Kapadia takes over as new Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, May 12 (NAI): Justice S H Kapadia was on Wednesday sworn-in as the 38th Chief Justice of India (CJI).

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Kapadia.

The event at Rashtrapati Bhawan was attended by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, his cabinet colleagues, outgoing Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and other dignitaries.

Born in September 29, 1947, Kapadia enrolled as an advocate in September 1974.

Appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in October 1991, Kapadia was elevated as a Permanent Judge in the same High Court in March 1993.

He was associated with a historical judgement in which a five-judge Constitutional Bench had held that the law put in the Ninth Schedule was open for judicial review.

He was served as the Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court from October 5, 2003 to December of the same year.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court on December 18, 2003. (ANI)

Anna Friel bares all for Breakfast at Tiffany’s role

London, September 20 (ANI): Actress Anna Friel dropped her layers on stage for her role in classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Pushing Daisies star was said to have left fans with dropped jaws as she stripped off at the preview at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.

“The guys in the front row couldn’t believe it, their eyes were on stalks. It looked like they were about to pass out,” News of the World quoted one as saying.

The 33-year-old stars as Holly Golightly, the role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 Oscar-winning movie.

The play opens on September 29. (ANI)

Jennifer Hudson to headline ‘Wizard Of Oz’ concert in New York

Washington, Sep 10 (ANI): American singer Jennifer Hudson is set to headline a free concert in New York’s Central Park to launch the newly-remastered ‘Wizard Of Oz’ movie.

Hudson, 27, will be one of several singers performing classic songs from the 1939 Judy Garland film, reports Contactmusic.

The show sponsored by Netflix will taken place on September 29, and it will conclude with a screening of the new-look film.

The concert will be directed by The Roots’ drummer and record producer Ahmir ‘?uestlove’ Thompson, who will also be part of the night’s house band. (ANI)

‘Shaky’ Craig requests all-time security for Broadway rehearsals

New York, September 3 (ANI): Daniel Craig’s macho image may have suffered a setback after the actor reportedly demanded all time security while he prepares for his Broadway debut.

The James Bond star was said to have asked for personal security as he shares the stage with co-star Hugh Jackman in “A Steady Rain.”

“Everybody thinks it’s funny because the truth is, Daniel rarely gets approached by the public in the street and at restaurants-especially now that he has the huge handlebar moustache for this role,” the New York Post quoted a production source as saying.

Another Broadway insider said, “Security and secrecy around the show are so tight that Jackman and Craig are rehearsing at a secret location outside the city.”

The much-awaited drama is set to have previews next week and will open on September 29. (ANI)

Britney’s ex Adnan Ghalib pleads not guilty in felony assault case

Washington, Aug 25 (ANI): Pop princess Britney Spears’ ex-boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a process server with his car.

Ghalib was accused of running over Ram Moskowitz as the latter tried to hand him legal papers, which were a part of the singer’s conservatorship case in 2008, reports Contactmusic.

The photographer is facing felony assault with a deadly weapon, battery and hit and run charges.

He is due back in court in Van Nuys, California, on September 29, and he faces seven years behind bars if he’s found guilty. (ANI)

Barbra Streisand taking up jazz in first studio album in 4yrs

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): After four years of releasing her last studio album, Barbra Streisand has finally joined hands with Canadian jazz singer-pianist Diana Krall to come up with her latest venture-’Love Is The Answer’.

Her record label Columbia Records has revealed that the album is Streisand’s first full-length collection of new studio recordings since 2005′s ‘Guilty Pleasures’, and her first album since ‘Live In Concert 2006′.

Last year, the singer-actress was preoccupied with the U.S. election campaign, reports the China Daily.

But this year, she said that having a new president in the White House has provided her time to relax, and she could get back to making music again.

“‘Love Is The Answer’ presents the artist as a cabaret and jazz singer of emotional clarity, depth and maturity,” said Columbia Records, a unit of Sony Corp, in a statement.

On the new album, Streisand works for the first time with Grammy-winning Krall and her quartet of guitar, bass, and drums as well as songwriter Johnny Mandel, whom she has worked with on her 1993 ‘Back to Broadway’ album.

Although the album is set for a September 29 release, the song titles for the album have yet to be announced. (ANI)

Malegaon blast case chargesheet to be filed today

Mumbai, Jan 20 (ANI): Maharashtra Police will file a chargesheet in connection with the Malegaon blast case before a Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) court. The police is not expected to seek an extension for filing the chargesheet.

The court will also hear bail application of the five main alleged perpetrators in the September 29 Malegaon blasts, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt Col S P Purohit,who was working with Military Intelligence, Ajay Rahirkar, Shivnarayan Kalsangra and Sham Sahu.

The MCOCA court had earlier remanded all the eleven accused till January 20 to judicial custody.

The Anti-terrorism squad of the Maharashtra Police hasl not been successful in arresting three other accused in the case.

Joint Commissoner Hemant Karkare, who died in the recent Mumbai terror attacks, probating the case. (ANI)
