Meet Prince Charles and Camilla, the ‘wedding planners’!

London, Sept 20 (ANI): Prince Charles and wife Camilla are turning wedding planners and “loaning out” their country retreat of Highgrove House to wannabe brides and grooms.

And included in the package will be the royal couple’s shared “expertise”.

Like Charles and Camilla did at their Windsor wedding four years ago, couples will be encouraged to “keep it simple”, say reports.

As per rumours, the first pair to enjoy a “Charles and Camilla wedding” are TV babe Jenni Falconer and her actor fiancĂ© James Midgley, reports The Daily Star.

A royal source said: “Obviously with it being their house they would want control of the event. But they also recognise what a great opportunity it would be to showcase their home.

“Highgrove is an absolutely fantastic building and would make a wonderful venue for a wedding and reception.”

The nine-bedroom country house on a 37-acre estate near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, was bought for Charles in 1980.

A source said: “Charles is hugely proud of Highgrove. It’s a wonderful property and he has spent thousands of pounds on the gardens and grounds. I’m sure by holding weddings there Charles would take great pleasure being the host.

“And he could use them to promote the Duchy Originals organic products he’s involved with.” (ANI)

Louis XVI’s final testament discovered two centuries after his death

London, May 21 (ANI): “Declaration to all the French”, the final testament written by Louis XVI shortly before his execution, has been recovered more than two centuries after it disappeared during the French Revolution.

The king wrote the testament the day before fleeing Paris in 1791.

Louis along with Marie-Antoinettte tried to reach the royalist fortress town of Montmédy on the northeastern border of France, however, while on the way, he was arrested at Varennes-en-Argonne. Later, he was brought back to the French capital, reports The Telegraph.

The royal couple was imprisoned. During the trial, prosecutors cited the declaration as proof that he wanted to “plunge France into the horrors of civil war”.

He was found guilty of treason and guillotined in 1793.

In the text, Louis accused revolutionary lawmakers of attacking the “dignity of the French Crown” and defended the king’s right to an absolute veto.

“French people and above all Parisians… return to your king. He will always be your father, your best friend,” he writes.

The testament will be on public display by the end of the month at Paris’ Museum of Letters and Manuscripts. (ANI)

Patil seeks new face for Indo-Spanish ties

Madrid, Apr.22 (ANI): Visiting Indian President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil has expressed hope about the relationship between India and Spain getting a new face.

“We are keen to strengthen our bilateral relations with Spain and I have no doubt that the city of Madrid will play an increasingly larger role, be it in the trade, economic and financial aspects or in the cultural, educational and scientific spheres,” Patil said.

Talking to reporters accompanying the Presient on her week-long visit to Spain and Poland, Nalin Suri, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, said the President had conveyed this message to Spanish King Juan Carlos-I and Queen Sofia during her luncheon meeting with them.

According to Suri, she said that her visit to Spain symbolized India’s desire to take its relationship with Spain to a higher plane. The Spanish royal couple responded by saying that Spain would do every thing it could to develop and diversify its relations with India.

The Mayor of the Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardon Jimenez, presented President Patil with the Gold Key of Madrid City at a ceremonial function at the City Hall here.

Suri said the fact that the Mayor of Madrid had presented the city’s key to the President should not be seen as just a symbolic gesture, as Madrid is a powerhouse as far as the Spanish economy is concerned.

“You would notice that the mayor identified the areas of cooperation to build stronger relations between the two countries,” he said.

Suri said the fact that both India and Spain are fighting terrorism is important in the context that the Spanish side attaches “as much important as we do to fighting this menace and we have agreed that cooperation in this felid would further strengthen relations.”

He said that emphasis would be given to promoting greater people-to-people contact between the two countries as more business delegations are exploring opportunities for trade and commerce. Suri said that visa reforms would be put in place to felicitate citizens of both countries. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)

Japan’s royal couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Tokyo – Japanese Emperor Akihito tearfully thanked his wife, Empress Michiko, for her support Friday as they marked their 50th wedding anniversary at their palace in Tokyo. While expressing heartfelt gratitude to well-wishers, the 75-year-old emperor said he felt bad about receiving congratulations from many citizens while the nation suffers through a recession.

The emperor choked up at a press conference as he looked back on the years he has spent with his wife, who was the first commoner to marry into Japan’s imperial family.

Michiko, 74, said it was like a dream to be able to celebrate 50 years of marriage, recalling the day of her wedding when, she said, she was “full of anxiety and a lonesome feeling.”

“She has offered tremendous support to me,” Jiji Press quoted the emperor as saying.

The couple is to receive family members and other well-wishers at events throughout the day, the Imperial Household Agency said. (dpa)
