Punjab bans advertisements by doctors

Chandigarh, Oct 30 (IANS) The Punjab government Sunday announced a ban on advertisements by doctors – from allopathic, ayurvedic and homoepathic streams – offering treatment of various diseases, including sexual ailments.

“Registered medical pract

itioners (RMPs) of homoeopathy, ayurveda and allopathy issuing advertisements and promising assured treatment of various ailments, including sexual ailments, are in for trouble, as the Punjab government has decided to tighten the noose on them,” a spokesman quoting Medical Education and Research Minister Arunesh Shakir said Sunday.

Shakir issued directions to initiate action against all those doctors who were advertising through various media, including print, broadcast and outdoor media, for treatment of various ailments.

He also issued directions to start a campaign to stop advertisements by RMPs as these were in violation of the guidelines of the Medical Council of India.

The minister said that it was unfortunate that some medical practitioners dealing in homoeopathy, ayurveda and allopathy were giving advertisements and putting up hoardings offering total rejuvenation in cases of sexual problems and assuring the birth of male child.

Punjab has one of the worst sex ratio among all states in the country at 893 females per 1,000 males.

“It is unethical as well as illegal for a doctor to advertise and any doctor issuing advertisements would be issued show cause notice by the affiliating body and proceedings would be launched for the cancellation of his licence,” said the minister.

‘Bankrupt’ Pak Punjab Govt. has no money to pay salaries to employees: PML-Q

Lahore, Jun.4 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has launched a blistering attack on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab, blaming it for ruining the province’s finances to such an extent that it doesn’t even have money to pay salaries to its employees.

Addressing a press conference here, senior PML-Q leader and former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi blamed incumbent chief minister Shabaz Sharif for the “total administrative and financial collapse of the province.”

Elahi tabled a white paper on, what he called the “black deeds” of the Punjab government, saying that on May 30, the government had only 420 million rupee in its account.

“It (provincial government) sought the federal government’s help, which enabled it pay salaries by transferring money to its account on the last day of the month. That is how a surplus, in every sense of the word, province has been turned into a bankrupt federating unit all because of lack of vision, egotist policies and sheer incapability of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif,” The Dawn quoted Elahi, as saying.

The former chief minister also blamed ruling Members of Provincial Assembly (MPA’s) of being involved in various crimes committed across the province.

“In the last two years, crime has gone up by 48 per cent, which is a matter of official record. All kinds of heinous crimes are being committed with impunity and ruling MNAs and MPAs are involved in such crimes. Extra judicial killings have also gone up. The police budget is multiplying along with the crime rate,” Elahi said. (ANI)

Ahmedis shocked with kid glove treatment of mosque attackers by Pak Punjab Govt

Lahore, Jun.4 (ANI): After the brazen attack on two mosques belonging to a minority sect in Lahore last Friday, people of the Ahmedi sect hoped that the Punjab government would take some important steps to protect the marginalized strata of the society, but it was not to be.

Amazingly, when the provincial authorities should have been dealing with the militants, who were nabbed alive during the commando operation on the Garhi Sahu and Model Town mosques, with force, they are busy in facilitating the demands of the terror mongers.

According to reports, one of the injured terrorists was allowed to use his cell phone in the hospital and the authorities even arranged a meeting between him and his family members.

The Ahmedis have severely criticised the provincial government for failing to act tough against the militants who were nabbed after murdering innocent people.

“Several terrorist attacks have been seen in the past, but none of the terrorists were treated so lovingly… none were allowed to communicate with their fellows, who then attempt to free him and manage to safely escape… God knows what they had wanted to achieve and the worst part is that they are still at large,” The Daily Times quoted Munawar Ali Shahid, a spokesman for the Ahmedi sect, as saying.

“The only option that an Ahmedi has is either to leave the country or be killed at the hands of a terrorist,” Shahid added.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which is in opposition in the province, has also launched an attack on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led Punjab government, saying the attack on the Ahmedi mosques was a “clear case of negligence.”

