Danish Prime Minister meets Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Sep. 11 (ANI): Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday.

The two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on co-operation between the governments of both the nations in the areas of environment.

Ole Lonsmann Poulsen, Denmark Ambassador to India and Vijay Sharma, Secretary to India’s federal Ministry of Forests and Environment signed the MoU in the presence of premiers of both the nations.

Danish Prime Minister’s two-day visit to New Delhi would also include meetings with the head of the UN climate panel Rajendra Pachauri.

Global talks for a new U.N. climate agreement have become mired in differences over how much money and technology rich nations will provide to poor countries to help seal a climate deal to replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012.

India fears that emissions targets will stunt its economic growth and has said it will take its own unilateral action to cut pollution. (ANI)

While last year, the ‘Scream’ star was quite upbeat about her stunts in the she-devil comic book adaptation, but now her injury has brought the production to a standstill.

“I had wrist and elbow surgery and they took part of my elbow out. I had really bad nerve damage from doing stunts – I do a lot of my own stunts,” Fox News quoted McGowan as saying.

“I could no longer use my arm, but now I can hold a fork and drive so we’re working our way up. It’ll probably be another six months of rehab, but It’s the price you pay for being really limber and being able to do back flips!” she added.

However, despite her Hollywood success, the 35-year-old actress had initially thought being an actress was a pretty pathetic profession.

“I wasn’t trying to be an actor, I was standing outside of a gym waiting for my friend to come out and this woman he knew kept saying, ‘She should be in this movie blah blah blah’ and I was like, ‘Gross, I don’t want to be an actor! Ew!’ and then I found out they would pay me enough money for a down payment on an apartment,” said McGowan.

“Otherwise I would have had to go back and live with dad in Seattle. The film, ‘The Doomed Generation,’ became this huge cult movie and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and I’ve been following the Yellow Brick Road ever since…” she added. (ANI)

Sikkim boy spreads awareness on social issues with motorbike stunts

Gayshing (Sikkim), Aug.27 (ANI): In a unique act, a 21-year-old man in Sikkim is spreading social awareness among youth against drug addiction, excessive drinking and on AIDS by performing various stunts on motorbike.

Milan Pradhan, stunt rider, fascinates large number of crowds as he performs various formidable stunts on motorbike.

All the time Pradhan is riding, popping wheelies or sometimes burning rubber.

He performed recently in Gayshing town of Sikkim with another stunt rider.

“I want to give the message to young boys that by doing stunts you can earn a very good name and ensure a bright future. You will get busy in some work. You will forget about drugs once you are busy. By sitting in a room and taking drugs will not achieve spoil your name but stunts will make your future,” says Milan Pradhan, stunt rider.

He says the young boys love motorcycling and if they could be drawn into stunt riding which needs a high level of fitness and concentration, it will keep youngsters busy in a constructive way and they will have less chances of getting into drug habits.

Pradhan is a college student. He devotes most of his time learning new motorbike driving skills in style, when he is not attending classes or doing assignments.

He tells that he started trying stunt-riding when he was in his early teenage. The family was hesitant to allow him try hand on motorbike stunts.

But Pradhan managed to convince them by showing his daredevil spirit, which helped him keep away from attracted to drugs.

His love for performing tricks on motorbike has led him to appear for the MTV ‘Stuntmania’ and now he wants to pursue stunt biking to a greater level.

Organisers of the event said that generally the youth are interested in fast life, which sometimes can trap them into drug-addiction and anti-social activities. Motorcycle race or stunt riding can give them alternatives that match with their fast life but in a positive way.

“Biking goes very well with the present-day youth. The youth are very interested in fast cars, fast bikes. And with the fast life comes the very possibility of getting drawn to drug addiction, alcoholism and also the fear of AIDS. So with the youth coming and watching such programmes… we want to motivate them towards like diverting their lifestyle or mind to constructive things,” said Anand, organiser of the bike stunt show.

Organisers say such events will go a long way in attracting the youth to stunts and thereby indirectly diverting their minds from drugs and alcoholism.

Sikkim is located in the foothills of the Himalayas and shares international borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. The northeastern belt, including Sikkim, has recently become a favourite transit point used by drug peddlers for smuggling drugs.

Malay temple trustees furious at semi-dressed praying woman’s pics

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 19 (ANI): Pictures of a semi-dressed young Caucasian woman supposedly praying at the Kek Lok Si Temple has left temple trustees furious.

The trustees have denied that the pictures, being circulated through an email, were shot inside their temple, and have claimed that it is the work of some mischievous people, who are trying to tarnish their name.

The 12 e-mail pictures show the young woman clad in a blouse and short skirt, exposing her panties and breasts while performing prayers.

Temple trustee Datuk Steven Ooi said that they were aware of the claims, but ruled out that the pictures were shot inside the temple.

“Someone is out to smear the good name of the temple, which is one of the state’s popular tourist attractions,” the Star Online quoted him as saying.

Ooi said that a comparison of the pictures with the temple’s internal and external features, including the Buddha statues, showed that they could not have been taken at the Kek Lok Si Temple.

