Shera plays host, eases anxieties of applicants

New Delhi, May 28 — Students who went to collect the application forms on day one of the Delhi University’s admission form sale at the Faculty of Arts centre were in for a surprise as they were greeted by Shera – the mascot of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010. As part of the promotion of the CWG, the organising committee will conduct a quiz competition based on the commonwealth games and the mascot, Shera, will try to lighten the atmosphere through out the form sale period, May 28 to June 11, said CWG officials.

“We want to relieve the students of the pressure they are under and create a friendly atmosphere. Simultaneously, we also want to create awareness about Shera and the games.

Though most students of Delhi know about the games, those outside Delhi are not really aware of it so we are trying to familiarise them,” said an Assistant Project Officer of the organising committee. Students took a break from the form-filling process and participated in the quiz contest.

Questions such as “When and when were the first CWG held?” and “What are the two colours of CWG?” were answered by students. One lucky student would be awarded each day with a goodie bag.

Aimed at humouring the students, Shera, entertained some of them as they posed and clicked pictures with the mascot of the CWG. But some of them were not amused at all.

Hudson couldn”t stop laughing while filming spanking scene in new film

London, May 18 (ANI): Kate Hudson found it hard to film a violent scene with Casey Affleck in new movie ‘The Killer Inside Me’ because she couldn’t stop laughing.

Affleck spanks the actress, while lying semi-naked on a bed in the scene.

“There were a couple (of spankings) in there when I thought, ”God, Casey!” He got a bit of power behind it. It was definitely real,” the Daily Star quoted Hudson, as saying.

She added: “It depends on your sense of humour where you draw your boundaries. After about the 20th spank we all started to laugh because you become quite comfortable with the idea and it becomes about the technical side of things.

“I”ve known Casey for so long that you can”t help but laugh every now and then. I”m pretty comfortable with my body. I”m imperfect. The imperfections are there. People are going to see them, but I take the view you only live once, and, hey, I”m getting spanked today!”

Hudson plays the girlfriend of a psychotic killer, played by Affleck, in the film. (ANI)

Obama plays golf eight times more than Bush

London, April 20(ANI): US President Barack Obama’s love for golf seems to exceed his predecessor George Bush’s fascination with the game.

Obama has played golf 32 times since he took office, which is apparently eight times more than Bush did in his entire presidency.

After his trip to Krakow for the funeral of Lech Kaczynski got cancelled due to flying bans over Europe, the US president immediately headed to the course, reports the Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the Warsaw Business Post in Poland carried a headline that read: “Obama goes golfing instead of attending Kaczynskis” funeral”.

Bush was often criticized for playing golf during his tenure.

However, he had ultimately decided to quit.

He ha said in 2008: “I don”t want to some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf… And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.” (ANI)

Anasta plays down Roosters’ form

Despite a strong start to the 2010 NRL season, Roosters captain Braith Anasta is wary of crowing too loudly about his side’s form.

The Roosters finished with the wooden spoon last year but have won three of their first four matches this season.

The tri-colours have defeated the Rabbitohs, Tigers and Broncos, but in week three they were smashed by the Bulldogs.

Anasta expects his young squad to improve even more.

“I wouldn’t say we’re up with the Melbournes and St Georges, you’ve got to earn that, and that comes with consistency,” he said.

“But if you say we’re a top eight team I’d say definitely,

“We still haven’t reached our potential, in attack or in defence. Obviously (our) defence has been a problem for a few years for us but with our attack, we’re still scoring points.

“I think we’ve got more points in us and we’re definitely a top eight team.”

Sydney Roosters meet the Penrith Panthers this weekend.

Sir Anthony Hopkins ‘causing friction on Thor set’

London, April 1 (ANI): Sir Anthony Hopkins is reportedly causing problems on the set of his new fantasy film ‘Thor’ by constantly being overly critical of his co-star Chris Hemsworth”s acting abilities.

The New York Daily News has claimed that Hopkins, who plays Odin, King of the Norse Gods, is causing friction on the set of the upcoming blockbuster by constantly criticising Hemsworth, who takes on the title role of ‘Thor’.

