Worst Brit footie team ends 90-match losing streak with victory!

London, Sept 16 (ANI): Harraby Athletic, the worst football team in Britain, has finally tasted victory – after a losing streak of 90 matches.

The side has been on a losing spree since three years and was badly mauled in a 19-0 match in 2006.

The team concedes 10 goals a game on an average and their goalie has seen the ball netted over 400 times in less than three seasons.

The under-14 squad celebrated their first win after beating Edenvale Hawks 3-2 at their home ground, Hammond’s Park.

Sky News quoted coach Brett Preston as saying: “Pure determination has got us there and their faces after the game meant everything.

“All week I’ve had other managers phoning me up to congratulate us on our achievement.

“When we lost our first game 19-0, it could have even been a higher score as the opposing manager tried to help us by swapping players around and telling them to ease off.

“They just couldn’t help scoring against us. Gradually over time, the scores have come down, but we’re always bottom of the table and we’ve never even won a friendly match.”

Harraby has only one point in the Longhorn Youth Football League after the opponents did not play the game.

It consists of players who are either playing for the first time or have been rejected by other teams.he coach said: “They know that if they leave, they might not get the chance of a game as they might not get into another team.”

However, Preston also praised the determination of his boys.

He said: “The boys have been prepared to stick at it and been willing to learn. They turn up for training in all weathers and really deserve a win at last.” (ANI)

87 percent Pakistanis against ‘religious’ suicide attacks : Poll

Washington, Aug.18 (ANI): Majority of Pakistanis are against the suicide attacks being carried out in the country by banned terror outfits in the name of religion, a poll has revealed.

According to a poll conducted by Washington’s Pure Research Centre, 87 percent Pakistanis did not support the suicide attacks.

The percentage marks a major change in the view of Pakistani people since 2004 when only 41 percent people were against the attacks, The News reports.

The survey also revealed that 69 percent people considered India as the prime threat to the country, while 57 believed that it was the Taliban which possess real threat to Pakistan.

Majority of people (57 percent) did not support US’ subversive acts in the region, while four percent believed that Washington supports New Delhi in Kashmir dispute. (ANI)

Northern India International Trade Fair 2009 held in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, June 20 (ANI): A large number of people in Ludhiana recently got an opportunity to appreciate the artefacts of Pakistan displayed during the Northern India International Trade Fair 2009.

The week-long trade fair was an initiative to improve trade relations between India and Pakistan. It provided an opportunity to 36 members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry to set up their stalls and showcase their products.

Pure embroidered cotton suits, handloom and the world famous traditional ‘Kasuri Jutti’ were on display during the fair.

Most of the Pakistani exporters, who brought special embroidered clothes from across the border already have good client base in India. But the fair helped in better interactions with Indian clients.

“The embroidery of Multan is well-known. Multan is considered the home of embroidery and all sorts of embroidery work is done there. We have a collection of handwork, threadwork, Kota work and Kamdani. We have tried to bring almost all sorts of embroidered suits from the region,” said Sabeen, one of the exhibitors.

“Such fairs definitely bridge the gap between countries. If they come here and we cross over to the other side that for sure will reduce the gap. The Government should understand that this is the best way to lessen differences. The local public too enjoys the flavours of the fair,” said Arpana Agarwal, a visitor.

Meanwhile, other major attraction of the fair was Onyx marble, which is exclusively available in Pakistan.

The success of Indo-Pak trade fair helps give a fillip to trade between two neighbours, particularly in the context of a recent study that indicated a downturn trend.

According to a survey by Federation of Indian Chambers of Industry and Commerce (FICCI), cross-border trade between India and Pakistan is likely to witness a 60 per cent decline in fiscal 2009-10 as a result of deteriorating Indo-Pak relations after the terror attacks in India.

“The government took a very good step. I came especially when I heard that Pakistan is coming to the fair. I came to know about Pakistani culture and other things, which are famous there. The onyx pieces and showpieces are very attractive which I am seeing for the first time. Such things are not available in Ludhiana,” said Sunil Kumar, a visitor.

“Whenever there is any conflict between the countries it has a direct impact on the business. India and Pakistan should be natural partners; India is better in some fields whereas Pakistan is better in others. We should encourage cross-border trade without depending on other countries but for this to happen the differences should end,” said

Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, former president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The key sectors in India-Pakistan bilateral trade included textiles and clothing, cotton, agricultural products, steel and chemicals.

Priyanka takes on Modi, says Congress is not old

Amethi, Apr. 11 (ANI): Congress party’s star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi has lashed out at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for comparing the Congress party to a ‘budhia’ (old woman), and asked people if she looked old.

