PCB to decide on rebel ICL players after ICC’s prescribed ‘cooling period’

Lahore, Apr.20 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it could consider the rebel ICL players for national selection after they are through with the ‘cooling period’ as proposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The board, however, has also made it clear that the players would be considered for selection only when they terminate their contracts with the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

“But one thing is clear, first and foremost the ICL players need to end their contracts with the ICL to even be considered for any level of competition for Pakistan,” The Daily Times quoted a PCB official, as saying.

He said that the rebel players must decide on their association with the ICL before 1 June, the day when the ICC’s more stringent regulations regarding unauthorized leagues comes to the fore.

“After that we can’t do anything for these players,” the official added.

Earlier, several Pakistan ICL players Mohammad Yousuf, Imran Nazir, Abdul Razzaq, Rana Navedul Hasan and Imran Farhat had expressed their desire to play for the national side once again.

According to sources, the PCB is under pressure from different divisions to allow the rebel players to represent Pakistan in international arena to give a fitting reply to the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), which is being blamed to have played a major role in influencing the ICC to snatch the hosting rights of the 2011 World Cup from Pakistan. ICC mulling year/six month ‘cooling period’ before Pak ICL players return to national team

Lahore, Apr.9 (ANI): Pakistani ICL players may have been thinking of making a comeback to the national squad after they announced their readiness to terminate their contracts with the league, but it could take a year or six months of a ‘cooling period’ before it could really happen.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson said the International Cricket Council (ICC) was considering a ‘cooling period’ for players who joined unrecognized leagues like the ICL, before they appear for their national team in the international cricket arena.

There is a suggestion that a player who has played in an unauthorised tournament should have a cooling period of six months or one year before he can be allowed to return to international cricket,” The Daily Times quoted the spokesperson, as saying.

Commenting on PCB’s decision to pick three rebel ICL players in the provisional squad for the Twenty20 World Championship, and later removing their names from the list, the spokesperson said the ICC has yet not given any idea about how to deal with the issue.

“We have also asked the ICL to send us some clarifications as we can only consider those players for national selection who end their contracts with unauthorised tournaments permanently and not temporarily,” he added.

Meanwhile, sources said that chief selector Abdul Qadir has been severely criticized for naming three ICL players Abdul Razzaq, Rana Navedul Hasan and Imran Nazir in the list of thirty probables for the World Twenty20 Championship to be held in England in June.

“It proved to be an embarrassment for Pakistan. The ICC and its member boards were not very pleased with the announcement by the Pakistani selectors,” sources said. (ANI)

Shunning ICL Abdul Razzaq expresses desire to play for national team once again

Lahore, Mar.30 (ANI): Following Pakistan middle order batsman Mohammad Yousuf’s announcement that he is to terminate his contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), and eager to join the national squad, another Pakistani ICL player, Abdul Razzaq has expressed his desire to play for Pakistan once again.

He said that the ICL management has released all Pakistani cricketers from their contracts.

Razzaq, who joined the ICL after being dropped from the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup squad, said he is now available for national duty.

“I have informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about my availability. I will provide the No Objection Certificate (NOC) once I get it from the ICL,” The Daily Times quoted Razzaq, as saying.

Chief selector Abdul Qadir has already made it clear that rebel players would definitely be considered for selection once the PCB gives the green signal.

“The selection committee would definitely consider players like Mohammad Yousuf, Imran Farhat, Imran Nazir, Rana Navedul Hasan, Mohammad Sami and Abdul Razzaq for national team selection,” Qadir said.

“We’ve made it pretty clear from the start that while we can’t select players for Pakistan who are contracted to the ICL, if they end their ties with the league they would be immediately reconsidered for the national side,” a PCB spokesperson added.

The PCB had barred all 17 players who joined the ICL from playing in any form of cricket in Pakistan, but later a Sindh High Court verdict allowed them to appear in domestic matches. (ANI)
