228,29 beer cases were sold in last month in the capital,” said a senior excise official. Simply put, with each case containing 12 bottles, Delhi”s beer consumption should touch a new high this summer.

The sale of beer had touched 14,80,951 cases in April. While there is a growth of about 30 per cent in beer market, the Excise Department is hopeful of meeting the target of Rs 1700 crore in the current fiscal.

For those not familiar with the spirit of the season, Delhi has about 37 brands of beer in the light, strong and canned segment to choose from. “Though mild beer caters to a large part of the beer consumers, the strong beer sale is also picking up,” the official said adding, “there is also a market for canned beer.

” The sale of beer generally picks up from March and the demand peaks during May-June every year. The beer market in India, including Delhi, offers vast scope for growth, the official said.

Vettel, Webber clear the air following ‘disaster’ Turkish GP crash

London, June 4(ANI): Red Bull Formula One racing drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber have had clear-the-air talks following Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix ‘disaster’ collision.

The pair met with team bosses at their headquarters in Milton Keynes, and Vettel made the statement that both drivers are happy to continue to work together, The Sun reports.

The crash, a reprise of a collision between the two in Japan three years ago, came on the 40th lap when Vettel attempted to overtake Webber on the inside and then turned right into him.

Vettel spun out of the race, while Webber went on to take third place behind the McLaren pair of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Red Bull principal Christian Horner said the crash, which robbed them of a one-two finish, was simply an “unnecessary” racing accident, and added that all factions of the team believed both drivers were equally guilty of not giving each other enough room.

“Ultimately we win as a team and we lose as a team and on Sunday we lost as a team, as a result of our two drivers having an incident. Having looked at all the information it”s clear that it was a racing accident that shouldn”t have happened between two team-mates,” Horner said. (ANI)

England stars need to be at their best to win World Cup: Le Saux

London, May 21(ANI): Former England footballer Graeme Le Saux claims that every single member of the Three Lions’ squad will have to be at their best to win the World Cup.

“We’ve got a fantastic manager and some great players, so we just have to hope the whole squad combines and gels. It’s important that the players on the fringes of the first XI are in the right frame of mind to put in great performances when needed,” The Sun quoted Le Saux, as saying.

“If we’re going to be successful in South Africa, it’s clearly going to be about the squad and not just the regulars. I don’t think you can rely on one player,” he added.

The 41-year-old also believes that striker Wayne Rooney could be the difference, but Capello would not win matches without a system and a game plan.

“If it’s just about Rooney, then we won’t achieve anything — and that’s with no disrespect to him, quite the opposite in fact. He’s a key part of how we attack and score goals, but ultimately we’re going to need other players to chip in,” Le Saux said.

“And that in a sense is exactly what we have in the rest of the squad with the likes of Lampard and Gerrard. If you look at the other top teams, they all have great players, but there’s a fantastic team and structure around them,” he added. (ANI)
