NSA to convene China Study Group meeting to discuss incursion fallout

New Delhi, Sep.17 (ANI): National Security Advisor M K Narayanan will hold a meeting of the China Study Group – consisting of top officials including Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Secretaries of Defence, Home and Foreign Ministries – here today.

The meeting is expected to take stock of the situation along the Sino-India border, official sources said.

Besides Chandrasekhar, the meeting will be attended by Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, Home Secretary G K Pillai and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.

Top officials of the three armed forces and the Intelligence Bureau will also attend the meeting.

The meeting assumes significance in wake of recent reports of incursions by the Chinese army in Ladakh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, involving the air dropping of expired food canes, painting of rocks red among others.

Another media report said that two Chinese Sukhoi fighters had transgressed into Indian air space last month.

The Indian Air Force, however, says no unscheduled flight inside Indian air space had taken place last month. (ANI)

PM reviews current economic situation with industry leaders

New Delhi, Mar 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Saturday reviewed the current economic situation with top industry leaders.

Dr. Singh sought their views on India’s stand at the G-20 summit for a way out of the global crisis.

The meeting was attended by Tata group head Ratan Tata, Aditya Birla group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, ICICI Managing Director and CEO K V Kamath, Essar Group’s Shashi Ruia and FICCI President Harsh Pati Singhania.

Other prominent businessmen included Assocham President Sajjan Jindal, R P Goenka of the Goenka group, Adi Godrej of the Godrej group, Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero group, Baba Kalyani of Bharat Forge and CII Chief Mentor Tarun Das.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar also attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister, who is leaving for London on March 31 to attend the G-20 summit, will meet Obama and heads of other developed and developing nations and representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Dr. Singh will have his first meeting with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in London on April 2.

Apart from monitoring regulations of international finance institutions, Dr. Singh would also take up issues related to protectionism and job losses.

Bilateral regional and global issues, including the Afghanistan, Pakistan strategic review, climate change and the status of world economy will also figure prominently in the deliberations. (ANI)

CBI conference on cyber crime today

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will organise a one-day conference on cyber crime here today.

Organized in association with Council of Europe, the conference will hold deliberations on cyber crime threats and trends, International cooperation against cyber crime, and Law enforcement.

The meeting aims to enhance the knowledge of law enforcement agencies in fighting cyber crime and improving international police cooperation against such crime.

The conference also assumes significance in the wake of the growing dependence on computer and Internet connectivity in modern day life.

Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar will open the conference that will see participation of senior police officers from all states, Union Territories, other law enforcement agencies, forensic labs, research organisations, Internet service providers and other stake holders. (ANI)
