Girl criticises dad’s cooking, gets burned

New Delhi, May 29 — In a gruesome incident, 18-year-old Bindu was burned alive by her father Jagannath (50) apparently for having criticised his cooking. Bindu suffered 90 per cent burns in the incident and is fighting for her life at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

The incident took place around 10 pm on Thursday night in Yamuna Vihar in East Delhi. “Jagannath told us that he had cooked mutton for his family on Thursday.

During dinner, Bindu complained that the mutton was too spicy and not cooked properly. This began an argument between the two,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak to the media.

In a fit of rage, Jagannath apparently hit Bindu and then, in front of his other five children, poured kerosene on her. “Then he set her on fire and tried to flee.

But some neighbours, who had come out on hearing the commotion, caught him,” added the officer. Jagannath, an MTNL employee, has been arrested.

Song explaining how to pronounce Eyjafjallajvkull a YouTube hit

London, May 13 (ANI): A song explaining the pronunciation of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajvkull is fast becoming a rage on YouTube.

The volcano made headlines after it erupted last month leaving passengers stranded across European airports.

And now Icelandic singer Eliza Newman is helping people to pronounce its name.

Her video has racked up more than 200,000 hits on YouTube.

Playing the ukulele, Newman croons:

Eyjafjallajokull is a long, long name

For such a small glacier, with such notorious fame

And Eyjafjallajokull has caused quite a stir

And no-one can fly anywhere except the birds

Please stop it Eyjafjallajokull

“The volcano has caused a lot of problems around the world, not least with people who haven””t been able to say it,” the Sun quoted Newman, as saying.

She added: “Anything I can do to help people get their tongue round the word is fantastic. Little songs and rhymes always help.” (ANI)

Brit teacher shouts ”die, die, die” at pupil during dumbbell attack

London, April 27 (ANI): A science teacher shouted “die, die, die” at a 14 year-old student while hitting the teen on his head with a 3kg dumbbell after the boy swore at him in class, a British court was told.

Peter Harvey, 50, is said to have beaten up the pupil after he began “sword fighting” a classmate with a wooden ruler while the former was trying to maintain order during a lesson for year 9 pupils.

Harvey flew into a rage when the boy picked up a Bunsen burner and told him to “f— off”.

Other students in Harvey”s class at All Saints” Roman Catholic School, Mansfield revealed how he dragged the boy out of the class and down the corridor.

One pupil said the teacher hit the boy on his head until his blood was “everywhere”.

Harvey is also said to have kicked a girl with behavioural problems last June and threatened to kill another female student who told him he was having a “mental breakdown”.

However, Stuart Rafferty QC, prosecuting, told the Nottingham Crown Court that Harvey was “well, happy and in a positive frame of mind” on the morning of the attack.

“A girl who had behaviour difficulties was being disruptive and was messing about with a white board and then started messing about with a window blind,” the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

Rafferty went on: “He told her to stop and there were words between them. He seems to have pulled her away from the window by her bag on her shoulder and shouted at her and it was alleged he kicked her.

“She left the classroom in a state of tears and some of the class took exception to the way she had been treated and started calling him a psycho. He didn”t seem to respond to that and told the class to get on with their work.”

He said the 14 year-old-boy, whose name cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, legal reasons then began to “mess around” with a wooden metre rule.

Rafferty said: “He was wandering about the classroom with it, sword fighting with another pupil, that sort of high jinx.

“He told him to put it down and he did. The boy then took out a metal Bunsen burner stand and was waving it about in a similar way.

“Mr Harvey chased him around the classroom and it came to a point when the boy told him to ”f*** off”.

“That seems to have lit the blue touch paper because Mr Harvey grabbed him by his collar and started dragging him out of the classroom.”

Rafferty continued: “He threw him to the ground and armed himself with a 3kg dumbbell and began to hit the boy about the head with it.

“He struck at least two blows to the head which caused serious injury, really serious injury.

“At the time the blows were being struck Mr Harvey was only heard to say one thing. What he was saying was ”die, die, die”.”

A 15-year-old girl, who followed Harvey down the corridor with the boy, said: “He grabbed a weight and hit him on the head constantly,” she said in a videotaped interview played to the court. “He didn”t stop and blood was everywhere. Everyone was screaming and then two people went and got teachers.”

The boy suffered a fractured right temple bone and severe cuts to his head in the attack.

Rafferty criticised Harvey for assaulting the boy, saying: “In any civilised society or culture, two wrongs do not make a right.

“There was simply no excuse for what happened.”

