July 14 (Reuters) – Global diversified miner Rio Tinto (RIO.AX) (RIO.L) on Wednesday reported a 2 percent fall in second-quarter iron ore production from a year earlier and raised concern about a possible double-dip recession in OECD countries and a slight slowdown in Chinese growth.

Rio Tinto, the world no.2 producer of the steel making raw material, also said it was running its iron ore mines close to capacity and forecast total 2010 production of 234 million tonnes.

Lindsay Lohan wants to be appreciated for her acting, not body

Wellington, June 4 (ANI): ‘Mean Girls’ star Lindsay Lohan has revealed that she would never star in ‘Transformers’ as she wants to be appreciated for her acting and not her body.

Lohan, 23, had been rumoured to be in the running to replace Megan Fox in the third film in the action series, but the role ended up going to Victoria”s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

“it’s just not my kinda movie- but it’s also a type cast situation- hot chick in short shorts, daisy duke situation, right??? (sic),” Stuff.co.nz quoted her as writing on her Twitter page when a fan asked why she hadn’t accepted the role.

Meanwhile, the actress is currently recovering from having her wisdom teeth extracted earlier this week. She is still in agony after the operation, and says her face is so swollen she looks like a chipmunk. (ANI)

Kaarstoe production at 33-35 mcm -Gassco

June 1 (Reuters) – Kaarstoe, one of Norway’s biggest gas processing plants, is still processing some 33 to 35 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas per day after a gas leak, operator Gassco said on Tuesday.

“It is not a total shutdown,” spokesman Kjell Varlo Larsen told Reuters. “Some parts of the processing facility are still running … Around 33-35 million cubic metres per day are still going.”

Kaarstoe co-owner Statoil previously told Reuters that production at the plant had shut down.

Larsen declined to say at what level of production Kaarstoe had prior to the leak.

The Kaarstoe facility, situated on Norway’s west coast, has a total processing capacity of 88 mcm per day.

It separates the rich gas arriving via the Statpipe and Aasgard transport pipelines into its various components and handles some condensate piped from the Sleipner field area.

Keeper Haddin says Clarke is the best in the business

St. Lucia (West Indies), May 14 (ANI): Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin has described skipper Michael Clarke as one of the best in the business in the modern era, and rubbished criticism about his form in the ongoing World Twenty20 championship in the Caribbean.

Clarke has made just 48 runs in the World T20 at an average of 12, but has had more success with his captaincy, guiding Australia to five wins from five outings.

His strike-rate in the tournament of 70.58 ranks him well below the other five batsmen in Australia”s top six, but Haddin says the skipper is desperately needed when Australia”s openers fail to fire.

””Michael”s still our best player. He”s still a world-class batsman. Class is always class. The role he plays here can”t be underestimated,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Haddin, as saying.

””Michael is there to do the role that”s pretty tough, running hard between the wickets. He comes out when we”re in trouble. You need explosive batsmen but you need players like Michael to play in any different situations,”” he added.

””His captaincy has been first class. All the teams have explosive bats and world-class bowlers, but what he”s brought to us is make sure we”re doing our little things best, a presence in the field, taking all the catches,”” Haddin said. (ANI)

Button hopes to repeat Monaco Grand Prix glory

London, May 12 (ANI): Jenson Button recalls the time when he had to jog 300 metres, up to the Prince of Monaco to receive his Monaco F1 trophy.

After describing the winning of the Grand Prix as his most embarrassing moment, he doesn’t mind reliving it.

“It”s going to stay in my mind forever, running up to Prince Albert of Monaco and saying, ”I”m sorry I parked in the wrong place”,” The Sun quoted the F1 champ as saying.

Describing how the Monaco win had a special place in his heart, Button said, “As he handed me the trophy and I lifted it above my head, it really dawned on me what I had achieved.

“To hammer a car around that Monaco circuit, in between those walls, the armco barriers – it”s like driving a go-kart round your living room!

“Every lap gets more and more difficult because the barriers seem to get closer and closer. Mentally it is so, so draining.

“It”s such a special race. I think every driver will agree with me that it”s the first race you would love to win in a Formula One car,” he said nostalgically. (ANI)

The mineral is used in porcelain and ceramic products.

10-year-old British girl fights off two men who tried to rape her in Dubai

Dubai, Apr 29(ANI): A ten-year-old British girl was reportedly attacked by two men who tried to rape her near her parent’s home in Dubai.

According to reports, the girl had gone to look for mice in a sandy play area close to her home, when one of the sex fiends grabbed her round the waist while the other attempted to remove her clothes.

“She was very lucky to escape and very brave to have fought back. Her parents were frantic when she disappeared and incredibly relieved when she was found,” the source added.

Palin’s answers were ‘scripted’ before TV debate with Biden: GOP strategist

London: Leading Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, the brain behind John McCain’s presidential campaign, has disclosed that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s answers during her TV debate with soon to be US Vice-President Joe Biden were almost rehearsed.

Pitted against the formidable Biden and with time running short, Palin’s preparations for the debate were so poor that the campaign was facing a “crisis” according to Schmidt, and according to him, to avert a complete debacle, Palin was thoroughly tutored.

“These are the questions. Here”s what he”s going to say. Here”s what your most effective response is. That we want to be able to come out of this debate saying you were on offence. If you hear ”A”, you go ahead and say ”B”, and so to that degree it was somewhat scripted,” Schmidt told Sky News.

Incidentally, Schmidt himself had recommended Palin to McCain. They later fell out with Palin accusing McCain’s team of being “too controlling” in her book ‘Going Rogue”.

Schmidt refused to respond to Palin’s accusations directly, saying “I don”t have anything more to add to it on a personal level other than to say that there was a good outcome to that debate.”

Meet UK’s smallest mum whose son will be double her height when grown

London, April 27 (ANI): Britain’s smallest mother has opened up about the difficulties she faces while caring for her 18-month-old baby son, who is almost as tall as her.

Amanda Moore, 25, suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta – commonly known as brittle bone disorder, which has left her measuring just 3ft 1in from head to toe.

She became the shortest woman ever to give birth in the UK when her son Aidan was delivered by caesarean section last year.

And Amanda, of Hinckley, Leicestershire, thinks that her son could end up as tall as his father Steven Fyfe, who is 6ft 1in.

“He takes after his dad. I always knew he would be taller than me but he’s shot up,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“When I sit on the floor to play with him, he is taller than me already. He’s getting so big and strong that soon we’ll have to tell him to be gentle with Mummy.

“It’s been a struggle because he’s been running rings around me since he was crawling. But now he’s walking he’s more than a handful for someone my size,” she added. (ANI)
