Indian-American Haley is racially attacked

New York, June 6 (IANS) Indian-American Nikki Haley, who is contesting governorship in South Carolina, was attacked racially by a state lawmaker who called her a ‘raghead’, media reports said Sunday.

Republican state Senator Jake Knotts also made critical statement about President Barack Obama on an internet political show called Pub Politics.

Haley, who was born a Sikh, said she was ‘attacked’ because she’s leading in the polls, nbcagusta.com reported.

A ‘raghead’ is usually used against Arabs or other ethnic groups who wear turbans.

‘We already got one raghead in the White House and don’t need another in the governor’s mansion,’ a South Carolina newspaper quoted Knotts as saying.

He also commented about Haley’s parents’ religion and her family.

Haley spent Saturday afternoon campaigning at the City Hall in Aiken, just two days before the primary.

‘This is no longer about picking someone because they look good in a picture or because they hold a baby well,’ Haley said.

Haley told the crowd she wants to make South Carolina an independent state.

‘I went from ‘Nikki-who?’ to suddenly going double digits in the polls, and all of a sudden there were all these attacks. But when you go after corruption, power and money, you’re going to get attacked,’ Haley said.

Aiken Republican Club President Tony Coffero Jr. says Tuesday’s vote will be a close one.

Dream victory at Monaco greatest day of my life: Webber

Melbourne, May 18 (ANI): Red Bull driver Mark Webber has said that winning the Monaco Grand Prix was the best day in his life as he had dreamt of a top podium finish in the world’s ‘toughest’ race since childhood.

“It was the best day of my life. I’ve dreamt of winning the Monaco Grand Prix since I was a boy and to do it from pole position was just awesome.

“It’s an honour for me to join the list of winners for this race, which hadn’t been won by an Australian since Jack Brabham in 1959,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Webber, as saying.

“Qualifying and the race were pretty near perfect for me. The RB6 was fantastic to drive and I executed some tidy laps to take pole position from Robert Kubica on Saturday afternoon,” he said.

Webber said he expected a real challenge from Kubica, but was relieved to see Sebastian Vettel get the jump on him at the start.

“It gave me a buffer to the Renault driver, while also setting us up for Red Bull Racing’s second one-two of the season. My start wasn’t actually that great, but the run to the first corner was short and no one was able to get ahead.

“It’s very difficult to pass at Monaco and when I emerged from the first corner in the lead, I knew that the race was mine to lose,” Webber said. (ANI)

Six steps to a happy sex life

London, Apr 30 (ANI): Feeling shy to make that first move in the bedroom? Well, here are six sex tips to get you all raring to go and sweep your man off his feet.

1. Bag Some Bedroom Magic with Before-Play

No surprise that women blame a lack of romance for a lack of sex! Time to nurture “before-play” between you—if you”ve had a row, or are stressed after work, let him know you need some cuddles and affection.

Don”t expect him to be a mind reader – men aren”t good at that. Ask him for a compliment, too. Men respond to straight talking so tell him that feeling appreciated and loved-up gets you in the mood for proper foreplay, reports The Sun.

Having before-play creates the right mood to get turned on. So include things like always having mood music ready to play, and candles to light your supper – even if it”s a takeaway!

2. Get Steamy!

Time to turn up the heat. Why not suggest having a candlelit bath or sexy shower together. Subtle candlelight flatters your figure! Take time lathering each other up with some sexy-scented shower gel. Have a couple warm towels ready to dry each other off before you tumble into bed.

When you indulge each other in steamy little pleasures it”ll give you loads of ideas for more sensual tricks to tempt each other into bed. You could offer to wash his hair and caress his scalp gently. Show him a light touch and then ask him to return the favour.

Once you”re out of the shower dare him to paint your fingernails. As he strokes each of your fingers gently it produces the love hormone oxytocin in your bodies.

3. Get Rude with Food!

It”s crucial to make sex as easy-as-can-be when you”re a busy/tired couple. So grab opportunities like getting a bit rude with food together. It”s super sexy to hand-feed each other little tidbits or to spoon something delicious like chocolate mousse into each other”s mouths.

