Obama to host tripartite meeting with Israeli PM and Palestinian President

Jerusalem, Sep 20 (ANI): In an effort to renew the peace process in the Middle East, President Barack Obama will host a tripartite meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the meeting would take place after Obama meets separately with each of the two leaders.

“These meetings will continue the efforts of President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Special Envoy George Mitchell to lay the groundwork for the relaunch of negotiations, and to create a positive context for those negotiations so that they can succeed,” the Jerusalem Post quoted a White House statement, as saying.

The meetings will take place in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly conference.

The White House announcement of the meeting comes as something of a surprise, since both Israel and the PA until Saturday continued to blame each other for the current stall in peace talks

And recently, Mitchell had failed to make progress in talks with the two leaders.

On Saturday, Mitchell said: “It is another sign of the president’s deep commitment to comprehensive peace that he wants to personally engage at this juncture.” (ANI)

Urumqui, Sep. 14 (ANI): The blood samples of Urimqui’s latest syringe attack victims showed no trace of radioactive, toxic or viral substances, such as AIDS, an expert at a Beijing-based laboratory has said.

However, Director of Disease Control and Biological Security Office with China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Qian Jun, has said that the victims have showed signs of depression.

“Although no radioactive or toxic substances were found, some patients showed various levels of anxiety and depression and have been recommended for psychological counselling,” China daily quoted Quian, as saying.

Meanwhile, the first group of syringe attack suspects were prosecuted in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

At least 500 cases of attacks have surfaced in the city since mid-August.

Two men and a woman were given sentences ranging from seven to 15 years in jail for syringe stabbings or robberies in which they threatened their victims with needles.

The court sentenced 19-year-old Yilipan Yilihamu to 15 years in prison for injecting a woman with a hypodermic needle on August 28 at a roadside fruit stall. (ANI)

‘Red-faced’ Mischa Barton kicked out by toilet attendant!

New York, July 3 (ANI): O.C. star Mischa Barton was left embarrassed after she was kicked out by a toilet attendant for dragging a friend into the toilet stall with her, it has emerged.

The 23-year-old actress was out with five friends and her new boyfriend at Whisky Mist nightclub in Mayfair, London, when she tried to drag friend Bridget into the toilet stall with her.

As they tried to go into the toilet stall, they were stopped by the toilet attendant, who kicked the actress out of the loo.

According to the Daily Mail, the attendant was later forced to knock on the door repeatedly, when Barton took too long in the stall solo.

“Then her mate was knocking to check she was feeling okay,” the New York Daily News quoted an onlooker as saying.

“When she came out of the cubicle she was complaining about people knocking on the door. She looked slightly worse for the wear as she attempted to apply her make-up,” the onlooker added. (ANI)

Miss Nude South Africa dismisses claims Sexpo event exploited women

Johannesburg, May 16 (ANI): After a handful of Christians protested outside Cape Town’s Sexpo, Miss Nude South Africa has rejected claims that the event exploited women.

Bella Anderson, who is conducting lap dancing workshops at Sexpo, hoped that visitors to the event would leave more comfortable with who they were, instead of worrying about what other people said.

“We are all here by our own choice: no one’s been forced to be here,” 24.com quoted a topless Anderson as saying at her stall in the expo.

“I mean, I love sitting here… I enjoy this. It’s not like I’m a prostitute or anything.

“I’m just enjoying the fact that I’m a woman first of all, and second of all I’m using my womanly side and my femininity… to have fun with people.

“It’s not like I’m sleeping with anyone or doing bad things,” she added.

Outside the Cape Town Convention Centre, where Sexpo is being held, about 15 Christian conservatives held a placard protest and handed out pamphlets.

Spokesperson for the Christian Action Network Taryn Hodgson said that Christians believed that sex was a gift from God and should be expressed only within the confines of marriage.

“We shouldn’t take something that’s private and personal and make it public,” Hodgson said.

She also said it was outrageous that an industry that promoted the “objectification and exploitation” of women should be given space at a premier tourist destination in the heart of the city.

The protesters handed out a statement expressing concern that Sexpo would lure members of the public into experimenting with porn and attending strip clubs, which were hubs for criminal activity including prostitution.

Making a statement in reaction to the protest that the event was a “health, sexuality and lifestyle” show, Sexpo organiser Silas Howarth said: “We are quite happy there are people in the democracy who are… exercising their freedom of speech, but we also believe they should respect the fact that we have a massive expo, with massive, massive following.”

He said that attendances of some 100 000 over the past year in various centres showed that most South Africans were comfortable with the event.

“At the end of the day all we’re doing is saying ‘this is what’s out there, this is what is happening in the adult industry, this is what it feels like to be comfortable with your sexuality and sensuality and to have fun,’” he said.

