two new cruise ferries for Fjord Line, are now resolved. The contract for construction

How to tackle emotional eating

Washington, May 5 (ANI): Many people treat themselves with their favourite chocolate bars, or ice cream after returning home from a hard day at work, completely ignoring the fact that they are on a diet. The long-term success of their efforts is therefore sabotaged by their own hand, and very few weight-loss programs address this problem.

A new study shows that the key issue is providing people who usually eat to calm their emotions with other means of calming themselves, and getting a grip on how they feel, other than food.

Given that most of those who are on a diet don”t even know they have this problem, coping with emotions is done automatically when the need arises, through indulging in foods that are forbidden during diet.

Researchers at the Temple University Center for Obesity Research are currently trying to find the answers to these problems. They believe that progress in this area could allow for more people to succeed in losing unwanted weight.

The new treatment incorporates skills that directly address the emotional eating, and essentially adds those skills to a state-of-the art behavioural weight loss treatment.

“The problem that we”re trying to address is that the success rates for long-term weight loss are not as good as we would like them to be,” said Edie Goldbacher, a postdoctoral fellow at CORE.

“Emotional eating may be one reason why people don”t do as well in behavioral weight loss groups, because these groups don”t address emotional eating or any of its contributing factors,” Goldbacher added. (ANI)

Kalmadi guarantees CoCom members of significant development

New Delhi, May 3 (ANI): The Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC), Suresh Kalmadi, on Monday assured the members of the Coordination Commission (CoCom) of the Commonwealth Games Federation that significant progress has been made in all areas towards successfully hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The committee would itself witness the considerable progress in all areas since their last visit in December 2009, said Kalmadi in his inaugural address at the opening session of the CoCom meeting here, chaired by its President Austin Sealy.

“A lot of progress has taken place since the previous CoCom visit. The city of Delhi will be ahead by 10 years in terms of modern state of the art infrastructure and stadiums,” said Kalmadi.

“I am thankful for all the support and guidance that CoCom has extended to our team and their pledge to continue to support the organising committee in successful organisation of Delhi Games,” he added.

Kalmadi further said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has showing interest in the build-up to the Games and had organised the meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) to take stock of the entire efforts.

Austin Sealy praised the efforts of Kalmadi and said: “I have toured the venues including the main press centre and broadcasting centre and found them good.”

Earlier in December last year, the seven-member CoCom delegation had reviewed New Delhi”s preparation for the mega event. (ANI)

Agreement reached on ambulance station site

After a lengthy campaign by the Health Services Union, agreement has finally been reached on a site for a new ambulance station at Cessnock.

In its 2007 election policies, the State Government promised to build new stations at Nelson Bay and Cessnock.

The union’s Hunter representative, Peter Rumball, says after a long fight to get funding for the two stations, he is hopeful both can be operational by the end of the year.

“Nelson Bay’s up and running, we’ve got that out for tender at the moment and Cessnock station we’re just waiting on a land transfer between ambulance and health,” he said.

“Both of those stations are basically dilapidated old humpies and these new stations will give state-of-the-art equipment to the officers and able to make a better response because they’re in the right places.”

Lineker’s new bride splashed £2k to fix ‘Bux Bunny’ teeth!

London, September 6 (ANI): Gary Lineker’s new bride Danielle Bux reportedly splashed out 2,000 pounds to transform her smile for the wedding day.

The lingerie model was said to have gone in for the treatment after being joked about her “Bux Bunny” teeth.

The mum-of-one purportedly paid 1,500 pounds for state-of-the-art Invisalign braces and another 500-pounds on teeth whitening.

“She’s delighted at the results and thinks it was definitely worth it,” News of the World quoted a source close to Danielle as saying.

The source added: “She went for Invisalign so they would straighten her teeth without being visible.

“The braces were pretty awkward for her at first but she got used to them. And she got her teeth whitened like many brides do – to make them sparkle for her big day.” (ANI)

2,500-pound machine strapped around Flintoof’s knee to save his cricket career

London, Aug 30 (ANI): England all rounder Andrew Flintoff is praying that the 2,500 pound machine strapped around his knee will save his cricket career.

The Lancashire all-rounder has to strap himself to the contraption for eight hours every day as he starts his gruelling rehabilitation from his latest operation.

The state-of-the-art Continuous Passive Motion equipment was prescribed by surgeon Andy Williams and is designed to bend the 31-year-old Ashes hero’s knee up to 1,500 times a day, News of the World reported.

“I had a choice of either using this machine or doing three sets of 500 knee bends a day, so I thought the machine might be the way forward. I strap my leg into it for eight hours a day. It bends my knee up and down all the time and makes sure the movement is controlled,” Flintoff revealed.

“I will have the machine on most of the time, even when I’m sleeping. The hard part is getting used to having your leg strapped into a machine for most of the day. It’s designed to help with the healing but, inevitably, my right leg is going to waste away a bit and the muscles are going to disappear. There’s not a lot I can do about it because I can’t bear any weight on my right leg for six to eight weeks.”

Flintoff underwent keyhole surgery in London on Monday night – just a day after helping England beat Australia at the Oval to regain the Ashes.

It was the second op on his troublesome knee and the ninth of his career, following four on his left ankle, two for hernias and another on his back.

Flintoff announced his retirement from Test cricket during the Ashes after admitting his 16-stone body could no longer cope with five-day cricket.