Harvey, who had teaching at All Saints” for 16 years, has admitted one count of grievous bodily harm without intent but denies a charge of attempted murder and an alternative charge of grievous bodily harm with intent to cause serious injury. (ANI)

Polanski prosecutors want child sex case to continue despite victim”s pleas

London, April 19 (ANI): Prosecutors involved in Roman Polanski’s child sex case have requested court officials to not accept his victim’s appeal to drop the charges against him.

Arsenal boss threw water bottle in rage after his team’s loss

London, Apr 19 (ANI): Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sent a water bottle flying after his team threw away a 2-0 lead in the final 10 minutes to crash 3-2 at Wigan, blowing up their Premier League dream.

“I don’t know who will win the title now and I don’t care. If we had won the game today of course we’d have been back in it,” Wenger said.

“To win championships you have to focus on the pitch and you have to do it for 90 minutes. Today we were not capable of maintaining it,” The Sun quoted Wenger, as saying.

Arsenal would have gone within three points of leaders Chelsea had they won, but Charles N’Zogbia capped a sensational fight back to virtually assure Wigan of Premier League survival.

Arsenal were never at their best but appeared to be going into the final 10 minutes. Yet Wenger felt they lost their discipline.

He said: “I believe we were not focused and not disciplined and we were caught. We were a bit unlucky as well but you have to keep focused for 90 minutes, otherwise you get punished, particularly when you are up against a team with nothing to lose.”

“After it went 2-0 we lacked cohesion and discipline. I always feared we could be punished.

“Personally I never felt the game was over. I saw we were having difficulties keeping the ball and creating other chances. They refused to give up and we were punished,” he said.

“It is the most disappointing defeat of the season, particularly with the way we conceded. It is difficult to understand and accept,” Wenger added. (ANI)

Primary school teachers in UK ”most at risk of assault”

London, March 29 (ANI): A new survey of teachers in the UK has suggested that primary school pupils are more likely to be violent than those in secondary schools.

The poll covering over 1000 teachers revealed that over one-fourth had been assaulted. One teacher even reported receiving death threats from a pupil”s family.

Members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers said they had been punched, kicked, scratched and bitten.

Stabbing took place in one in 100 incidents.

Forty-eight percent of primary school teachers reported physical aggression by students compared to 20 percent by those teaching at secondary school level.

It was revealed that dealing with poor behaviour disrupted class 97 percent of times when it occurred.

Although students generally assaulted other children, 26 percent of staff said they had been the victims of pupils” attacks.

About 4.5 percent of staff reported being physically hurt by a pupil while 40 percent said they considered quitting the profession because of children”s bad behaviour.

Sixty percent said pupils” behaviour had worsened over the last five years. A mere 3.3 percent thought it had improved.

“I have had a threat to my life from a parent because I told a child to complete their homework,” Times Online quoted one head of department at a state primary school in Essex, as saying.

The teacher added: “It was threatened that they and their family would kill me when I came to or from school.”

Another department head from a state secondary school in Leicestershire said: “I have been physically assaulted twice. Both times violent behaviour was aimed at another student but in their rage hit me.

“[I have been] sexually assaulted twice … I felt like going off sick but didn”t despite being physically sick each morning at the thought of going to work and wondering whether my teeth were going to get knocked out. I feel that we get no support from government – they have no idea of the reality of inner-city schools.”

Almost one in 15 staff said they took leave from work because of the effects of disruptive behaviour.

Twenty-six percent of the teachers from primary, secondary and further education colleges were dissatisfied with their school”s behaviour policy. (ANI)

‘Public sex, roid rage’ on HMAS Success

A Defence inquiry in Sydney has heard evidence of steroid abuse, public sex acts and inappropriate relationships among crew members on board HMAS Success.

Lieutenant Dianne Markowski, a Navy equity and diversity officer, is giving evidence at an inquiry into allegations of unacceptable behaviour aboard the ship.

She was sent to conduct behaviour workshops aboard HMAS Success in May last year.

In a statement to the inquiry, Lieutenant Markowski detailed a number of incidents she had been informed about as a result of the workshops.

In one case she was told two junior sailors had engaged in a public sex act in a Chinese bar.

A crew member had overheard two senior sailors talking about the incident. One of them had spoken about using an item in the bar as a megaphone to encourage other sailors to come and watch.

In another incident, a junior female sailor was allegedly assaulted by a male sailor during a steroid-fuelled rage.

The statement also outlined an incident involving a senior male sailor propositioning a female sailor for sex. The woman was allegedly told she would have a bounty placed on her head if she did not cooperate.

There was evidence in the statement about a group of three male sailors being overheard gloating about having sex with their female colleagues.