“People have lost faith in the Punjab government after the latter contested elections in coordination with terrorist outfits in Jhang and the way the authorities handled the Gojra incident makes it seem that they have an agenda against minorities,” PPP’s Lahore President Chaudhury Asghar Ali Gujjar said. Drug addiction, a curse for youth in border areas of Punjab

Tarn Taran (ANI), May 4: The problem of drug addiction is steadily assuming alarming proportions in Punjab’s border areas which include many villages adjoining Pakistan.

Several youth, who were expected to take up their traditional agricultural business, are instead, trapped in the drugs’ world.

Though many families are affected by the drugs’ menace, the Punjab Government has done precious little to prevent its trafficking. The worsening condition of the youth highlights the problem.

One can easily get a gram of heroin for rupees 1,000.00, smack for Rs. 300.00 a gram or an injection of morphine for as little as Rs. 25, and that too, without prescription from a medical practitioner.

Not just that, but local drug addicts have given interesting names to name these drugs. “Sharabi Samaan” (Liquor material) is used to denote smack whereas heroin is called “Kishti Samaan” (Boat material).

Synthetic drugs are also in high demand, as any old addict may require as much as over 25 morphine injections for his body.

The case of HIV/AIDS through drug-addiction or using the used syringes is also on increase in the area.

A drug addict for years said that he never wanted to indulge into the menace, but unavoidable family circumstances and his association with bad society pushed him to drug abuse.

“I have studied till XII grade and cleared IELTS. But due to unemployment and family pressure, I took to drugs. I know it is not good for my health but I am helpless,” said a drug addict, requesting anonymity.

He said there were over 50 youth of his village who are into drug addiction. But he said he wished the government could have done something for their rehabilitation in villages.

Admitting to the rise of drug abuse in Punjab, Pritpal Singh Virk, Special Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran District, said the police have undertaken some initiatives to prevent drug addiction here.

“Police are aware that youth in Punjab are getting into this trade. Punjab Police have also initiated an awareness drive to educate parents and youth about the evils of drug abuse,” Virk said.

About 100 kilometres of the international border area falls in Tarn Taran District, and though there are bleak chances of border-crossing, drug-drop offs are taking place from the Pakistan’s side.

“We will not let anybody who is in this trade to addict youth,” he said.

There are many de-addiction camps being run privately, Government hospitals also have de-addiction centres but they fail to provide results.

Dr. Rana Ranbir Singh, a psychiatrist and in-charge of a government run drug de-addiction center, said that for the last two-and-a-half-years, there has been about 100 percent occupancy at the center, which shows an increase in drug abuse.

He also revealed that most drug addicts belong to the 16 to 35 age group, which indicates the high vulnerability of young people in the border belt.

He, however, said that basically it is a psychological problem and that there is a tremendous need for rehabilitation centers. (ANI)

Pak Punjab Govt. providing VIP protocol to jailed ‘Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’ leaders

Lahore, Apr 26(ANI): The Pakistan Punjab Government is reportedly providing financial support and other amenities to jailed leaders of the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ), including top hitman Malik Ishaq.

According to reports, Ishaq, who has been acquitted in 44 different cases of 70 murders and is currently being held for involvement in last year’s attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, as well as other high profile terrorists are getting VIP protocol in prison.

Ishaq is currently detained in a jail in Punjab.

The leaders are also allowed to use cell phones, which they might use to plan attacks with their accomplices outside the prison, The Daily Times reports.

Sources also revealed that it is an old practice of the government as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Governments led by Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had also extended financial support and VIP protocol to the late Maulana Azam Tariq, chief of the banned militant organisation Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, when he was in prison.

Tariq was even provided with a mobile squad and police security whenever he went out of the prison, they added. (ANI)

Action against Musharraf in Benazir case after ‘concrete’ evidence is found: Malik

Islamabad, Apr.20 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that action against former President General Pervez Musharraf in the slain Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case would be taken after ‘concrete’ evidence is gathered against him.

While the UN’s fact finding team, in its probe, has blamed the Musharraf regime for Bhutto’s assassination, Malik said the tragic incident took place due to the Punjab government’s failure to provide full security cover to Bhutto.