“Do I look old to you? Does Sonia Gandhi (Congress president and her mother), Rahul Gandhi or I look old to you,” she asked people of Khalidpur village, while addressing a rally there.

During his election campaigns, Modi has repeatedly been asking the voters to choose the 30-year-old “young” BJP the Congress party over a “125-year-old budhia”.

Priyanka, who is the poll manager for her mother Sonia and brother Rahul, kick started her electioneering work from Amethi and Raebareli, respectively.

Addressing a rally in Furshatganz, Priyanka outlined the development work done by her brother Rahul Gandhi by citing his works done in the field of education and health, including a hospital in Munshiganj.

“Rahul has done a lot for the people. As you know, the state government has not been of much help in carrying out development projects and whatever work has been done is with the Centre’s help,” the younger Gandhi sibling said, while aiming the Mayawati Government.

Priyanka seemed to have struck an emotional cord with people of his father Rajiv Gandhi’s Karbhoomi.

“You have given a lot of love and support and I don’t want to insult your love by asking for votes. We will always be grateful to you,” she said.

“In this election drama a lot of people will come and ask for your votes on the basis of religion and caste. It is for you to decide whom to vote,” she added.

Priyanka, who was busy in the rituals after her father-in-law’s demise, will visit a number of villages, local representative of the UPA chairperson KL Sharma said.

According to the party sources, Priyanka Gandhi will visit villages Pure pal, Pure Chirai, Sambhawa, Belkhaur, Sambhawa, arai Hriday Shah, Anapur and is also expected to hold road-shows. (ANI)

25,000 people may donate blood during Hola Mohalla celebrations

Amritsar, Feb.27 (ANI): To set a unique example by a community, various Sikh originations are going to hold world’s largest blood donation camp on the occasion of the Hola Mohalla celebrations on March 10 at the Sikh shrine of Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib.

About one million devotees are expected to arrive here on the occasion of Hola Mohalla celebrations here, when the huge blood donation camp will be organized.

Large number of Sikhs and members of other communities are expected to arrive at Anandpur Sahib from all over India and Punjab to participate in the festival and donate blood.

According to the Akal Purakh ki Fauj (meaning the Army of the Almighty), the camp will be one of the biggest blood donation camps in the world.

“The participating organisations had fixed the target for donating blood by 25,000 people in the first 24 hours, which would make it the biggest camp in the world,” said Jaswinder Singh Advocate, Head Anand Pur Ki Fauj.

The Guinness Book of World Records has been invited for the historic and biggest-ever blood donation camp, he added.

The blood camp will be organized on the campus of the Khalsa College at Anandpur Sahib.

The motivation behind organizing this camp is Giani Gurbachan Singh, jathedar, Akal Takht, who has appealed donating blood, eyes and other parts of the body for the benefit of humanity.

Anandpur Sahib is the place where the tenth Sikh Guru (master), Gobind Singh, had founded the ‘Khalsa’ (The Pure) on April 13, 1699. The modern Sikh religion, known for its bravery, sacrifice and entrepreneurship, derives much of its inspiration from the ‘Khalsa Panth’.

Hola Mahalla (also Hola Mohalla or simply Hola) is a Sikh festival which begins on the first day of the lunar month of Chet in the Nanakshahi calendar. It most often falls in March, and sometimes coincides with the Sikh New Year.

The festival lasts for a week, and consists of camping out and enjoying various displays of fighting prowess and bravery, followed by kirtan, music, and poetry. y Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)

Odd-looking Martian craters indicate hidden ice

Washington, Jan 4 (ANI): Scientists have defined and analyzed odd-looking Martian craters, which according to them, indicates hidden ice.

Surface features common in the northern and southern mid latitudes of Mars and known as lobate debris aprons and lineated valley fill are believed to have formed either as debris flows mobilized by pore ice or as debris-covered glaciers.

To learn more, Ailish M. Kress and James W. Head, both from the Department of Geological Sciences, Brown University Providence Rhode Island, US, have defined and analyzed ring mold craters, which are abundant on debris aprons and lineated valley fill but not seen in surrounding terrain.

Ring mold craters are concentric crater forms named for their similarity to the cooking implement, in contrast to the bowl-shaped craters that are common at such small sizes.

On the basis of similarities in shape of ring mold, craters to laboratory impact craters in ice and of the physics of impact cratering into pure ice, the authors interpreted that ring mold craters result from projectiles hitting relatively pure ice below a thin debris layer.

These results support the hypothesis that lobate debris aprons and lineated valley fill are debris-covered glaciers and that many hundreds of meters of ice remain in these deposits today on Mars. (ANI)
