Lennon’s tape reveals Macca was most important person to him

New York, September 7 (ANI): A new tape of late singer John Lennon’s interviews has him saying that fellow Beatles member Paul McCartney was the most important person to him apart from his wife.

“I only ever asked two people to work with me as a partner,” the New York Post quoted the Times of London as reporting as to what Lennon said in the tape.

“One was Paul McCartney and the other Yoko Ono. Paul and me were the Beatles,” Lennon claims in the tape.

However, according to the newspaper, their friendship didn’t last long and, when the band broke up, he told Paul: “I want a divorce.”

Rock journalist Ray Connelly recorded the tapes, in which Lennon even mentions early death.

He said: “[wasting] my life as I have been. I have to learn to do that because I don’t want to die at 40.”

He was shot to death at that age in 1980. (ANI)

Muthoot’s family alleges conspiracy behind murder

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 29 (ANI): A week after Kerala business tycoon Paul Muthoot was found murdered, his family has refuted Kerala Police’s road rage claim saying that there’s something more creepy behind his death.

Jnanamma Thomas, Muthoot’s grandmother refuted Kerala police’s road rage angle, alleging a cover-up of a brutal murder of her grandson .

“They did not tell us there was an accident angle to it in the beginning. But only they told there was an accident,” she said.

George P Easo, a family member said, “Politicians are changing their statements every other day. We don’t know whom to believe.”

Earlier, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has dismissed opposition Congress charge that his son had links in connection with the recent murder of Muthoot group scion Paul M George.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Balakrishnan said, “My son (Beenish Kodiyeri) has no relation with the case whatsoever. The allegation that Beenish had connections with wanted gangsters was to create a ‘mystery’ over the case.”

Rejecting the charge that the Home Department was trying to interfere in the investigation process, he said a deliberate attempt was being made by vested interests to hamper the probe.

The government had nothing to hide in the case and was open to “any sort of investigation”, he added.

Balakrishnan also announced that a special investigation team had been constituted under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Vinson M. Paul to probe the murder of the Paul Muthoot George.

He said that the team was constituted as the inter-district ramifications of the case and deeper links would have to be probed in detail. The investigation would cover links of Muthoot George with goonda elements.

According to the police theory, a gang of nearly 22 men was behind the murder of Paul.

Paul was killed last Friday night on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road. A friend who was with him was injured and is in hospital; both were stabbed.

Paul, who was based in Delhi, had recently returned to Kerala to take charge of the leisure and hospitality arm. He was returning from an under-construction resort at Mararikulam when he was stabbed to death.

On Sunday, police arrested 12 persons, including notorious criminals, identified as Om Prakash and Rajesh. (ANI)

Ultimately, she will come back to Melbourne for her final show on November 27.

Paul added: “It is by far the biggest pop spectacle to be seen here in years,” (ANI)

Kerala businessman’s murder mystery solved, claims police

New Delhi, Aug. 24 (ANI): The murder case of Kerala businessman Paul Muthoot George has been solved, Kerala Police claimed on Monday.

According to the police theory, a gang of nearly 22 men was behind the murder of Paul, 30, who was heading the Muthoot M George Group’s hospitality business.

The hired man who stabbed Paul has not been arrested so far, police said

Paul was killed last Friday night on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road. A friend who was with him was injured and is in hospital; both were stabbed.

On Sunday, police arrested 12 persons, including notorious criminals, identified as Om Prakash and Rajesh.

A team led by the IGP, Ernakulam Range, Vinson Paul, is interrogating the suspects.

The Muthoot Group is a major player in the financial services business in Kerala and has been slowly expanding its reach to other parts of the country. Paul is the chairman’s second son.

Earlier, media reports had suggested business rivalry could be a reason. Involvement of persons related to the narcotics trade was also not being ruled out.

The dead man and his friend were found by the roadside on Friday night. The vehicle they were travelling in was missing. The vehicle, a Ford Endeavour, was found abandoned this morning at Kollam, 40 km away.

Paul, who was based in Delhi, had recently returned to Kerala to take charge of the leisure and hospitality arm.

He was returning from an under-construction resort at Mararikulam when he was stabbed to death.

Paul was Chairman M G George Muthoot’s second son, while his two brothers, George Muthoot George and Alexander George Muthoot, are also associated with the group as executive director and as a director, respectively.

In addition, four of Paul’s cousins are part of the fourth generation of Muthoot directors, who had been inducted into the group. (ANI)

Heather Mills ‘has a new man in her life’

Washington, Aug 22 (ANI): It seems Heather Mills has finally moved on after her split with Paul McCartney, as she was recently spotted with a guy who is a rookie driver in the ARCA stock car series.

