New Delhi, Sep.3 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday expressed its deepest condolences on the death of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajshekhara Reddy and four others in a helicopter crash on Wednesday.

Terming the late Andhra leader as a ‘son of the soil’, BJP president Rajnath Singh described his death as shocking and added that the tragedy has left a huge void in state and national politics, a loss that is irreparable.
Cutting across the party lines to express its grief, the BJP said it has also decided to keep the party flag at half mast at its Delhi Headquaters.

Some BJP leaders are also expected to fly to Hyderabad to pay final tribute to the late chief Minister. (ANI)

RSS to chart BJP’s final succession plan in October: Sources

New Delhi, Sep.1 (ANI): Marathon rounds of meetings between the RSS top brass with BJP leadership in New Delhi might have prepared a ground for leadership change. But real changeover in BJP is likely to take place only after RSS national executive meet in October.

According to highly placed sources ” RSS is expected to chart a final blueprint for BJP succession plan in its three day National Executive which is slated to take place in Rajgir Bihar from 9-11th October.

Although publicly RSS claims that BJP is going to decide its own future course of action as per the leadership issue is concerned and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had reportedly asked Leader of Opposition Advani to decide on his successor. But top RSS sources insist that Sangh will take final call on BJP leadership only after the October’s National Executive.

All eyes within BJP and outside will be on two key positions on which the decision is to be taken in the crucial RSS meet. BJP’s president Rajnath Singh tenure is ending in November and BJP -RSS combine has to appoint the new president. BJP has made it clear that Rajnath will not get second term as President because according to the constitution same person cannot be repeat the term as a president and party is not looking in a mood to amend the constitution.

According to sources while RSS is trying to rope in a fresh face like Bal Apte or Narendar Modi for the prestigious position, Advani camp isreportedly pitching for Arun Jaitley, Ananth kumar and Venkaiah Naidu .imilarly ambiguity continues over who will take the baton from Lal Krishan Advani as the leader of opposition. While speculations are rife that Sushma Swaraj is the first choice for the post. Top BJP brass begins meeting at Rajnath Singh’s house

No leadership role likely for ‘lateral entrants’ in BJP

New Delhi, Aug.31 (ANI): ‘Lateral entrants’, a term coined for non-RSS workers, are in for tough days ahead in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In the wake of recent wrangling in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed by the exit of senior leader Jaswant Singh and L.K. Advani’s aide Sudheendra Kulkarni, the party has decided to clip the feathers of ‘lateral’ entrants. It literally implies that the members, who are non-swayamsewaks, will no more be able to enjoy the power and clout they used to till recent past.

A senior leader, seeking anonymity, said, ” BJP has decided that the next BJP President will be a swayamsewak and will not be a ‘ lateral entry’. This will further strengthen the chances of hardcore RSS workers-Arun Jaitley, Bal Apte and Narendra Modi-being appointed as the new bosses of the organisation and put to rest speculations about Sushma Swaraj becoming the new President of the party after Rajnath Singh’s three-year term comes to its end by the end of this year.

According to a top BJP source, the cadres of the party are deeply pained by the recent statements made by Jaswant Singh and Advani’s aide Sudheendra Kulkarni who left the party citing that he has fundamental differences with BJP’s ideology.

Party believes that cadres across the country are deeply anguished by the conduct of ‘lateral’ entrants who enjoyed enormous power and were aspirants of holding top jobs if party had won. But they defected after the party lost in the elections.

According to sources, although party will downsize the clout of non-swayamsewaks in party affairs, it will not bar their entry into the party.

Source told ANI that BJP would welcome lateral entrants into the party in future on the basis of their professional ability and capacity.

It is learnt that RSS chief in his recent meetings with the BJP leadership had suggested that they should trim the role of lateral entrants in the BJP and promote swayamsewaks in the party.

Taking a dig at the so called intellectuals, who form the major chunk of ‘lateral entrants’ in the party, top source also said: “We have competent cadres who can speak good English and also write a book.”

Admitting that the generational change in the party is imminent, party sources also indicated that Advani will continue to guide the party with his experience and moral authority even after he steps down as the leader of Opposition. By Naveen Kapoor(ANI)

RSS chief Bhagwat says Advani, Rajnath will decide role in BJP

Haridwar, Aug 31(ANI): Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said that BJP leaders LK Advani and Rajnath Singh will decide on their role within the party.

