Palamu (Jharkhand), March 27 (ANI): Though people all over the world visit religious places to seek blessings for happiness and a good fortune for themselves, an annual fair held in Jharkhand’s Palamu district attracts people who wish to free themselves of the suspected evil spirits’ influence.

The presiding deity of temple goddess relieves them of all the problems,” said Surendra Nath Tyagi, priest of Sheetala Mata temple, Hairderpur.

It is believed besides obviation from evil spirits, the devout visitors also have a belief that their all wishes will be realized after praying here by a pure heart and deep faith.

“After noticing such a sea of devotees at this temple, one can make out that there has to be some reality in this ritual, otherwise people would not visit this temple. Sleepy Devon is Britain’s cheating capital!

London, Mar 26 (ANI): Forty four percent of the people in sleepy Devon are having affairs, reveals a survey.

A staggering 44 percent who live in the scenic county admit they are currently playing away while an extra 4 percent have cheated in the past, reports the Daily Star.

Research was conducted by IllicitEncounters.com.

Only 19 percent of people in second-placed Avon admitted they are cheaters.

Saintly Surrey was the most faithful county, with only 3 percent having strayed.

To reach the conclusion, OnePoll quizzed more than 4,000 married people on their relationship habits.

Sara Hartley, from Illicit Encounters, said: “In our opinion, Devon have just been much more honest in their answers.

“It has previously been estimated that around 40 percent of women and 60 percent of men will cheat during marriage, so these figures seem incredibly low.

“Traditional values seem to have a strong hold in rural towns and villages, therefore many feel a strong pressure to marry. As a result, we see a lot of members from places like Devon, who married young and now feel trapped in their relationships.

“The Western Isles, which is widely considered to be one of the most religious places in the UK, has a higher percentage of IllicitEncounters.com members than most other counties.”(ANI)

Nagpur man celebrates birthday in crematorium

Nagpur, Sep. 16 (ANI): In a bizarre incident, a Nagpur-based man celebrated his 40th birthday in a crematorium.

Surrounded with close friends and relatives, Pramod Vanker cut his birthday cake at Gangabai Ghat on Wednesday.

“Everyone gave me strength and told me it is a good thing and you are setting a good example for the society. People celebrate birthday in hotels, homes and at religious places like temple. I thought why shouldn’t I celebrate my birthday at a place where one is to face sorrow in future,” said Vanker.

Initially, Vanker’s wife was averse to his wacky idea, but his philosophical reasoning cleared her doubts.

“I was surprised when he told me that he wants to celebrate his birthday in a crematorium. Till now we have celebrated birthdays at hotels. But then I felt that one day everyone has to depart from this world then why not see that heavenly abode where everyone has to come and celebrate the birthday too,” said Usha, wife of Pramod Vanker.

Perhaps, it is for the first time that someone in Nagpur has celebrated his birthday at a crematorium. (ANI)

Saving the historical monuments to preserve cultural heritage of Punjab

Amritsar, Sep.10 (ANI): An endeavour is underway to preserve various heritage buildings of Punjab State in a bid to treasure the cultural heritage including historical monuments, which can help in boosting tourism in Punjab.

The palaces and Havelis across Punjab bespeak glorious heritage. These historically important buildings include religious places belonging to different faiths and can attract tourists to Punjab.

The Sheesh Mahal and Qila Mubarak at Patiala, Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s summer palace at Amritsar or ancestral home of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at Khatkar Kalan – they are important sites that need to be preserved for the coming generations.

“Every community, society has a very precious heritage which has to be and can be transferred to the next generation and this is the responsibility of any civil society to transfer that heritage to the coming generation if you don’t perform that duty, that is a sin, that’s crime,” said Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Punjab State convener, Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

To spread awareness about preservation of these heritage sites, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage recently organized a workshop on the theme ‘Cultural Heritage and Media’ in Amritsar.

The event highlighted the fact that popularizing existing heritage buildings and protecting sites of cultural importance, presently in ruins due to negligence and development activities, ought to be the main priority.

There were proposals to convert heritage sites into museums and heritage hotels for tourists to get a glimpse of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.

It was suggested that the restored monuments could be commercially used on public-private partnership basis.

“Nuclear families have become more common than joint families and it has resulted in a big change in the whole system. Like in our system, the kids are taught to respect elders and follow the path of honesty. People get equal share in all institutions like in home, office and agriculture but today they are aware of especially one aspect of their lives,” said Paramjeet Singh , Prof. Of Architechture, Gurunanak University, Amritsar.

“There is a significant relation between tourism and the heritage sites because some tourists surely have some interest in what’s the history of people and what’s the culture of people. They don’t come here just to see the huge marble buildings. They don’t want to see the modern architecture, which infact is mostly western, they come here to know about the past of this place, so it surely encourages tourism,” said Dr. Sukhdev Singh.

Amritsar is the heritage city of Punjab. The city is known globally for the revered Golden Temple, one of the pilgrimage centers, which stands intact and was built nearly 400 years ago.

The heritage tour in Amritsar remains incomplete without visiting the old city, known for its traditional market and centuries old residential houses.

Be it the historic Jallianwala Bagh or the Summer Palace, the royal residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, they take every visitor here to the era they stand testimony of. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)

Three poachers were arrested while smuggling 14 tortoises at Chandi Ghat in Haridwar division on Tuesday. The poachers belonging to the ‘sapera’ community admitted that they brought the tortoises from east canal of Gaindikhatta in Haridwar for selling its meat.

Early on April 7, forest officials caught Kishorinath, a resident of Sapera Basti Bhaniyawala, Raju and Rangi Nath, both residents of Sapera Basti of Kalika Dhal in Rishikesh. We presented all the three poachers at Roshanabad court and are waiting for permission to identify the species. The poachers have admitted that they were taking the species to sell in the market for its meat.

” Though sale of meat is prohibited in religious places like Haridwar and Rishikesh, poachers find there is a good market for sale of such items. A source said, “Meat of tortoise, deer and other species are sold in places like Haridwar and Rishikesh and there is a ready market.

The meat of tortoise costs around Rs 300 per kilogram.” Rajendra Agarwal, state president of Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI), said forest authorities should take stern steps towards rehabilitation of poachers so that killing of animals could be controlled.