“It is almost impossible for the woman to pull off such a stunt inside the temple because it is busy with visitors, nuns and monks most of the time,” he added.

Ooi said that the temple would not make a police report because they did not want to be dragged into a controversy. (ANI)

Footage of MJ’s fire accident that left him hooked on painkillers emerges

London, July 16 (ANI): Shocking footage showing a harrowing accident late King of Pop Michael Jackson had met with while he was shooting a commercial for Pepsi, which sparked the addiction to painkillers that ended up killing him, can be seen for the first time.

The pyrotechnics accident on January 27, 1984, had left the ‘Thriller’ star with second and third degree burns to his face and scalp.

Fireworks were supposed to explode behind Jackson was he strutted down the steps onto the stage at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium to sing his hit Billie Jean.

However, the stunt went tragically wrong on the sixth take, the pyrotechnics went off too early, and Jackson’s hair was set afire.

The singer had not realised what had happened for about five seconds, and he continued to dance until aides rushed on to extinguish the flames surrounding his head.

The accident started the late King of Pop’s dependency on the painkillers that were found swamping his system when he died three weeks ago.

Jackson’s scalp had to be operated on after the accident, and he had already admitted that he turned to painkillers to fight the pain.

People who have been very close to Jackson have revealed that the singer was never the same after the 1984 accident.

“His personality totally changed after that incident as drugs began to influence his life,” the Sun quoted one as saying.

“He was 25 and full of life before then but after that everything changed.

“If it wasn’t for that sad day, things could have been so different,” the source added.

Following the accident, Jackson had even set up a burns centre for children.

In an US chatshow host Oprah Winfrey in 1993, he said: “I did a commercial for Pepsi and I was burned very badly and we settled for 1million dollars and I gave all the money … like, we built this place called the Michael Jackson Burn Centre.” (ANI)

Scottish man sets new world by running 259 ft with body set on fire

London, July 06 (ANI): A Scottish man slammed the previous world record of running 227ft with body set on fire by sprinting 259 ft.

Keith Malcolm, from Aberdeen, succeeded in his second attempt to break the record after he fell 40ft short of the record in his previous attempt in May.

The amateur stuntman, who now lives in Widley near Portsmouth, Hants, wore eight layers of protective clothing, including four layers of fireproof undergarments, a Formula One fireproof jacket and three overalls to avoid any harm.
He protected his head with three fire hoods and a helmet apart from coating himself in special protective “stunt gel” to save himself from flames that approximately reached 1000 degree Celsius.

“It was absolutely awesome. I managed it in 17 seconds and was running flat-out. I really did not want to hang around,” the Telegraph quoted Malcolm as saying.

“There wasn’t much left of the jacket at the end. To be honest, the heat I felt was what you would expect if you were wearing all those clothes and a helmet in hot weather and trying to run.

However, team of experts from Hampshire Fire and Rescue were at hand in case any accident had occurred.

The new world record was set at the Alton and North East Hampshire Agricultural Show, which aimed at raising money for Cancer Research. (ANI)

Kumar’s latest film ‘Kambakkhat Ishq’, where he plays a Hollywood stunt also features ‘Superman’ star Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.

“He was telling me about his knees and I told him that I was doing yoga to help my back, which was broken. He told me that he was not great with heights, but he still did Cliffhanger, and about how careful they are in Hollywood,” he added.

Kumar, who has also worked with Kylie Minogue in Bollywood film ‘Blue’, has all praised the pop diva.

“I like the way she adapted herself to Bollywood,” the Guardian quoted him as saying.

Vladimir Putin issues ‘diktat’ on cost of sausages in Russia!

London, June 26 (ANI): Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin recently visited a Moscow supermarket and pointed out that the sausages were too expensive.

In an impromptu visit to a branch of supermarket chain Perekrestok, Putin expressed his annoyance with the high price of packet of sausages, The Telegraph reports.

Rounding on Yuri Kobaladze, the chain’s head of corporate relations, Putin demanded: “Why do your sausages cost 240 roubles? Is that normal?”

“But these are high quality sausages,” Kobaladze replied.

With a look of relief crossing his face, the executive spotted some cheaper sausages.

“Look, these ones are just 49 roubles,” he said.ut the leader was not to be deterred.

“Too expensive,” he muttered, before conjuring up a price list from his pocket. “I can show you your mark up. Look at this kind of sausage. You’ve marked it up by 52 per cent.”

Putin did not stop there, he further said: “This is double the (cost) price, Is this normal?”

“Is 120 per cent a high mark up?” Kobaladze responded.

“Very high,” Putin said.

“It will be lowered tomorrow,” the executive replied.

In growing recession, Putin’s stunt seemingly comes across as an effort to make people understand his commitment towards fighting inflation, which is at a high 14 percent presently in Russia. (ANI)

Victoria footie club under probe for stripper’s act

Melbourne, May 18 (ANI): In the latest sex drama to engulf the sporting world, the Prahran Football Club is under investigation for hiring a stripper to perform for the team minutes before a game.

The management of the club has been ordered to appear before the Victorian Amateur Football Association’s integrity sub-committee tonight to explain the sordid stunt.

