Yingli Green Energy Auctions Original 2010 FIFA World Cup(TM) Football to Help Football for Hope Campaign

BAODING, China and WAGHAUESEL, Germany, July 9 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ — Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (NYSE: YGE) (“Yingli Green Energy” or the “Company”), a leading solar energy company and one of the world’s largest vertically integrated photovoltaic manufacturers, which holds the brand “Yingli Solar,” has auctioned off an original football signed by the world’s best football players, to Wirsol Solar AG for 21,000 euros. The proceeds will help to fund “20 Centres for 2010,” which is part of the Football for Hope movement and the official campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup(TM).

The creme de la creme, including Kaka, Ronaldo and Messi have been immortalised through their names on an original 2010 FIFA World Cup(TM) football. The ball has travelled all around the world collecting what makes it so valuable — the autographs of 11 of the world’s best players. It is impossible to estimate the ball’s intangible value, but at least the auction established what it is worth in monetary terms. The founders of Wirsol Solar AG won the ball with their bid of 21,000 euros at an auction organised by FIFA World Cup(TM) sponsor Yingli Solar.

The proceeds from the auction will go to Football for Hope, a movement that uses the power of the game for positive social change. It is led by FIFA, the world football governing body, and streetfootballworld. “20 Centres for 2010″ is part of the Football for Hope movement and the official campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup(TM). The aim is to achieve positive social change by combining the love of football with programmes reaching out to young people and addressing challenges with education and public health programmes.

20 centres are being built in structurally weak regions in Africa and will remain as a social legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup(TM) long after the tournament is over. Yingli Green Energy will actively support the campaign by providing solar power to training centres across Africa. Social responsibility is an important pillar of Yingli Green Energy’s core values. The company is engaged in a variety of community-focused projects around the world — aiming to make solar power a sustainable and cost-effective energy for the world.

Teamwork is crucial — in football and in the solar industry

“This football is a wonderful symbol of the values our company stands for,” said Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy. “In the solar industry, too, it is all about the best players reaching a common goal by working as a team. That’s why we’re very happy to team up with Wirsol,” Mr. Miao continued.

“We just thought it was a great idea that the world’s best football players have made this gesture towards supporting sustainable development projects in Africa,” commented Wirsol founder Markus Wirth. This is why he was pleased to have made the winning offer in the face of competition from quite a few other bidders at the Intersolar trade fair, where the ball was auctioned by the Company.

The auction’s proceeds were presented on June 30, 2010 to Federico Addiechi, Head of FIFA’s Corporate Social Responsibility department, during a press conference in Johannesburg organised by Yingli Green Energy.

Delight all around — 11 football superstars signed the ball:

The dream team of the world’s greatest football players who signed the ball is made up as follows: Kaka (Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite), Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas Fernandez, Daniel Alves da Silva, John George Terry, Patrice Evra, Steven George Gerrard, Xavier Hernandez i Creus, Andres Iniesta Lujan, Fernando Torres and Lionel Andres Messi.

Show panache, grow a ‘tache, 60,000 urge Portugal

(Reuters) – Portugal should take on razor-sharp opposition at the World Cup with bushy moustaches, according to 60,000 web users following the team’s fortunes in South Africa.

Sports

A campaign on Facebook, the social network site, has called for Carlos Queiroz’s men to adopt the traditional Portuguese ‘tache rather than remain smartly clean shaven like leading striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The page’s gallery of moustaches features football stars, particularly from the 1980s, who extended the popular, but now dated, image of the Portuguese man as heavily mustachioed.

They include Carlos Manuel, whose mustache covered both lips when he scored the goal that took Portugal to the 1986 finals, and winger Chalana, dubbed “Chalanix” at Euro 1984 for his likeness to comic hero Asterix with his bushy ‘tache and speed.

“For what a mustache does for our national side, it is an obligation to go to the World Cup with one. For the best coaches and players, we want a mustache to unite us,” the page says.

“After reaching 50,000 fans, the goal is 100,000. But the main goal is to get all the players to grow a mustache, which will always be a bit harder,” said web designer Joao Carmona, who started the campaign after a chat with friends in February.

To his disappointment, Portugal players have not heeded the call, most looking embarrassed when asked if they will adhere.

Defender Bruno Alves caused a stir when he appeared in a friendly with a thin mustache but has since shaved it off.

Portugal drew their first match Tuesday 0-0 against Ivory Coast and next play North Korea in Group G in Cape Town on Monday. They finish their group matches against Brazil Friday in Durban.

