Pak soldiers prefer fighting “Hindu India” than Taliban ‘muslim friends’: Report

London, May 10 (ANI): Pakistan Government may claim that it is fighting its ‘own war’ in the North West Frontier Province’s Malakand and Swat Divisions, and is not merely taking action under the US pressure, but one thing is quite evident that the Pakistani army do not want to pump bullets into their ‘muslim friends’ rather they prefer fighting against India.

Amid all frantic calls being made by the international community, and especially by the Obama Administration that the real threat to Pakistan comes from its internal factors and not from India, majority of its security personnel still believe that India remains their primary threat, the Telegraph reports.

The report stated that eventhough the Pakistan army has made sacrifices in its fight against terrorism, soldiers trained and dedicated to the idea of fighting “Hindu India” resent the idea of killing fellow Muslims on their own soil.

“I do not like the Taliban but I do not want to fight against them. They are our Muslim brothers. I do not want to fight America’s war,” said Zulmay Khan, a soldier with Frontier Corps.

The statement perhaps clarifies all the speculations regarding Pakistan Army’s will and capability to counter the extremists.

Officers, who have been in the thick of things for long planning out strategies for the army, also believe that Pakistan’s primary concern is India despite the fact that the Taliban’s advancing writ poses an ‘existential threat’ to the nation.

The report quoted a retired Major of Pakistan Army, Major Ikram Seghal, as saying that most troops would remain on the Indian border, despite the increasingly frantic calls from Washington to concentrate on the enemy within.

The problem is that now Pakistan is battling jihadis whom it trained to fight wars in Afghanistan and Kashmir, which was directed by the country’s leadership itself.

Nobody believe that the Taliban would be flushed out of the country or the region by the Pakistan military, but fear is growing that whatever happens in the current operation, Swat will prove a self-inflicted wound that will fester for years, the report said. (ANI)

Terrorist groups may target Pak’ special police units : Report

Karachi, May 3 (ANI): The special police units and officers working against the terrorism in the country could be targeted by the terrorists in near future, a report in The Nation said.

The report stated that special police cells like Crime Investigation Department (CID), Anti Violence and Crime Unit (AVCU) and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and officers associated with these units could be attacked by militants.

According to the report, the CID had recently nabbed some terrorists, who after severe interrogation, admitted that they were assigned the duty of paralyzing the special units of the police force by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud.

Sources also revealed that recently groups of militants were busted by the security officials. The militants confessed about being given the task of eliminating police officers working against Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) and other offshoots of the militant organisation.

Security officials, while confirming the reports about the threat, said all the terrorists groups must be busted before they initiate attack on them.

“We couldn’t give them space now because they are trying to eliminate us and even our families,” a security official said.

“Almost all defunct organisations including TTP, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Sippah-e-Sahaba, Harkatul Mujahideen, Harkatul Ansar, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and other splinter groups are considering us as a threat and want to eliminate us,” the official added. (ANI)

Cop’s ‘criminal negligence’ behind shocking attack on Lankan players: Pak enquiry tribunal

Lahore, Apr.25 (ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) enquiry tribunal formed to investigate the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, has in its final report blamed security officials ‘criminal negligence’ as responsible for the audacious strike.

The 450-page tribunal report has recommended that stern action should be taken against several top police officials who were given the responsibility to provide a fool-proof security cover to the visiting team.

The report stated that Civil Lines Superintendent of Police (SP) Rai Ijaz, SP M Ali Naikokar, Model Town SP Raja Abid, and Security SP Ahsan Younis should be charged for dereliction of duty.

The tribunal has already sent its report to the chief minister, the principal secretary to the Punjab governor, the interior secretary, the LHC registrar, the home secretary and the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt for further action, The Daily Times reports. (ANI)

Extremist groups once nurtured by Pakistan have now turned against it: Report

London, Mar.31 (ANI): The frequency and magnitude of terror strikes within its geographical territory has increased manifold in recent times proving one thing for sure that the extremists groups once nurtured by Pakistan to act against the Soviets in Afghanistan, and carry out the holy war ‘Jihad’ against India to set Kashmir free have now also turned against Pakistan.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which has been charged of carrying out the Novenber 2008 terror attack on Mumbai, is considered to have a strong hold in Lahore.

Monday’s attack on the police training academy in Manawan, thus proves that outlawed terror groups such as LeT have established their grip in that part of the country.

According to a report in The Telegraph, by promising to shut down groups such as LeT in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks and under immense international pressure, Pakistan has made itself a legitimate target in their eyes.

Moreover, the report stated that the LeT enjoyed a blind support of hundreds of Pakistanis against India. For them the ‘Jihad’ to separate Kashmir from India is much more important than the impending threat of extremism along the Afghan border.

The report said that Pakistan is being divided from inside and is more susceptible than Afghanistan because of the fact that these blind supporters, give a chance, would definitely choose the LeT over the writ of a democratically elected government. (ANI)
