Web sitcom The Guild’s video tops UK iTunes chart

London, Aug 22 (ANI): A music video by makers of the cult internet soap The Guild has ripped apart the likes of Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas to capture the number one slot in the UK iTunes chart.

(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar was written to popularise the third series of the show, a tale of people playing an online role-playing game.

The lyrics have lines like: “You’ll never see my actual face. Our love will be in virtual space.”

Almost half a million people have accessed the video since its upload on Monday. The song itself occupies the second position in the Amazon US download chart.

Felicia Day, actress and writer of The Guild, was “a little bit surprised” by the phenomenal success of the track, and said the response by the audience had been “very cool”.

The BBC quoted Day as saying: “We beat the establishment and it fills me with glee.

“One of the things that drives me is to do things differently…. Most people would be working with a label and going through a lot of hoops.

“I think our success empowers everybody who feels like they can’t get their art out there.”

Day who plays Codex in the award-winning sitcom came up with the song when she was writing scripts for the new series, which is financed and distributed by Microsoft via Xbox Marketplace.

“We do 12 episodes per series, and we always owe an extra video for our Xbox order, and I thought ‘wouldn’t it be fun to do something musical? I was listening to really bad 1990s dance songs – C+C Music Factory, Stacey Q – and that was my inspiration,” she said.

TV scriptwriter Jed Whedon composed the music for the number.

The track also features an “intricate and clearly masterful” rap by The Guild co-stars Jeff Lewis and Sandeep Parikh. (ANI)

Philippa Gregory | The White Queen Philippa Gregory | The White Queen | Elizabeth Woodville | Book Characters | Boleyn Girl | Mary Boleyn

Philippa Gregory  | The White Queen Philippa Gregory | The White Queen | Elizabeth Woodville | Book Characters | Boleyn Girl | Mary Boleyn

The Other Boleyn Girl is a historical fiction novel written by British author Philippa Gregory, based on the life of 16th-century aristocrat Mary Boleyn. Reviews were mixed, some said it was a brilliantly claustrophobic look at palace life in Tudor England, while others weren’t convinced. Even so, it has enjoyed phenomenal success and popularity since its publication in 2002 and has spawned five sequels – The Queen’s Fool, The Virgin’s Lover, The Constant Princess, The Boleyn Inheritance, and The Other Queen.

The Other Boleyn Girl portrays the Boleyn-Howard family in a way that has not often been seen in fiction. Inspired by the life of Mary Boleyn, Gregory depicts the divorce of one of the most significant royal marriages in English history (that of King Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon) and the great need of a male heir to the throne, though most of the accual history is distorted.

Gregory has a high rate of success with using relatively unknown characters in her historical novels – often, they are not typical historical heroines. In The Queen’s Fool, she used the character of Mary I in a sympathetic light, whilst she is usually demonized by admirers of Elizabeth I.

Phillipa Gregory has claimed that everything about her book is accurate except for the thoughts and feelings of the individual characters. However, there are some areas of disputed historical accuracy.

Susan Boyle credits late mum for Britain’s Got Talent success

London, May 30 (ANI): Susan Boyle has her late mother to thank for her phenomenal success on Britain’s Got Talent.

The singing sensation, 48, said her mum, who passed away two years ago aged 91, has been her muse and strength for getting her as far as in the finals.

“I believe in heaven and that my mother is watching,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying in an interview with the Daily Mail.

The Scottish church singer further said that she had been practicing her chords ever since childhood.

She said: “My mother used to sing around the house a lot, especially when she was working. So it’s a habit I sort of picked up from her.

“I was a kind of slow learner, so singing was a good way of hiding behind that, and boosting my confidence.”

Susan came one step closer to winning the title after reaching the finals with her stunning version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats song Memory.

A staggering 13.6million viewers had tuned into ITV1 to watch the songbird perform in the recent semi-finals while more than a million visited YouTube to see her latest performance.

The star since her jaw dropping audition has won fans all over the globe, including US President Barack Obama and Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. (ANI)
