Rolling Stones documentary is like a ”family scrapbook”: Sir Mick Jagger

London, May 20 (ANI): Sir Mick Jagger has described Rolling Stones documentary as like opening a ‘family scrapbook’.

””It”s like when you look through your family scrapbook in a way, you get your book out or get your computer out and you look at these old pictures,”” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

The 66-year-old continued: ””You get these nice feelings, but then this isn”t actually a family album because you”re making a film or re-releasing a record, so you become another personality and think ”that was a good one, that was rubbish”.

””You have to be professional,”” he added. (ANI)

Miranda Kerr feels sorry for Aussie banker caught ogling at her naked pics

Melbourne, May 19 (ANI): The last time Victoria’s Secret angel Miranda Kerr shot for a racy GQ photoshoot, a misfortunate Australian banker almost lost his job. Now, the model has posed for yet another racy shoot for GQ magazine’s June issue.

The Macquarie Banker, David Kiely, was caught on live TV looking at naked pics of Miranda Kerr. Images of Kiely gazing at Miranda were broadcast around the world after he was inadvertently filmed during an interview on Channel 7 news at Macquarie Bank in Sydney.

“It was a big deal,” The Herald Sun quoted Miranda as telling GQ. “I wasn’t offended. I just felt sorry for the poor guy.

“I wonder if he’ll get into trouble if we send him this cover.”

And she said that this time she hoped Kiely would not be caught out.

“We should send him a signed cover!” she said.

“He can read the magazine at home instead of at work on the Internet.”

Miranda told the Herald Sun”s Confidential: “I am told there is a petition to save his job and of course I would sign it.”

Commenting on the ideal man she would want, Miranda said, “Personally, I believe that women need to be stimulated mentally by the man.

“t”s not necessarily about his looks.

“It’s more about being stimulated mentally, like when a man is funny or he is witty or charming, I think that’s attractive. It’s all about personality, really,” she added. (ANI)

Cool Bresnan is England’s most improved player of the year

London, May 12 (ANI): Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan is cool as a cucumber, and it has shown in his latest performance.

So much so, that he is being projected as England’s most improved player of the year. Not bad for a lad who not too long ago was seen as a daft personality from Pontefract.

According to Bresnan, there is a novel way to dealing with pressure – not accepting that it exists at all.

As he contemplates a global semi-final here versus Pakistan in St Lucia tomorrow, he said: “Craig White, my old captain at Yorkshire, summed it up. We were going out to bowl at the start of the season and I said, ””Chalks, the ball””s not coming out that well””.

“He replied, ””Mate, who cares? You can only bowl as well as you can, you might be in a box tomorrow””.

“That””s what he said – and it takes the pressure off.

“My mentality is that I could be doing something totally different that I wouldn””t enjoy as much as playing cricket. I am playing cricket, staying in St Lucia, in a magnificent hotel. Life is not exactly a hardship,” The Sun quoted Bresnan, as saying.

Bresnan, 25, is already pencilled in for next winter””s Ashes as an all-rounder.

“I think I””ve always been good enough to perform at international level. One of these days you will see how good I am. You are seeing little glimpses now but I still have a lot more.”

“If we keep playing the same brand of cricket, we should win this tournament,” he concludes. (ANI)

Raveena Tandon makes comeback with a woman-oriented film

Mumbai, May 11 (ANI): Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is all set to make her comeback in Bollywood with a woman-oriented film titled ”Agni – The Fire”.

Directed by Rajeev Walia, the movie also stars newcomers Jeetendar Modi, Archana Gupta and Eva Grover.

Producer V. Kumar appeared pleased with Tandon”s return, as he said the actress has returned with a more appealing personality, which can do justice to her character.

“The movie that we were making, we felt that compared to Raveena in her earlier films, now she has come back with a better personality. So we thought of casting her as she can do justice to the character she is playing in the film,” said V. Kumar.
The official launch of the film, which is set in the backdrop of rural Rajasthan, took place in Mumbai on Monday.

The National Award-winning actress is back to pursuing her acting career after her marriage with film distributor, Anil Thadani, in 2004.

“The story of the film is set in rural Rajasthan. So I have been given the get-up according to that. Although the film is not like ”Godmother”, it is the story of a woman who raises her voice against orthodox traditions,” said Tandon.

In 2002, Tandon won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance in ”Daman” as a victim of marital violence in 2001. (ANI)

Docile dogs live longer

London, Apr 28 (ANI): Disobedient dog breeds tend to die earlier than docile dogs, according to a study.

