Rihanna does a poppet on string in see-through net dress

London, September 19 (ANI): Singer Rihanna did a poppet on a string while sporting a see-through black net dress.

The R-B lady was seen maintaining her balance on a trapeze with ease as she hung in mid-air.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old’s former beau Chris Brown has been juggling life after starting community service for assaulting her, reports the Sun.

Brown assaulted Rihanna after getting into an argument as they left a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles this February.

The shamed star was ordered 180 days community labor for the brutal attack, a year of domestic violence counselling and put on probation for the next five years. (ANI)

Qaeda-backed LeT set for series of terror attacks in India, warns Israel’s NSC

Tel Aviv, Sep.18 (ANI): Israel’s National Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau has issued a terror warning for India, saying a Pakistani terror group, having close links with Al-Qaeda, is planning to carry out series of strikes across the country.

“A Pakistani terror organization affiliated with al-Qaida and responsible for the attacks in Mumbai last year is planning to carry out a string of attacks throughout the Indian subcontinent,” the notice issued by the bureau stated.

The warning said that though foreigners, especially from western countries could be targeted, and that Israelis and places where Israelis usually assemble in large numbers are on top of the terror outfit’s hit list.

The bureau rated the threat as ‘imminent and concrete’ and emphasized on the Jammu and Kashmir region, The Jerusalem Post reported.

This is probably the first time that such a warning has been issued regarding threat to Israelis in India, as India is considered a friendly country with thousands of Israelis living in different part of the nation. (ANI)

UK fitness TV teaches bhangra workout class!

London, September 17 (ANI): A new British TV station, dedicated entirely to fitness, is offering a string of classes, including those on Bhangra.

The Fitness TV, a 24-hour station, also hosts a high heel workout class for the women who refuse to get out of their beloved stilettos. Other workouts include those based on Salsa, Hip Hop and Disco.

“Just like a personal trainer, the channel allows viewers to tailor workouts to their own levels of fitness and interests and can be easily scheduled around busy lives,” the Sun quoted a spokesman for the TV shows as saying.

“Programmes range from children’s classes including a mobility and balance workout for pre-schoolers, kids’ yoga and street dance for teenagers, while pensioners and the less mobile are offered Chairobics.

“For the more adventurous, there are boot camp-style workouts and dance-based exercise sessions for Strictly Come Dancing fans, including Bhangra, Cheerleader and 70s Disco.

“There’s even a High Heels workout for more glamorous viewers,” the spokesman added.

Fitness TV founder Luan Underwood, a former personal trainer and mum-of-two, said: “We are positioning the channel as an additional workout option, not as a replacement to gyms, fitness and wellbeing classes.

“We would like to capture the imagination of the 80 per cent of UK citizens that have never visited a gym and inspire them to do so.

“We also aim to reach people unable to visit fitness facilities, perhaps because they have young children, or time pressures that make it difficult to get to the gym for a few weeks.

“With Fitness TV, people can squeeze in a session at a time to suit them, and because the classes are constantly being updated, they’ll be more motivated to stick to them than they would an exercise DVD,” Underwood added. (ANI)

Lady GaGa nips out in racy see-through lace catsuit at NY fashion week

London, September 16 (ANI): Lady GaGa continued her shock tactics as she stepped out in a bizarre see-through red lace catsuit teamed up with eye mask and eccentric spiky hair piece at the New York fashion week.

The singer’s modesty was said to be hardly covered by a barely there red G-string and an almost-strategically placed ruffle on her costume.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old recently gave a blood-covered performance and faked her own death at the MTV Video Music Awards, during which she changed her outfit five times, reports the Daily Mail.

However, the ‘Poker Face’ hitmaker’s appearance was said to be a little toned down at the Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2010 fashion show after party, where she bumped into fellow ‘shocker’ Madonna.

Madonna admitted she was “very flattered” by comparisons to the newcomer.