“I have set myself a target of returning for the tour to Bangladesh, which is from mid-Febuary to the middle of March, but whether that’s realistic or not, I’m not sure,” admitted Flintoff.

“There is a possibility I may not play again. It’s something I’m going to have to be prepared for in case the operation is not as successful as I hope. There will be a question mark in my mind about whether I have played my last game until I know how the operation has turned out.

“I’d be lying if I said it hadn’t crossed my mind, but the success rate for an operation like this is pretty good,” the paper quoted him, as saying. (ANI)

Minogue presents robot vacuum cleaner to Cole as peace offering

London, Jul 6 (ANI): Aussie singer Dannii Minogue is said to have made a peace offering to ‘The X Factor’ co-judge Cheryl Cole by presenting her with a state-of-the-art robot vacuum cleaner.

Minogue, 37, gave Cole the 300 pounds Roomba Vacuum Robot at her 26th birthday bash in London’s Vanilla private club.

And the effort to end the rivalry between them seems to have worked, with sources saying that the ‘Girls Aloud’ member was “delighted” with her unusual present.

“Dannii’s gift was Cheryl’s favourite,” the Daily Star quoted a pal of the star as saying.

“She thought it was hilarious and really thoughtful.

“She hates housework and can’t get her husband Ashley to lift a finger in the house – so it showed Dannii had given a lot of thought to her gift.

“Cheryl gave Dannii a huge hug when she saw it,” the pal added.

The cleaner’s manufacturers claim that sensors guide the disk-shaped droid around any room, and that it can even adjust its own height to suck up dirt from different surfaces like rugs or tiles.

Other sources have revealed that the gift has proved that the girls have been getting along much better since their earlier stages of filming.

“Things may have been a bit frosty early on last year but they’ve got on so much better during this year’s auditions,” an X Factor insider said.

“Dannii has made a real effort to bond with Cheryl this year and it looks like it has paid off,” the insider added. (ANI)

Novel robotic rat to search for survivors through rubble and burning buildings

London, July 1 (ANI): Rescue teams are all set to get a run for their money, for scientists have now unveiled a pioneering robotic rat that could search through rubble and burning buildings for survivors – using only its whiskers.

Called the Scratchbot, the robot used latest state-of-the-art technology to hunt through pitch black or smoke-filled rooms.

Scratchbot does all this only via touch sensors located on a set of whiskers, reports The Scotsman.

The robot could have huge implications in search and rescue missions by picking its way through rubble and debris or help in mine-clearing operations.

The device is the brainchild of researchers from the University of Bristol and University of Sheffield, who have spent six years and 500,000 pounds to research and designing the robotic rat that could revolutionise rescue missions.

The project was inspired by the use of touch in the animal kingdom – specifically how rats explore their environments using whiskers in poorly lit places. (ANI)

Jamie Hince ‘sick of Kate Moss’ extended jam sessions’

London, June 30 (ANI): Kate Moss has been barred by boyfriend Jamie Hince from playing her karaoke system for more than half an hour in a day, according to reports.

The source added: “When she’s not working she likes nothing more than getting some pals over to her place after lunch, cracking open a couple of bottles and then singing to her heart’s content.

“But Jamie is getting a little bit tired of the lengthy singalongs and he has now told her that she can only rock the mic for just half an hour a day.”

Hince, who is a guitarist in the band ‘The Kills’, had teamed up on stage with Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour at a charity event earlier this month. (ANI)

Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate Bandra Worli sea link today

Mumbai, June 30 (ANI): Congress president Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the much-awaited Bandra Worli sea link here today.

The 5.6 kilometers long cable-stayed bridge has been designed to allow for speedy road travel between Bandra and Worli in the busy and traffic-ridden city of Mumbai.

The link would be equipped with state-of-the-art systems for traffic monitoring, emergency support and an automated toll system.

It is an ambitious eight-lane twin carriageway built over the Mahim Creek of Arabian Sea. The bridge rests on two towers, each 126 metres tall or equivalent to a 43-storeyed building.

Spectacular fireworks enthralled the residents, a day before the opening of the link, which will facilitate rapid conveyance from Mumbai’s west to south.

“I just loved this event that is happening here. The fireworks were just amazing, I loved to watch it,” said Neelam Mansi, a resident.

People said that the new bridge would save a lot of commuting time.

“The construction of the sea link would save people’s time,” said Leen Montri, another resident. (ANI)

US under attack from Chinese cyber spies

WASHINGTON: The Chinese cyber spies have penetrated so deep into the US system- ranging from its secure defence network, banking system,
electricity grid to putting spy chips into its defence planes- that it can cause serious damage to the United States any time, a top Obama Administration official on counter-intelligence has said.

“Chinese penetrations of unclassified DoD networks have also been widely reported. Those are more sophisticated, though hardly state of the art,” said National Counterintelligence Executive, Joel F Brenner, at the Austin University Texas last week, according to a transcript made available yesterday.

Listing out some of the examples of Chinese cyber spy penetration, he said, “We’re also seeing counterfeit routers and chips, and some of those chips have made their way into US military fighter aircraft. You don’t sneak counterfeit chips into another nation’s aircraft to steal data. When it’s done intentionally, it’s done to degrade systems, or to have the ability to do so at a time of one’s choosing.”
