Miley Cyrus did lap dance ‘for fun’, says dad

New York, May 14 (ANI): Father of teen sensation Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray insists that his daughter was just ‘having fun’ in the video that shows her giving a lap dance to a 44-year-old man.

“It”s what people her age do,” The New York Post quoted Billy Ray Cyrus as telling TMZ.com.

The video sparked controversy, showing the singer and actress engaging in some dirty dancing with Adam Shankman, who is openly gay, during the wrap party last summer for her movie, “The Last Song.”

Shankman, now 45 years old, produced “The Last Song” and is a judge on the dance competition and reality television show “So You Think You Can Dance?” (ANI)

Monica Bedi, other models to milk cows and make dung cakes on a TV reality show

London, Apr 16 (ANI): A new reality television show will see Bollywood stars who are known for their luxurious lifestyle milking cows and making dung cakes with their bare hands.

The BBC is producing the show ‘Desi Girl’ in order capitalise on the growing popularity of television soaps set in poor Indian villages, The Telegraph reports.

The show will pit a number of catwalk models and Bollywood stars, including Monica Bedi, against one other to find the most down home, practical woman among them.

Producers said the show will give them an opportunity to prove they are purely glamour girls or if they are true country girls at heart, the paper reports.

If the women want coffee in the morning, they will first have to milk a cow. To cook a meal, they will have to make fire fuel patties from cow dung.

“The idea is to bring the life of rural India to the urban populace. The contestants have to adapt to village life and also they have to outdo each other and win the hearts of the villagers,” said Shailja Kejriwal of NDTV Imagine.

“The villagers will ultimately decide which one of these city girls has it in her to be like them and win the title of ‘Desi Girl’,” Kejriwal added. (ANI)

Big Brother to be scrapped by Channel 4 for low ratings

London, Aug 26 (ANI): Reality television show ‘Big Brother’ is all set to be scrapped by Channel 4 after this year’s poor ratings.

The decision was taken after it was seen that only two million viewers tuned in to the tenth series of the reality show, compared to eight million only a few years ago.

“The reality is people are bored with it. Even at Channel 4 the vibe among staff is that if you like Big Brother you’re not cool,” the Sun quoted a telly insider, who confirmed an official announcement will be made soon, as saying.

“If the people commissioning the show don’t think it’s cool, what hope is there?” the insider said.

One final series – the 11th – will be screened on C4 next year because of the channel’s 180million pounds deal with the show’s makers Endemol.

But after that, it will only go ahead if the production house can flog it to a rival channel.

Insiders now say that it is only just “washing its face”, and accuse the show of failing to win over the “Facebook generation” after being watered down to avoid controversy, following the Shilpa Shetty race row on the celebrity version.

“The truth is nobody’s talking about Big Brother any more,” the insider added. (ANI)

After Shilpa, another Indian contestant racially bullied in Big Brother

London, Jul 10 (ANI): Reality television show ‘Big Brother’ is in hot water once again, as watchdog Ofcom has received almost 300 complaints that Marcus Akin racially bullied Indian contender Sree Dasari.

Ofcom has said that it would be looking into viewers’ concerns about the 35-year-old window fitter imitating former housemate Sree’s Indian accent.

The complaints were mostly about a row between Marcus and Sree, in which Akin, who threatened 25-year-old Sree, received a telling off from Big Brother and a formal warning.

Viewers also complained about a separate incident earlier in the day, when Marcus mimicked Sree’s accent while completing the shopping list.

“Big Brother intervened and took immediate and appropriate action relating to the argument between Sree and Marcus,” the Sun quoted a spokesman for the show as saying.

“Marcus received a formal warning following his use of threatening language during his argument with Sree.

“Threatening language and behaviour is not acceptable in the Big Brother house.

“Big Brother monitors the welfare, language and behaviour of housemates at all times and will continue to monitor this situation,” he added. (ANI)

Sree nominates Noirin for eviction from Big Brother House

London, Jul 1 (ANI): As contenders in reality television show ‘Big Brother’ fight to stay on and not get evicted, Sree went into the Diary Room and nominated Irish beauty Noirin to be evicted.

Sree had been sucking up to Noirin at every opportunity, and even praised about her to Big Brother.

“I lover her, I do fancy her, I want to be with her,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“More than anyone in this BB house she is the lady who attracts me through her internal beauty.

“But she’s the first woman shouted at me in my whole life,” he said.

The sneaky student was himself nominated by Noirin for eviction.

“I think he did fancy me at the start, but now I think he’s using me as a weapon,” she told BB.

“I’ve had friends like that before – they’re like fr-enemies,” she added.

With five nominations, Sree is up for eviction, along with Freddie – the bookies’ favourite to win the entire show – who was nominated seven times. (ANI)

Palau to accept 17 Chinese Muslims from Guantánamo as ‘gesture of thanks’ to US

The remote Pacific nation of Palau has agreed to accept 17 Chinese Muslim prisoners held at Guantánamo Bay, giving the Obama administration a major fillip as it faces the complex problem of closing the controversial prison.

Johnson Toribiong, the president of Palau, said the decision was a “humanitarian gesture” intended to help the detainees restart their lives.