The former model came to Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Blue Star Jets Field in New York’s Hamptons, where she evidently loved talking to Tim George, Jr.

“Now that Paul has moved on with his girlfriend, Nancy Shevell, Heather thinks it’s about time she moves on, too,” a source told FOX411.

The insider added: “She was so into Tim, chatting with him, smiling ear to ear and hanging on his every word. They posed for photos together and kind of watched the match, but they were busy talking up a storm.”

The two reportedly met once again the same night at Social Life Magazine party for the mag’s August issue, which features Tim on the cover.

The source briefed: “Heather was definitely into Tim, and it seemed he was into her, too, from how easily their conversation seemed to flow. They were inseparable!” (ANI)

Like humans, birds too avoid inbreeding

Washington, June 30 (ANI): Scientists have found that a strictly monogamous species of bird has the ability to choose partners with a different genetic profile.

The researchers, led by Richard Wagner from the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Ethology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, said avoidance of inbreeding is evident among humans, and has been demonstrated in some shorebirds, mice and sand lizards. Now the black-legged kittiwake bird has been added to that list.

The scientists said they tracked 10 genetic markers to investigate whether kittiwakes avoid inbreeding by pairing with genetically distant mates, and whether inbreeding reduces the number of chicks they raised.

They found most pairs avoid inbreeding more often than expected by chance, suggesting kittiwakes can somehow tell who their relatives are in a large anonymous population.

The researchers said their study provides the first evidence of inbreeding avoidance in a strictly monogamous species, in which both parents contribute to rearing offspring.

Wagner conducted the study in collaboration with Etienne Danchin from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, as well as researchers from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Parks, the Alaska Science Center and the University of Bern.

The study appears in the journal BMC Evolutionary Biology. (ANI)

Paul Sculfor ‘dumps’ Cameron Diaz

London, May 17 (ANI): Cameron Diaz is mortified after her British boyfriend Paul Sculfor dumped her, it has emerged.

The Hollywood stunner has been dating Essex builder-cum-model Sculfor for almost a year.

And the apparent reason behind the break-up was her refusal to move from Hollywood to the UK, reports the News of the World.

A pal said: “Paul and Cam were really into each other and even marriage wasn’t out of the question. But Paul wasn’t getting much modelling work in the States.

“He realised he needed to come back to Britain to pick up top-paying assignments. They couldn’t resolve this issue.”

In a doomed attempt to win 36-year-old Cameron, the ex-bricklayer took her to visit his parents in Hornchurch.

But she refused to budge from her fabulous LA mansion.

A source said: “Cameron thought she could have it all her own way, but as far as he was concerned she just wasn’t worth the aggro.” (ANI)

Premier League players should be allowed to drink alcohol: Gazza

London, May 14 (ANI): Ex-England football star Paul Gascoigne reckons Premier League players should be allowed alcohol, because it is good for them.

The ex-Newcastle and Spurs legend says footballers are under “too much pressure” and their lives should be about more than “just football”.

Gazza, 41, spoke out after helping judge the Miss Great Britain Final 2009 at the Café De Paris, London.

His advice came days after Tottenham and England ace Ledley King was arrested following a night on the tiles.

King, 28, was nabbed outside the Punk nightclub in Soho, central London, at the weekend on suspicion of assaulting a bouncer.

His arrest prompted Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, 62, to call for an alcohol ban at his club.

But Gazza slammed the move, saying: “I haven’t got a problem with players going out and getting drunk.

The Daily Star quoted Gazza as saying: “What does a guy have to do – play football all his life and not have a life?”

But health expert Dr Julian Spinks was less than happy with Gazza.

He said: “It is very sad that Paul hasn’t reached the stage that he can understand the effects of alcohol on the body and the risk that it could be having on his fellow footballers.” (ANI)

Paul McCartney, Nancy Shevell engaged?

London, May 10 (ANI): Sir Paul McCartney has reportedly put an engagement ring on his girlfriend Nancy Shevell’s finger but is keeping the news under wraps fearing his former wife Heather Mills may ruin the happy moment.

According to a friend of the former Beatle, each time something related to the couple found its way into media, Heather, 41, attempted to twist the limelight in her direction.

Meanwhile, the 66-year-old singer has apparently told pals that his 47-year-old love reminded him of his first wife Linda, who passed away more than a decade ago.

“Paul just loves being in love. He feels that he functions better and feels more complete as a human being. It’s as though being in love is a natural state for him,” the Daily Express quoted a friend as saying.

The friend continued: “Nancy is said to be keen to embrace everything that Paul adores. She doesn’t need the glamour that Heather craved.

“She is the opposite of Heather, who tried to change so many aspects of his personality and lifestyle. Nancy has worked out very quickly that the key to maintaining a love affair with Paul is to Let It Be.

