‘Endangered’ Pak must neutralise plethora of militant outfits on its own volition: Editorial

Islamabad, May 13 (ANI): As the US continues to pile up pressure on Pakistan to act against terror groups based in country’s semi-autonomous tribal areas following officials claiming to have established links between Faisal Shahzad, the failed Times Square bomber and Pakistani ‘jihad’ groups, an editorial in one of the country’s leading English dailies has stressed that it is time for Islamabad to take on the militants before its get too late.

The editorial in The Dawn pointed towards the recent recovery of jihadi paraphernalia from a Karachi mosque, which it said is a ‘sobering reminder of the fact that militant outfits are quietly carrying’ on their business in the country.

It may be noted that during the raid on the mosque several copies of computerised national ID cards and registration cards belonging to Afghan nationals and local supporters of the Jaish-i-Muhammad (JeM), the terror group which has been banned way back in 2002, were recovered.

Hate speeches of JeM commander Maulana Masood Azhar were also confiscated.

Hate literature, compact discs and other jihadi materials are being sold openly across he country, and the editorial said it was hard to believe that the country’s intelligence apparatus is unaware of these activities.

But the more important question here, the editorial asked, is to why the Pakistani leadership always acts against these jihadi groups only when it is under immense international pressure and not on its own.

“Though actual training camps for militants are active largely in the tribal northwest, it is the nation’s urban centres that serve as potential recruiting grounds for the jihadis. Sadly, our security establishment only acts when Pakistani or Pakistan-based militants attack or threaten to attack others and we, in turn, are threatened with “severe consequences,” it went on to add.

The editorial noted that Pakistan has no option but to flush out every single trace of militancy from its soil, failing which it would certainly result in ‘dire consequences’.

“The state must neutralise the plethora of militant outfits that earn opprobrium for Pakistan internationally and weaken it internally. The networks that help spread hate and promote jihad must be decisively dismantled. Militant leaders and hardened terrorists must be brought to justice, while less lethal supporters must be urged to renounce violence and reintegrated in society,” the editorial concluded. (ANI)

Prince William’s girlfriend wants to move on from ‘boring’ family job

London, July 12 (ANI): Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton has had enough of putting in long hours working for her parents’ business Party Pieces and she now wants to explore new horizons as she is looking for more challenging employment.

Kate has been running the company’s website ever since she was accused of being work shy and unwilling to commit herself to a real job while she waited for her Royal beau to finish his military training.

But now, Kate has admitted to a close friend that she has begun to find her current job a little boring” and wants to find a job that will “stretch her mind”.

She has spent the past few months working hard in developing Party Pieces’ website and photographing the new products that have been added to its range of party paraphernalia.

And she is now thinking that there is not much else for her to do at the company’s head quarters close to the Middleton family home in Berkshire.

“Kate is really grateful to her parents for providing a safe haven and something to do when she was under pressure – she was really upset when people called her Waitie Katie,” the Daily Express quoted one of her friends as saying.

The pal added: “But now she feels like doing something new, maybe not even in this country.”

It has already been reported that Kate, 27, is considering using the time that William is occupied with his military career by seeking her own vocational break in America.

“She wants to expand her horizons and feels this is the time to do it, when she has few other responsibilities. She wants to experience new things before the time comes when she won’t be able to have any sort of serious life,” said a pal.

Kate has long been interested in fashion and photography and has a mentor in one of the biggest movers in US fashion, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue.

Wintour has encouraged her to get a few months’ experience learning about the industry in New York.

But in the mean time, Kate has to continue to concentrate on her job with Party Pieces. (ANI)

Panda gives birth in Thai zoo

Panda gives birth in Thai zooBangkok – A panda, on loan from China, gave birth to a healthy cub Wednesday at Thailand’s Chiang Mai Zoo, officials said.

“Today Lin Hui delivered a cub at 10:10 am,” Chiang Mai Zoo director Thanaphat Pongphamon said in a telephone interview with German Press Agency dpa.

The sex and weight of the baby panda was not immediately known as Lin Hui, the mother, refused to allow zoo officials near the baby, Thanaphat said.

The birth was hailed as a success for the Chiang Mai Zoo, 500 kilometres north of Bangkok, which has pursued every means over the past six year to make Lin Hui, 7 years old, and her mate Chuang Chuang, 8, conceive.