“When it’s between two consenting people – or more than two consenting people – at the end of the day, if people are willing, if they’re wanting to do it, if they’re doing it safely, where’s the harm in that?” he added. (ANI)

Nathu La trade draws low response in its fourth season

Nathula (Sikkim), May 9 (ANI): The fourth season of trade between Sikkim and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) through the Nathu La Pass of Sikkim has reflected disappointment among Indian traders who still haven’t received travel passes since border trade was opened on May 4.

The travel passes of around 62 Sikkimese traders are still pending with the East district administration which is the prime agency to issue all such passes for the border trade causing a major disappointment.

Anil Gupta, General Secretary of Indo-China Border trade association of Sikkim said, ” the low-key inauguration ceremony of May 4 and the delay of travel passes will create a unharmonious situation between the two countries and will refrain Indian traders from visiting the Tibetian side from next year.
“With the delay of travel passes a bitter international relation will be created affecting the trade. The identity of Sikkim will also be spoiled in the national scenario. The travel passes shouldn’t have been delayed as it was declared officially that the international border trade would begin and every thing should have been well organized. Now because our traders can’t go there creating a lot of disappointment on their side,” he added.

Border trade between the two countries is also sluggish due to restrictions in tradable items. India can import 15 items from China including silk, yak pelts and horses, and export 29 goods that include textiles, tea, rice, vegetables and herbs.

Business people from both sides of the border are seeking a broadening of the list of items traded through the pass.

Kesang Diki, Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) commerce official was unsatisfied with the facilities given to them on the Indian side and with the unfavourable weather causing further threat to their goods.

“When the fellow Indian traders come to our place to trade we provide all the basic necessities like carrying the good and picking from the bus stand and keeping inside the stall. We don’t let them face problems but out here we face the trouble of carrying our own good to the mart. I also feel that a revamped list of items should be of prior concern if you want a good trade between India and China,” she said.

In July 2006, the two Asian giants, re-opened trade across the Nathu La Pass as part of a broader rapprochement. The move marked the first direct trade link between the nuclear-armed neighbours since a bitter border war in 1962.

Under the agreement, trade takes place four days a week – Monday to Thursday – beginning May each year and lasting until November 30 when snow makes the area impassable.

Although two-way trade was slow in the first three seasons, about 1,900 Chinese traders crossed the border separated by a rusty barbed wire marker to the bazaar of Sherathang, five kilometers below the pass on the Indian side. About 1,200 Indian traders headed to the Rinchengang interim market in Tibet on the Chinese side, 16 km from the border, during the first three seasons. (ANI)

Cheers And Tears As Jade Cortege Passes By

Hundreds of people have turned out to watch reality TV star Jade Goody’s funeral procession through the streets of south east London. Skip related content

Her grandparents looked on as her plain white coffin was carried from F A Albin and Son in Bermondsey and placed in a vintage Rolls Royce hearse.

Sky News Entertainment correspondent Matt Smith, at the scene, said Jade was very close to her grandparents.

“They were the people she most identified with,” he said.

Earlier flowers were laid in the street outside the funeral directors, many with warm tributes to Jade.

A staff member at F A Albin said they had “never known anything like it, not in 20 years”.

Police stopped traffic as the cortege made its way through Bermondsey, where Jade grew up, in wet, gloomy conditions.

Many well-wishers tossed flowers into the hearse as it passed by. Others stood applauding in the rain.

The funeral cortege is tracing the geography of Jade’s life as it makes its way to St John The Baptist Church in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.

As it travelled through Bermondsey it stopped at The Blue Market where Jade’s family used to have a stall.

Funeral director Barry Albin-Dyer told the crowd: “I knew you’d be like this. I knew you’d come and say goodbye like this. So from everyone in Bermondsey, goodbye.”

He then released a single white dove which was greeted by loud cheering and applause.

Flowers were collected from well-wishers and some were placed on top of the coffin.

The vicar of St James’s Church, Rev Stewart Hartley, said a prayer before leading the crowd in “three cheers for Jade”.

The cortege went on to pass through the council estate where she grew up.

After picking up Jade’s mother Jackiey, the cortege made its way over Tower Bridge, through East London and on to the star’s former home in Upshire, Essex.

Jade’s sons Bobby and Freddie are not expected to attend the funeral.

They are believed to have gone to Australia with their father Jeff Brazier.

Publicist Max Clifford, who represented Jade, said the funeral would be “a very Jade Goody event”.

Jade died at home aged 27 on March 22 after losing a battle with cervical cancer.

Mr Clifford said he and her husband Jack Tweed, 21, would be among people paying tribute at the service.

“I’m sure it will be a very emotional celebration and tribute to a very special young lady,” said Mr Clifford.

“I think Jade would want people to be laughing and crying and I’m sure they will be.”

Church officials were preparing to erect crash barriers in anticipation of huge crowds.

TV hosts Richard and Judy, the Sugababes, Jamelia and Kerry Katona are expected to be among 300 mourners inside the church.

The service will be beamed onto giant screens outside. Jade will be buried at a private service nearby.

Jade’s friend Kevin Adams, one of her bridesmaids and a school friend are also due to make tributes.