Talking to reporters here, Bhagwat said, “Rajnathji, Advaniji and others will decide on their role in the party. Everything will be fine in the BJP in future.”

“There are people with moral standing like Advani and under their guidance, they will solve all problems. We have nothing to do with this,” he added

While the BJP had said that Rajnath Singh will not get an extension as party president beyond his three-year term that ends in December, there were reports that Advani may step down as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha but the timing for it has been left to him.

Bhagwat had a breakfast meeting with Advani on Sunday and had discussions with other senior leaders.

Sunday’s breakfast meeting between Advani and Bhagwat was the second between the two. They had earlier met on Saturday afternoon for about two hours at the RSS headquarters Keshavkunj in Delhi to discuss various issues.

Saturday’s meeting took place amid reports that the RSS has readied a succession plan for the BJP. However, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters at a press conference that no succession plan was discussed.

The RSS is believed to have told the BJP leadership to set its house in order. That this is being given serious thought was evident when top brass of the BJP met at Advani’s residence yesterday morning for about two hours and briefed him about their discussions with Bhagwat on Friday.

Sources said the RSS has firmly asked BJP leaders to end the infighting in the party and reach consensus on a new party chief. (ANI)

Khanduri, Singhal hold discussions with Bhagwat

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): After criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for removing him from the post of Uttarakhand chief minister, B. C. Khanduri on Saturday met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

According to sources Khanduri is understood to have aired his grievances before Bhagwat.

Khanduri, who has been brooding since he was forced to resign after the party’s poor show in the state in the 2009 polls, still claims to enjoy the support of most of BJP MLAs.

After the Shimla Chintan Baithak, Khanduri reportedly wrote a letter to party president Rajnath Singh in which he is understood to have criticised his removal.

Apart from Khanduri, the International Chairman of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Ashok Singhal also met Bhagwat at Keshav Kunj, the RSS headquarters in Delhi.

VHP sources described the Singhal -Bhagwat meeting as “routine.”(ANI)

BJP top brass meets Advani, immediate change in party leadership ruled out

New Delhi, Aug.29 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top brass met senior leader L.K. Advani at his residence late on Friday night for almost two hours.

Among those who met Advani were Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar.

Sources claimed that despite RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat chalking out a succession plan for the BJP, there are no immediate plans to ring in changes in the leadership.

The RSS succession plan is reported to have been discussed during the meeting.

BJP leaders were reluctant to reveal to the media what exactly transpired at the meeting claiming that it was a routine meeting.

The other issue that came up for discussion was Jaswant Singh’s charge that Advani knew about and was in favour of exposing the cash for vote scam that hit Parliament in July last year, as the UPA Government was seeking a vote of confidence.

Firing a fresh salvo, Singh said Advani was “at the centre” of the cash-for-votes scam drama enacted in the Lok Sabha last year.

“It’s a great sense of pity. Here was a man who was consumed by an ambition to be Prime Minister, and that desire made him commit so many mistakes. Do you know this whole wretched thing of money for votes is a classic example of wrong decision-making and it’s extremely troubling that he did not stand up and say no? Advaniji was at the centre of this whole drama,” he told Outlook magazine.

Singh was referring to the episode when three BJP MPs displayed bundles of currency notes totaling Rs.10 million, claiming they were being offered as bribe to support the government.

Singh said the facts were clear and he stumbled on to the whole thing when Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former aide of Advani, brought a very strange looking fellow to his house.

“I was not consulted but I was appalled that Advaniji was giving the MPs the go ahead to display money in Parliament,” he said adding that Advani had two choices — either to take the money to the Speaker or into the House. But he told the MPs to display the money in Parliament.

The options left for Advani are to break his silence and publicly clarify his stand to take on his detractors or else resign as Leader of Opposition and end his political career, leaving the BJP to battle the crisis.

Advani could also stay on till BJP presidential election in December to chart out a comprehensive succession plan.

It is clear that the fault line in the BJP have widened with a number of senior leaders rebelling against the party high command. With some much infighting there seems to be three distinct camps within the BJP – the Rajnath Camp, the Advani Camp and the Vajpayee Camp. (ANI)

RSS will not interfere in BJP’s internal affairs: Mohan Bhagwat

New Delhi, Aug.28 (ANI): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday that the outfit will not interfere in the day-to-day workings of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in the midst of a major crisis of confidence.