Malik said Pakistani officials are still probing the former premier’s murder, The Dawn reports.

It may be noted that the UN commission had also accused Pakistani intelligence agencies and other authorities of hampering the probe against those who masterminded the gun and bomb attack.

Meanwhile, insiders said that the government is contemplating action against Musharraf’s close relatives, who have been indicted in the UN report.

According to sources, the Presidency is in consultations with various authorities to initiate action against Major General Nadeem Ijaz and Major General (retired) Nusrat Naeem. (ANI)

Wellington, Mar 16(ANI): New Zealand cricket supporters group, the Beige Brigade, has said that Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke will be “copping it” from the crowd during the first Test between Australia and New Zealand at Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Lahore, Mar.16 (ANI): A day after Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif pleaded with the Taliban to exempt the region from violence, the banned terror outfit has proposed a deal with the government, saying the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) would not carry out attacks if there is no action against it in Punjab.

According to a private television channel, TTP’s Mohmand Agency chief Abdul Wali alias Umar Khalid, who is also considered the deputy of TTP chief Hakeemullah Mehsud, said that if the Punjab government assured that the Taliban would not be targeted in Punjab then the TTP would also respond.

It may be noted that speaking during a seminar at a mosque on Sunday (March 14), Shahbaz had pleaded to the Taliban to not to carry out attacks in Punjab.

“General Pervez Musharraf planned a bloodbath of innocent Muslims at the behest of others only to prolong his term in office, but we, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) opposed the former president’s policies and rejected the dictation being received from abroad. If the Taliban are also fighting for the same cause, then they should not carry out acts of terror in the province of Punjab,” Shahbaz had said.

Shahbaz, however, later defended his remarks, saying he was ‘misreported’ and his statements were twisted by the media. (ANI)

Fear paralyses residents following series of low intensity blasts in Lahore

Lahore, Mar.13 (ANI): Just hours after Lahore was rocked with two powerful bomb blasts which killed 42 persons and wounded over 100, the city was rattled with six low intensity blasts petrifying local citizens further.

Though there were no casualties reported in the five explosions that occurred in Iqbal Town locality and one in Samanabad, the series of the blasts sent shock waves across the city, which witnessed massive bloodshed earlier in the day.

The first explosion took place near the behind the Allama Iqbal Town Police Station. At least four persons were injured in the blast.

The second one took place just few yards away from the site of the first blast in a parked car, The Daily Times reports.

Just when the bomb disposal squad arrived on the spot, the third bomb exploded just a few metres away.

Another blast took place in the garage of senior police official Khalid Javed’s residence. Investigators are yet to verify the nature of the blast and that how the bomb reached Javed’s house.

The city’s famous Moon market, which had witnessed a massive bomb blast in December last year killing 45 persons and injuring 130 others, was also rocked later in the evening.

Moon market is a commercial center of Iqbal Town, where a large number of shoppers especially women and children are present in large numbers at any given day.

In Samanabad, a low intensity explosion also took place outside DSP Riaz Ahmed’s residence.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government was warned about terrorists planning massive strikes in Lahore and other parts of the province.

Despite there being intelligence input regarding extremists trying to target the office of the Special Intelligence Agency (SIA) and Lahore Cantonment, the law enforcing agencies failed completely to prevent the attacks. (ANI)

Pak cricketers’ financial assets to be scrutinised following match fixing allegations

Islamabad, Mar. 8 (ANI): Pakistan’s National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports has decided to scrutinize the financial assets of Pakistani cricketers in the wake of match fixing allegation.

“We are very much concerned over the continuous criticism from different circles over match fixing and have directed PML (N) legislator Saud Majeed, chairman sub-committee, to probe into these allegations. The sub-committee will also scrutinize the financial strength of the players besides verifying their tax returns,” The Dawn NA committee chief Jamshed Ahmed Dasti, as saying

However, PCB chief Ijaz Butt informed the NA committee that the players who were involved in match-fixing were not from the current squad.

“The match fixing allegations are totally baseless and the current tour of the squad to Australia was not tainted by match fixing at all,” Butt said.