Or why not have a rude-food feast in bed on a Saturday afternoon? Who says you have to eat at the table! This is the perfect setting for drizzling some sweet honey down your cleavage for him to lick off – forget about putting it on toast!

4. Letting Him Know What You Want

Believe me he wants to know what turns you on! If you”re feeling a bit shy then show him rather than tell him what to do. Take his hand and guide it gently around your pleasure-zones. Pause where it feels fab saying, “I love it when you touch me here.”

Also when he happens to touch you just right “big him up” – men love praise so heap it on him and he”ll do more of that feel-good foreplay.

If he”s a bit heavy-handed (true of so many men!) use this trick— take his finger and gently suck and lick it – then tell him that”s the sort of pressure you love.

And definitely use a warm and sensual voice to encourage him. Crikey, even just hearing your little sex-sighs will make him all ears! So use those little sighs and moans to communicate your pleasure.

5. How To Find Out What He Wants!

He might be a bit shy to tell you what he likes. So ask, ask and ask again! A good way to ask is to give him some options. Say something like, “do you prefer it when I stroke or squeeze you here, and more gently or firmly?” This”ll give him the confidence to be honest.

If he needs extra encouragement tell him you find it exciting being told what to do. Turn this into a playful sex-game where he”s the boss and you”re his sexy PA and he”s going to dictate to you what he wants done!

6. Your Private Pleasure Pack

Definitely make your sex-life simpler by keeping a little “pleasure pack” in your bedside table. Then when the mood strikes you”ll be ready for some frolics with your fella.

No annoying searching about for things like your favourite lubricant, condoms, sex toys, blind fold for a kinky sex game, sexy stockings and silky knickers, tissues, massage oils, etc. (ANI)

Police ‘left family by roadside’

Tasmanian police have begun an investigation into allegations officers abandoned a family with young children on a country road in the state’s south.

Translator Mohamed Hefny says he was driving with his family near Huonville last Saturday afternoon, when he was pulled over by police and booked for not having the correct child restraints.

Tasmania Police says there were seven people in the car, and three children were not properly restrained.

Mr Hefny says he agreed with the officers who pulled him over that he was in the wrong and told them he was happy to pay the fine, but an officer confiscated his car keys.

He says he begged police not to leave his family on the side of the road, but they did.

“They stripped me of my rights and of my dignity, humiliated me in front of my family and put me in a position that is unsafe,” Mr Hefny said.

Mr Hefny has filed a complaint against the police force.

He says he was treated unfairly.

“Very very unfairly. I am aware about fair and not fair,” he said.

“Maybe my accent is different but I know what is right and what’s law.”

In a statement, Tasmania Police says officers would not have left the family had they known the seven people had no other way of getting home.

Crop duster plane crash kills 60yo man

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating a fatal plane crash in north Queensland that claimed the life of a 60-year-old man over the weekend.

Authorities say the crop duster plane crashed into a cane field and burst into flames after clipping powerlines on Clare Dalbeg Road at Ayr on Saturday afternoon.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Driver dies in convertible crash

A Horsham man in his 50s was killed in a road crash at Horsham on Saturday afternoon.

The man was driving a convertible car when it ran off Three Bridges Road and hit a table drain about 2:00pm (AEDT).

A 23-year-old passenger was able to free himself from the upside down vehicle and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Man shot in hunting mishap

A 39-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital after a weekend shooting accident in Western Australia’s wheatbelt.

The man was out hunting with two friends at a property south-west of Moora when he accidentally discharged the 0.223 calibre rifle on Saturday afternoon.

Moora police Sergeant Harry Arnott says the bullet went through the man’s groin, before exiting through his lower back.

He says the man’s two mates rushed him to Moora District Hospital before he was later flown to Perth for treatment.

“The RAC Rescue chopper came through and collected him and took him through to Royal Perth Hospital,” he said.

“He’s got some internal damage to his bowel and intestine but he should be okay. It is a timely warning to everybody not to become complacent when dealing with firearms.”

Slater in doubt for Panthers clash

Melbourne will travel to Penrith for its round three NRL clash without star full-back Billy Slater, who has fallen ill.

