10 surgeries might cost Heidi Montag her health: Docs

New York, April 21 (ANI): Doctors claim actress Heidi Montag may face many health problems because of her multiple plastic surgeries.

Montag, 23, who went under the knife ten times, has seriously risked her life, according to doctors.

The actress’ ten surgeries include breast implants, facial plastic surgery and liposuction in neck, all done in a day some five months ago.

That could potentially cause her health issues from back problems to stringy neck muscles, say medical experts.

“The extraordinarily large breast implants that she had put in are excessive for her size, and that will become an issue in the future,” says Dr. Brian S. Glatt, board-certified plastic surgeon and director of the Premier Plastic Surgery Center.

“She can predispose herself to spine problems down the road, just from the weight of the implants,” he added.

The risk of infections and other complications rises when surgery takes longer than six hours, says Dr. Angelo Cuzalina, president-elect of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

“You are more at risk for a blood clot, these usually occur within four weeks after surgery. The worry is that it could release and go to the lungs, and that is life-threatening,” The New York Daily News quoted Dr. Angelo as saying. (ANI)

Brit men having moob jobs on the rise

London, Sep 18 (ANI): It has emerged that more and more Brit men are having cosmetic surgery to get rid of their “moobs”.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), there has been a 44 per cent year-on-year rise in the number of men wanting to get rid of their ‘man boobs’.

The AGM of BAAPS in Cardiff heard that the procedure is now the fifth most popular cosmetic op for men, with more than 1,000 men forking out more than 2,000 pounds to get rid of their flabby breasts in the last 12 months.

Delegates were told over the past five years the numbers of men losing their moobs have shot up by an amazing 1,000 per cent.

“We are seeing men of all ages coming in to have their breasts made smaller,” the Sun quoted plastic surgeon Douglas McGeorge as saying.

“They are losing their inhibitions about the operation and deciding to undergo an operation which previously was a women’s operation,” he said.

McGeorge, who is based in Chester, revealed that a recent patient, who had never taken his shirt off, was typical of the men queuing up for the op.

“It was a grandfather who had never taken off his T-shirt in his life because he was so embarrassed about the size of his breasts,” he said.

“He had never been able to strip to the waist on the beach in front of his own children – but was determined not to be in the same position with his grandchildren,” he stated.

The moob jobs pushed out facelifts to become the fifth most popular plastic surgery for British men after nose jobs, eyelifts, ear corrections, and liposuction.

“Reasons for the upsurge include men being more open now about their physique than years ago,” plastic surgeon Fazel Fatah said.

“And they can get more and more information about it from internet sites which encourage them to have the op,” he added. (ANI)

MJ’s ex wife tipped cops about drug doc

London, August 27 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s former wife reportedly tipped cops about how doctor Arnold Klein helped supply the star with powerful drugs.

Debbie Rowe, who used to work as an assistant at Klein’s Beverly Hills clinic, was said to have secretly informed authorities how the singer used aliases to get the drugs from the plastic surgeon, who treated Jackson for 20 years.

Court papers apparently state that detectives got a tip-off from “an unknown female caller”, who revealed Jackson used names such as Omar Arnold, Fernand Diaz and Peter Madonie when he saw the medic.

Klein was purportedly accused of helping Jackson stock sedatives including powerful anaesthetic propofol that is believed to have caused his death.

“Rowe holds Klein totally responsible for Jackson’s drug addiction,” the Sun quoted sources as saying.

“She believes there is no way he could have got hooked without the help of Klein – and she is potentially the only one who can prove it.

“She must have suspected what was going on for years.

“She could really put the boot into Klein and she has good reason to. It makes her skin crawl to think Klein is the biological father of her kids, like reports suggest,” the sources added. (ANI)

MJ’s doc spent 47 mins making calls after he stopped breathing

London, August 26 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s personal physician Conrad Murray has been accused of spending 47 minutes making calls to another doctor, a lawyer and a mystery associate after the singer stopped breathing.

Dr Steven Hoefflin, who treated Jackson for 25 years, alleged Murray phoned fellow medic Arnold Klein for advice on what to do as the King of Pop lay dying.

“Murray definitely called Klein because Klein taught him how to administer propofol,” the Sun quoted Hoefflin as saying.

“There were two in-state calls then one out-of-state. He was calling an attorney – he had to because Michael was dead.

“He tried to cover it up by telling everyone Michael had a weak pulse, but Michael was dead,” he added.

Hoefflin, a respected plastic surgeon, also claimed that Murray rang an attorney before informing a security guard to dial 911 and summon paramedics to Jackson’s Los Angeles home.

But a lawyer representing Murray recently denied claims that the medic left Jackson to make phone calls after giving him powerful anaesthetic Propofol.

Lawyer Ed Chernoff issued a statement seeking to clarify parts of a court affidavit unsealed in Houston, Texas.

The contents came to light as reports claimed that the Los Angeles County coroner had concluded Jackson’s death was homicide and that he had lethal levels of Propofol in his body when he died on June 25. (ANI)

‘Killer surgical drug’ found at Jacko’s home

London, July 2 (ANI): A killer surgical drug was reportedly among the cocktail of prescription drugs found at Michael Jackson’s LA home after he passed away on June 25.

Propofol, dubbed “the milk of amnesia”, which is used to anaesthetise patients before surgeries, was said to have emerged at the singer’s mansion.

Experts warned the white fluid, also called Diprivan, could bring on cardiac arrest, from which Jackson apparently died, if mixed with narcotic painkillers like Demerol, allegedly given to the star before his death.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Pearlman Hicks, who never treated the King of Pop, warned about the disastrous consequences of the drug, believed to have been given to Jackson as a sleeping aid.