Addressing a press conference at ‘Keshavkunj’, the RSS headquarters in the national capital, he said that in the 83 years of its history, the RSS had always projected the need for working together in a united manner, and not allowing personal differences to take precedence over matters of national interest.

He said that the RSS would continue to focus on taking its work to unite India forward and as far as the BJP is concerned, “it is for the party leadership to decide on the issue.”

He said: “All like minded people should work together for progress of the country.”

Bhagwat’s comments came after his meetings on Thursday with BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior leader Murli Manhar Joshi. The discussion with Singh lasted for one-and-a-half hours.

BJP leader Varun Gandhi also met him on Friday morning for about 45 minutes.

Bhagwat had on August 18 called for an end to factionalism in the BJP, the political wing of the Sangh Parivar, and said the party leadership should make way for younger leaders.

The expulsion of Jaswant Singh, two days after the launch of his latest book-Jinnah: India -Partition – Independence, has been criticised by senior leaders Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha.

Shourie has called on the RSS to take over the leadership of the BJP. (ANI)

Raje to hold BJP Legislature Party meeting in Jaipur

Jaipur, Aug 26 (ANI): Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, will hold a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party here on Wednesday, to chalk out strategy for the upcoming State Assembly session.

According to sources, the issue of electing a new Leader of Opposition as per the direction of party’s high command is not likely to figure in the meeting.

Raje, who has been asked by the BJP central leadership to resign from the leadership of the party’s legislature wing is, appears to be in no mood to quit.

She returned to Jaipur on Tuesday evening from Delhi after holding meetings with party chief Rajnath Singh and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani.

According to party’s deputy whip Rajendra Rathore; the meeting is likely to take up the issue of suspension of three MLAs from the State Assembly.

Speaker Deepender Singh Shekhavat suspended MLAs Gyandeo Ahuja, Bhawani Singh Rajawat and Hemsingh Bhadana on July 28 for the remaining period of the Assembly.

The BJP, which boycotted all the legislative committee meetings, in protest against the suspension will decide on attending the House Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to fix the agenda for the remaining days of the session.

Most of the legislatures are in favor of boycotting the committees till the suspension is revoked, sources said. (ANI)

BJP’s ongoing crisis a cause of serious concern, says Khanduri

Dehradun, Aug 25 (ANI): B C Khanduri, senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Tuesday said that the ongoing crisis in the party is a cause of serious concern.

“Keeping in view the BJP’s past record, its discipline, love for the country and people’s faith in the party, whatever is happening right now is a cause of concern. I pray to god that the party regains it past glory and people’s faith be restored like in the past,” Khanduri said.

When asked if the retirement of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from active politics due to ill health may have influenced the functioning of the party, he agreed that it might have affected in some way.

“I have been fortunate enough to have worked with Vajpayee and had his blessings. But as far as the question is concerned that due to his ill heath the BJP has suffered a setback, it’s obvious that if a senior leader stays away from active politics due to ill health or some other reasons, it’s bound to make a difference in the functioning of the party,” he added.

The ongoing turmoil in the BJP has deepened further with senior leader Arun Shourie attacking party president Rajnath and senior leader L K Advani in full media glare.

The party had earlier expelled Jaswant Singh for praising Jinnah in his book “Jinnah – India, Partition, Independence”. (ANI)

BJP leaders meet to discuss Shourie’s remarks

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met here today to discuss Arun Shourie’s remarks against the party.

Besides party president Rajnath Singh, party Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party general secretaries Vijay Goel and Vinay Katiyar attended the meeting at the party headquarter.

According to sources, the leaders reviewed the situation but apparently no decision regarding any action against Shourie was taken.xpressing confidence that the party would emerge stronger, Naqvi said there was no revolt in the party.

On Monday, Shourie asked the RSS to takeover BJP’s control and described Rajnath Singh as “Alice in Blunderland”.

“You want to be the Humpty Dumpty and also want everyone to believe what you write. Rajnath Singh is Alice in Blunderland,” said Shourie during the Walk the Talk an interview-based programme of NDTV.