The research, which compared the longevity of different breeds, has been published in The American Naturalist, reports New Scientist.

To reach the conclusion, Vincent Careau at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada, compared data from previous studies of personality in a number of dog breeds, and mortality data on the same varieties.

After controlling for size – big dogs tend to die younger than small ones – Careau”s team found the most obedient breeds, such as German shepherds, poodles and bichon frises, tended to be the longest lived, while hard-to-train dogs such as pomeranians and beagles were more likely to die younger.

Another trait, aggressiveness, was linked to metabolic rate, with docile dogs such as collies burning calories more slowly than territorial great danes, for instance. (ANI)

‘Osama a lost man, a fanatical father, chasing his fantasy of becoming latter-day prophet’

London, Mar.31 (ANI): The world’s most wanted man and Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s favourite son, Omar, has described his father as a ‘lost’ man and a ‘fanatical father’.

Omar, the fourth among Osama’s 11 sons, was the Al-Qaeda chieftain’s favourite as he had been chosen his father’s successor, and meant to lead the terror outfit and carry on ‘jihad’ across the world.

In his book ‘In Growing Up bin Laden’, which Omar co-authored with his mother, Najwa, and an American writer named Jean Sasson, Omar describes in detail about the days he spent with Osama before shunning his violent path.

Omar described his father as a man who would fight until death for what he had dreamt of.

“My father is a strong personality. Nobody can stop him from getting his dream. Either he gets what he wants, or he dies.Thank God my father doesn’t run the world,” The Telegraph quoted Omar, as saying.

“He is neither a jihadist nor a mass murderer – he is a lost man, a fanatical father who withheld his love, beat and betrayed his children, and destroyed his family chasing his fantasy of becoming a latter-day prophet,” he said.

Despite a disliking for his father’s ideology, Omar said he would continue to love Osama and does not want him to be caught alive.

“I love him because he is my father. I don’t want him to be caught and put on trial. It would break my heart. I wish he could die before someone gets him. I don’t want to see my father under the rule of somebody else,” he said.

“My father is my father, to this day, and until I die. I came from his body. I am part of him,” Omar added.

When asked how he feels when he sees his father on the television or hears about him releasing a new audio tape, Omar said : “ I get worried. For me, for my father, for the world.”

Omar, who is finding it hard to find a house for himself and his mother, Najwa, Osama’s first wife, also rued the fact that Osama’s name would remain with him till the very last.

“It is impossible for me to live a normal life. I tried hard for years. In Islam, what is happening to me is not allowed – the sins of the father going to the son. I am like Tom Cruise in the movie The Last Samurai. He turned around to fight his own people. This is like me,” Omar said. (ANI)

Sandra Bullock the right choice to play Wonder Woman: Lynda Carter

London, March 26 (ANI): Actress Lynda Carter, who played the lead in Wonder Woman in the late 1970s, believes Sandra Bullock is “exactly” the right choice to step into her shoes for the upcoming film version of the popular TV series.

Lynda, 58, is earlier said to have dismissed Bullock, 45, as being “too old” for the role.

“There was an idea that Sandra Bullock should play Wonder Woman and I think it’s a great idea,” the Daily Express quoted Lynda, as saying on US entertainment programme Good Morning LA.

She added: “She’s exactly the kind of a personality and somehow it got messed around that I had said she was too old. That’s nonsense, it wasn’t true. She’s strong and feminine.

“And Wonder Woman has to be accessible.” (ANI)

Ancelotti vows to change Chelsea’s history of sacking managers

London, Mar 24 (ANI): Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has vowed to change the club’s history of sacking managers.

The Blues manger heads to Portsmouth tonight for a must-win match if he wants to keep Chelsea’s title hopes alive.

Owner Roman Abramovich has fired three bosses in as many years after seasons without Premier League or Champions League glory.

Ancelotti saw his side exit Europe last week and then draw 1-1 at Blackburn on Sunday to leave the side third in the Premier League, The Sun reports.

“This club is one of the most important clubs in the world so it’s normal that when you start the season the aim is to win. If we don’t win, then something”s not good. And so it’s normal that something is changed.

“But for me to win or to lose… that doesn’t mean anything with the contract. My future is definitely at Chelsea next season,” Ancelotti said.

When it was pointed out to him that history suggested the opposite, he said: “I am here to change the history of this club and I am an optimistic man. I have a very good relationship with the club and with Roman. My position is not in discussion.”

To guarantee what would be a remarkable Double in his debut season, Ancelotti must revive his players and guide them to 10 victories from now on.

