Cate Blanchett says Russell Crowe is ”not always easy”

London, May 21 (ANI): Cate Blanchett has revealed that working with Russell Crowe is ”not always easy”.

The Oscar winning actress plays Maid Marian alongside Russell in Ridley Scott”s epic blockbuster ‘Robin Hood’ and hinted at a sometimes tense atmosphere on set.

“Russell is not always easy – his reputation both as an actor and as an intimidating presence precedes him, but he”s always after making the best possible film,” the Mirror quoted her as telling Parade.com.

“I”m not backward in coming forward, so we had some, shall I say, ”robust” conversations. When I”m working, I like to push it right to the edge. I believe if you”re going to do something, you should do it all the way,” she added.

The ‘Elizabeth’ star also said that she tried to hold her own with the guys.

“The biggest challenge was they expected me to look more gorgeous than my male co-stars, which isn”t easy when you”re doing action stuff,” she revealed.

“I loved the horse riding, and the moment where Marian gets all chainmailed up and rides off into battle. We had to ride these wild, wild ponies; some of them were really difficult to get on and none of them had saddles. We all galloped off and it was thrilling,” she added. (ANI)

Russell Crowe admits to Robin Hood set being fatal

London, May 18 (ANI): Russell Crowe has said that the set of his new epic ‘Robin Hood’ was dangerous – a lot of people from the crew ended up with serious injuries during the shoot.

The Oscar-winner plays the English folk hero in Sir Ridley Scott”s adaptation of the classic tale, which also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion.

The movie includes several high-action battle scenes where hundreds of extras play out fight sequences – and Crowe admits many of the actors suffered for their art on the movie battlefield.

“We had 15 people carried off a battlefield at one point. One guy got his eye poked out with a pike. Another guy broke an arm and a leg falling off a horse. The scale of it is enormous… In this film you had 130 horses doing a full-speed gallop charge into 600 guys on the ground. Every man on a horse did half-a-dozen fight moves before spinning around and coming back,” The Daily Express quoted the actor as telling the Mirror.

Crowe revealed that everyone including the director himself was involved in the action scenes.

“Ridley jumped into the waves and grabbed this 15-ton barge with both hands, bum, knee and all, and starts trying to push it out of the shot. When it was clear he was not going to win his lone battle against the barge he looked back at the beach and said, ”Well, what are you waiting for?” That”s leadership,” Crowe added. (ANI)

Robin Hood really existed, believes Ridley Scott

London, May 15 (ANI): Director Ridley Scott believes Robin Hood truly existed.

The Brit hopes his new film on the folklore legend will arouse interest among historians.

“On this one (film), I wanted to go more real, because I really believe he existed. The ones (films) to date always treated Robin Hood like a myth, part of a fairy story,” the Daily Express quoted him as telling TV show Access Hollywood.

He added: “I never liked the green tights and I didn”t like the feather in the hat. It didn”t work for me. Even as a kid, it was not my idea of Robin Hood.”

The film got screened at this year”s Cannes Film Festival in France on Wednesday. (ANI)

Cate Blanchett wanted to play Robin Hood

Melbourne, May 13 (ANI): Australian actor Cate Blanchett has revealed that she wanted to play the part of Robin Hood rather than Maid Marion in the new Ridley Scott action blockbuster film.

“To be honest, Olivia de Havilland (a former Marion) was a great beauty but I always wanted to be Robin Hood rather than Maid Marion, but the part was taken,” Blanchett confided to hundreds of reporters at a packed press conference after the movie kicked off the Cannes Film Festival.

However, the actress had no chance of convincing Crowe or director Scott that there should be a cast change, reports The Daily Telegraph.

“I was put back in my box,” Blanchett laughed. (ANI)

Actor, 8, settles Robin Hood ‘from Nottinghamshire or Yorkshire’ feud!

London, May 13 (ANI): Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire both claim to being home of the legend of Sherwood Forest, but the actor who plays a young Robin in the upcoming film has declared a concise answer.

Jack Downham, eight, who is from Leeds, announced at the British gala screening of the Ridley Scott blockbuster that the man in green tights is from both counties.

“He”s from Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire,” The Telegraph quoted the young actor as saying.

