Prestigiacomo on track to play

Collingwood is confident defender Simon Prestigiacomo will overcome injury to help negate St Kilda danger man Nick Riewoldt in their AFL clash at Docklands on Friday night.

Prestigiacomo missed the Magpies’ narrow win over Melbourne last weekend with a quadriceps injury, but trained with his team-mates on Thursday.

Magpies midfielder Scott Pendlebury said the veteran defender looked set to play – a huge boost as the team prepare to confront the in-form Riewoldt who has been outstanding in the Saints’ two wins this season.

“He moved well and should be right,” Pendlebury said of Prestigiacomo.

“Most sides struggle with Nick but we’re going to back our defence, and hopefully we can shut down the ball use that comes in from their midfield and restrict them that way.”

Pies stars Josh Fraser and Heath Shaw did not train with the rest of the team on Thursday.

But Pendlebury said the pair were doing individual training programs and were in no doubt to play in the clash of the two unbeaten sides.

Pendlebury says the Magpies have the talent to match the disciplined Saints.

“We know from the footage that we’ve gone through the times they’ve broken us down we’ve got away from what we know best,” he said.

“We know we can match it with any side in the competition if we play our best and we’re looking forward to the challenge tomorrow night.

“They are a great side and it’s a great challenge for our boys.”

Rafal Harajda, who has served plenty of high profilers during his 12 years of service, described the children as “great … super polite and super well-behaved” and admitted being stunned by the US First Lady.

“I was very surprised because … she was down to earth. I was nervous at first, but she makes you comfortable right away,” the New York Daily News quoted Harajda as saying.

Manager Joe Silvestri also confessed: “Mrs. Obama looked awesome, great, even better in person than on TV.

“It was the First Lady of the United States of America here. How wonderful is that? We were blessed and so is she.” (ANI)

Shakira back in Colombia to help disadvantaged children get education

London, March 7 (ANI): Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira has been working hard to make the much-needed arrangement of education for disadvantaged children in her country.

Her entourage recently travelled to a school her charity Fondacion Pies Descalzos in the remote and poor north-west border province of Choco, deep in the Colombian jungle.

“One-hundred per cent of our kids that we have in our school here have been displaced or have families that have fled their home towns,” the BBC quoted one of the member of the travelling team as telling its reporter Rajesh Mirchandani.

The online report reveals that Shakira has visited the school several times, and each time she is surrounded by exuberant children as she makes her way down dirty, pot-holed streets, past wooden shacks and open sewers.

Shakira is welcomed not only because she is a famous pop star, but also because she provides a lifeline in the area of grinding poverty.

Her foundation provides uniforms, equipment and food for 750 pupils at the school.

When asked why the government did not provide such things, a teacher said: “You’ll have to ask the president that. He should pay more attention to the plight of the people of Choco. We’ve been abandoned.” (ANI)