At one point, frustrated zoo officials resorted to showing “panda porn” videos to the bear pair in an effort to stir their passions.

Finally, artificial insemination was resorted to.

Lin Hui was pregnant for 93 days, and the birth was without complications, Thanaphat said.

The panda couple have been the zoo’s main attraction since their arrival from China in October 12, 2003.

The zoo has done a profitable sideline selling panda paraphernalia, including panda poop that was snapped up like hot cakes when it was first was proffered to the public. (dpa)

The ‘orgy island’ in Malaysia that wants you to bare all under the moonlight!

Kuala Lumpur, May 19 (ANI): A couple, who is believed to have arranged a sex orgy party on Pulau Perhentian, have been fined 25,000RM under the Entertainment Act 2002 for organising a party without permit.

According to reports, the wild party was going on full swing before Besut District Council (MDB) enforcement officers moved in on the revellers.

It was the second time that such a party had been held on the island. The first party, themed ‘Buffalo Bars Pink Lady’, was organised on May 3.

The party that took place on May 10 was themed ‘Come bare under the moonlight’. It left council officer Razman Ahmad, who led the team, startled to find condoms strewn on the secluded beachfront where the party was held.

“I can’t disclose more facts as the council has lodged a police report on the matter, but I can tell you that there were activities associated with sexual intercourse on that night and this was substantiated by the discovery of sex paraphernalia,” Star Online quoted Ahmad as saying.

Though he has declined to give any details on whether he witnessed the revellers having sex when council officials arrived at the scene, investigations have shown that the organiser was a 31-year-old man from Kedah who arranged the party with his girlfriend from Ireland.

The lady in question is under police investigation for organising similar parties, including in Langkawi and Port Dickson, and also for being the one responsible for posting the invitation on her Facebook.

Ahmad added that the scantily-clad teenagers, some of them foreigners, were intoxicated when his team arrived at 1am in two speedboats, and after he decided to call his superior to brief him on the situation, the police were informed and 15 officers arrived at the scene.

The officers seized alcoholic drinks worth about 90,000 RM, loudspeakers, audio equipment, psychotropic pills, drug and sex paraphernalia during the raid on the party attended by 200 teenagers, who were invited via Facebook.

Of the first party, council president Wan Mustafa Wan Hassan said that the officers were unable to reach the site on time as they received the tip-off late. (ANI)

Police seize arms and ammunition in Poonch

Poonch, Mar 23 (ANI): Police have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch District.

This might also be an attempt to cause trouble during the upcoming elections which has been successfully foiled by our alert personnel,” said S.D. Singh Jamwal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Rajouri-Poonch.

According to security forces, there have been no infiltration attempts along the border in past two-three months.

Indian authorities are also stepping up security for political leaders, fearing possible militant attacks as the general election approaches. (ANI)

Is America’s ‘give and take relation’ with Pak fruitful?

Islamabad, Feb. 12 (ANI): US Special Representative Richard Holbrooke has sternly told Pakistan to eliminate militants from FATA and promised that the US would keep its promise to deliver 1.5 billion dollars aid to equip Pakistan’s armed forces with counter-insurgency paraphernalia.

But, both Pakistan’s ‘intentions and the ability’ to curb militancy from vast swathes of territory are under serious doubt.

Despite President Obama’s emphasis on soft-power options, Pakistan remains first and foremost a security challenge to his administration, the Dawn reports.

Pakistan’s give and take relations with America are not all that open and announced. One example of secret ‘offers’ and ‘deals’ is the US drone strikes in FATA to which the public is not privy.

Publicly, the Pakistan Government and army oppose such strikes and denounce them as unhelpful. But the accuracy of the US drone strikes proves that Pakistan has passed on detailed information to the US army.

The political intentions behind ground level information passed to the US can’t be denied. Does the political temperature in Pakistan specifically decide what else is put on the table for the strike?

The Pakistani public is not only questioning America’s anti-terror strategies, but is also uncertain about their government’s hidden motives.

The Pakistan armed forces are fighting in Swat, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand -but is their goal the elimination of the militants or simply to put the genie back in the bottle? The Pakistani Government is not even mentioning plans to regain the two Waziristan agencies, Baitullah and Mehsud, which are being ruled by terrorists.

In such murky circumstances, can Americans benefit from deeper ties with Pakistan? (ANI)
