Smart phones exposing kids to suicide, sex

Melbourne, May 10 (ANI): Smart phones such as Apple”s iPhone are allowing children to download violent and sexually explicit games that have escaped government classification.

The classification loophole means schoolchildren given smart phones and similar devices by their parents are being exposed to material which would be restricted in other forms of media, such as video game consoles, magazines and movies.

The material can be downloaded on to iPhones from Apple”s App Store in as little as 60 seconds, and only a credit card or debit card is needed to create an iTunes account to download the apps.

An example of such games is the ”5 Minutes to Kill (Yourself)” game, which has an image of a man with a knife through his head as a logo, and where players have the option of a number of weapons to “get the job done”.

Another is the ”Girls And Drinks” game where players are encouraged to drink excessively to attract “sexy” barmaids, with a spiel saying, “Choose a sexy bartender. The more you drink, the sexier she gets”.

The suicide game triggered a furious response from Beyond Blue chairman and anti-depression advocate Jeff Kennett.

“Put this in the hands of a kid who is depressed or has been bullied, it”s like throwing fuel on the fire to the problem,” News.com.au quoted him as saying.

Apple has about 150,000 apps available on its site in Australia, and the ratings it gives are in small print on the games” listings.

The games do not contain ratings from the Government”s Classification Board, as they are required to under Federal law.

The board”s website notes “games must be classified by the board before they can be sold or hired in Australia”.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Attorney-General”s Department said it was “considering the issue of mobile phone applications”.

An Apple spokeswoman said the company “self-rated” a number of the game apps on its site.

“Our approval process is about protection of consumer privacy, protecting children where we can,” she added. (ANI)

“Being physically in shape is important, especially when you have to sometimes work 13-16 hour days,” she added.

Love Happens is a romantic drama that places Aniston opposite “The Dark Knight” hunk Aaron Eckhart. (ANI)

Smart people are sexier

Wellington, Sep 2 (ANI): A person’s sex quotient lies in his or her brain, according to a study that suggests that being smart is sexy, and the smartest males get the most partners.

Through a study on Australian birds, a team of researchers have lent support to the idea that our big human brain evolved because it is a sexually attractive organ, not just a useful one.

According to the above theory, signs of intelligence – such as creating art, music, and humour – could have made the brainiest people luckiest in love.

The theory was hugely discussed in the book ‘The Mating Mind’ by an evolutionary psychologist, Geoffrey Miller, almost a decade ago.

Jason Keagy, of the University of Maryland in the US, said that testing the theory in humans was very difficult, and thus he chose to observe satin bowerbirds at Wallaby Creek in NSW instead.

He claimed that Bowerbirds are intelligent.

“But they’re not as complex as humans,” Stuff.co.nz quoted him as saying.

Keagy could get an accurate record of the male birds’ sexual success by videotaping their every movement.

“They can’t really lie to us,” he said.

Known for their fascination with blue objects, bowerbirds have a strong aversion to red.

In the first IQ test, the researchers placed three red objects under a clear plastic container in their bower, and found that the smartest males could remove the cover and carry away the offending objects in 20 seconds.

“It looks pretty simple, but some weren’t able to do it,” said Keagy.

In a second braintwister, he glued a red object down and observed that some bowerbirds kept on trying in vain to pull it out, while the brighter ones quickly twigged this was impossible and covered it with leaves.

The males who failed the plastic container test were spurned.

“No females were mating with them,” said Keagy.

However, the smartest birds attracted up to 20 female partners a season.

“This is the first evidence [in any species] that individuals with better problem-solving abilities are more sexually attractive,” he said.

He claimed that greater intelligence could allow male bowerbirds to woo more females because they can build more elaborate bowers, are better dancers or are more responsive to subtle cues from the females during courtship.

Alternative theories to the mating mind include that our large brain evolved because it was advantageous for hunting or living in social groups, and cultural creativity was simply a fortuitous by-product of the struggle to survive.

The study has been published in the journal Animal Behaviour. (ANI)

Liz Hurley finds life in the country ‘so sexy’

London, May 7 (ANI): English model Liz Hurley considers life in the country to be sexier than that in urban areas.

The wife of Indian textiles heir Arun Nayar, who currently lives in Gloucestershire, feels that rural folk are lustier than urbanites.

“Everyone laughed when I said I was moving to the country,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“But I wouldn’t mind betting that there’s less sex in the city than there is in the country because it’s just, well, sexier here. When English people think of the country, sex is never far from their minds,” she added.

She appeared to be very impressed with the fluffy rugs that country types lay in front of their “sexy” open fires.

“No prizes for guessing why they’re there,” she said.

Hurley also seems to be quite impressed with the bucolic charms of local menfolk.

“The builders who did my stable conversion were so gorgeous,” she said.

“Or take the shelf-fillers in my local supermarket. My son’s riding teacher is tall, dark and handsome,” she added.