His mother, Clare Downham, 39, a schoolteacher, added, ””Jack”s such a diplomat. He should be in Number 10.””

””Russell was really nice to me. He was very smiley. It was really exciting and surreal to be in the film. The best bit was getting to meet all the people in the film,”” said Jack, who attends drama school in Leeds and plays Noah Tate in Emmerdale.

Councillor Leon Unczur, who is the Sheriff of Nottingham, said, ””We know that, when Hollywood”s spotlight shines on Robin, even more people will want to come to Nottingham to see where his legendary stories unfolded.

””That”s why we”ve got special events throughout May and why we are looking longer term to develop an attraction that will meet the expectations of visitors on the trail of our famous outlaw.”” (ANI)

When Russell Crowe threw a log at Prince Andrew

London, May 11 (ANI): Russell Crowe shocked his co-stars on the set of ‘Robin Hood’ when he threw a log at visiting royal Prince Andrew, who is the second eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II.

The prince was visiting the set of Sir Ridley Scott”s film in Windsor Great Park – part of the royal family”s land – when Crowe threw a log prop at the prince to prove the royal heir is just a normal “bloke”.

“I”m happy he caught the log. It was an instinctive thing – it”s like when you are playing sport. I threw it where he had the best possible chance of catching it. The thing is, if I”d thrown it too hard I”d have made a complete jerk of myself, and it wasn”t about doing that.

“It was about showing a group of Englishmen, who were a little bit overawed with their prince being there, that”s he”s a bloke and is ready for a bit of fun,” The Daily Express quoted Crowe as telling Live magazine.

Crowe was charmed after meeting the prince.

“I really liked him. He”s smart, knowledgeable and very inquisitive. He told a funny story too. He said, ”I was having dinner with my mother, and I asked her if it was appropriate that I wear a suit when visiting the film set.”

“And his mother, who is the Queen after all, said, ”No Andrew, if you turn up in a suit people will think you”re a ninny (fool).” Whatever I thought I knew about him changed completely. He was charming,” he said. (ANI)

Sienna Miller thinks Cate Blanchett will make a ‘better’ Maid Marian

New Delhi, July 2 (ANI): Sienna Miller believes that Cate Blanchett, who has replaced her in Ridley Scott’s epic Robin Hood, will make a “better” Maid Marian than her.

The actress, who was due to star alongside Russell Crowe in the upcoming big-budget drama, said that there were no hard feelings against 40-year-old Cate, who she said was “more suitable” for the role, reports the China Daily.

She told Total Film magazine: “There was nothing salacious. The script kept changing and evolving, to the point where I was no longer appropriate for it. Cate’s 10 years older than me, which is more suitable for the script.”

She added: “If they’d recast it with Keira Knightley, I’d have been heartbroken, but they’ve gone for something different – and better, in my opinion. If I had the choice between Cate Blanchett and me, I’d go for Cate Blanchett!” (ANI)

Sienna Miller blames ‘vendetta’ for losing Robin Hood role

London, July 1 (ANI): Sienna Miller has said that there is a “vendetta” against her after the actress lost out on playing Maid Marian in Ridley Scott’s epic Robin Hood.

The Hippie Hippie Shake star, who was due to share the frame with Russell Crowe in the forthcoming drama, said that script alterations cost her the role.

“The script kept changing and evolving to the point where I was no longer appropriate for it,” the Daily Express quoted her as having told Total Film magazine.

The 27-year-old, however, added that she had no hard feelings against 40-year-old Cate Blanchett, who had stepped into her shoes.

She said: “Cate’s 10 years older than me, which is more suitable for the script. If they’d recast with Keira Knightley I’d have been heartbroken but they’ve gone for something different – and better in my opinion. If I had the choice between Cate Blanchett and me I’d go for Cate Blanchett.”

Miller further said that she was not the only one who was dropped out of the project, and that it was the media’s doing that such a hue and cry was created about her loss of role.

She added: “There were several people supposed to be doing the film who no longer are but because it’s me it becomes this enormous drama – I think it’s a Sienna thing! There’s just a vendetta against… I don’t know.” (ANI)

The Gladiator star also praised Blanchett for her skills as an actress.