He claimed that that former cricketers Saleem Malik and Ataur Rehman were in fact responsible for match fixing.

The NA committee also gave a deadline of March 11 to the Punjab government for bring responsible police officers to book who displayed slackness during their duty on March 3, 2009 when the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by terrorists in Lahore. (ANI)

Pakistan’s Adiala Jail to build family suites for married prisoners

Rawalpindi, Sep 1 (ANI): Pakistan’s Adiala Jail, where the trial of Mumbai terror suspects are going on, has acquired 87 acres of land to build family suites for married prisoners in compliance with a decision of Federal Shariat Court (FSC) that married prisoners can maintain contacts with their spouses.

Jail Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal said acknowledgment of fundamental rights of prisoners would be beneficial to eliminate old jail culture.

He said Adiala Jail authorities had acquired 87-acre land and the Punjab government would provide funds to build family suites, separate jail for women and juvenile prisoners.

The Daily Times quoted him as saying that jail authorities were in favour of providing conjugal rights to married prisoners because it would have positive impact on their personalities.

Gondal said that over 6000 prisoners were locked in Adiala Jail including 200 women and juvenile prisoners, claiming they had been given various opportunities to bring a positive change in their personalities.

He said the jail authorities had set up a factory that manufactured carpets, iron rods, hospital beds, kit boxes and others things. “And the prisoners who worked in the factory are paid on monthly basis,” he said.

“Women inmates have facilities to play board games and badminton in the jail,” he said, adding there were table tennis courts for juvenile prisoners and foreigner prisoners could play football in the jail ground.

“We have established a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts and they have been locked in separate barracks to lessen their contacts with other inmates,” he said.

He said the prisoners had been provided food according to a special diet program. (ANI)

No LeT, JeM operatives in Pak CID’s latest ‘Red Book’ of wanted terrorists

Lahore, Aug.29 (ANI): Pakistan Punjab province’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) has released its 12th ‘Red Book’ containing names of most wanted high profile terrorists.

The book, which also includes the names of those involved in sectarian violence, mentions a combined head money of 54 million rupees announced by the Punjab government for the militants.

Incredibly, the book which contains the names of 91 most dreaded terrorists does not have names of any of the Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives or Jaish-e-Mohammad militants.

The Red Book is divided into three categories. The first category names 20 individuals involved in suicide attacks. Out of these, 12 carry head money, while the CID is still collecting the information on the remaining eight, The Daily Times reports.

The terrorists named in the book are also accused of planning suicide attacks in Bahawalpur and Mailsi, training recruits, operating terrorist training camps and links with the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Outlawed terrorist outfits such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) may be on the US’s list of most dreaded terror groups, but it seems Pakistan does not consider them dangerous as far as the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) recently released ‘Red Book’ of terrorists is concerned. Punjab border farmers complain of official neglect

Noshehra Dhalla (Indo-Pak Border), Aug.9 (ANI): India and Pakistan has a long stretch of border where a barbed wire works as a fence to prevent any militant from sneaking in. But the same wire is also a major roadblock for Punjabi farmers who want to tend to their own land.

Resident farmers living in the few villages, situated just a few metres from the barbed fencing in the Attari and Ajnala sector, today rue the fact that the Punjab Government has not taken their livelihood concerns into consideration.

These farmers are now unable to cultivate their land which is spread beyond fencing.

These farmers can cultivate their land but only with the permission of Border Security Force (BSF) and the other state department officials.

The villages namely Noshehra Dhalla, Bidhi Chand Chhina and Haveliayan, Kakkar have more than 1500 acres of land beyond the fencing. But the non-issuance of tubewell connections by the electricity board prevents the farmers from cultivating their land, say border farmers.

Farmers like Harbhajan Singh, who has 10 acres of land beyond fencing, allege that some of them have already deposited the fee while others are ready to deposit it. But the department has not provided them with the connections.

He adds that they are not allowed free access to their land and there are only select entry points. Some farmers have to cover a distance of two to three kilometres to reach their fields.

