Sandra Bullock thinks stalking men is best way to get a date

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock insists that the best way to find men to date is to stalk them.

In an interview to Parade magazine, the ‘All about Steve’ star said that one needed to secretly follow potential suitors to find out what they like, reports the China Daily.

“How else do you get dates? I learned that you have to stalk and then make it look very innocent,” she joked.

“Then once you get them you sort of shred receipts and you do things that sort of cover the paper trail of your stalking. I think it’s a necessary evil to sort of lure in your prey,” she added.

In ‘All About Steve’, Bullock plays the role of Mary Horowitz, who becomes obsessed with a man – played by Bradley Cooper – after going out on a blind date with him.

Although the 45-year-old beauty also revealed that she is terrible at crosswords, but she loves seeing her name appear in puzzles.I can barely spell. I so admire people who just whiz through them,” she said.

“My name has been in several crosswords, so I guess that’s the only thing that really connects me. I always get the clue when I’m seven across or whatever. I get very excited, ‘I got that one. It’s me,’” she added. (ANI)

England team won’t undertake open-top bus parade

London, Aug.24 (ANI): England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Managing Director Hugh Morris has ruled out the possibility of the victorious England cricket team undertaking an open top bus parade similar to the one that was done in 2005.

He told Sky News: “Perhaps last time we partied a bit too long and didn’t plan enough and obviously we know what the result was in Australia 18 months afterwards. We’re going to plan hard, we’ve got some big challenges ahead of us… that’s what we’ve be focusing on.”

The last home Ashes win sparked wild celebrations scenes and an open-top bus parade for the players. It also saw the team enjoy a marathon drinking session, with Andrew Flintoff famously turning up drunk at a Downing Street reception.

Things will be different this time around – with England aiming to capitalise on their success and become the best Test team in the world.

Playing commitments in Belfast later this week also mean the players will not be able to celebrate for too long.

Morris paid particular tribute to captain Andrew Strauss and team director Andy Flower.

Referring to the sackings of Kevin Pietersen as captain and former head coach Peter Moores, he said: “It was a dark, difficult, challenging time for all of us. But the way Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss have marshalled the troops to get to winning an Ashes series seven months later is a fantastic achievement.”

The chairman of selectors, Geoff Miller, told Sky News England can’t afford to dwell on the victory for too long.

“In 2005 we’d not beaten Australia for some time, now it’s a different situation. They can party, they can celebrate but they know there’s still a big job to be done. We want to be the best in the world and to be the best we’ll have to focus on what we do on and off the field,” he said. (ANI)

Ground-to-air security ahead of Independence Day

New Delhi/Guwahati, Aug 13 (ANI): With India getting set to celebrate its 62nd Independence Day, the Central and Delhi State Governments have pulled out all steps to ensure that the event is santizied from a security point of view.

Following intelligence inputs that terror outfits have plans to target the Indian capital on August 15, over 60,000 officers of the Delhi Police, Special Cell, Crime Branch, Special Branch and around 35 paramilitary companies will be deployed in and around the city.

It is expected that around 6,000 police officers will be deployed near Red Fort.

Forty CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the Red Fort, while sharpshooters of the National Security Guard (NSG) will man buildings and rooftops near the historic monument.

Intelligence agencies have also reportedly identified ‘safety houses’ where the Prime Minister and other VIPs can be taken in the event of a terror strike.

Quick Reaction Teams, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Vajra (of the Rapid Action Force) are also being deployed for the ocassion.

Informers have been deployed to look out for suspect anti-national elements, police sources said.

The entire area over Red Fort will be declared a no-fly zone during the function. Airspace would be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Security has been tightened at the Parliament complex, IGI Airport, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and Metro stations.

In other sensitive parts of the country like Jammu and Kashmir, and the northeastern states, security has been beefed up to counter possible terror or insurgent attacks.

In Guwahati, passengers are expected to be frisked at various checkpoints in the city.

Meanwhile, defying the boycott call, school students, NCC cadets and police personnel are busy preparing for the Independence Day parade.

“They are always giving calls to boycott Republic Day celebrations or Independence Day celebrations. But it is regularly celebrating Independence Day,” said Anna Rai,a school teacher.

The students are also upbeat about participating in the parade.

Security has also been beefed up along the India-Bangladesh border in Siliguri.

The Border Security Force (BSF) is on a high alert and keeping a strict vigil along the borders.

Home Ministry officials have warned that the Lashkar-e-Taiba plans to target three major cities, including Delhi on Independence Day.

Kolkata and Hyderabad are the other two LeT targets. (ANI)

Prime Minister arrives in Paris

Paris, July 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived in Paris late on Monday night to participate in the National Day celebrations of the Republic of France.

Dr. Singh was received by French Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and Ambassador of France to India Bonnafont. He was presented a Guard of Honour by the republican guards. National anthem of both the countries were also played.

Dr. Singh, who will be the Chief Guest of Honour at France’s National Day celebrations on Tuesday, said: “It’s a great honour and a great privilege for me to be in this beautiful country on France’s National Day.

I am very grateful to President Nicolas Sarkozy for giving me this rare honour. India and France are partners in development. We have very good relations with France. Its my ambition to give a further push to our strategic partnership.”

The Prime Minister is the first Indian leader to be bestowed this honour, as France does not have a tradition of inviting foreign heads of state to be chief guests at their Bastille Day or National Day celebrations.