Famed Ronaldo not a focus for unknown North Koreans

(Reuters) – The world’s most recognized player Cristiano Ronaldo takes to the field against some of the most secretive at the World Cup Monday although North Korea’s manager says the Portugal winger will not be a focus.

Sports

“Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo is a world renowned player who receives a lot of attention but in our case, in our game, we’re not going to focus especially on one person,” North Korea coach Kim Jong-hun told reporters ahead of the game in Cape Town.

North Korea lost their Group G opener 2-1 to Brazil but won respect for the way they held the five-times world champions until the 55th minute, and scored a stunning consolation goal.

“I’m not going to talk about overall strategy or tactics and I’m not going to say I will have man-to-man defense. It might be needed… it will depend on how the game flows,” he said.

But Portugal, who drew their opener 0-0 with Ivory Coast, seemed skeptical of claims Ronaldo would not be singled out for special attention.

“It is normal. It happens at club and national level that the most creative players are sometimes fouled more frequently,” said Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz.

DANGEROUS TEAM

Ronaldo himself said he was familiar with his North Korea opponents and praised their speed but warned they would suffer if they did play man-to-man.

“Obviously, I know the players. We have seen two videos yesterday and the game versus Brazil. They are a dangerous team with fast players and I know it will be difficult.”

“The counter attack is their strongest weapon. If they play man-to-man against us they will suffer. That is their most likely tactic in my opinion,” Ronaldo added.

The North Korea coach said reports that four of his players had gone missing were totally unfounded and added that all were fit to play. The squad trained at Green Point stadium Sunday.

“Management of the team and players is my responsibility and there were never any team members missing,” said coach Kim. “We have been together every day, we have eaten and slept and trained together. That report was totally unfounded.”

The team had watched footage of North Korea’s remarkable match against Portugal at the 1966 World Cup in England when the Koreans took a 3-0 lead but Portugal staged an astonishing comeback to win the quarter-final 5-3, he added.

“The players have seen the video footage and they have heard a lot about that game…” added Kim who was nine years old at the time. “I remember the game very well. The players will try to make up for the disappointment this time.”

Portugal plot three-phased attack on North Korea

(Reuters) – Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz plans three-phased assault on what he expects to be a highly defensive North Korea on Monday as he plots a course through Group G into the last 16 of the World Cup.

Sports

After their goalless draw with Ivory Coast and a daunting clash with Brazil still to come, Monday’s clash with the tournament’s rank outsiders will make or break Portugal’s chances of progress.

A win is obviously essential but Queiroz said the need for a boost to their goal difference can only be factored in once the foundations are set.

“It is an extremely important game, decisive for the final placings. It’s all or nothing as far as we are concerned and the players are well aware of that,” Queiroz told reporters after his team trained at Green Point stadium on Sunday.

“We will play tomorrow with three issues, which we can’t confuse.

“First, we have to play entertaining, enthusiastic and rapid football, much faster than against Ivory Coast, to find a way to win.

“Then we have to score goals but we can’t even talk about that until we have scored one. Then, after all that, we can look at the league table.

“It is a phased approach, we cannot start at the end.”

Having seen North Korea defend so diligently against Brazil Queiroz knows his team will have to be creative to find a way through.

“We have to play with our intelligence,” he said. “Sometimes it is said that the most direct route is circular and we certainly can’t spend the game banging our heads against the wall.

“Ivory Coast defended from midfield but from what we saw against Brazil, North Korea will sit much deeper. We have to use our technical prowess, especially in the last third, to force them into errors.”

One of the keys best suited to unlocking such a massed defense is a player with outstanding individual skill and Queiroz is fortunate that in Cristiano Ronaldo he has one of the absolute best in that department.

Though he has not scored an international goal for 16 months Ronaldo remains confident that having got the first game out of the way, the 2006 semi-finalists will find their feet.

“The most difficult phase is over, we were anxious in that first game, many of the players had not been at a World Cup before and we knew it would be complicated,” he said.

“There are fewer pressures now, I think we have overcome the greatest barrier and will win tomorrow.

“As for me, the goals will surface tomorrow or next year, I have faith. If I don’t score that’s not the end of the world, the issue is for us to win.

“If it’s a large margin then all the better but 1-0 will be satisfactory because we don’t fear Brazil. They are a great team, five-time champions, but we are going to face them in the last game with the belief we can win.”