It is alleged the sailors were discussing details about the genitals of female sailors as a way to confirm they had slept with them.

Lieutenant Markowski said she was also approached by a junior female sailor who was so drunk during a stopover in Manila she could not recall whether she had consented to sex with a senior sailor.

The Lieutenant said the sailor felt extremely embarrassed when she woke up in a hotel room next to the man and she could not remember how the situation had come about.

Feared for safety

Lieutenant Markowski said one male sailor told her he had been threatened by a chief petty officer and he feared for his safety.

She told the inquiry the sailor had been extremely stressed and upset and feared that making a formal complaint would ruin his career.

The chief petty officer, along with three other male crew members, were removed from the ship when it docked in Singapore.

In evidence to the inquiry yesterday, the Commanding Officer of HMAS Success, Commander Simon Brown, said the sailors were ordered off because he believed they had made threats of physical violence against other sailors and he wanted to ensure the safety of his crew.

Under cross-examination, Lieutenant Markowski told the inquiry there was a “ship-wide acknowledgment” that a predatory culture existed on board HMAS Success.

She said the male marine technician Petty Officers were particularly negative during the training sessions she conducted to reinforce workplace values and they did not want to participate.

But the Lieutenant denied she took a confrontational approach to the group and accused the officers of failing to do their jobs.

MJ’s new signature dance move, Penguin, set to sweep fans

London, September 19 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s completely new signature dance move in a new footage while rehearsing for his comeback concerts may soon become a rage amongst his fans.

The King of Pop, in the move, being called as the Penguin, was seen flapping his right arm up and down very quickly as his body shimmied while standing on the spot.

Jackson was spotted doing the hilarious Penguin in the video, thought to be from the This Is It movie rehearsal footage, as renowned choreographer Kenny Ortega coached and watched him over, reports the Sun.

The move was due to expand his signature repertoire of dance steps including the legendary Moonwalk, Anti-Gravity Lean, and Crotch Grab.

It would be no surprise if kids and adults tried to ape the Jackson Penguin, which West End star Ricko Baird said was not easy to imitate.

He said: “Michael was just so talented and he made it all look so easy. Some of his moves like the Moonwalk – and now the Penguin – are actually very difficult and need a lot of practice.”

Business analyst Christian Severina, 35, London, said: “I love Michael Jackson and I love his dancing. But this was really tricky to do it with the same grace and speed he does it. I ended up looking like I was having a fit.”

Hannah Turner, 16, of Essex, added: “Oh my god I look like such a wally. Only Michael Jackson can make that look cool.” (ANI)

Britons spend 1 month of their lives looking for TV remote!

London, Sept 18 (ANI): Britons waste one month of their lives searching for the television remote control, a new study has found.

After studying 4,000 individuals, the researchers found that the average viewer loses it an average of 3.2 times a week and spends more than four minutes looking for it each time, reports The Scotsman.

That means each week Brits spend 15 minutes hunting for the device.

Kathryn Drought, of Sky, who led the study to launch the broadcaster’s Free Weekend Pass, said: “The remote control is such a well-used item in the nation’s homes.

“It’s one of those things we’re forever trying to find – normally down the back of the sofa.

“TV plays such a big part in our lives. It’s not surprising who is in control of the remote is such a hot household topic.”

Three in ten volunteers admitted hiding the remote from a partner or housemate, and 17 per cent have thrown it at someone in a fit of “remote rage”, the study found. (ANI)

Dame Judi Dench hates complaints about her on-screen swearing

London, September 12 (ANI): Dame Judi Dench has confessed that she hates it when people complain about her swearing in movies.

The veteran actress, who stars as Mona Carvell in new film ‘Rage’, is designated as a British national treasure.

The 74-year-old revealed that she was disturbed earlier when the British Board of Film Classification published its annual report, saying her resorting to abuses onscreen prompts complaints from the public.

“That upset me terribly, because I thought, in a way, that cancelled out the last 52 years,” the Guardian quoted her as saying.

“I thought ‘Does nobody ever believe anything I do? Can’t they for a minute think that I am playing another person, in another world, with another personality?

“Must they write and complain that it came out of my mouth?’ I was very depressed about it,” she added. (ANI)

Demi Moore threatens to sue blogger Perez Hilton over daughter’s pics

Washington, September 4 (ANI): Hollywood actress Demi Moore has threatened to sue celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, after she spotted a link on the latter’s site directing viewers to a set of “inappropriate” pictures of her teen daughter Tallulah.

The 15-year-old is the youngest of Demi’s three daughters with ex-husband Bruce Willis.

According to reports, the snaps Demi is angry at show the teen baring her chest in a revealing top, and wearing a tiny pair of shorts.