“Diprivan is an anaesthetic drug. It is used in operating theatres. It should definitely not have been in Michael Jackson’s home…It is such a dangerous drug it could kill you in a minute. It needs to be administered by a trained professional in a controlled environment and should only be used when surgery is taking place. To hear that it was in Michael’s house is a very frightening thing,” British tabloid The Sun quoted him as saying.
Jackson’s nurse Cherilyn Lee also revealed that she had teamed up with the icon three months ago to help him with his insomnia and restore his energy values for his comeback concerts in London.
The nutritionist revealed that she was mortified on being told that doctors had previously given Propofol to Jackson.

She said: “I told him it wasn’t safe. I said this medication will cause a lot of problems. I said, ‘You’re so concerned with wanting to sleep and sleep well – but my concern is, if you have something like this, will you wake up’?” (ANI)

First US near-total face transplant recipient unveils results of her surgery

London, May 6 (ANI): Forty-six-year-old Connie Culp, a shotgun attack victim who was the first person in the U.S. to receive a near-total face transplant, has unveiled the results of her surgery.

The woman was left without a nose, a palate or lower eyelids after being attacked by her husband in 2004.

Her operation at the Cleveland Clinic in the state of Ohio lasted 22 hours.

A team of 11 surgeons, who operated on her, transplanted about 80 per cent of her face using facial tissue from a dead woman that was placed like a mask atop her own.

They said that Culp, who was missing bone support and had been unable to eat or breathe without a tube in her windpipe, could now perform functions normally.

“We think this … procedure has changed her life dramatically,” Sky News quoted Maria Siemionow, the clinic’s director of plastic surgery research, as telling reporters.

Even though it was reported in December that America’s first face transplant had been conducted, Culp’s identity and the incident that had disfigured were kept secret.

“Well, I guess I’m the one you came to see today,” she said after being helped up to a podium at a press conference.

She, however, added: “I think it’s more important that you focus on the donor family that made it so I could have this person’s face.”

Culp recalled that when plastic surgeon Risal Djohan first looked at Ms Culp’s injuries, “he told me he didn’t think, he wasn’t sure, if he could fix me, but he’d try.”

“Here I am, five years later. He did what he said – I got me my nose,” she said with a laugh.

Siemionow said that the transplant “was the most complex functional restoration in the world today”. (ANI)

Now, a ‘sweat-busting’ surgery that keeps ‘sticky’ moments at bay

Sydney, Apr 12 (ANI): Are sweaty underarms making you stay away from parties or meetings? Well, take heart, for help is at hand. Surgeons have developed an 8,000-pound, hour-long procedure that burns away the sweat glands beneath the skin.

The procedure called Laser Sweat Ablation (LSA) uses a laser to conduct the process.

Argentinian plastic surgeon Guillermo Blugerman claims to have pioneered the procedure and successfully treated 400 people in South America.

“We developed the method for people who suffer from excessive perspiration. For those affected, it ruins their lives. But this procedure changes all that,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted the expert, as saying.

Before LSA, people used Botox injections as a temporary measure to keep sweating at bay.

In LSA, the armpit is first coated with iodine and a starch is applied to locate the glands. The patient is given a local anaesthetic before a three-millimetre incision is made. A surgical laser then burns away the gland.

The procedure allows patients to resume normal activities the same day.

Blugerman says patients experienced “minor problems” in a handful of cases.

“There is potential for liquid to accumulate in the area treated but this is not a major complication and can be solved quickly. You have to remember this is a very superficial procedure. The sweat gland sits just below the skin. We remove this tissue. The result is we are able to reduce perspiration in this area for 80 per cent [of patients],” the expert added. (ANI)

Villagers in UP pray for success of ‘Smile Pinky’ at Oscars

Dabai (UP), Feb 22 (ANI): Residents of Dabai village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ahura District have been praying for the success of the documentary ‘Smile Pinky’ at the Oscars, since it is based on the life of a girl with a lip deformity in their village.

“Pinky has gone to America. The documentary has got a nomination for the Oscars. We are praying to God that this film wins an award and brings glory to our country and our village,” said Pradeep Kumar, a villager.

‘Smile Pinky’ is the story of a child with a lip deformity. It is one of the four films nominated for best short documentary at the famed Academy Awards to be declared at Los Angels.

Megan Mylan’s film depicts the saga of six-year-old Pinky who becomes a social outcast because of a cleft lip.

In the 39-minute documentary, the girl from this obscure village of Uttar Pradesh, undergoes corrective surgery and gets a normal childhood.

“Earlier, she had a lip deformity and all her schoolmates used to tease her. After she got operated and got rid of her lip deformity, she started going to school again. Now, none teases her any more,” said Nirmala Devi, Pinky’s mother.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh, who treated Pinky at no cost, said that the film’s Academy Award nomination would help create awareness about the condition of children in rural areas. (ANI)

Tom Cruise speaks in Spanish to Portuguese people!

New York, Feb 6 (ANI): American actor Tom Cruise got his geography mixed up when he greeted reporters in Portuguese speaking Rio de Janeiro, by speaking to them in Spanish.

Cruise was in the Brazilian city to promote his movie ‘Valkyrie’, and he tried to get friendly with the reporters by saying hola (hello) and gracias (thanks) to them, reports the New York Post.

According to Glamurama.com, the actor further showed his ignorance when he said he fell in love with Brazil after watching movies about samba and tango, unaware that tango is an Argentine dance.

He and his wife Katie and baby Suri have been staying at the Copacabana Palace, and he took a side trip to the private island of plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, who has his own landing strip and a menagerie of exotic animals. (ANI)