The change-room strip show has angered women’s lobby groups and is set to turn the spotlight on Aussie Rules after rugby league’s week of shame, reports the Herald Sun.

The Premier of the Australian state of Victoria, John Brumby, wants the football club at the centre of the strip shame to apologise.

“It’s just an appalling example to set young people and to set families. It’s just completely inappropriate behaviour and one of the things that we’re trying to do in Victoria is encourage young people to play sport, to take up sport and you open the paper today and you read about a football club that got a stripper in before a game, it’s absolutely, completely unacceptable and inappropriate and it sends all the wrong messages,” the paper quoted Brumby, as saying.

Prahran Club XVIII coach Craig Berger said a former player organised the stripper to perform about 30 minutes before a night match against St Bernard’s on May 1.

“One of the past players set it up to gee up some of the blokes who were struggling a bit, to stir them up a bit,” he said.

Berger said he first became aware of the stunt when the stripper came into the trainers’ room.

“The stripper came in and I heard some noise (in the change room) and she was asking for music,” Berger said.

“I walked in, and when I realised what was going on, I said, ‘What’s going on here?’ and then left the room. They (the players) were fully aware that I wasn’t happy about it. I think she was only there for a couple of minutes. Only a couple of the guys actually knew about it . . . it didn’t last long at all because they knew I wasn’t happy about it,” Berger added.

The incident happened at Elsternwick Park, the VAFA’s administrative headquarters.

VAFA chief executive Michael Sholly said representatives from the club, including Berger, would be asked to explain tonight.

Prahran could be charged with conduct unbecoming a member of the association. (ANI)

White House aide loses job over Manhattan flyover fiasco

Washington, May 9 (ANI): The White House aide who authorized the controversial Air Force One photo-op flight last week around the Statue of Liberty is out of a job.

President Obama has accepted the resignation of Louis Caldera, the director of the White House Military Office, the Daily News learned Friday.

A secretary of the Army in the Clinton administration, Caldera took the fall for the public relations fiasco arising from the April 27 flyover, which was designed to replace a publicity photo of Air Force One flying past Mount Rushmore with a similar shot of Obama’s 747 jumbo jet over the Statue of Liberty.

The photo session cost taxpayers 329,000 dollars.

Caldera’s office insisted the flyover was a “classified” mission and should not be disclosed to the public, ensuring that thousands of New Yorkers would be blindsided by an event eerily reminiscent of the 9/11 terror attacks against the Twin Towers.

Federal officials notified Mayor Bloomberg’s office and NYPD officials in advance, but Bloomberg was not informed, infuriating the mayor.

Caldera shoulders the blame in deputy White House chief of staff Jim Messina’s review into how the decision was made to go ahead with the photo mission.

Many White House officials were angry at Caldera over the stunt. Defense Secretary Robert Gates apologized for the flyover in a letter Tuesday to Senator John McCain, who posted the memo on his Senate Web site Friday. (ANI)

They even sent her on a shopping trip, and then phoned the Albertina posing as her management to arrange an exclusive visit.

Andrea Hilber, marketing manager at Kronehit Radio, has confirmed the station was responsible for the stunt.

“We’ll call the Albertina to say we meant no harm. It was a great museum tour,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. (ANI)

Mia Farrow took hunger strike tips from magician David Blaine

Washington, Apr 30 (ANI): Hollywood actress Mia Farrow has revealed that magician David Blaine gave her some tips on how to endure her hunger strike for Darfur.

The 64-year-old actress, who is three days into her own starvation stunt, admits her mind is feeling “muddled and swimming”.

Farrow said that she is getting advice from Blaine, who survived 44 days without food, while suspended in a perspex box above London, back in 2003.

“Before I began this fast David Blaine (magician and endurance artist) called me. So kind of him,” Contactmusic quoted her as writing on her blog.

“He told me a little about how to prepare and what to expect. He said after six days I won’t feel hunger. He told me to drink four litres of water. Do you know how much water that is!” she added. (ANI)

Mia Farrow bulks up to prepare for starvation stunt

Washington, April 24 (ANI): Mia Farrow has bulked up in a bid to prepare for a three-week fast, which has been planned to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan.

The actress will begin her water only strike from the end of April (09), despite doctors fears she could cause irreversible damage to her body.

Farrow has admitted that she’s a ‘little bit’ scared about going on the strike, but has gained weight to help her body cope with 21 days without food.

“I gained nine pounds. That is about as much as I could gain in a month because I know I am going to lose a fourth of my body mass. But that will quickly go. I am just eating fruit and vegetables this week and I am reading certain things and spending time with my kids, trying to be quiet, because among other things it is a very personal and spiritual journey,” Contactmusic quoted Farrow, as telling People.

“I’m taking vitamins this week, but when I wake up on Monday, April 27, it will be strictly water,” she added.

Farrow also admitted that the strike may not last the full three weeks – because of her small frame.

“I am going to try for three weeks. Given my weight, that may not come to pass. I am going to get my blood tested after two weeks and if there is organ damage, I will have to stop. But my goal is three weeks,” she said.

“I won’t be able to go to the doctor at that point, someone is going to have to come to the house and give me a blood test,” she added. (ANI)