She also appears to have a crush on the Prince of Wales, with whom she’s developing an organic food range.

“I’ve long been his greatest fan. No one has ever looked better in hunting or polo gear,” she said. (ANI)

Kate Winslet poses on girder for Harper’s Bazaar

London, May 03 (ANI): In a daring photoshoot for fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar, Kate Winslet has posed amid the rooftops of New York.

The Oscar-winning actress posed for a series of shots for the magazine, reminiscent of the famous Lunchtime Atop A Skyscraper photograph of grubby Thirties builders eating lunch hundreds of feet above the city streets.

“It was dramatic seeing Kate perched on a girder,” News of the World quoted an onlooker a saying.

“She looked like one of those construction workers in the famous American skyscraper pictures-only a lot sexier in just her underwear and a pin-striped jacket,” the onlooker added. (ANI)

Katie Green’s busty advice for women: Get fitted

London, Apr 29 (ANI): Brit model Katie Green has in Ultimo’s latest campaign urged people to get their boobs measured regularly.

Green, 21, joined boss Michelle Mone, fellow model Lucy Clarkson and 20 “real women” at Debenhams in London, urging people to visit Ultimo’s Bra Clinic, where the tag line is: “If the bra cup runneth over, it’s time to get fitted!”

“Getting your boobs measured regularly is a must,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“I feel sleeker, sexier and much more confident when I’m in the right-sized lingerie. It’s unbelievable that so many women are walking around in the wrong sized bra.

“Women love to feel good about themselves, but a simple thing like getting fitted is still alien to a lot of women out there.

“When I was measured my size changed quite dramatically, I got a big surprise.

“My advice to all those girls out there is ‘get fitted’. Ultimo offer free fittings, so get to your local store and get those breasts professionally measured – ladies, you’ll love the results!

“In the past I’ve been guilty of just picking up whatever bra looks pretty and hoping for the best, but getting measured totally changed my shape and made me feel amazing,” she stated.

Mone added: “Women have achieved so much over the years – we’ve won the right to vote and we’ve tackled equality in the workplace, but we’ve never quite mastered the art of looking after our busts!

“Hopefully this campaign will change that,” she said.

Russian golfer whose sex appeal matches her playing skills

London, Apr.2 (ANI): Meet the Russian golfer whose sex appeal matches her playing skills.

Maria Verchenova has made a huge impression on the Ladies European Tour circuit, but there is much more to her than her skills on the fairway.

When asked which was easier, modelling or golf, The Sun quoted Verchenova as saying: “re you kidding me? Definitely modelling. You just put some clothes on and pose. If golf was that easy we’d all be 20-under-par every tournament.”

When asked whether she was bothered by the media attention because of what she was wearing, she said: “I enjoyed it. I always like to bring something extra special to the golf course, so if I’m wearing sexier, more stylish stuff like a shorter skirt or a nice tennis-style dress and people notice then great.”

When asked how she would like to be known – as a sexy woman or a great golfer, she said: “I’ll settle for both, thank you.” (ANI)

Women find men with head full of hair sexier

London, Mar 29 (ANI): Unlucky in love? Well, as phony as it may sound, but women are not very fond of men with receding hairline.

That’s the conclusion of a new research, which found that ladies looking for love on dating websites are five times more likely to contact men with a full head of hair than those who are thinning on top.

The shocking two-month experiment was conducted on behalf of hair loss treatment specialists Maximum Hair.

The research has posted two profiles on a variety of popular Internet forums. The snaps used were of the same man – except one was doctored to show him thinning on top and the other with a full head of hair.
In both the images the man was dressed identically. And said he was looking for love as a successful, professional, 30-year-old male, based in London with interests in sport, music and travel.

From the analyses, it was found that the man with a full head of hair received 108 responses, compared with 22 received by the page showing him with thinning and receding hair.

“People inevitably make judgments based on first visual impressions and it appears that beauty is not only skin deep but that many Britons have follicle foibles,” The Telegraph quoted Andreas Adamides, chief executive officer of Maximum Hair, as saying.

“The research illustrates that many women are attracted by men with a full head of hair, which historically has been related to virility.

“This social experiment illustrates that in the world of online dating a person’s photo is far more important than their personality profile,” Andreas said. (ANI)

Maths to open doors for sexier lingerie, perfect-fitting clothes

Washington, Mar 13 (ANI): Do you think that your newly bought lingerie doesn’t fit you well, or isn’t really sexier enough? Well, the solution to the problem lies in mathematics, according to Japanese researchers.he researchers have built a computerized 3D model of the female trunk that could help lingerie and other clothes designers make more sensuous, comfortable, and better fitting product ranges.

Kensuke Nakamura of Kyoto Institute of Technology and Takao Kurokawa of Osaka University said that identifying body shape components was critical for designing close-fitting products, whether underwear, everyday clothes, or safety garments.