The Queen of Pop complimented the star, saying: “She looks like she’s going to a carnival in Venice, very beautiful.” (ANI)

‘Mysterious messages’ penned by MJ in final hours emerge

London, September 13 (ANI): A string of messages penned by Michael Jackson in his final hours have come to light.

Post-its notes and sheets of paper, scribbled as “wishes for the world” have reportedly been found on the mirror in the late singer’s bathroom.

The notes allegedly show the King of Pop’s bizarre state of mind before he died of drug addiction on June 25, reports the News of the World.

Pals of the singer believe Jackson was using the notes as means to prepare himself for his comeback concerts in London.

Note number one, found on the right of Jackson’s gold-framed mirror, apparently read: “I am so grateful that I am a magnet for miracles.”

Note number two, pinned to the bottom of the mirror, a message in large handwriting said: “Love, no violence ever!” And underneath, in smaller handwriting, he had added: “Remember a beautiful future promise of tomorrow.”

Note number three was a startling reminder to perform the hit charity single he recorded with soul legend Lionel Ritchie in 1985, saying: “Do We Are The World in show”.

Note number four read “Call Temperton”, referring to British songwriter and producer Rod Temperton, who co-wrote several Jackson songs including Thriller and Rock With You.

A source said: “It’s worrying that he had to write reminders about things as obvious as these while he was rehearsing for his tour…But the drugs he was taking obviously had a huge impact on his mind and memory.” (ANI)

Ancient Egyptian temples followed astronomy to set their calendars

London, September 9 (ANI): A new study has indicated that ancient Egyptian temples were aligned so precisely with astronomical events that people could set their political, economic and religious calendars by them.

According to a report in New Scientist, the study was of 650 temples, some dating back to 3000 BC.

For example, New Year coincided with the moment that the winter-solstice sun hit the central sanctuary of the Karnak temple in present-day Luxor, according to archaeological astronomer Juan Belmonte of the Canaries Astrophysical Institute in Tenerife, Spain.

Hieroglyphs on temple walls have hinted at the use of astronomy in temple architecture, including depictions of the “stretching of the cord” ceremony in which the pharaoh marked out the alignment for the temple with string.

But there had been little evidence to support the drawings.

Belmonte and Mosalam Shaltout of the Helwan Observatory in Cairo found that the temples are all aligned according to an astronomically significant event, such as a solstice or equinox, or the rising of Sirius, the brightest star in the sky.

“Somebody would have had to go to the prospective site during a solar, stellar or lunar event – as we did – to mark out the position that the temple axis should take,” Belmonte said.

“For the most important temples, this may well have been the pharaoh, as the temple drawings show,” he added. (ANI)

Are Evan Rachel Wood and Alexander Skarsgard an item?

Washington, Sep 8 (ANI): American actress Evan Rachel Wood is reportedly dating her ‘True Blood’ co-star Alexander Skarsgard.

According to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Wood, 22, had recently been linked to E.R. actor Shane West, but is said to have moved on to Swedish actor Skarsgard, 33, after meeting him on the set of the hit vampire TV show, reports Contactmusic.

The pair have been spotted enjoying a string of dates, including a soccer match and a boat trip.

Wood even jetted into Louisiana over the weekend to keep the actor company during breaks from filming the ‘Straw Dogs’ remake. (ANI)

Jailed Tweed on suicide watch

London, September 8 (ANI): Jailed rape suspect Jack Tweed has been on suicide watch after reportedly telling doctors, “If I had a gun I’d kill myself.”

Jade Goody’s widower, who is allegedly being kept in segregation, was said to have received a string of abuse and threats from other inmates at Pentonville jail in London.

“He has been put on an unusually tight watch and has to be checked on every 20 minutes which is virtually unheard of,” the Mirror quoted an insider as saying.

“He told psychiatrists he wanted to end it all. He is very depressed. If the mental health team are invoking that kind of thing it means they take his threat very seriously,” the insider added.