The Test custodian failed to train with the Storm before their departure and a decision will be made early on Saturday whether he will fly to Sydney for the Saturday afternoon match.

Gareth Widdop is set to make his NRL first grade debut if Slater does not play.

Police allege speed involved in road crash

Albany police say speed was a factor in a crash which has left a 21-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

Police say the man lost control and rolled his car on Lower Denmark Road in the great southern on Saturday afternoon.

The man was flown to Royal Perth Hospital suffering broken bones.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old fisherman has escaped with minor injuries after falling off rocks at Albany’s blowholes.

The accident happened just after 3:00pm (AWST) on Saturday.

The man was taken to Albany Hospital with a dislocated shoulder.

Fiery Obama drums up health care votes

US president Barack Obama declared Democrats were on the cusp of history after a century struggling for health reform, amid cresting excitement in Congress ahead of a weekend vote.

Mr Obama also invited the entire House of Representatives Democratic caucus to the White House on Saturday afternoon to round off an intense vote-whipping operation on the most sweeping social reform bill in decades.

After months of setbacks, bitter partisanship and legislative logjam, Mr Obama appeared almost triumphant, rekindling the spirit of change which powered his euphoric 2008 election campaign but which has been dimmed by the slog of government.

“Right now, we are at the point where we are going to do something historic this weekend,” he said, two days before a key House of Representatives vote on his sweeping plan to offer healthcare to 32 million uninsured Americans.

“In just a few days, a century-long struggle will culminate in an historic vote,” Mr Obama said, as 8,500 supporters chanted his campaign theme “Yes We Can” in a sports arena in northern Virginia.

On Capitol Hill, Democratic leaders kept up the pressure on wavering Democrats, seeking to piece together the magic majority figure of 216 in the vote expected on Sunday.

“I’m very excited about the momentum that is developing around the bill,” said Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the House.

Ms Pelosi however stopped short of saying she had the votes in hand to pass the measure after a dramatic week of arm-twisting and head counts.

“When we bring the bill to the floor, we will have a significant victory for the American people,” Ms Pelosi said.

If the House passes the bill on Sunday, Mr Obama would then sign it into law.

Senate vote

The Senate is then expected to vote on a House-passed package of fixes to the bill which would amend that law and make it palatable to House members.

Democratic lawmakers are due at the White House at 4:00pm on Saturday, and the meeting will also include Senate Democratic Majority leader Harry Reid, a White House aide said.

Mr Reid’s presence could be intended to assure House members that the Senate will do its part by endorsing changes to original healthcare legislation that many House members find unpalatable.

Republicans have mounted a fierce campaign of obstruction designed to stop the bill, which they say would hike taxes and amounts to a massive government takeover of the mostly-private healthcare industry.

“It’s clear that now is the crunch time. It’s pretty clear that the vote is pretty tight,” said Republican House minority leader John Boehner.

The healthcare bill would amount to the most significant social reform legislation in 40 years, and is seen as crucial to establishing Mr Obama’s political authority, and to defining his eventual presidential legacy.

It would bring the country closer than ever before – 95 per cent of the population – to universal health coverage.

Democrats are also touting an estimate by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office which says the bill could cut $US130 billion from the bloated US deficit through 2019 and $US1.2 trillion in the second 10 years.

‘Do not quit’

Mr Obama was in a fiery mood Friday, warning that failure to pass the bill at the 11th hour would reward insurance firms that had “run amok” at the expense of ordinary Americans.

“Do not quit, do not give up, we keep on going, we are going to get this done, we are going to make history, we are going to fix healthcare in America,” he declared at the end of a rousing speech.

He chose to hold what was likely the final rally of his health reform push at George Mason University, friendly territory in an arena packed with students where he held one of his first presidential campaign events back in 2007.

A lone woman dissenter in the crowd screamed out an inaudible protest and was hustled out by a security guard.

The legislation also aims to end abusive insurance company practices and curb soaring healthcare costs that already run to double those of other rich countries.

The bill would create new insurance marketplaces starting in 2014 and require most Americans to carry insurance, while offering subsidies to many.