Besides, farmers say that it felt like a double set back to them when the government stopped paying them rupees 2,500 as compensation money that was paid 10 years ago the last time.

Farmers say they are not even allowed to grow crops and have to depend on traditional crops, wheat and paddy.

Kuldeep Singh, who owns nearly 30 acres of land beyond the fencing, says he harvested sesame for 20 years. Now, he says the security personnel are not allowing him to harvest the crop.

He contends that the sesame crop can be cultivated even when there is a shortage of water.

The farmers have urged the government to either acquire their land across the barbed fencing or take their land on contract. The farmers today fear low produce due less electricity supply and a delayed monsoon.

Perturbed by the erratic electricity supply, Kehar Singh, the village head of Noshehra Dhalla, pointed out that farmers who are keen to take labourers for cultivation, also face harassment. A major portion of the land across the fencing is not utilized due many hurdles including the non-friendly attitude of the electricity department.

But State electricity officials deny having wronged the farmers.

Rajiv Kumar, Chief Engineer, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), Border Zone, said that those who had applied before 1990 were given the connections and none of the applications was pending in the border areas.

Kumar said that normally throughout the year the PSEB supplies electricity either between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10a.m. to 5 a. m. according the availability of the electricity.

Kumar informed that in the coming five years, the PSEB would provide a transformer to each tubewell.

He, however, assured that if he received the representation from the farmers he would try to rectify their problems in a better manner.

India had fenced the Punjab frontier in the early 1990s by erecting barbed wire along the Indio-Pak international border to keep terrorists and smugglers at bay.

The 553-kilometres-long international border between India and Pakistan, which has 300 gates along the electrified barbed wire fencing in Punjab, also involves thousands of acres of land of the Indian farmers. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)

PPP, PML-N accuse each other of corruption

Islamabad, Aug. 9 (ANI): The Pakistan People’s Party has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership in Punjab of ‘widespread corruption’, while the PML-N has rebuffed the allegation, charging the federal government of appointing ‘criminals to high positions’.

PPP’s Information Secretary Fouzia Wahab levelled charges against the Punjab government of colluding with the Transparency International’s report, which had claimed that the corruption was declining in Punjab.

“Whenever a PPP government comes into power, the Transparency acquires some kind of an extra vision, prompting it to put the country on top of the list of corrupt countries. It is probably working in association with a political party with an agenda to malign the government, creating a bad impression of the PPP,” The Dawn quoted her, as saying.

She said the PPP leadership had been ‘persecuted’ for 13 years.

“Once again they are trying to prove that there is good governance in Punjab, where five members of the provincial assembly have been found to be involved in misuse of authority and another involved in a case of theft.

“They wasted 9 billion rupees on the Food Stamp Programme, but where does this scheme exist? In contrast, the federal government has started the Benazir Income Support Programme and people in every nook and corner of the country are benefiting from it,” she said.

PML-N’s Central Joint Secretary Zahim Qadri said the PPP “must stop blaming others to hide its own corruption.”

He claimed the PPP had appointed people of dubious character to important posts.

Qadri warned that statements like Wahab’s would harm efforts to improve harmony in the country. (ANI)

Pak govt. seeks adjournment of hearing of Saeed case

Islamabad, July 16 (ANI): The Pakistan government has requested the Supreme Court to suspend the hearing of the detention of Jamaat-ud-Daawa (JuD) chief Hafeez Mohammad Saeed for a week.

It cited the unavailability of Attorney General, Sardar Latif Khosa as the reason for the request, the Dawn reports.

“We have filed an application with a request to the Supreme Court that the attorney general wants to plead the government’s point of view himself because it is an important case having far reaching implications, but he is not available on Thursday when the case will be taken up,” said the Deputy Attorney General, Shah Khawar.

However, the apex court declined to accept the application immediately. It is believed that it will ultimately accept the request.