The 22-year-old is behind bars after a 19-year-old clubber claimed he raped her as his pal joined in.

Tweed is said to have attacked the girl at a party at his home after inviting the teenager and two of her female friends back to his rented house from a London nightspot in the early hours. (ANI)

510-year-old church in Newfoundland may be New World’s oldest Christian site

Ottawa, September 7 (ANI): In a new project, a team of archeologists is planning to search for the remains of a 510-year-old church on the western shore of Conception Bay, Newfoundland, which may be the oldest Christian site in the New World.

According to a report in the National Post, the project is aimed at adding to a string of recent discoveries about explorer John Cabot’s history-making voyages to Canada in the late 15th century.

The recent emergence of new evidence about Cabot’s voyages, including potentially “revolutionary” findings by the late British historian Alwyn Ruddock, has renewed interest in England’s earliest New World ventures during the reign of King Henry VII.

Canwest News Service recently revealed a researcher’s discovery of a 1499 letter in which Henry VII himself describes a previously unknown expedition to Canada headed by William Weston, a Bristol merchant who is finally emerging – five centuries after his death – as a key backer of Cabot’s quest to establish an English foothold in North America.

The king’s letter also contained the earliest known use of the phrase “new founde land” to describe Canada’s easternmost province, which Cabot is believed to have reached in June 1497 – the first European landfall in North America since the age of the Vikings.

Bizarrely, the recent spate of revelations from the dawning days of Canadian history follows Prof. Ruddock’s order – carried out by the executors of her will after she died in 2005 — that her unpublished research be destroyed.

But, through a project headed by University of Bristol historian Evan Jones, Prof. Pope and other scholars are combing through a small collection of Prof. Ruddock documents that survived destruction and may point the way to fresh discoveries – including the suspected Catholic mission at Carbonear.

In the outline for a book she never completed, Prof. Ruddock claimed to have found documents detailing the establishment of a church at Carbonear.

Historians generally believe Cabot perished during the voyage, and little was accomplished by any of the ships involved in the expedition.

But Prof. Ruddock’s sketchy references to a New World church built as early as 1498 has electrified Prof. Jones and other researchers.

“If she were correct, this would be the first European Christian settlement in North America, with the church Prof. Ruddock mentions being the first built on the continent,” said Jones. (ANI)

Singaporean teen, 19, sells herself on net to pay for mum’s treatment

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 2 (ANI): A 19-year-old girl has been forced to put herself online for sale in a bid to collect money for her terminally ill mother.

Christine wrote that she hoped to find a man in his 30s and was willing to provide him sexual services if he paid for her mother’s medical fees.

She also said that her mother was terminally ill and in need of “a lot of money”.

She also promised that she wouldn’t disappoint anyone interested in her offer.

Rumer wants to work with parents Bruce Willis, Demi Moore

Washington, Aug 29 (ANI): Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter Rumer Willis wants to do a movie with her parents.

The 21-year-old, who has earlier starred with actress mum in 1996 film Striptease, and with her dad in The Whole Nine Yards in 2000 and in 2005′s Hostage, wants to work with her parents in a challenging role.

She has also worked in a string of movies, including upcoming horror remake Sorority Row, and filming a role in teen TV show 90210.

“Sometimes I think we helped each other by playing opposite each other,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“When my dad has to do a super-emotional scene, he looks at a picture of us to find the emotion. Playing his kidnapped daughter in Hostage meant he didn’t have to look at the picture to get kind of tearful.

“I’d love to work with my parents again, now that I’m older. I’d love to play someone other than their daughter,” she added. (ANI)

Fashion may have emerged 80,000 years ago in form of shell beads

London, August 28 (ANI): A new study by an international team of researchers from France, South Africa, Germany, Israel and the UK has confirmed that 80,000-year-old shell beads found in caves in North Africa represent some of the earliest evidence of the use of personal ornamentation, which also points to the dawn of modern human behaviour.