“Best of all for Paul, she’s no gold digger. She has money in her own right, so he feels very comfortable. The wedding will be sooner rather than later – at Paul’s age you don’t hang about. I can’t think of a soul who’d deny him happiness.”

But a spokesman for Sir Paul said: “There is no truth in it whatsoever. They have not become engaged in any shape or form. It is utter nonsense.” (ANI)

Is it splitsville for Cameron Diaz and Paul Sculfor?

New Delhi, May 06 (ANI): Cameron Diaz has reportedly dumped her boyfriend Paul Sculfor.

The ‘What Happens In Vegas’ star has been dating the British model since last summer (08) but the pair has now ended its romance, according to British magazine Grazia, with sources blaming the couple’s hectic schedules for the break-up, reports the China daily.

“They have fallen out of love. They didn’t seem to find time for each other anymore,” a source said.

“Paul is not too enamoured by Los Angeles and wants to be where his friends are. Cameron thought she could settle in England but missed her old life too much. The romance just died,” the source added.

And it looks like they are dealing well with the split.

The 36-year-old actress was recently seen in Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont hotel flirting with several men.

“She looked hot and every guy in the place noticed. She was laughing so loudly you could hear her in the lobby,” the source said.

“When a friend asked after Paul she just rolled her eyes and dismissed it with a wave of her hand. It was obvious from the way she referred to him that he’s no longer her boyfriend.”

Meanwhile, Paul, 38, was spotted at West Hollywood bar Swingers enjoying a night out with pals.

“He was checking out an attractive brunette and whispered to his friend, ‘She’s beautiful’ and they both just stared at her for ages. He wasn’t acting like a guy with a girlfriend,” one fellow reveller said. (ANI)

Paul Newman’s widow upset over his shameful biography

Washington, May 1 (ANI): Late Hollywood actor Paul Newman’s wife Joanne Woodward is fuming over the release of a book called Paul Newman: A life, because it portrays him as a boozy womanizer.

Joanne is devastated that the immoral book written by Shawn Levy will depict the legendary actor in the bad light.

The book talks about Newman’s romance with a journalist on the set of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid in Mexico and his alcoholic ways.

According to reports, the writer, Nancy Bacon, who wrote about Newman in her book Stars In My Eyes… Stars In My Bed, told Levy that she dumped the actor because he was “always drunk”.

“Joanne is devastated and furious. She cannot understand why this cruel book is being written about Paul,” Contactmusic quoted a source, as telling America’s the Globe.

Miss USA finalists ‘turned detectives to track down Macca!’

London, April 21 (ANI): Fifty Miss USA finalists were so keen to meet Sir Paul McCartney that they turned detectives to track down the ex-Beatle.

The throng of beauties – including Miss Michigan, Miss Nevada and Miss Connecticut – booked in for dinner at the 66-year-old rocker’s hotel in Las Vegas in the hope of meeting him.

“One girl heard Paul was in town and hunted him down. The girls were staying at Planet Hollywood, where the Miss USA contest was being staged, and discovered Paul’s hotel was across the road. No one could stop them from looking for him, they were screeching with excitement,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

The girls bombarded the former Beatle with love notes and flowers, sending them to his luxurious suite but Macca – who has been dating millionairess Nancy Shevell since November 2007 – didn’t show up.

“All 50 booked in for dinner there in hope of stumbling across him. Paul declined as he probably felt girlfriend Nancy Shevell wouldn’t be so enthralled. A couple of the girls even ran a competition to see who would be the first to get a picture or autograph and no one even managed that,” the source added.

Macca was in Las Vegas to play a concert at the Hard Rock Hotel. (ANI)

years ago.

A Superior Court jury on Monday returned the verdict after about 30 hours of deliberations. The jury had the option of choosing involuntary manslaughter, but did not do so.

The panel also found Spector guilty of using a firearm in committing a crime.

Spector exhibited no reaction to the verdict. His attorney argued that he should remain free on bail pending the May 29 sentencing, but Judge Larry Paul Fidler remanded him to jail immediately.

Second-degree murder carries a penalty of 15 years to life in prison, and the firearm charge carries up to three years in prison.

Spector’s young wife, Rachelle, sobbed as the decision was announced. It was Spector’s second trial. The first jury deadlocked 10-2, favoring conviction in 2007.

The 40-year-old Lana Clarkson, star of the 1985 cult film “Barbarian Queen”, died of a gunshot fired in her mouth as she sat in the foyer of Spector’s mansion in 2003. She met Spector only hours earlier at her job as a nightclub hostess.

Prosecutors argued Spector had a history of threatening women with guns when they tried to leave his presence. The defense claimed she killed herself.