Portugal plan all-out attack versus North Korea

(Reuters) – Portugal need to switch to attack mode against North Korea on Monday to get the big win they may need to open the door to the World Cup second round.

Sports

With Portugal having drawn their Group G opener against Ivory Coast, and with Brazil still to come, second place in the group was always likely to be decided on goal difference.

But North Korea’s battling, well-organized display in their 2-1 loss to the five-times champions has merely made the 2006 runners-up focus even more on finding a way to goal.

“The first game is one in which the team takes fewer risks because naturally they play with an eye on what comes ahead,” said Portugal manager Carlos Queiroz.

“In the second game everything will be much more clear as there is no room to wait. We have to start making things happen and not waiting for them to happen. We have to put our cards on the table and attack.”

Portugal fans and many neutrals will hope a more attacking approach provides the stage for Cristiano Ronaldo to thrive.

The world’s most expensive player has not scored a competitive international goal for almost two years, although he went close against Ivory Coast when he smacked a long-range shot against a post.

APPEAL REJECTED

FIFA rejected Portugal’s appeal against the yellow card he got in the first game so he will have to keep his cool in what is likely to be 90 minutes of close attention to avoid another booking and a ban that would rule him out of the Brazil game.

Queiroz is likely to recall Simao Sabrosa after wide man Danny failed to reproduce his lively in recent friendlies.

However, there is concern that Deco may not be fit to start after injuring his hip in training.

It has been an eventful week for the midfielder who was replaced by Tiago after 62 minutes of the opener, criticized the manager for his tactics and then had to apologize.

North Korea earned widespread praise for their work ethic, discipline and technical ability against Brazil and Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles said he expected more of the same.

“I think they are likely to go in as they did against Brazil, with many men behind the ball and we have to be ready and work to break that defensive barrier.”

For North Korea, the prospect of playing Portugal inevitably brings up discussion of the 1966 World Cup.

Rank outsiders, the Asians had already stunned Italy in the group phase when they raced into a 3-0 lead over Eusebio’s talented Portugal team in the quarter-finals.

The Portuguese stormed back to win 5-3 and, until last week, that was the last the World Cup saw of North Korea.

In truth, other than their 90 minutes at Ellis Park, there has not been much more seen of them since they returned.

Withdrawn and secretive, little is know of how the team or management reacted to an encouraging opening performance.

Coach Kim Jong-hun was hardly dropping any hints when he said: “We will review our tactics and decide whether we need to be a bit more attacking or a bit more defensive.”

Mourinho poised as Real sack Pellegrini

Real Madrid were poised to appoint Jose Mourinho as their coach after the Spanish giants sacked Manuel Pellegrini on Wednesday.

Following weeks of frantic media speculation, Real ditched Chilean Pellegrini in favour of the flamboyant Mourinho, who led Inter Milan to the Champions League title and the Italian league and cup double last season.

President Florentino Perez told a packed news conference in the bowels of the Bernabeu stadium that the 47-year-old Portuguese would join Real once the club had agreed with Inter on terminating his contract.

“I am ready to admit to some mistakes but the hiring of Mourinho, one of the world’s best coaches, is an opportunity that this Real Madrid, which always fights for excellence, could not afford to miss,” Perez said.

“We are absolutely convinced that we need a fresh impulse and that a coach like Mourinho can be the person to take charge of the squad for the next few years,” he added.

“Madrid bets on stability but stability for the fans is winning and being leaders. Stability is not about keeping on a coach.”

Construction magnate Perez said he hoped to complete the deal for Mourinho soon, adding that he had not yet spoken to the former Porto and Chelsea coach about potential additions to the squad.

SPECTACULAR PROJECT

Pellegrini left Villarreal to join Real last June, becoming the cornerstone of Perez’s big-money bid to bring trophies back to the Bernabeu.

Perez invested a quarter of a billion euros ($307 million) in players, including a record 94 million on Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, and vowed to build a “spectacular sporting project” to put the club back at the forefront of European and world football.

Pellegrini was charged with rebuilding the nine-times European champions and making them into a team capable of challenging Barcelona while entertaining a hugely demanding and impatient fan base.

But Real were dumped out of the Champions League by Olympique Lyon at the last-16 stage, humiliated by third-tier Alorcon in the King’s Cup and ended the season three points behind La Liga champions Barca.

“We thought it through a lot and it’s not just the fact that we didn’t win any titles,” Perez said.

“We believe that it’s the right moment to give a fresh boost and bet on one of the best coaches in the world.”