Making observation of the present state of affairs in the BJP, Shourie said: “BJP Ek Kati Patang ki tarah hain (BJP is like a kite without its string attached),”

“The RSS should take BJP’s control in its hands and BJP’s all top leaders should be removed,” Shourie suggested.

Shourie wants action be taken against him, NDTV quoted Rajiv Pratap Rudy as saying later on. (ANI)

BJP announces list for assembly by elections

New Delhi, Aug 22 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced the list of candidates to the by elections to be held at four states of Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Party General Secretary Ananth Kumar released the list of 11 candidates to the media in the national capital.

Kumar said party’s central election committee has authorized party president Rajnath Singh to decide the candidates for remaining six seats of Bodha Gaya, Begusarai, Aurai, and Bihar, Tendukeva in Madhya Pradesh and Jasden and Danta in Gujarat.

The BJP nominated party’s Minority Morcha National Secretary Mohd Irfan Ahmed for the Ohkhla seat in Delhi State Assembly.

Jaswant Singh says he sent an advance copy of his book to Advani

Shimla, Aug. 19 (ANI): In a startling revelation, expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh said on Wednesday that he had sent an advance copy of his latest book ” Jinnah – India-Partition-Independence” to senior party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani, and therefore, this made his removal from the party after 30 years of association even more painful and shocking.

Interacting with journalists here on the sidelines of a three-day party Chintan Baithak, which he is not attending in the wake of his sudden expulsion, Jaswant Singh said that at the time of his sending the book over to Advani, there was no reaction or hint of things to come, and this made his expulsion from the party one of the saddest episodes of his adult life.

He said he never could have imagined in his wildest dreams that he would be expelled from the BJP just for “writing a book”. The book, he said, was a personal viewpoint, and had nothing to do with the policies or stances of the BJP.

Singh’s revelation came hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh announced that Singh was being expelled from the BJP.

Singh, who arrived here last evening for the Chintan Baithak of the party, kept away from the meeting by changing his hotel.

According to sources Singh kept away citing bad health. He also skipped a dinner hosted by Advani.

The BJP has distanced itself from the book and Singh’s views on Jinnah.

BJP is meeting here to discuss the causes for the party”s defeat in 2009 general elections and its strategy for the future.

The meeting is also likely to take up the issue of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who has refused to quit as Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly.

Over 25 senior party leaders, including members of the party’s parliamentary board and chief ministers Narendra Modi of Gujarat, Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh, Ramesh Pokhriyal of Uttarakhand and B.S. Yeddyurappa of Karnataka, will participate in the three-day meeting. (ANI)

Khanduri’s successor to be elected today

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party is likely to meet here today to elect the successor of B C Khanduri, who resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

The names of Minister for Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Prakash Pant and Health Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal are doing the rounds as possible front-runners to replace Khanduri.

Khanduri handed over a copy of his resignation letter to the party president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday, after discussions with the top leadership of the BJP. Khanduri has sent his resignation letter to the state Governor for acceptance separately.

The BJP in Uttarakhand has been in turmoil after it lost all five Lok Sabha seats in the state and dissidents led by senior leader B S Koshiyari landed in Delhi to press for Khanduri’s removal. (ANI)

New Delhi, June 23(ANI): B C Khanduri on Tuesday resigned as the chief minister of Uttarakhand, it is believed that senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders had asked him to resign following party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

BJP president Rajnath Singh said that the party has accepted Khanduri’s resignation.

According to party sources, the BJP decided to replace Khanduri after a meeting of senior leaders at L K Advani’s residence, which was also attended by party president Rajnath Singh.

The BJP high command had decided to replace Khanduri after the party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

The names of state Minister for Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Prakash Pant and Health Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal are doing the rounds as possible front-runners to replace Khanduri.

BJP has nothing to lose in New Delhi, says V K Malhotra

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader V K Malhotra today said that the party has nothing to lose if it does not win seats in the national capital.

Addressing newspersons at the party headquarters here, Malhotra remarked that the party was hoping for an improved show in the capital, but then it did not have much to lose.

“I have said that results are not out. Let the results come out, we hope that the results are good. Last time also, we got one seat. So, we don’t have much to lose. If we get more then one seat, it will be good,” he said.