Some of its most popular measures include bans on insurers denying coverage because of pre-existing illnesses, imposing lifetime caps on coverage, or dropping people from coverage when they get sick.

Snow still hampering Aussie preparations

Toby Kane, one of Australia’s brightest Paralympic medal chances, will not ski the course he is racing on until the day of competition.

The downhill standing class training session was rescheduled because of fog and heavy snow at the Whistler Creek venue on Friday, meaning below knee amputee Kane will have to wait until Saturday morning (local time) to ski the course, before going for gold on Saturday afternoon.

Under Paralympic rules, skiers must have one official training run before competing on a course.

Australian Paralympic Head Coach Steve Graham says the weather has not dampened the team’s mood.

“Whatever the conditions, we think we’ve got things covered,” he said.

Graham says he did not regret sending the team to the World Cup meet at Aspen last week, unlike the Canadians who skipped the event in lieu of more training.

“Given what the conditions are now, if I was able to go back and do our preparations again, I wouldn’t change a thing,” he said.

Kane, who will carry the Australian flag in the Opening Ceremony on Friday night, remains philosophical about his training being rescheduled for a third time.

“It’s a very big part of our sport – waiting around, weather delays,” he said.

“There’s not a hell of a lot you can do. You just have to take it in stride.

“Obviously we want to run, but we know the organisers are doing the best they can.”

The Australian team had seen the fog and heavy snow that played events during the Olympics and trained accordingly.

“Conditions are very much like Australia, actually,” Graham said.

“We watched the Olympics when we were at our staging camp at Colorado, and we saw how the conditions fluctuated.

“So it actually allowed us to focus a little bit more on dealing with whatever conditions we were dealt with.

“Fortunately we had snow falls most days down there, so we were able to prepare like we can for these kinds of conditions.”

Visually impaired skier Bart Bunting expressed his frustration at having his Thursday training session interrupted.

“There was a lot of pent-up energy,” he said.

“Everyone was getting a bit silly. There’s not much to do except get cold.”

RSS chief Bhagwat says Advani, Rajnath will decide role in BJP

Haridwar, Aug 31(ANI): Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said that BJP leaders LK Advani and Rajnath Singh will decide on their role within the party.

Talking to reporters here, Bhagwat said, “Rajnathji, Advaniji and others will decide on their role in the party. Everything will be fine in the BJP in future.”

“There are people with moral standing like Advani and under their guidance, they will solve all problems. We have nothing to do with this,” he added

While the BJP had said that Rajnath Singh will not get an extension as party president beyond his three-year term that ends in December, there were reports that Advani may step down as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha but the timing for it has been left to him.

Bhagwat had a breakfast meeting with Advani on Sunday and had discussions with other senior leaders.

Sunday’s breakfast meeting between Advani and Bhagwat was the second between the two. They had earlier met on Saturday afternoon for about two hours at the RSS headquarters Keshavkunj in Delhi to discuss various issues.

Saturday’s meeting took place amid reports that the RSS has readied a succession plan for the BJP. However, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters at a press conference that no succession plan was discussed.

The RSS is believed to have told the BJP leadership to set its house in order. That this is being given serious thought was evident when top brass of the BJP met at Advani’s residence yesterday morning for about two hours and briefed him about their discussions with Bhagwat on Friday.

Sources said the RSS has firmly asked BJP leaders to end the infighting in the party and reach consensus on a new party chief. (ANI)

Advani may step down before next Parliament session

New Delhi, Aug.30 (ANI: Leader of Opposition L.K.Advani is likely to step down from his post before the next session of Parliament as part of the BJP succession plan formula, sources said.

As per the plan, reportedly devised by the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), there is also a move to put in place an advisory body of senior BJP leaders, which will include the names of Advani, former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

The developments came even as RSS Chief Mohan Bhawat met Advani at breakfast on Sunday morning to discuss current and emerging issues in the BJP.

After the meeting, senior RSS leader Madan Das Devi told a press conference on Sunday morning that he was confident about the BJP resolving its problems.

“We (RSS) are hopeful that the crisis in the BJP will be resolved. The RSS is assured that the BJP will overcome all problems,” Devi said.