According to a report carried out by the Planet Earth Online, the beads provide evidence that the people alive at the time were acting much like modern humans.

“There is a problem with linking anatomically modern humans with behaviourally modern humans,” said Professor Nick Barton of the University of Oxford UK, and one of the authors of the study. “These people may have looked like us, but were they behaving the same?” he added.

The presence of the beads suggests the people who made and wore them behaved in ways we would recognize.

Using symbolic items like shell beads to communicate ideas about the wearer requires skills found only in modern humans, including a well-developed language and the ability to use abstract concepts.

The researchers analyzed 25 beads from four sites in North Africa from the Middle Palaeolithic period.

The beads, consisting of the shells of sea snails called Nassarius, had been transported some distance from the marine environment in which they’re usually found, and showed evidence of deliberate alterations.

“We found evidence they had been strung together as in a necklace or bracelet,” said Barton.

The shells had been deliberately perforated using stone tools and the researchers found distinctive wear patterns which suggested they had been rubbing together.

Wear marks around the perforations indicated the shells had been threaded on a string.

Several had also been covered with a pigment called red ochre and one shell showed evidence of heating, possibly to alter its colour.

As to what purpose the coloured beads served, Barton said, “What they were signalling, we’re not entirely sure. Possibly, they were an insurance policy, if you had shared access to certain resources and wanted to identify yourself to members of another group.”

The beads may also have let wearers identify members of the same social group, preventing unnecessary conflicts.

Alternatively, the beads might have provided personal information about the wearer, such as the wearer’s position in the social hierarchy, or that they had passed through puberty and into adulthood.

These beads might have also represented the origins of today’s fashions. (ANI)

Flintoff set to quit Test cricket after Ashes

London, July 15 (ANI): England all rounder Andrew Flintoff is ready to quit Test cricket at the end of this Ashes series.

Flintoff, who has been afflicted with constant injuries, wants to quit five-day matches to prolong his career for England as an ODI and Twenty20 player.

The all-rounder, 31, fears his body will no longer take playing all forms of the game. Flintoff’s displays have dipped since his 2005 Ashes heroics, after a string of injuries and operations.

He will today bowl in the nets to try to prove his fitness in order to play in the second Test against Australia at Lord’s tomorrow.

Flintoff’s inclusion is doubtful after aggravating the right knee on which he had surgery in April, The Sun reports.

Flintoff has undergone four ankle operations as well as suffering back, hip, shoulder and groin problems. And he knows his days as England’s star in Test cricket are numbered because of the physical strain of bowling.

Flintoff, a father of three, also does not want to leave his family for months on end. In the past, he has taken wife Rachael and his kids on tour, but that has become tough as they have reached school age.

He plans to play in ODIs and T20 games, as well as keep his lucrative contract with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. (ANI)

Jessica Taylor eager to spend time with cricketer hubby Kevin Pietersen

London, July 13 (ANI): Cricket star Kevin Pietersen’s wife Jessica Taylor is looking forward to spending the summer with her husband, after having spent 11 weeks apart.

The couple have vowed never spend time apart again, after they were separated for nearly three months as Jessica competed in ‘Dancing On Ice’ earlier this year, while Kevin was playing a Test series in the West Indies.

While thousands of miles apart, the duo kept in touch via Skype.

“In an ideal world, that would never have happened. We’d always be together if we could but we decided to go with it because that’s how things worked out. But we don’t want to do it again,” the Mirror quoted Jessica, the former ‘Liberty X’ singer, as saying.

She is now set to spend a long, hot summer with her man, while he plays the Ashes series against England.

“I’m so excited about this summer. I’m going to be at the Ashes pretty much all the time – there are five Tests all over the country right through the summer,” she said.

She added: “But I really love it, especially because I want to spend some proper time with Kevin.”

Before the Ashes, Jessica managed to squeeze in a super-sexy modelling assignment for Tesco’s lingerie brand Diamond Boutique.

