Anne Hathaway makes no claim over former conman lover’s gifts

New York, May 18 (ANI): Actress Anne Hathaway has made no claim over the gifts she received from her ex-boyfriend/scam-artist Raffaello Follieri.

The stunner, 27, had until February to file a petition asserting ownership of her gifts from con man Follieri, but neither she nor any other “third parties” have staked a claim, prosecutors claimed.

In August 20008, the actress coughed up a dozen luxury items after Follieri was busted on charges of ripping off some 13 million dollars from investors.

The items include two Rolex watches, a pair of silver-colored earrings with “blue and clear stones,” a silver-colored chain with a cross pendant, two gold-colored rings, a five-strand pearl necklace and a Louis Vuitton box.

The goods will soon be auctioned off to repay Follieri”s victims, including supermarket magnate and Bill Clinton pal Ron Burkle.

Prosecutors are waiting for a final forfeiture order to take official ownership of Hathaway”s former accessories, reports the New York Post.

Manhattan federal Judge John Koeltl said he would issue a final forfeiture order if no objections are filed by May 26. (ANI)

Italian police seize Maradona’s diamond studs

Rome, Sep 19 (ANI): Beleaguered football legend Diego Maradona had to hand over his diamond studs to police as part payment for the millions he owes the Italian tax authorities.

Italian officials paid the holidaying Argentinean coach a visit at the luxury hotel he was staying in and seized the earrings worth nearly 4,000 pounds, Sky News reports.

Police claimed that Maradona still owes some 20 million pounds, dating back to his seven-year stint at the Italian club Napoli, where he frequently failed to pay income tax.

After fleeing Buenos Aires on Monday following Argentina’s four defeats in five matches of 2010 World Cup qualifier, Maradona, 48, is currently staying at a spa in the town of Merano in north-eastern Italy, where he is trying to lose weight.

Italian authorities had seized two of his Rolex watches worth 11,000 pounds in 2006, when he was staying near Naples.

In 2005, they seized the money he was to receive for taking part in a TV dancing show.

Four years earlier, he was met by 20 police officers as he got off a plane in Rome.

Italy’s Supreme Court ordered the ex-footballer to pay 36 million euros in unpaid taxes.

According to the association of Italian taxpayers, Maradona still has 22.4 million euros to pay.

Recently, Brazilian legend Pele took a blow at Maradona, saying he feels another Argentine-born player, Alfredo di Stefano, is the best player ever.

“Maradona was a great player, but he could not kick with his right foot and did not score goals with his head.

The only time he scored an important goal with his head, it turned out he had used his hand,” Pele said referring to Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in 1986 World Cup. (ANI)

Man arrested for raiding ManU midfielder’s home

London, Mar 4 (ANI): A man has been arrested on suspicion of raiding Manchester United footballer Darren Fletcher’s house and threatening his fiancee at knife point.

The Scotland midfielder’s front door was kicked in and his house in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, was raided while he was away in Italy on European duty on February 23.

Three hooded men grabbed his fiancie Hayley Grice by the hair and ripped the engagement ring from her finger, Sky News reported.

Her mother was also threatened and forced to hand over jewellery while his twin sons, Jack and Tyler, slept on.

Police said a 28-year-old man had been held over the raid at the player’s 1.5 million pound mansion.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and has been bailed until May 14.

Fletcher, 25, is thought to be the 14th top-flight player to have been targeted in Manchester and Merseyside in the past three years.

Expensive jewellery, Rolex watches, and sports cars worth hundreds of thousand of pounds have all been taken during the break-ins.

Detectives said they were keeping an open mind on whether the raid was linked to any others. (ANI)