“This is but a small thing we can do to thank our best friend and ally for all it has done for Palau,” he said.

Negotiations between Washington and the Palauans over the prisoners coincided with discussions about a $200 million (£120 million) renewal of a regular assistance package on which the island, a former US territory, depends.

However, a senior US state department official described the idea of any connection as “completely false”.

The Obama administration was beginning to despair of finding a home for the ethnic Uighur detainees, whom the Pentagon has determined are not “enemy combatants” and should be freed. They have been left in legal limbo after an appeals court blocked their release into the United States.

After six or seven years of incarceration, the Uighurs’ new home is located 500 miles south-east of the Philippines, and has 20,000 people scattered over eight main islands.

There are no buses and just 38 miles of roads, almost half of which are unpaved. Employment opportunities are limited to the government and the luxury tourist industry. The islands receive 50,000 visitors a year, many of them scuba divers, and were twice chosen as the location for the US reality television show “Survivor”.

The 17 detainees had become a symbol of the difficulties Mr Obama has faced in achieving his goal of closing the jail at the US naval base in Cuba within a year of taking office. With 250 detainees remaining, finding new homes or adjusting trial systems has proved problematic.

Washington has decided the Uighurs cannot be returned to China over fears that they face persecution there, but American states that were initially amenable to accepting the group got cold feet and Australia, a major ally with a Uighur community, declined to take the group.

It was alleged that the Uighurs had trained at terror camps in Afghanistan and belonged to an Islamist separatist movement in the western Xinjiang region.

In 2006, Albania accepted five Uighur detainees from Guantanamo but has since balked at taking others, partly for fear of diplomatic repercussions from China. Palau is one of a handful of countries that does not recognize China and maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

Heidi Klum doles out dieting tips to first time models

Melbourne, Apr 20 (ANI): German supermodel Heidi Klum has doled out dieting tips to those who are taking to the catwalk for the first time.

Klum, 35, who is the host of US reality television show Project Runway, urged models taking part at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week on April 27 to eat healthy.

“Eat healthily. You don’t need to starve, but you have to learn to look after yourself,” the Daily Telegraph quoted her as saying.

“In many cases, the girls (on Project Runway) eat garbage – things like pancakes and waffles and a lot of junk – which is not going to help them.

“You’d hardly see any of them eating vegetables or salads. Not even an apple. It was kind of shocking.

“I try to explain to them that they have to be fit.

“Models need to have some energy to be able to deal with long days on a photo shoot and taking red-eye flights and managing job after job.

“You won’t last if you’re not eating healthily,” she added. (ANI)

The one-time dental assistant who found fame as an ill-educated but straight-talking TV gameshow contestant, died of cervical cancer last month, aged 27.

The final days of the mother of two were as closely chronicled in the media as her controversial appearances on the Big Brother reality television show.

In February she married her boyfriend in a ceremony that received blanked television and newspaper coverage after she had announced doctors had only given her weeks to live from the spread of her cancer.

Even Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who had commented on her illness, joined the tributes that poured in after her death, saying his thoughts went out to her family.

Her funeral cortege will travel through Bermondsey in southeast London where she grew up, to her home in Upshire, Essex, before reaching the St John the Baptist Church in Buckhurst Hill.

Barriers were in place outside the church to hold back the crowds expected to flood to the service.

Many have criticised the media for obsessing over a someone who was famous for little more than being famous.

But her spokesman Max Clifford said Goody had saved lives by using her fame to publicise the risk of cervical cancer.

He told Sky News that young women had written to say they had taken tests after Goody said last August she had cervical cancer. Some had proved positive and were now being treated.

“In years to come her legacy is going to be an awful lot of young women in Britain that will be alive purely because Jade Goody was so public,” he said.

Simon Cowell accuses Prince Philip of calling him ‘sponger’

London, Mar 26 (ANI): Music mogul Simon Cowell has claimed that Prince Philip called him a ‘sponger’.

In an interview on The Tonight Show, the US chat show hosted by Jay Leno, the X Factor judge claimed that he was snubbed by the Queen and insulted by the Duke of Edinburgh after appearing at the Royal Variety Show.

“At the end, if you are involved in it, you have to stand around for hours and then say hello,” the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

“She [the Queen] ignored me and her husband called me a sponger. It was a bit embarrassing. It was a bit awkward,” he added.

However, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace has denied that the Duke had been rude to Cowell.

“The Duke of Edinburgh categorically did not call Mr Cowell a sponger. He has no reason to. He has said he does no know enough about Mr Cowell to make any sort of comment about him,” he said.

“Mr Cowell may have misheard the Duke, he has a very soft voice,” he added.

The spokesman also dismissed Cowell’s claims that he had been cut by the monarch in the after-show line-up.

“The Queen doesn’t ignore people. She has many people to meet after such a show,” he said.

However, Cowell’s claims have been supported by fellow X Factor judge Piers Morgan, who was also present during the exchange in 2007.

In his new book, the former newspaper editor describes hearing the Duke jokingly accuse Cowell of sponging off the contestants on his reality television show.

Morgan said: “I can categorically say it happened. If we all have to trudge off to court, I’m available.” (ANI)