“It’s another string to my bow, I guess, and I really enjoyed it. The pictures look fantastic.”n fact, she’s now waiting for Kevin’s reaction, saying: “I’m excited that Kevin and all my friends and family will get to see them.” (ANI)

Israel says it is clueless about US deadline on settlement freeze

Jerusalem, July 12 (ANI): Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon has said the Benjamin Netanyahu government has no knowledge of any six-month deadline given by the US for freezing settlement construction in the West Bank.

“We have no knowledge of this whatsoever,” The Jerusalem Post quoted Ayalon, as saying.

Earlier a Lebanon daily had quoted French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, as saying that if Israel failed to stop all Jewish construction in the West Bank within six-months, the US would end support for peace talks.

Kouchner reportedly expressed his fear that Israel’s “stubbornness, intentional foot-dragging and acquiescence to the Israel lobby” would convince the Americans to pull out of peace discussions altogether.

The French foreign minister was in Beirut on Friday for talks with senior Lebanese officials, including Hizbullah legislator Nawaf Musawi.

The meeting with Musawi was aimed at facilitating a new coalition government led by Prime Minister-designate Sa’ad Hariri. Hariri’s government is likely to include Hizbullah representation, though the Shi’ite group was defeated in national parliamentary elections.

Israel is opposed to Hizbullah joining the government.

Netanyahu’s advisor Mark Regev responded to the Kouchner-Musawi meeting by warning that “if Hizbullah joins the Lebanese government, then Lebanon as a country will be responsible for any Hizbullah aggression against Israel. That has to be clear.”

Kouchner’s meeting with a Hizbullah lawmaker is the latest in a string of European meetings with the group, which the US and the European parliament have recognized as a terrorist organization.

“Hizbullah is part of the parties that participated in the recent parliamentary elections. It is natural to meet with its representatives,” Kouchner told reporters.

“Lebanon is a democratic country; democracy implies we meet with opposition figures as well.” (ANI)

Duncan James admits being a bisexual

London, July 12 (ANI): Boy band Blue’s Duncan James has come out of the closet to admit that he is a bisexual.

“I was living a secret life. I went through a process of asking what the f*** am I?Am I gay? Am I straight? Am I bi? That’s why I was so frightened about talking. Now, in my early 30s, I know who I am and I’m proud of who I am. I don’t want to hide anymore,” the News of the World quoted him as saying.

The news is expected to shock the pop star’s female fans all over the world.

However, it took a lot of guts for the star to open up about his sexuality.

He said: “I’d never talked to my mum about sex and relationships. It was quite a taboo subject because we came from a Catholic upbringing.

“One night towards the end of the trip, I knocked on my mum’s door before she went to bed. I was looking down and avoiding her eyes. I said, ‘I need to talk to you’.

“She said, ‘Oh my God, what’s wrong, are you all right?’

“I responded, ‘I need to tell you something. I’ve been in a relationship with a guy and I’m really confused about it. I haven’t been able to talk to anyone for a couple of years.’

“She hugged me and couldn’t believe it. She said, ‘I thought you were going to tell me you were dying or something. Hundreds of people have had things with guys as well as girls. I love you, that doesn’t matter to me.’

The singer then went on to disclose it to his band members who supported him.

He added: “I told Simon first. He went straight away, ‘Is that all you’re worried about? I love you man. That’s cool. You’re not alone. It doesn’t change anything for us.’

“I spoke to Lee next then Ant. They were really supportive too. After that I actually felt quite comfortable with myself.”

He had his first relationship with a person of the same sex in 2001, the year the band were celebrating their first three No1 hits – All Rise, Too Close and If You Come Back.

He said: “I’d never been intimate with a man. I’d been quite happy having girlfriends.

“But I met a guy. He was my friend at first but we took the friendship to the next level.

“Up until that point I’d never had those feelings towards a guy before. But this person came into my life and put a spanner in the works. I definitely loved him. It was my first experience like that.

