CR clears coach from accident site

Mumbai, May 29 — A day after Hindustan Times reported that the Central Railway had not cleared the site of a railway accident that had occurred more than six months ago, one of the coaches that was lying precariously close to the railway line was moved. On Monday, May 24, Hindustan Times had reported that 11 coaches of the Bangalore-bound 6505 Down Gandhidham-Bengaluru Express that had derailed between Bhiwandi Road and Kopar stations in November 2009 were still lying at the same site.

One of the derailed air-conditioned coaches had been placed on wooden blocks very close to the tracks on a curve on the Diva-Vasai section of Central Railway’s Mumbai division. The coach was removed on Tuesday.

“It is not correct to say that the Central Railway has not bothered to correct the accident site. In fact, of the 11 coaches, ten coaches have been removed so far,” a Central Railway spokesperson said requesting anonymity.

“The other coach will be soon removed. The coach that is now lying at the accident site is at a sufficiently safe distance from the running track.

” When HT visited the site on Thursday, one coach was still there. A few wheels, batteries and technical equipment were strewn around.

“There is no confusion regarding the authority on who will clear these coaches,” the spokesperson said referring to some railway officials’ statements that since the coaches belong to the South Western Railway, the decision on what needs to be done with the coaches lies with them.

Jennifer Aniston keeps fit by running around horse track

Washington, September 20 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston has been running hard to maintain her fitness while shooting new film ‘The Bounty.’

The actress reportedly woke up at 5a.m in the morning and ran laps around New Jersey’s Monmouth Park racecourse to the surprise of the crewmembers.

“She showed up every morning at 5am to run laps on the giant oval for a solid hour before cameras rolled,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

“She’s really disciplined about keeping fit. She’d get there before everyone else and zip around that huge track like a winner!” the source added.

The ‘Break-Up’ star apparently prefers running to other fitness regimes as it keeps her thighs and calves toned.

Even earlier this year, it was reported that she woke up at 3am to work out so that she could stick to her busy shooting schedule.

A source said at the time: “Jennifer has had a totally overhaul for this film. She wants to be seriously fit, yet remain curvy.

“There are a lot of early starts on set, so she has had to get up at 3am to get two hours in the gym before getting ready for filming.” (ANI)

What makes cheetah the fastest running animal on Earth

London, July 11 (ANI): Using high-speed cameras, a team of scientists is attempting to discover exactly what makes cheetahs the fastest running animals on the planet.

According to a report by BBC News, a Royal Veterinary College (RVC) team is using high-speed cameras and a sensitive track to monitor the big cats as they sprint.

The study is being carried out with North African cheetahs from ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in England.

Cheetahs can reach speeds of at least 104km/h (64mph) and they can achieve their top speed in just a few paces.

“The cheetah is fascinating because it can run 50 percent faster than any of the other animals we are familiar with, so in terms of understanding what limits how fast you can run, the cheetah is a wonderful animal to study,” said professor Alan Wilson, head of the structure and motion laboratory at RVC.

Just as most domestic cats cannot resist chasing a piece of string, cheetahs also find the temptation of some twitching twine too difficult to ignore, especially if a tasty treat is dangling from the end.

So, the research team entices the zoo’s cheetahs to run by attaching some choice chicken pieces to a loop of fast-moving string that is pulled along the enclosure by an electric motor.

As the cats chase the chicken feast, four high-speed cameras, which record at 1,000 frames per second, capture their every move.

“We use two cameras on each side of the enclosure so we can see the cheetah from both sides,” said Penny Hudson, a PhD student at RVC.

“When a cheetah gallops, it does different things with either side of its body – it has an asymmetric gait,” she added.

The scientists are also using special plates that are embedded within the cheetahs’ running track.

“The plates are like sophisticated weighing scales that are able to measure all the forces going through their legs,” Hudson explained.

The scientists are going to compare their results with other studies that have been carried out on greyhounds, which can reach top speeds of approximately 60km/h (40mph).

“Cheetahs can run much faster than a racing greyhound. So, we’re trying to get them running at similar speeds to see what they do that’s the same and what they do that makes them go that little bit faster,” Hudson said.

The data from the experiments will be used to examine the forces and dynamics of the cats’ legs, their speed, the length of each stride, as well as joint angles and posture. (ANI)

Mariah Carey keen to start a family

New York, Mar 26 (ANI): Pop star Mariah Carey has revealed her plan to start a family with her husband Nick Cannon, and she is keen to have a baby girl.

According to reports, the entertainer has splashed a whopping 200,000 dollars on baby furniture at a children’s store in San Francisco for the new Hollywood home she intends to buy with her hubby.

Mariah is said to have set her sights on the David Saperstein estate in the exclusive western L.A. neighborhood of Holmby Hills, worth a whopping 125 million dollars.

If Mariah buys the mansion, her neighbors would be the Beckham brood and Hugh Hefner.

The French Chateau-style mansion, which has been on the market for months, includes Italian marble walls, French limestone floors, gold-embossed leather wall coverings, a nine-car garage, ballroom, private running track and movie screening room.

“It’s 45,000 square feet and looks like a European castle. It’s so big, it can’t even be called a mansion – it’s similar to Buckingham Palace!” the New York Daily quoted a source as saying.

Though Mariah has many plans in her head, there is no indication that she is expecting. She is not even thinking about adoption.

“Mariah has tossed around the idea of adopting,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Cannon revealed that he was planning on kids “soon. Like a couple [of] years soon!” (ANI)