And despite winning just five of their last 11 matches in all competitions, the former AC Milan manager is confident the Blues can do it.

Ancelotti, who has more than two years left on his contract, said: “We have to win 10 games. They have courage. They have personality. We have to have energy, strength, confidence to win every game.” (ANI)

Donald Trump tags Jesse James as “cunning”

New York, March 20 (ANI): Donald Trump has branded Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James “cunning” after he cheated on the actress.

James had starred in the last season of Trump’s show ‘Celebrity Apprentice.’

“He was a quiet guy, but as the show progressed, you realized that he was very smart and very cunning. He didn”t get along with the people on the show, but I sort of got to like him, at least as much as such a sullen personality can be liked . . .” the New York Post quoted Trump as saying.

He added: “Don”t underestimate Jesse, he is very deceptive, and what you see is not really what you get. He happens to be a very smart guy. As for Sandra, who I also know very well, she is a total sweetheart.”

Even during the show, Trump had asked James: “What the hell does Sandra Bullock see in you? How did you ever get Sandra? You must have something going, but I sure can”t figure it out. Maybe you”re just good in bed.”

Clarke reduces relationship with Bingle to cold, hard stats

Wellington, Mar.19 (ANI): Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke has reduced the break-up of his relationship with Lara Bingle to cold, hard business.

Former captain Ian Chappell had questioned whether Clarke’s return to Australia a fortnight ago had showed the “durability and stability” necessary to be Australian captain.

But in returning to Wellington, Clarke has shown a different side of his personality – the ability to make a decision that counts.

“It was about making a decision at the time and, obviously, I thought I had to go home and do what I had to do, and I did that,” Clarke said.

When asked about the scrutiny that has accompanied his break-up, he said: “We have to accept that and, for me, it was important to do what I had to do in my personal life.”

“And, it”s important to me, like I say now, to be back with my team mates and making sure I”m concentrating on playing a Test match for Australia,” he said without sentiment.

He was faultless yesterday in front of the media, which had been warned not to ask questions about his personal life but launched straight into them.

Clarke was chirpy and forthright, like a burden was now gone.

He has come out a winner and has now returned to the routines of touring life, where he is most comfortable.

“Like I say,” he said, “preparation has been important to me throughout my career and it”s no different now.” (ANI)

World’s shortest man dead at 21

The world’s shortest man, 21-year-old He Pingping, who stood just over 75 centimetres, has died, Britain’s Guinness World Records says.

Mr He, a native of China who had a form of primordial dwarfism, was in Rome taking part in a television show when he suffered chest problems.

He was taken to hospital where he died at the weekend.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of London-based Guinness World Records, recalled measuring Mr He in the northern Chinese region of Inner Mongolia in 2008.

“For such a small man, he made a huge impact around the world,” Mr Glenday said.

“From the moment I laid on eyes on him, I knew he was someone special. He had such a cheeky smile and mischievous personality, you couldn’t help but be charmed by him.

“He brightened up the lives of everyone he met, and was an inspiration to anyone considered different or unusual.”

Guinness World Records said it would announce Mr He’s successor as the world’s shortest man in due course.

Khagendra Thapa Magar, 18, from Nepal, who is reportedly 51 centimetres high, declared in February that he is the rightful holder of the title.

Court jails drug trafficker

The Victorian County Court has sentenced a 46-year-old St Arnaud man to a jail term for drugs trafficking.

Andrew Harold Milton pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking, possessing and using cannabis, as well as dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Police say on January 5 last year they searched a bush block near St Arnaud and found almost eight kilograms of cannabis and sets of electronic scales.

They say when searching his parent’s St Arnaud home, where Milton lives, they found $82,000 in cash.

A psychological report found Milton has an “inadequate personality”.

It said Milton was not a career criminal but a “clueless criminal”.

Judge Murphy sentenced Milton to a total of three years in prison, to serve a minimum of 18 months.

Archaeologists discover gemstone carrying portrait of Alexander the Great

Washington, September 16 (ANI): An archaeological team, during excavations in Israel, has discovered a gemstone that has a portrait of Alexander the Great engraved on it.

The excavations at Tel Dor were carried out by an archaeological team, which was directed by Dr. Ayelet Gilboa of the University of Haifa and Dr. Ilan Sharon of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

“Despite its miniature dimensions – the stone is less than a centimeter high and its width is less than half a centimeter – the engraver was able to depict the bust of Alexander on the gem without omitting any of the ruler’s characteristics,” said Dr. Gilboa, Chair of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Haifa.

