Shia Muslims to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday

Lucknow, Sept 20 (ANI): A senior official of Shia Muslim community has said that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Monday.

Kalbe Sadiq, Shia cleric and senior vice president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said here that the Ramadan moon would be sighted on Sunday.

“I can say without any doubt that in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and in India, the moon will be sighted on Sunday. Sunni, Shia and all other sects of Islam will celebrate the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday,” Sadiq said.

However, Sunni Muslims disagreed, saying they would wait for the sighting of moon before declaring Eid.

“If the moon is sighted on September 20, or if the sighting in reported form anywhere, then Eid will be celebrated on the 21st. And if it is not sighted on the 20th and there are no reports either, in that case it will be celebrated on the 22nd,” said Maulana Khalid Rasheed, head of Lucknow’s Firangi Mahal.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims observe a daylong fast and open it in the evening.

At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous three-day celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month, which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy. (ANI)

Saudi Arabia’s ‘love’ for Nawaz Sharif lost?

Islamabad, Sep.12 (ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not receive the same ‘red carpet’ welcome and the protocol that he used to enjoy earlier, during his recent Saudi Arabia visit.

According to sources, Sharif’s refusal to tone down his demand for former President General Pervez Musharraf’s high treason trial is believed to the prime reason behind Riyadh’s luke warm response.

Insiders said Sharif did not receive the same protocol when he arrived at Riyadh for a religious visit earlier this week, however, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has rejected any reduction in Saudi’s love for Sharif.

“Whenever any Pakistani leader visits Saudi Arabia specifically for worship, routine protocol is not given. PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif regularly visits Saudi Arabia in the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan and in the past on every such occasion, he was given the same protocol as he was given during the current visit,” PML-N spokesman Pervaiz Rasheed said.

Sources said Sharif is under tremendous pressure from Saudi Arabia to shun his demand for Musharraf’s trial under the Article Six of the Constitution. (ANI)

Coach must take pride in his work: Aaqib Javed

Islamabad, Sep.11 (ANI): Former Pakistan fast bowler and assistant coach Aaqib Javed has said a coach of a national squad should take pride in his work and not impose himself on the players.

Javed, who was sacked from the assistant coach post by the Pakistan Cricket Board last month, said a coach should be able to communicate effectively with the players.

“I’m not one for shouting at the players, or making a lot of noise for the sake of it. Coaching players is all about taking pride in your work and ensuring that you show a caring attitude towards the players,” Javed told PakPassion.net.

Javed said a coach must earn the respect of teammates and added that he preferred working hard for the players instead of imposing himself on them.

“You have to earn the respect of the players you are working with. We have to be pulling in the same direction. I work very hard with the players and in return the players who work hard for me get their rewards,” he said.

The PCB had axed Javed over Pakistan’s poor performance during the Sri Lanka series.

Sources said his ouster came due to negative reports about him filed by coach Intikhab Alam, who felt Javed was getting too involved with some of the senior players.

Captain Younis Khan is also said to be unhappy with Javed’s presence in the team.

Javed has been replaced by Mohtashim Rasheed, younger brother of former Test batsman, Haroon Rasheed.

When enquired about Javed’s sacking, PCB chief Ijaz Butt had said he has ‘better plans’ for the former fast bowler. (ANI)

Pakistani actress Meera denies being married

Islamabad, August 31 (ANI): Pakistani actress Meera has denied being married to Attiqur Rehman.

Defence-A Police Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Abid Rasheed had alleged that he had seen the marriage certificate that showed that the wedding was solemnised on September 2, 2007.

The SHO said that the marriage was registered with the local union council, and the nikah khawan in Makkah Colony also confirmed the nuptials, reports the Daily Times.

The allegation emerged after Meera’s mother shifted antique furniture belonging to Attiqur, who accused her of secretly shifting the items without his knowledge.

Attiqur also claimed being beaten by his father-in-law, mother-in-law, and their other son-in-law Raheel.

Cops were subsequently called in and five men of each party were taken into custody.