This day commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which was then seen as a symbol of a rising modern nation.

He will witness the contingent of 400 soldiers from the Indian Army, Navy and Air force march down the Champs-Elysees Avenue along with French infantry troops and motorised troops.

This is the for the first time that all the three services – Army, Navy and Air Force will taking part in the National Day celebrations of another country.

Among the 400 personnel, 300 would be part of the marching contingent, while the rest are from the respective bands.

A prominent feature of the band contingent will be the drummers and bagpipers who would be playing Indian martial music.

Inviting friendly nations to send their troops to participate the Bastille Day parade is a recent phenomenon.

In 2004, during the centenary of the Entente Cordiale, British troops comprising of Grenadier Guards, the Cavalry Regiment and Royal Marines and Royal Horse Artillery, led the parade in Paris for the first time.

The Indian armed forces participation will mark the commemoration of Indian army’s association with its French counterpart during the two World Wars.

The parade itself is a gala event held at what can best be described as the Rajpath of Paris. It begins from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.

The number of contingents participating in the parade are not as many as seen in the Republic Day parade every January 26 in New Delhi.

While the loudest applause in Delhi is reserved for the ex-servicemen contingent, at the Bastille Day parade it is the fireservice men who get the loudest applause. By Smita Prakash (ANI)

Pak capable of shooting down US drones, but it could ignite war: PAF chief

Islamabad, May 29 (ANI): Pakistan has said that it is capable of shooting down US Predator aircrafts operating inside its geographical territory, but fears that such a step could ignite a war between both the countries.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the passing out parade at the Risalpur Air Force Academy, Pakistan Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said PAF is capable or shooting down US drones, but the final decision in this regard rests with the government and Parliament.

“We had shot down a US spy plane near Kasur in 2002,” Suleman said.

Concerned over India’s acquisition of the Air Warning and Control System (AWACS), he said such steps would lead to an arms race in the region.

Suleman claimed that Pakistan has the technology to counter India’s move.

“We have every technology to reply India in a befitting manner,” The Nation quoted Suleman, as saying.

He stated that Pakistan would also acquire its own AWACS technology by October.

Pakistan would also get 500 American Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles, Suleman added. (ANI)

“We just hang out at home. You have to have a real life because of the kind of crazy Hollywood stuff that you can get wrapped up in.

“It’s so important to have hobbies and girlfriends, and not know people that work in Hollywood.

It’s a sanity thing; it keeps you sane. I was playing soccer and I joined a kickball league. That’s way more interesting to me than going to some party,” she added. (ANI)

“One had the field nigger and the house nigger. There was this notion that I was chosen by white fashion editors to be better than the rest, which I am not.

“I did not like being thought of as the house nigger,” she added. (ANI)

Sino-US navies try to resolve maritime discords

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The Chinese and US navies have been searching for ways to “alleviate disagreements” over international law on maritime rights, a senior military source has said.

The source admitted the two militaries still disagree on how to interpret the international law concerning maritime waters. But both sides have “expressed their views candidly in the latest round of military exchange.”

The China Daily quoted the source as saying that in the latest exchange, US naval operations chief Admiral Gary Roughead and Chinese Navy chief Admiral Wu Shengli held talks in Qingdao last month during a sea parade to mark the 60th anniversary of the PLA Navy.

But some experts said the US navy will not stop spying activities in the western part of the Pacific, and reconciliation at sea may not be reached easily.

“The US has always wanted to maintain its influence in Asia through military means. It has conducted military activities around the Taiwan Straits and the East China Sea, and now wants to expand to the South China Sea,” said Professor Yuan Peng, an expert at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations.

He added that the US is keen to see Southeast Asian countries in territorial disputes with China so that it can retain its influence in those countries and contain China’s rise.

Wang Hanling, a researcher on maritime affairs and international law at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said Sino-US disputes at sea mainly arise from the different interpretation of items related to the “freedoms of navigation and over flight in an exclusive economic zone.”

US Admiral Robert Willard, new commander of the Pacific Fleet, said on Tuesday that the US is attempting to overcome disagreements with China after frank discussions between high-level US officials and their Chinese counterparts over recent confrontations at seas.

The two nations do not see eye to eye on the issue of maritime rights, but “we’re going to have to work our way through it … so they don’t continue to escalate,” Willard said on the sidelines of a regional naval conference in Singapore. (ANI)

Tom Hanks forced to cut sex scenes from new movie due to time limit

London, May 13 (ANI): American actor Tom Hanks has revealed that he had to omit some sex scenes from his new movie ‘Angels and Demons’, as there was no time for “smooching” in the action-packed film.

The 52-year-old star plays the part of Harvard professor Robert Langdon, who investigates the murder of a physicist and a terrorist act against the Vatican by a secret brotherhood.

But moviemakers had to downplay the love scenes between Hanks’ character and his female companion, played by Ayelet Zurer, leaving the actor very disappointed. We really don’t have time to make out or go to bed when Cardinals are being killed on the hour. We tried to work it into the screenplay over and over again. We were like, ‘Isn’t there a bigger car with a bigger backseat?’” the Daily Express quoted him as telling Parade magazine.

“But we were stuck with an Alfa Romeo so we didn’t have an opportunity to grab some smooching on the way to the Pantheon or the Piazza Del Poppolo. It’s my loss, but I think it did make it easier for Ayelet,” he added. (ANI)