“The emperor is portrayed as young and forceful, with a strong chin, straight nose and long curly hair held in place by a diadem,” he added.

The Tel Dor researchers have noted that it is surprising that a work of art such as this would be found in Israel, on the periphery of the Hellenistic world.

“It is generally assumed that the master artists – such as the one who engraved the image of Alexander on this particular gemstone – were mainly employed by the leading Hellenistic courts in the capital cities, such as those in Alexandria in Egypt and Seleucia in Syria,” according to the researchers.

“This new discovery is evidence that local elites in secondary centers, such as Tel Dor, appreciated superior objects of art and could afford ownership of such items,” they added.

The significance of the discovery at Dor is in the gemstone being uncovered in an orderly excavation, in a proper context of the Hellenistic period.

This tiny gem was unearthed by a volunteer during excavation of a public structure from the Hellenistic period in the south of Tel Dor, excavated by a team from the University of Washington at Seattle headed by Prof. Sarah Stroup.

Dr. Jessica Nitschke, professor of classical archaeology at Georgetown University in Washington DC, identified the engraved motif as a bust of Alexander the Great.

This has been confirmed by Prof. Andrew Stewart of the University of California at Berkeley, an expert on images of Alexander and author of a book on this topic.

Alexander was probably the first Greek to commission artists to depict his image – as part of a personality cult that was transformed into a propaganda tool. (ANI)

Study on sheep shows link between personality, survival, and reproductive success

Washington, September 16 (ANI): Canadian researchers have established a link between personality, survival, and reproductive success by carrying out a study on male bighorn sheep.

Denis Reale, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at UQAM and Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Ecology, says that the new study offers insight into personality differences in animals and humans, from an evolutionary perspective.

Since 1969, several teams of researchers have been studying this population of bighorn sheep in Alberta, Canada. They have collected considerable data over the years.

Working in collaboration with researchers from the University of Sherbrooke and the University of Alberta, Reale identified the rams in terms of boldness and docility.

The researchers then conducted paternity tests to determine which rams were reproducing.

They point out that in a system like that of bighorn sheep where there is strong competition among the males for impregnating females, large size and high dominance status are normally key factors in a male’s success.

Males usually attain these conditions in the prime of life, between 6 and 12 years, the researchers say.

However, the paternity tests showed that some young males manage to fertilize females.

The researchers also concentrated on the risk associated with participation in the rut-males can be injured or fall from a cliff in fighting.

Reale and his colleagues hypothesized that the young males that manage to reproduce would be the boldest and most combative, and analysis of the data confirmed it.

However, in exchange for sexual precocity and risk-taking, these rams often die younger than their more docile peers. The latter, instead, invest in the long term, breed later and reach an older age.

Based on their observations, the researchers came to the conclusion that their findings indicate a variation in the personalities and life histories of the population, with two extreme types: one that could be characterised as “live fast and die” and the other as “slow and steady wins the race”.

Depending on their personality, the males managed to breed and to transmit their genes, but in different ways.

The study demonstrates that personality has a direct influence on the lifestyle of individuals.

A research article describing the study has been published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology. (ANI)

Dame Judi Dench hates complaints about her on-screen swearing

London, September 12 (ANI): Dame Judi Dench has confessed that she hates it when people complain about her swearing in movies.

The veteran actress, who stars as Mona Carvell in new film ‘Rage’, is designated as a British national treasure.

The 74-year-old revealed that she was disturbed earlier when the British Board of Film Classification published its annual report, saying her resorting to abuses onscreen prompts complaints from the public.

“That upset me terribly, because I thought, in a way, that cancelled out the last 52 years,” the Guardian quoted her as saying.

“I thought ‘Does nobody ever believe anything I do? Can’t they for a minute think that I am playing another person, in another world, with another personality?

“Must they write and complain that it came out of my mouth?’ I was very depressed about it,” she added. (ANI)

Soon, MJ’s ‘Thriller’ doll

London, Sept 8 (ANI): Michael Jackson has come alive in a new avatar – a lifelike doll.

The doll is inspired by the King of Pop’s 1983 Thriller music video, which showed him turning into a zombie.

The Hong Kong-based Hot Toys is the creator of the doll, which emphasizes most aspects of the late pop legend’s personality, even his trademark white socks, reports the Daily Star.uyers also have the option to exchange the doll’s head and clothes for the sinister, hollowed-eyed undead look.

The toy has 32 movable points, which enable it to reproduce MJ’s dance steps.

The doll will be available to MJ’s fans in Hong Kong and Japan only, where it will be released later this year. (ANI)