Meera, however, has slammed these claims, saying that her association with Attique was restricted to business dealings.

She further accused Attiqur of blackmailing her.

She even alleged that Attique recently attacked her house with the intention of killing her, but she was not there at the time. (ANI)

Sharif welcomes Zardari’s reconciliation policy

Lahore, Mar 29 (ANI): PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif today welcomed President Asif Ali Zardar’s address to the joint sitting of the Parliament, saying that it will strengthen democracy in Pakistan.

“We welcome the reconciliation policy of President Zardari, as the harmony among the political parties would strengthen democracy,” Sharif said.

He said if the Charter of Democracy (CoD) is implemented, then extending hands of friendship towards Zardari was not an issue.

In a meeting with the Malaysian High Commissioner, Ahmad Shizan at Raiwind here, Sharif said that by getting the judiciary restored the first step towards the goal has been achieved and now striving for strengthening other organizations.

Earlier, the central leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-N seemed reluctant to comment on the Zardari’s address to the joint sitting of the Parliament on Saturday. The PML-N does not seem to be fully content with the President’s announcements.

Shahbaz Sharif’s spokesman Senator Pervez Rasheed said the reaction would be expressed in full detail on Sunday. (ANI)

Trying Musharraf on charges of sedition “wishful thinking”: Pak legal experts

Karachi, Mar.27 (ANI): While a volley of treason cases are being filed in Pakistan against the former President General Pervez Musharraf, legal experts in the country believe that the autocratic ruler may never be tested.

Legal experts have termed the idea of initiating sedition cases against Musharraf as ‘wishful’ thinking.

Addressing a seminar titled Constitutional Reforms: Back to 1973 or a New Consensus here, retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed said Pakistan has a history where none of the military dictators or army officers were held accountable for their wrong-doings under any circumstances.

Ahmed said the physical trial of Musharraf was impossible until an honest and an upright system was put into place.

Retired Justice Syed Rasheed Rizvi also charged both the democratic as well as the military set-up of the country for denying proper functioning of democracy.

“The PPP’s proposed 18th Amendment didn’t incorporate the principle of the autonomy for provinces and it was no different from the approach of the military establishment,” The Nation quoted Rizvi, as saying.

He asked for an immediate restoration of 1973 Constitution, so as to facilitate the proper functioning of democracy in Pakistan.

Addressing the seminar, Syed Iqbal Haider pointed towards the need for a secular constitution to thwart rising extremism and overall development.

“Unless the country moved towards a secular constitution permitting no place for extremism, there was no possibility of social, political and economic development in Pakistan,” Haider said. (ANI)

Musharraf was ready to name Benazir as PM

Lahore, Mar. 10 (ANI): Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed has claimed that former president Pervez Musharraf was ready to name Benazir Bhutto the prime minister for the third time.

According to a private TV channel, Rasheed said Benazir was in contact with Musharraf prior to the signing the Charter of Democracy.

“The long march does not remain in the lawyers’ hand now, as the politicians have joined the show,” the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.

Rashid also criticized Nawaz Sharif’s decision to take to the streets, which would provide extra time to Zardari, but “the third force” would overthrow both of them if the confrontation continued. (ANI)

Individuals involved in terrorism don’t make country ‘terrorist state’: Rasheed

Lahore, Jan 5 (ANI): Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said if any individual belonging to any country is involved in acts of terrorism than that does not make the country a terrorist state.

Commenting on the Mumbai terror attacks, he said, “If a citizen of any country is involved in terrorism, it does not imply that his or her country is a terrorist state.”

Rasheed also wants various factions of the Pakistan Muslim League to unite, but says that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif stands as the biggest hurdle in the way.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Rasheed said there is no power crisis in the country, as “it is only a stunt of the present government”.

He said he had asked President Asif Ali Zardari to provide maximum relief to the people.

He also lamented that “politicians have not learnt any lesson from history” – a reference to the conflict between the PML-N and the ruling party, the Pakistan People’s Party.

The Daily Times quoted Rasheed as saying that mid-term elections could hurt the country if held. (ANI)