Over 20 killed over cattle in Central Africa

BANGUI, April 12 (Reuters) – More than 20 people were killed on Sunday when farmers and traders fought over cattle at a livestock market near the capital of Central African Republic, a hospital official said.

The dispute centred on the ownership of cattle stolen by highway robbers over a week ago but later recovered from the bandits and brought to the market just outside Bangui.

“Twenty-two corpses have been brought to the morgue. This is only a provisional tally as the injured are still arriving,” said Joel Nganafei, an official at Bangui’s community hospital.

Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world despite its vast natural resources. It has endured years of civil conflicts and banditry is rife.

Fernand Koumanda, head of a cattle breeders’ association, said the fighting started when some traders at the market claimed that they owned 56 of the 174 beasts initially stolen, enraging some cattle farmers.

“I’ve just come from the hospital. The bodies and injured I’ve seen are horrific. Cracked heads, slit throats, bodies with arrows in them, others riddled with bullets, hacked by machetes. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” said Bernadette Sayo, minister for social affairs.

Health Minister Andre Nalke Dorogo appealed on national radio for doctors and health workers to go to the hospital as quickly as possible to try and save lives. (Reporting by Paul-Marin Ngoupana; Editing by David Clarke)

Dispute over a few paise costs couple lakhs

Mumbai: For the sake of a few paise, lakhs were lost. A Mumbai businessman had to pay a hefty price after a bank refused to accept his pay orders
because they were not rounded off to the nearest rupee. The pay orders were for his income-tax dues. Unable to get the new, rounded-off cheques in time, the businessman failed to meet his March 31 tax deadline and ended up paying a stiff penalty of Rs 2.06 lakh.

The State Bank of India, which turned businessman Samson Paul away, says that its computerised system does not accept paise. And it wasn’t just a whimsical cashier who had the paisa problem. The matter was bumped up to the level of assistant general manager. The bank refused to relent even after the income tax department itself pleaded with the bank that it accept the pay order.

The taxmen have now taken up the matter with the RBI and the finance ministry. RBI spokesperson Alpana Killawala told TOI that banks could not refuse a pay order on the ground that the paise had not been rounded off to the nearest rupee.

Paul and his wife Piedade, who are South Mumbai residents, run a diamond and garments brokerage business. They were raided by the income tax in December last year, following which their accounts in several banks were frozen. The Pauls were asked to pay tax dues of Rs 2.82 crore.

On March 31, the last day of the financial year, the couple went to I-T officials and said they would adjust the amount in their accounts against their dues. “Since the accounts were frozen, our officials instructed the banks to activate the accounts.

The Pauls broke their fixed deposits and instructed the banks to issue pay orders in favour of SBI, which was permitted to collect the dues,’’ an I-T official said.
The arrangement ran into trouble when the couple went to the SBI’s capital market branch to deposit nine pay orders issued by various banks. “The officials accepted only two pay orders. In the others, there was a mention of paise. We tried to argue with the bank that they could not refuse the orders, but in vain. The bank insisted that the couple go back to the various issuing banks and get fresh pay orders rounded off to the nearest rupee,’’ the I-T official said.

Short of time, the Pauls decided to go to HSBC Bank, which had issued pay orders of nearly Rs 2 crore. Here they ran into a different roadblock. “HSBC refused, saying it was quite legal to issue pay orders that had paise after the decimal point,’’ said the official. Caught in a bind, the couple could only pay Rs 30.22 lakh by the end of the day. “Finally, on Thursday (April 2), SBI accepted the pay orders but refunded the paise to income tax,’’ said the I-T official.

Delay in IPL hits Freddie and KP’s pockets

London, Mar.25 (ANI): England cricket players Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff will lose 150,000 and 75,000 pounds respectively due to the rescheduling of the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Originally, the IPL was to start on April 10, but the event will now commence on April 18, as it has been shifted to South Africa and because the Indian cricket board wants to give its players some rest and time with their families after they return from New Zealand on April 8.

Flintoff and Pietersen are currently the joint highest-paid players in the tournament and they will face a pay cut because they can now play in the IPL for only two weeks instead of three weeks.

Pietersen and Flintoff have to fly back home on May 1 to prepare for the series against the West Indies.

Their fees work out to around 75,000-pounds-a-game. The two superstars should still collect about 450,000 pounds each.lthough fixtures for the IPL in South Africa have yet to be finalised, it is likely that Pietersen will appear in two fewer matches for Bangalore Royal Challengers and Flintoff will play one fewer for Chennai Super Kings.

Ravi Bopara is expected to lose 25,000 pounds because of the rescheduled event while the shortfall of Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood will be around 15,000 pounds. (ANI)