“We all think that a large party such as the BJP has the capability of being given new direction and end its problems. Important BJP leaders met leaders of the RSS. Shri L.K.Advani and other senior BJP leaders met us. We discussed issues of national importance, party issues etc. They have assured us that the problems of the party will be resolved,” Devi added.

Sunday’s breakfast meeting between Advani and Bhagwat was the second between the two. They had earlier met on Saturday afternoon for about two hours at the RSS headquarters in Delhi – Keshavkunj to discuss various issues.

Saturday’s meeting took place amid reports that the RSS has readied a succession plan for the BJP. However, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters at a press conference that no succession plan was discussed.

The RSS is believed to have told the BJP leadership to set its house in order. In a sign that this is being given serious thought, top brass of the BJP met at Advani’s residence yesterday morning for about two hours and briefed him about their discussions with Bhagwat on Friday.

The Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) reportedly asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership this morning to work on a blue print that it has handed over to ensure a smooth succession.

According to sources, Leader of Opposition L K Advani has been asked to preside over the exercise.

Sources also said that Advani had been told to step down after ensuring speedy implementation of the plan, but the RSS has left the timing of Advani’s exit to him. (ANI)

Beer festival closes before time as customers drink the bar dry

London, July 6 (ANI): A beer festival, called the Beer on the Wye festival, in Herefordshire had to close before time, because customers drank the bar dry.

The festival, which was to run until July 5, had to close after running out of beer, cider and perry on Saturday.

According to Mark Haslam, the festival organiser, said that around 3,800 people had turned up for the festival, which was 30 per cent more than last year.

“They started coming in and just didn’t stop coming. We were confident we had enough but we had a contingency plan to get more beer,” the Telegraph quoted Haslam as saying.

He added: “But on Saturday afternoon I was ringing for another 200 gallons. At 11pm we had six gallons left, no cider, no foreign beer. It’s amazing.”

The Herefordshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale had to hold its family day in Hereford on Sunday, but the organisers had to cancel the festival at the last minute.

“There were a number of young people here, there’s very much a trend for drinking real beer. I think it’s a spin-off from people wanting to know the provenance of food and drink,” said Haslam. (ANI)

French tourist abducted in Pakistan

Islamabad- Gunmen have kidnapped a French tourist in Pakistan’s insurgency-hit Balochistan province, media reports said on Sunday.

Six French nationals, including a woman and two children, were intercepted Saturday afternoon near Dalbandin town, located some 320 kilometres west of the provincial capital Quetta, Dawn newspaper reported.

The masked gunmen seized one of the tourists and let the others go, Dawn cited senior police officer Qazi Hussain Ahmed as saying.

It said the French tourists had entered Pakistan from India last week and were travelling to Iran by road, adding that they had not informed the authorities about their journey.

“We are making all-out efforts to recover the French national,” Ahmed told Dawn.

No group claimed responsibility for the abduction, which took place in the region plagued by home-grown insurgency for greater autonomy and large share of natural resources found in the province.

The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued in Paris on Saturday that the kidnapping incident had come to its knowledge and authorities had been mobilized.(dpa)

Six Iraqi policemen killed in Mosul

Mosul, Iraq – Six policemen were killed in three separate attacks over the past 24 hours in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, police said Saturday.

An improvised explosive device exploded outside the home of Mohammed Taha, a police officer from a village south of Mosul, late on Saturday afternoon, police in Mosul told the German Press Agency dpa.

Police on Saturday said they had also found the body of a dentist abducted from the street in front of his house the night before.

In an unrelated incident, four policemen were killed and three others injured when a roadside bomb exploded as they patrolled the eastern Mosul district of al-Sussi late on Friday night, police said.

In a separate incident, also Friday night, unknown attackers fatally shot a policeman and injured another in Mosul’s al-Haramat neighbourhood before escaping.

Mosul, about 400 kilometres north of Baghdad, has been the site of near-daily deadly attacks in recent months, despite successive security pushes that police say have netted hundreds of suspected militants.

On Saturday, police in Mosul said they had arrested four more men suspected of launching attacks against Iraqi security forces and civilians in a raid on a house in a southern district of the city. (dpa)