However, conventional body measurements, photographic images, and silhouette do not provide complete three-dimensional data, with which modern designers could work to improve their products and tailor specific ranges to particular body shapes.

In fact, the study might also have implications for research into body image disorders and ergonomics.

During the study, the researchers developed a technique that allowed them to extract a woman’s body shape components from 3D data, and then tied that to a classification of trunk shapes.

For the study, the researchers closely observed the bodies of 560 Japanese women, aged from 19 to 63, using laser metrology to map “control points” at specific sites on the women’s trunks.

That allowed them to fit the above data to a generic 3D trunk model in the computer, and fit the control points to it to build up a database of body shapes, revealed the researchers.

The team later applied statistical analysis to the data employing principal component analysis and cluster analysis to classify trunk characteristics into five different types.

Each depends on slimness or otherwise, breast size and angle, neck type, and shoulder slope.

They obtained five classes of body shape that, according to them, represented the majority of trunk shape among Japanese women.

The researchers claim that their analysis will be helpful in producing clothes that fit better for size and shape, and in improving practical functional clothes used for body adjustment and posture improvement.

“We expect that the method will be applied to various customer groups and the results will be reflected in clothes design instead of the seat-of-the-pants approach of designers,” concluded the researchers. (ANI)

Heidi Klum to continue modelling until she’s 80 and ‘on crutches’

New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI): Supermodel Heidi Klum has no intentions of leaving the catwalk.

“I’ll be 80 on crutches at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show hopping down the runway, groaning for my grandkids to help me down!” she told Fox News.

The 35-year-old German beauty has recently been chosen as the new face of the Victoria’s Secret Perfect One bra and admits even though she made many fashion mistakes in the past, she feels sexier than ever, reports China Daily.

“I’ve done things like wearing a sexy dress with granny pants underneath or bloomers with my tight jeans instead of a G-string,” she said.

“So I’ve learned feeling sexy is like an onion – the layering, not the scent!” she added.

Klum also revealed that motherhood has made it difficult to stay in shape and she has to follow a sensible diet and exercise regime.

“The only advantage after having children is having a bigger smile on my face. But as far as my body goes, there was definitely more disadvantages. I really have to eat better and work out more now,” she added. (ANI)

Does Brad Pitt secretly lust for ex-wife Jennifer Aniston?

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Brad Pitt may still have feelings for ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, according to a pal.

According to a source, ‘The Curious case of Benjamin Button’ star is not happy in his relationship with Angelina Jolie, and often reminisces about his relationship with former ‘Friends’ star, reports China Daily.

“The way Brad talks about Jennifer is enough to make his drinking buddies wonder that maybe, after all this time, he wishes he hadn’t broken up with her,” a source told National Enquirer magazine.

“I’ll bet he’s secretly lusting after her as she turns 40. She’s sexier than ever. Surely he had more than a twinge of jealously when she got back with John Mayer.

“You get the feeling Brad knows he could always be himself around Jennifer,” the source added.

Pitt was married to Aniston for five years, until they split in 2005. (ANI)

Digital Lara Croft’s next adventure to be sexier or bloodier

Melbourne, Jan 21 (ANI): Gun-toting Digital heroine Lara Croft is heading for a makeover, and will be showing even more skin in her next adventure.

Considering the waning popularity of the video game protagonist and economic downturn, rumours are abuzz that the next Tomb Raider game will be rated M rather than T (for teen) – meaning it will be either sexier or bloodier, which may see efforts to make her more female-friendly.

Eidos, the game’s makers, have sacked 30 employees at Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics, and its shares fell 25 per cent in one day after it revised down its profit forecast, due to lower than expected sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Gamers have expressed their concerns that creators could exploit Croft, famously played by Angelina Jolie in the film.

“I’ve been a fan of the series ever since the first title but isn’t this just a sign of desperation? How about making an awesome game without having to pull stunts like this?” the Courier Mail quoted one fan as writing in a blog.

It is estimated that around 40 per cent of players on the world’s biggest online games, like World of Warcraft and The Sims Online, are women, and the industry is finally taking them seriously.

Penny Sweetser, a senior game designer with 2K Australia, said that the options for women gamers should increase as more women worked in the industry.

Hannah Crosby, an artist with THQ Studios Australia, agreed that women were still getting a man’s take on women’s games.

“Because there’s not many women working on games I guess we’re getting a very male take on what they think women want to play,” she said.

Women view Lara Croft as an icon in the industry and in wider pop culture, and say that they will watch her future appearance with interest.

Crosby, a strong advocate for female characters in games, said that she’d learned to live with Croft’s appearance because of her other heroic qualities.

“It’s the sort of thing women have overlooked to this point because otherwise you wouldn’t play anything,” she said.

“Getting women into games at all at the moment is the first step before anything like what they are wearing or look like,” she added. (ANI)