Earlier, party president Rajnath Singh expressed his disappointment over the incoming election results, saying the BJP and the NDA never imagined it would be so devastating.

Virtually conceding defeat in the elections, Singh said: “We never imagined this unexpected result. We will sit today and assess where we went wrong.”

In the last general elections in 2004, the BJP had managed to win only one parliamentary seat in the national capital out of the seven constituencies, a virtual wipe out as the BJP held all seven constituencies prior to the 2004 general elections. (ANI)

Amar Singh rules out post-poll alliance with BJP

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Friday put a dampener on speculations of any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Squashing rumours of any talks of forging a post-poll alliance fuelled by his meeting with BJP president Rajnath Singh, Amar said, “It was not possible as there was an ideological difference between the two parties.”

“I don’t think so because there is a core issue of difference between us and them. As long as Article 370, temple issue rules their ideological plank where is the meeting ground?” Singh said.

Singh’s chance meeting with Rajnath at a social function had set the political circles abuzz with speculations of a post-poll alliance between the parties.

At a time when political scenario is full of activity and parleys are already underway between various political parties for post poll alliances, such meetings are enough to put the parties in frenzy. (ANI)

UPA, NDA working overtime to cobble up required majority

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The suspense continues to mount in political circles on which combine-the UPA or the NDA-will be in a position to form the next government at the Centre.

Key political leaders are travessing the length and breadth of the country meeting each other to determine and convince who will join which coalition or front.

Counting of votes will take place on Saturday, and most political leaders are saying that they will confabulate and reveal their respective positions after the results emerge.

“We are receiving positive indications from various parties. We will not reveal what we are discussing or what we have discussed till the results are out. Once the results are out, the BJP Parliamentary Party will meet and take stock and then decide the way forward,” said BJP president Rajnath Singh.

“Everything is fluid,” said NCP leader Praful Patel.

Congress leaders Pranab Mukherjee, A K Antony, Ahmad Patel and Digvijay Singh were huddled in talks till late last night.

Given his good equation with CPI-M veterans Jyoti Basu and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Mukherjee may be given the task of opening up the lines of communication with Left parties.

A meeting between BJP president Rajnath Singh and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh at a wedding reception last night set the political circles abuzz. The SP leader, however, dismissed media speculation of a political understanding being reached.

“People are aware that it is only Congress which can provide a stable government. All our allies are happy with us,” said Jayanthi Natarajan of Congress.

However, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar expressed confidence that his party will emerge as the single largest with more 30 seats that the Congress. “NDA will emerge as the single largest coalition with 50 seats more than UPA,” he claimed.

“All options are open. Everything will depend on the numbers,” said Amar Singh. The SP leader said he was in touch with CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury and would be speaking to NCP leader Sharad Pawar.

The Fourth Front, comprising Lalu Yadav’s RJD, Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP and SP have said the combine was averse to having any alliance with the BJP as also Mayawati’s BSP.

“Everybody is talking to everyone,” Patel went on to add.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav adopted a cautious approach. “There are some people with whom we are talking with some belief. The talks have been ongoing since yesterday night,” he said without elaborating.

“Congress does not use and throw its allies. We had a difference of opinion with RJD, LJP and the SP over the number of seats allotted to our party but they continued to be ministers and continue to be part of the UPA,” explained Natarajan.

“We shall prevent formation of a BJP-led government. This does not mean that automatically there would be a blanket support to a government led by the Congress,” CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta contended. (ANI)

NDA’s rally in Ludhiana today

Ludhiana, May 10 (ANI): The Chief Ministers of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-ruled states will participate in a rally here today.

NDA’s largest ally, the Janata Dal-United, the Assam Gana Parishad, Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal, Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal and Shiv Sena will participate in the rally.

Top BJP leaders, including its prime ministerial candidate L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh are expected to attend the rally.

BJP-ruled state Chief Ministers Narendra Modi (Gujarat), B S Yeddyurappa (Karnataka), Shivraj Singh Chauhan (Madhya Pradesh), Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh), Prem Kumar Dhumal (Himachal Pradesh) and B.C. Khanduri (Uttarakhand) will also participate in the rally.

The rally is being seen as a show of strength by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to show that the NDA is intact in the run-up to Wednesday’s fifth and last phase of the general elections.