Mourinho said earlier on Wednesday it would be “impossible” for him to stay at Inter.

CORRECTED – Real sack Pellegrini, poised to appoint Mourinho

Real Madrid have sacked coach Manuel Pellegrini and will appoint Jose Mourinho to replace him once they have reached agreement with Inter Milan about ending his contract with the Serie A club.

But Real were dumped out of the Champions League by Olympique Lyon, humiliated by third-tier Alorcon in the King’s Cup and ended the season three points behind La Liga champions Barca.

Portuguese Mourinho has made no secret of his wish to coach Real and will join the La Liga giants having led Inter to three major trophies last season, the Champions League and Italian league and cup double.

The former Porto and Chelsea coach said on Wednesday that it would be “impossible” for him to stay at Inter.

Real sack Pellegrini, poised to appoint Mourinho

Real Madrid have sacked coach Manuel Pellegrini and will appoint Jose Mourinho to replace him once they have reached agreement with Inter Milan about ending his contract with the Serie A club.

“I am ready to admit to some mistakes but the hiring of Jose Mourinho, one of the world’s best coaches, is an opportunity that this Real Madrid, which always fights for excellence, could not afford to miss,” Real president Florentino Perez told a news conference on Wednesday.

“We are absolutely convinced that we need a fresh impulse and that a coach like Mourinho can be the person to take charge of the squad for the next few years,” he added.

Pellegrini left Villarreal to join Real last June and become the cornerstone of Perez’s big-money bid to bring trophies back to the Bernabeu.

Barcelona’s 80-mn pounds bid for ace striker Rooney

London, May 19 (ANI): Barcelona is preparing a massive bid of 80 million pounds for Manchester United’s ace striker Wayne Rooney.

Double Footballer of the Year Rooney, 24, was with England’s squad in the Austrian Alps unaware of Barcelona making discreet moves to take him to La Liga.

Barcelona’s interest in Rooney has similarities with Real Madrid’s pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo and football power on the pitch and politics off it are interwoven in their interest in him, The Daily Express reports.

Europe’s most attractive club has been knocked off their perch after their Champions League semi-final defeat against Inter Milan.

Coach Pep Guardiola is keen to restore the side to the top immediately and will seek reinforcements, the paper said.

Barcelona also has advanced plans to sign Valencia’s David Villa and Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, but the real coup would be a successful move for Rooney, it added.

The Barcelona camp has activated agents to sound out the possibility of a Rooney move.

Rooney is still under contract with United until 2012, but selling the club’s biggest asset will help them prevent making a loss of millions of pounds. (ANI)

Nike ad shows Roo living in squalor recalling shattered footie dream

London, May 15 (ANI): In a grim advertisement showing how life could change if he flops at the World Cup, Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is seen quitting football, growing a belly and living in squalor, unable to accept his shattered dream.

The Nike commercial, which is to hit screens across the globe next Saturday, features a host of aces, including Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Ronaldinho (A C Milan) and Fabregas (Arsenal).

According to The Sun, the opening scenes of the advertisement see the 24-year-old Man United hero slipping a pass to Theo Walcott in the dying seconds of a World Cup game against France – with the score 1-1.

But Franck Ribery intercepts, ending hopes of England glory.

Wayne drops to his knees, deep in thought as he considers his life hitting rock bottom.

Evra to quit Man U to join Real Madrid or Inter Milan

London, May 11 (ANI): French defender Patrice Evra is ready to quit Manchester United this summer, with Real Madrid and Inter Milan ready to pay 18 million pounds for him.

Evra’s close friend Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended him to Real Madrid.

Since his seven million pound move from Monaco four-and-half-years ago, Evra has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world.

He has two years left on his current deal, worth around 80000 pounds-a-week, The Sun reports.

A sale would give United a serious profit on a player whose value will plummet next summer with only a year left on his contract. (ANI)

Daniel Radcliffe wants Cristiano Ronaldo’s six-pack!

London, May 11 (ANI): Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe wants a body just like soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s, it has emerged.

The actor, who has few shirtless scenes in musical ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,’ is apparently inspired by the Portugese footballer.

“Daniel wants to completely re-sculpt his body and has taken Ronaldo as his inspiration,” the Sun quoted a pal, as saying.

The friend added: “He envies his muscle definition and is hoping to get a similar six-pack for himself.

“Daniel is taking his fitness regime really seriously. He”s stopped drinking, knocked the fags on the head and is watching every mouthful.

“He put on a little timber last year and is keen to get down to a more svelte shape.