Moore has expressed her disgust about the pictures on her Twitter.com page, accusing the blogger of flouting child pornography laws.

“Expect another letter from my attorney, kitten,” Contactmusic quoted her as having written.

Moore goes on to rage about Hilton’s “exploitation” of teens in a series of furious posts.

She wrote: “Clearly Perez Hilton isn’t taking violating child pornography laws very seriously. He might not but there are a lot of people who do! Anyone who advertises follows or supports Perez supports violating child pornography laws!”

She further wrote: “Let me ask all of you, what is it called when someone is telling people to look and focus on a child’s ‘boobs and ass’ while providing photos? (It’s) child pornography! Or just being a general pervert/creep. Disgusting! This is not a game. Children should not be exploited. They must be protected.”

Hitting back at Morre, Hilton called her comments “libellous, defamatory, inaccurate and stupid.”

In a post on his own Twitter.com page, he writes: “Thanks for drawing MORE attention to your daughter’s behaviour and your parenting skills (or lack thereof). U r (sic) real smart! That is CLEARLY not child porn. And I didn’t even post those on my site! I would not let my 15 year old daughter dress like that under ANY context. You are delusional and slightly senile!” (ANI)

Muthoot’s family alleges conspiracy behind murder

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 29 (ANI): A week after Kerala business tycoon Paul Muthoot was found murdered, his family has refuted Kerala Police’s road rage claim saying that there’s something more creepy behind his death.

Jnanamma Thomas, Muthoot’s grandmother refuted Kerala police’s road rage angle, alleging a cover-up of a brutal murder of her grandson .

“They did not tell us there was an accident angle to it in the beginning. But only they told there was an accident,” she said.

George P Easo, a family member said, “Politicians are changing their statements every other day. We don’t know whom to believe.”

Earlier, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has dismissed opposition Congress charge that his son had links in connection with the recent murder of Muthoot group scion Paul M George.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Balakrishnan said, “My son (Beenish Kodiyeri) has no relation with the case whatsoever. The allegation that Beenish had connections with wanted gangsters was to create a ‘mystery’ over the case.”

Rejecting the charge that the Home Department was trying to interfere in the investigation process, he said a deliberate attempt was being made by vested interests to hamper the probe.

The government had nothing to hide in the case and was open to “any sort of investigation”, he added.

Balakrishnan also announced that a special investigation team had been constituted under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Vinson M. Paul to probe the murder of the Paul Muthoot George.

He said that the team was constituted as the inter-district ramifications of the case and deeper links would have to be probed in detail. The investigation would cover links of Muthoot George with goonda elements.

According to the police theory, a gang of nearly 22 men was behind the murder of Paul.

Paul was killed last Friday night on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road. A friend who was with him was injured and is in hospital; both were stabbed.

Paul, who was based in Delhi, had recently returned to Kerala to take charge of the leisure and hospitality arm. He was returning from an under-construction resort at Mararikulam when he was stabbed to death.

On Sunday, police arrested 12 persons, including notorious criminals, identified as Om Prakash and Rajesh. (ANI)

The Formula One championship pacesetter was fuming after his desire to win the title was questioned, reports The Sun.

Asked to react to claims his recent form suggested he did not want to win the drivers’ crown, Button lost his rag.

The Brawn GP star, who has seen his lead cut to 18 points after four races without a victory, blasted:

“I don’t think people are saying that seriously. Who would possibly say that? Does Jenson want to win the title or not? It is a pretty silly question isn’t it?

“Why the f*** am I here? That is not a question is it? Does he want to win the title? No, I want to finish second or third. What I would like to do now is stand up and walk away, have a good weekend and then we will talk about it afterwards. When you have one bad race there are always silly questions.”

Earlier Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel had pumped up the pressure on Button by telling him: You have gone off the boil!

The German ace, 22 reckons Button’s losing streak proves he is feeling the heat of the title battle.

He declared: “I am not giving up on the title.

Meet the $1 kiss Australian vendor!

Melbourne, Aug 27 (ANI): In what appears to be the most unique business venture, a guy in Sydney is selling kisses outside the Queen Victoria Building.

Single man Lachlan Christie has been kissing at one dollar for almost two weeks now, and he usually aims to make 5 to 10 dollars per day.

However, the 24-year-old insists it is an effort to break social norms.

“I’ve sold three kisses in the past 50 minutes. I’m doing it as a social experiment to get a chance to see people’s reactions,” The Australian quoted him as saying.

But he still hasn’t met enough women who are ready to receive kisses on the lips.

He added: “I want some brave girls to come up. A lot of people want to give me money but don’t want a kiss.”