The court directed the attorney general to inform the Punjab government and Hafiz Saeed’s counsel about the proposal. (ANI)

Pak govt. may file fresh petition against Saeed to ‘showcase its commitment’

Lahore, July 15 (ANI): It seems that the threat of adverse international reaction over the failure of the Pakistani government to detain the Jamaat-ud-Daawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, the prime accused in the November 2008 Mumbai terror strikes may see the federal government file a fresh petition against him, even if the Punjab government decides to withdraw its case.

The provincial government, on Tuesday (July 14) had said that it lacks evidence against Saeed, so it was difficult for it to continue the case.

Punjab Advocate General, Raza Farooq told the Supreme Court that the government had instructed him to withdraw the petition.

Legal experts said the federal government can not challenge the provincial government if the later decides to withdraw the petition.

“If Punjab believes that it does not have sufficient grounds to challenge the high court’s verdict, the federal government will have no legal basis to keep pursuing the appeal as it exists now,” The Dawn quoted a senior lawyer, as saying.

Experts said the federal government may file a fresh petition, or work through some other law to keep Saeed behind bars, as his release could severely damage Islamabad’s image internationally.

“The federal authorities, therefore, may invoke some law that allows it to hold and arrest Saeed without having to involve the provincial government which somehow seems reluctant to take action against him,” said a top official on conditions of anonymity.

“The laws that the federal government may invoke will have a much larger and could cover his activities allegedly injurious to both internal and external order,” he added.

However, former Attorney General, Malik Qayyum said that the federal government does not have powers to detain anyone, which only the provincial government can.

“Detention is meant to prevent someone from doing something. This is exclusively the provincial domain. Still the federal government can arrest people for acts they have already allegedly committed,” said Qayyum. (ANI)

BJP asks Govt. act with care during talks with Pakistan

New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party has cautioned the United Progressive Alliance government ahead of discussions with Pakistan in the wake of the Pakistani Government’s withdrawal of appeal challenging Pakistan High court’s order to release Hafiz Saeed, the top LeT operative wanted in Mumbai terror attacks of last November.

Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said that the Government should take note of the release of Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and should act with care.

“Hafiz Saeed (a top operative of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba) issue is also a major issue and also an example that how Pakistan is trying to be soft on people who are engaging in terrorism. This is a classic case and India should convey it to Pakistan even before the resumption of talks,” said Naidu in New Delhi.

As the Supreme Court (SC) was to hear petitions on Tuesday against the release of the Jammat ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed by the Lahore High Court, the Punjab government informed the apex court that it has decided to withdraw the case against Hafiz Saeed and filed a plea for withdrawal of the case.( Watch )

Pak Punjab Govt has ‘confidential evidence’ against Saeed, withdraws case

Islamabad, July 14 (ANI): The government in Pakistan’s Punjab province has decided to disassociate itself from the Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed case and filed a plea for its withdrawal.

On Monday, the provincial government informed the Supreme Court that it has challenged the release of Saeed due to certain “confidential evidence” against him.

According to Punjab Advocate General Raza Farooq, Saeed was put under house arrest on the directive of the federal government, which failed to provide solid evidence to maintain his house arrest.

Therefore, Farooq said the Punjab Government has decided to disassociate itself from the case and a petition for withdrawal has been filed with the Supreme Court.

Farooq on Monday told the three-member bench hearing pleas against a Lahore High Court (LHC) decision to release Saeed and Colonel (retired) Nazir Ahmed that Saeed was detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 1961.

However, Section 3 was not mentioned in the detention order. The three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, asked the Punjab AG to satisfy the apex court, the Daily Times reports.

The AG said there was sufficient evidence against Saeed, but it could not be made part of the case record because it was confidential.

Farooq also submitted that it was binding on the government to implement resolutions adopted by the UN.

He said the detention of Saeed had become necessary, as the UN had levelled allegations that Saeed was linked to Al Qaeda and was allegedly involved in some terror-related incidents at an international level.

The Pakistan and the Punjab Governments, through their petitions, requested the court to set aside the LHC decision of ending the detention of Saeed and Col (retired) Nazir Ahmed.

The petitions claimed the LHC had not considered the sensitivity of the case, especially in light of the prevailing security situation. (ANI)