“He”s already lost nearly a stone in the past month.” (ANI)

Glazers snub 1.5 billion pound bid for Manchester United

London, May 7 (ANI): The US-based Glazer family has reportedly rejected a 1.5 billion bid for Manchester United.

The group of wealthy United fans were understood to be planning a 1.2 billion pound offer for the club this summer.

But news of the Glazers” reluctance to accept a higher offer, believed to be from a Middle East consortium last year, is a massive stumbling block, The Sun reports.

United supporters have shown their discontent for the Glazer regime with their ”green and gold” protests at Old Trafford this season.

Fans are unhappy with the lack on investment in the team, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo”s world record 80-million-pound sale to Real Madrid last year.

Supporters are also worried by the club”s spiralling debts which stand at over 700-million-pounds. (ANI)

Capello blames ‘non spending’ for absence of English clubs in Champions League

London, May 6 (ANI): England coach Fabio Capello has said that failure to strengthen the team by big Premier League clubs is the reason behind no England representation in the Champions League semi-finals.

Liverpool’s 30 million pounds sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid disturbed their central midfield play, while Manchester United cashed in on 80 million pounds Cristiano Ronaldo and let Carlos Tevez sign up for bitter rivals Manchester City.

Arsenal dumped Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure, earning 50 million pounds, and Chelsea acquired no big players. And the few who were signed by Premier League clubs, have largely failed to live up to their fees, The Sun reports.

Capello will be benefited and his England stars will get a decent rest before the World Cup starts on June 11.

“It is always better to have players who have been winning than ones unhappy because the national championship or the Champions League went wrong. Liverpool sold players and those who arrived did not meet expectations,” Capello said.

“Arsenal is unlucky. They also sold some players, didn’t get any others and important ones who were left were injured at key moments. United sold Ronaldo and Tevez and the players they bought instead are maybe not as good,” he added.

“Chelsea did buy Zhirkov but then nothing more. None of those teams strengthened. In England, only Manchester City did,” he added. (ANI)

Ronaldo rescues Real to keep title push alive

Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed an 89th minute winner for Real Madrid as they came from behind to beat Osasuna 3-2 at home to stay hot on the heels of leaders Barcelona in La Liga on Sunday.

The world’s most expensive player rescued his team, heading in Gonzalo Higuain’s cross from a metre out, for his second of the night and 22nd of the campaign.

Real made life difficult for themselves against mid-table visitors twice going behind to goals from Carlos Aranda and Krisztian Vadocz. Ronaldo and Marcelo grabbed the equalisers before the break.

Barca have 90 points after beating Villarreal 4-1 away on Saturday and are one point ahead of Real, with three matches to play.

“It seemed like an easy game on paper but it turned out to be tough. This often happens in these types of games. You have to show plenty of fighting spirit to win,” Ronaldo told Spanish television.

“The win was the most important thing because we still have hopes of beating Barcelona to the title, though they won’t give it up easily.”

Real made an awful start when defender Raul Albiol failed to control a ball and allowed Aranda to break away and score after only seven minutes.

Ronaldo put them level in the 25th after streaking off the left flank to score from the edge of the area, but the hosts’ were found wanting at the back again from an Osasuna throw in.

They failed to clear the ball and Vadocz smashed a spectacular volley past Iker Casillas in the 43rd, though Real only needed a minute to equalise this time, Marcelo nodding in from close range.

OPEN GOAL

A nail-biting second half had Casillas saving point-blank from Aranda and Osasuna’s Masoud missing an open goal before Ronaldo rose above the mediocrity to keep the title race alive with his late strike.

In the late game, Real Mallorca kept up their push for a place in the Champions League next season, retaking fourth place from Sevilla with a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

Gonzalo Castro, Nunes and Aritz Aduriz scored the goals that moved the islanders on to 59 points two ahead of Sevilla, who had earlier won a dress rehearsal for the King’s Cup final by beating Atletico Madrid 3-1 at home.

Any doubts that Atletico would be taking it easy after also reaching the Europa League final three days ago, were dispelled in a frenetic opening, even though they had fielded a weakened side.

Brazil’s Luis Fabiano put Sevilla ahead from a corner in the fifth minute and almost immediately Portugal’s Tiago volleyed the visitors level after a free kick.

Two disputed penalties, scored by Alvaro Negredo in the 12th and 39th minutes, put the hosts back in control and they held firm to take a psychological advantage into the Cup final at the Nou Camp on May 19.