“Anthony has not tried to hide his disapproval of Chris” acting skills. Chris is definitely the least-experienced actor on set, but he”s trying. He respects Anthony a great deal, and it looks like he”s trying to grin and bear all of his criticism,” the Daily Express quoted an insider as telling the publication.

“Anthony keeps complaining that they”re shooting too many scenes inside the L.A. studio and not enough on location. He isn”t used to this kind of work, and his pessimism is really starting to wear everyone down,” the insider added. (ANI)

Will Smith ‘causing problems on wife’s show set’

New York, Mar 29 (ANI): Actor Will Smith has been accused of causing problems on the set of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s show ‘HawthoRNe’.

According to a source, TNT executives are blaming the show’s current issues on Smith, who is co-producer on “HawthoRNe”, saying he isn’t cooperating with the rest of the team.

“He is not currently shooting a movie, so he’s been a constant on the set in recent weeks,” the New York Daily News quoted the network source as saying.

“He’s been inserting his input and requesting so many changes to the script that it pushed back the production schedule tremendously and caused everything to spiral out of control,” the source added.

Pinkett Smith plays a nurse on the hit show, which premiered last year to stellar ratings.

But despite the first season’s success, our insider says her husband wants the dramatic scenes pushed to the limit – and he apparently submits pages of notes and rewrite requests to the show’s writers and producers each week.

“Everyone is praying for him to book a new movie so that he will go away,” the source stated.

A rep for TNT had no comments on the matter, and Smith’s side said that it was untrue. (ANI)

Pattinson, Stewart fans create chaos on Twilight films’ sets: Billy Burke

London, March 29 (ANI): Actor Billy Burke has revealed that sets of the Twilight films always get chaotic, thanks to the fans of the film’s stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

“There”s loads of fans always trying to be on set – the hotel itself was a bit like a compound; it was surrounded 24-7 by fans and paparazzi,” the Mirror quoted him as saying.

“During the first movie, there were people coming around all the time but there was more of an ease first time around – with the second and third films, as you can imagine, security got a lot more tight,” he added.

Burke, who plays Kristen”s on-screen dad in the vampire films, doesn”t mind mixing with the fans.

“I”m fine signing autographs or taking pictures, I don”t have to deal with the fans the way Robert and Kristen have to,” he said.

Burke will reprise his role for the third installment ‘Eclipse’. (ANI)

Webber plays down retirement speculation

Red Bull’s Mark Webber has denied he has any desire to quit Formula One, after former world champion Lewis Hamilton suggested the Australian veteran might be interested in bowing out on a high at the end of the season.

McLaren driver Hamilton was quoted on Wednesday as saying: “I don’t know how long he plans to stay in Formula One, but I get the sense that it’s one of those years he wants to finish on top and perhaps call it a day.”

“He has the best chance to end on that high this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is considering it.”

The 33-year-old Webber, who is bidding to become Australia’s first winner of its home Grand Prix on Sunday, said he was “very motivated, enjoying my job and looking forward to a great season”.

“I have no intention at all of retiring, give or take whatever season I have,” Webber said.

“So it’s Lewis’s opinion and he’s free to have that, so I don’t have a big problem with what he said.

“I’m very happy at the moment, enjoying driving for the guys that I am driving for, so it’s a very, very good situation for me at the moment.”

After stints with Minardi, Jaguar and Williams, Webber joined Red Bull in 2007 and broke through for his most successful season last year, picking up two victories among his eight podium finishes to end the year fourth in the drivers’ standings.

Woods may dodge playing Ryder Cup to avoid hecklers

London, Mar 25 (ANI): To avoid booze-fuelled hecklers, Tiger Woods ex-coach has said that the World No.1 could dodge the Ryder Cup in Wales and play only in the four Majors this year.

Woods, 34, makes his comeback at The Masters at Augusta next month. But his ex-coach Butch Harmon said: “The Ryder Cup will be difficult.”

“I can’t imagine 50,000 people that have consumed alcohol all day will be congenial. It’s a different environment to the one he’ll face at Augusta,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“But whether he plays enough to make the Ryder Cup may be a better way to look at it.”

Harmon added: “I doubt he’ll miss a Major.” (ANI)
