Sadbhavna Divas is celebrated on August 20 in India in the memory of Late prime minister Rajeev Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the man who believed in peace.

Importance of the day is with the regard of conservation of greenery. During the whole day lots of cultural festivals and competitions are organised which makes people aware about various aspect of conservation of plants,water and also do plantation.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders paid homage to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 65th birth anniversary Thursday, joining his widow and Congress president Sonia, at Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial Veer Bhumi here.

The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation will distribute Rajeev Gandhi National Awards to recognise the excellence achieved by Indians in different fields,this year’s winners are:

Shahid Kapoor (Best Actor), Katrina Kaif (Best Actress), Vineet Jain (Industrialist), Ramesh Chandra Agarwal (Journalism), Sam Pitroda (Global Indian), Dr. Narendra Jadhav (Educationist), Dr. G. Madhavan Nair (Super Achiever), Krushnaa Patil (Women Achiever), Avika Gor (Child Prodigy), Rajashree Birla (Social Field), Rohit Kochhar (Young Entrepreneur).

In the year 1984 after his mother’s assassination Rajiv became the youngest Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy at the age of 40. He headed the country for five full years from 1984-89 largely riding on a huge sympathy wave.