Duncan still likes women, he added: “I can still look at women now and think they’re sexy.

I love being intimate with a woman, I love breasts. I do think girls can be a lot more emotional.”

James, who was looked at as a womanizer until now, has a four-year-old daughter, Tianie-Finne James with former girlfriend Claire Granger.

He has been to linked a string of women in the past including Geri Halliwell, Tara Palmer Tomkinson, Martine McCutcheon and ex-Big Brother winner Kate Lawler. (ANI)

IndiaMART.com registers 40 percent growth in recession time

New Delhi, July 9 (ANI/Business Wire India): IndiaMART.com registered an impressive growth of 40 per cent in revenues for 2008-2009 despite an economic downturn. he growth in revenues has also been backed by a robust 52 per cent growth in supplier registrations.

“Our numbers speak for themselves, While the whole world is busy hiding behind words like recession and economic downturn to conceal their poor performance, our teams have strived hard to keep the winning streak going,” said a beaming Dinesh Agarwal, CEO and Founder of IndiaMART.com.

Agarwal feels the steep rise in registrations is clearly indicative of recessionary pressure on entrepreneurs to make do with show string marketing budgets, which naturally pushes them to seek online marketing as the most credible and effective option. As the market leader, IndiaMART is always keen to take on path breaking initiatives to sensitize SMEs about online marketing and adoption of technology through events, trade shows and conferences.

IndiaMART.com has been ranked India’s No. 1 online B2B marketplace by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in its recent study done on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) usage among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The independent market research, with special focus on online B2B marketplaces, accords over 85 per cent preference for IndiaMART among B2B suppliers who go online, and who were interviewed by IAMAI. The study also states a 60 per cent market share for IndiaMART.com in India.

IndiaMART.com received its first round of private equity investment from Intel Capital earlier this year. Bennet Coleman and Co Ltd, publishers of The Times of India and The Economic Times, also have a stake in IndiaMART as a private treaty partner. (ANI)

Spider that makes life-sized decoys of itself to escape predators identified

London, July 7 (ANI): Scientists have identified a species of spider that builds models of itself that it uses as decoys to distract predators, which may be the first example of an animal building a life-size replica of its own body.

Many animals try to divert the attentions of predators by becoming masters of disguise.

Some try to avoid being seen altogether by using camouflage to blend in against a background, such as the peppered moth evolving motley wings that blend into tree bark, or stick insects that look like sticks.

Others evolve more conspicuous ornaments designed to distract a predator, such as butterflies that grow large eyespots or lizards that quickly move colourful tails, which they detach from their bodies if grabbed.

But, animals do not tend to actually build life-like replica models of themselves to act as decoys.

According to a report by BBC News, that is exactly what a species of orb spider called Cyclosa mulmeinensis does, biologists Ling Tseng and I-Min Tso of Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan, have discovered.

This and other related spiders in the same genus decorate their webs with material such as detritus, plant parts, prey remains or egg sacs.

Because such detritus is often of a similar colour to the spider, researchers suspected it might help camouflage the arachnid.

Cyclosa mulmeinensis, which lives on Orchid Island off the southeast coast of Taiwan, decorates its web with both the remains of dead insect prey and egg sacs.

Intriguingly, the spiders make prey pellets and egg sacs that were the same size as its own body.

The researchers also found that these decorations appeared to wasps to be the same colour, and reflect light in the same way, as the spider’s body.

In short, the spider made decorations that were of the same size, shape and appearance as itself.

“Our results show that this vulnerable spider protects itself from predator attacks by constructing decoys that increase the conspicuousness of the web, and resemble its own appearance in size and colour,” according to the researchers.

“When both spiders and web decorations are present on the same web, they look like a string of nearly identical oval objects to the predators,” said Tso.

“I don’t know of any animal that actively builds a decoy of itself. Our study seems to be the first to empirically demonstrate the function of animal-made decoys,” he added. (ANI)