Lachlan mentions that he is not trying to find a girlfriend.

He said: “It’s mainly for the reaction … to break down boundaries and challenge social norms,” he said. Once I get more well known, hopefully business will boom. It’s great toeing the line of whether people think you’re serious or not.”

Sydney’s Free Hugs Man, who is known by pseudonym Juan Mann, apparently inspires Lachlan.

The “Free Hugs” movement started at Pitt St Mall in 2004, which later became a rage worldwide. (ANI)

Ganesha Chaturthi festival charms devotees across the country

Bhubaneshwar/ Bangalore, Aug.23 (ANI): On the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi (birthday), many devotees in different parts of the country like to pay their special obeisance to Lord Ganesha in distinct ways.

In Bhubaneshwar, an artist has sculpted Lord Ganesha idols from soap for the 10-day annual Ganesha Chaturthi which commenced on Sunday (Aug.23).

Rao sculpted different kinds of idols of Lord Ganesha to exhibit them during the festival. Till date, he has sculpted 36 idols with soap.

“Ganesh festival has arrived and so I am sculpting different models of Lord Ganesha from different soaps. During Ganesha festival people including kids will come to watch these idols. I will teach the art free of cost to kids who are interested to learn,” said L. Eshwara Rao, an artisan.

In Bangalore, a man is running a museum where he has exhibited a wide variety of Ganesha idols for people.

S.Tyagarajan is a collector of Ganesha idols and has put on display 2,000 different idols of the deity in his museum.

He started collecting Ganesha idols after the death of his wife who was a devotee of Lord Ganesha.

Tyagarajan procured some of the idols from his friends living overseas. He says that people feel rejuvenated after visiting the museum.

“I see in everybody’s face who come to see my museum happiness. And they say that there is some sort of positive energy and positive aura when they come inside the museum. And some of them say that here they get a sort of feeling that they felt when they meditated when they come in museum,” said S.Tyagarajan, owner of a museum of Lord Ganesha.

Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals of Hindus in India.

On the concluding day of the festival, the idols are carried in grand processions and immersed in rivers or seas.

Lord Ganesha, is one of the most revered Gods of Hindus, and is worshipped at the beginning of every auspicious occasion.

Ganesha, as the God of knowledge is described as “Vinayaka”and as remover of obstacles he is called “Vighanharta”. He is worshipped at the beginning of every auspicious occasion for blessings of luck and success.

The son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears, and a huge pot-bellied body of a human being.

He is revered as the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles besides being worshipped as the God of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth.

Legend has it once Goddess Parvati, while bathing, created a boy out of the dirt of her body and assigned him the task of guarding the entrance to her bathroom. When Lord Shiva, her husband returned, he was surprised to find a stranger denying him access, and struck off the boy’s head in rage.

Parvati broke down in utter grief and to soothe her, Shiva sent out his squad (gana) to fetch the head of any sleeping being who was facing the north. The company found a sleeping elephant and brought back its severed head, which was then attached to the body of the boy. Shiva restored its life and made him the leader (pati) of his troops.

Hence, his name ‘Ganapati’. Shiva also bestowed a boon that people would worship him and invoke his name before undertaking any venture. By Sarda Lahangir / Jaipal Sharma (ANI)

Andre ‘gets furious over Alex Reid’s doting dad act’

London, Aug 21 (ANI): Kate Price’s estranged hubby Peter Andre flew into a rage after seeing photos of his kids with wife’s new lover and spilled his anger in a phone call to her, it has emerged.

Andre is enraged that cage fighter Alex Reid is interfering in his children’s lives and trying to play father to them.

According to insiders, an angry Andre gave a piece of his mind to Price when she called up to speak to the children and then put Alex on the line to chat with four-year-old Junior.

The Mirror quoted a source as saying: “Peter was outraged. He was screaming at Katie, saying ‘He’s not the father of my children’.

“Katie couldn’t believe it. One minute she was chatting to Junior and the next, Peter was on the line incandescent with rage.

“He started accusing her of completely inappropriate behaviour by frolicking with Alex in public in front of the kids.

“He hated the pictures of Junior playing with Alex, saying repeatedly that it ‘wasn’t right’.”

This was the first time in weeks that the couple spoke to each other.

“Peter has always taken his responsibilities as a father very seriously, so she can see where the anger has come from.”

Peter’s spokeswoman said he did never wanted the phone to get leaked.

“But at the same time, he wants to correct untruths – and the reason he was upset was because Katie passed the phone to Alex to speak to Junior,” she added.

She claimed Peter had “remained calm” during the call. (ANI)
